Feinstein, Fetterman Hospitalizations May Mean Trouble for Democrats
|
|
Senate Democrats have little room for error after Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) announced she was hospitalized with shingles on Thursday and amid Sen. John Fetterman’s (D-Penn.) ongoing treatment for clinical depression.
On Thursday, Feinstein, 89, said she was hospitalized with the virus and won’t return until “later this month,” while Fetterman, 53, was hospitalized at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to treat clinical depression last month. It’s not clear when Fetterman will be released.
Two other senators this week missed votes, including Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) and Sen. Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) Merkeley said in a statement that he is in Oregon to deal with a “family matter,” while Crapo reportedly is suffering from illness.
Because of absences this week, the Senate is deadlocked at 48–48, forcing Vice President Kamala Harris to cast tie-breaking votes for Democrats. When Crapo and Merkley return, the Senate will be tied at 49–49.
With no time-table provided for either Fetterman’s or Feinstein’s respective returns to the Senate, some analysts say that Democrats could face problems when trying to confirm President Joe Biden’s nominees. (Epoch Times) Read more.

Rep. Greene to Reintroduce Bill Banning Transgender Procedures on Minors
|
|
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) plans to reintroduce the “Protecting Children’s Innocence Act” sometime over the next week.
The bill, which Greene introduced in August during the last Congress, would bar sex transitions or other medical interventions on minors with gender dysphoria.
The summary of the bill reads that the bill “places restrictions on the provision of gender affirming care. Gender affirming care includes performing surgery, administering medication, or performing other procedures for the purpose of changing the body of an individual to correspond to a sex that differs from the individual’s biological sex.”
Specifically, the bill makes it a felony to perform such procedures on a minor and allows those who do so to face civil liability.
Many reports have cropped up of people who surgically or chemically “transitioned” only to later regret their decision.
Several transgender procedures, including both surgery and drugs, are irreversible.
The process of surgically reshaping genitals into a rough facsimile of the opposite sex cannot be undone; nor can double mastectomies, the removal of breasts, which are popular among biological women who identify as men. Cross-sex hormones can also have the effect of permanently sterilizing a man or woman. (Epoch Times) Read more here.

Flynn Sues DOJ, FBI for Malicious Prosecution, Wants $50 Million
|
|
Retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, former national security adviser to President Donald Trump, has filed a lawsuit against the Department of Justice (DOJ), FBI, and others, alleging he was maliciously prosecuted. He is demanding at least $50 million in compensation.
“Defendant maliciously investigated and prosecuted General Flynn by initiating and continuing a baseless counterintelligence investigation and by filing a criminal information lacking probable cause,” says the suit, filed on March 3 with the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida (pdf).
The former head of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) under the Obama administration was investigated by the FBI starting in August 2016 for supposed ties to Russia. In 2017, he was charged with lying to the FBI during an interview earlier that year.
The suit alleges that the FBI, and later prosecutors from the office of special counsel Robert Mueller, investigated and prosecuted him for political reasons, considering him a threat.
“General Flynn—who already had a reputation as a hands-on disruptor at DIA, who had publicly excoriated the politicization of the intelligence community, and who had made clear his desire to overhaul the national security structure and the ‘interagency process’—was a direct threat, not only to the self-interest of entrenched intelligence bureaucracies and the federal officials involved, but to exposing their prior and ongoing efforts to derail and discredit President Trump,” the suit says. 1. Lapid at Knesset: Stop overhaul legislation right now and let’s go talk with Herzog - Times of Israel
Opposition leader Yair Lapid calls on the government to immediately halt votes on its slate of bills to radically overhaul the judiciary and enter dialogue tonight or tomorrow.
“The prime minister wants us to put a proposal on the table? Here’s a proposal: Stop the legislation, now, today, before the vote,” Lapid says in the Knesset plenum. “Instead of voting, let’s go to the President’s Residence, and announce that we are staying there until the State of Israel has a constitution.”
President Isaac Herzog has been leading calls for dialogue between the opposition and government over the highly controversial judicial shakeup. (Read more)

2. Knesset votes to change bylaws to delay appointments to Judicial Selection Committee - Times of Israel
The coalition votes to change the Knesset bylaws in order to delay appointing new representatives to the Judicial Selection Committee, in the midst of its ongoing legislative push to restructure the panel responsible for appointing all of Israel’s judges and place it firmly in coalition control.
Passing 51 to 47, the amendment grants the Knesset an additional three months to select representatives for selection and appointment committees, extending the timeline from March 15 to June 15. Until today’s vote, the rules stated that the Knesset must choose representatives for these panels, including the Judicial Selection Committee, within four months of its seating.
The coalition explicitly tied the change to its ongoing push to transfer judicial appointments into its own power as “the reason” for the bylaws change, according to an accompanying explanation for amendment. (Read more)

3. Israeli Fighter Pilots Refuse to Train in Protest of Judicial Reform - Algemeiner
i24 News – A total of 37 reserve pilots out of the 40 members of an elite Israel Air Force (IAF) unit announced that they will absent themselves from a scheduled training this week in protest of the government’s judicial overhaul.
Air Force Squadron 69 is one of the top units in the IAF. It operates the advanced F-15 Thunderbird aircraft that serve as the Israeli military’s long-range attack arm.
They said they would return to regular training only in the event if the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu halts its attempts to push the controversial packet of reforms through to approval by lawmakers. (Read more)

4. Netanyahu: ‘We will continue’ to attack Iran’s nuclear sites, despite int’l atomic agency’s objections - World Israel News
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu slammed International Atomic Energy Agency director General Rafael Grossi for saying on Saturday that it would be illegal for Israel to attack Iran’s nuclear plant.
During discussions in Iran, Grossi initially was discussing the Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant in Ukraine, which Russia was attacking while receiving military aid from the Islamic Republic.
He then clarified, in response to questions, that such an attack would be illegal anywhere, including an attack by Israel on Iranian facilities.
“We certainly hope that we are going to be able to protect the nuclear power plant which is under threat now, which is Zaporizhzhia. But this is valid and applicable to every nuclear facility in the world,” Grossi said. (Read more)

5. U.S. officials to boycott Smotrich during his visit - report - i24 News
According to a senior political official via Channel 12, Israel’s Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich is now considered "persona non grata,” among the American government.
The same source clarified that even before this statement, the administration far from enthusiastic about the religious nationalist. The outrage in the American administration follows Smotrich stating that "the State of Israel should erase Huwara." The official reportedly told Channel 12: "If Smotrich was 'persona non grata' before this statement, now after the disgrace he uttered he is 'persona non grata' on steroids. No American official will meet with Smotrich. After he said these things, the phone in the bureaus in Jerusalem did not stop ringing.”
The American boycott follows the State Department vehemently denouncing the minister's remarks last Wednesday. The comment was deemed "repulsive" by the State Department, which urged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the senior government figures under his leadership to retract it. (Read more)

1. White House scrambles to explain DC crime bill reversal that stunned Democrats - Washington Examiner
President Joe Biden signaled this week that he will help Congress override legislation passed by the D.C. Council for the first time in 32 years, taking many Democrats by surprise. The White House issued a Statement of Administration Policy on Feb. 6, saying it supported Washington, D.C., statehood and therefore would not interfere with a local crime bill. But he reversed course Thursday afternoon, saying that if Congress overrode the district's bill, he'd sign it.
"I support D.C. Statehood and home-rule — but I don’t support some of the changes D.C. Council put forward over the Mayor’s objections — such as lowering penalties for carjackings," Biden tweeted. "If the Senate votes to overturn what D.C. Council did — I’ll sign it."
The news came as a surprise to House Democrats because of Biden's previously expressed opposition to the measure, leading them to believe the White House would support them. “This is news to me," House Del. Eleanor Norton (D-DC) said. "I’m very disappointed in it."
“It’s disappointing for me and anybody who believes in home rule, honestly," Rep. Pete Aguilar (D-CA), the No. 3 House Democrat, said. "I’m a former mayor of a city of 70,000, and I wouldn’t want the federal government coming in and telling me what city ordinances to pass. … So I think it’s disappointing in that context."
The D.C. Council bill would reduce penalties for murders, carjackings, armed robberies, armed home invasions, and sexual assault offenses, even amid rising crime in the nation's capital. If reversed, it would be the first council bill overturned by Congress since 1991. (Read more here)

2. Key Gov’t Agencies Should Be Defunded, Abolished If They ‘Do Not Come To Heel,’ Rep. Matt Gaetz Says - Daily Caller
Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida said Friday at the 2023 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) that multiple government agencies should be defunded or abolished if they won’t “come to heel.”
“Perhaps the most important concession that we received during that fight was the establishment of a special group of legislators to analyze the weaponization of this government against our people,” Gaetz said during a speech at the event in National Harbor, Maryland. “Seems like every time I turn around, they’re engaged in surveillance or list building or monitoring.”
“I don’t care if it takes every second of our time and every ounce of our energy, we either get this government back on our side or we defund and get rid of, abolish the FBI, CDC, ATF, DOJ, every last one of them if they do not come to heel,” Gaetz added.
The Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government held a hearing Feb. 9, during which former Democratic Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii, who claimed that censorship by Google derailed her campaign, while Republican Sens. Chuck Grassley of Iowa and Ron Johnson of Wisconsin testified before the subcommittee about FBI surveillance of Donald Trump’s successful 2016 campaign and about information from whistleblowers in the agency. 3. GOP defends whistleblowers as Democrats work to undermine credibility - Washington Examiner
House Republicans are pushing back against efforts to undermine “so-called” whistleblower claims alleging wrongdoing and politicization at the Justice Department and the FBI.
House Judiciary Committee Republicans released a report just ahead of the 2022 midterm elections on the “politicization” of the DOJ and FBI, including its handling of investigations related to Hunter Biden and the Capitol riot. The GOP report was put out by GOP members led by Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), now chairman of the committee.
“It is beyond disappointing, but sadly not surprising, that Democrats would leak cherry-picked excerpts of testimony to attack the brave whistleblowers who risked their careers to speak out on abuses at the Justice Department and FBI,” Jordan spokesman Russell Dye told the Washington Examiner on Friday.
“These same Democrats vowed to fight our oversight ‘tooth and nail,’ and they are willing to undermine the work of the Congress to achieve their partisan goals. It’s clear that Democrats would rather defend bureaucratic abuses than work collaboratively with Republicans to protect fundamental civil liberties.” (Read more)

4. Judge denies Jan. 6 defendant access to Capitol security tapes made available by McCarthy - Washington Examiner
A federal judge denied a request from a Jan. 6 defendant to access additional Capitol surveillance tapes recently made available by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy in an effort to delay her trial and gather more evidence.
U.S. District Court Judge James Boasberg denied the request from Jan. 6 defendant Sara Carpenter on Friday, ruling her legal team failed to explain how the supplemental footage of her actions inside the Capitol building would be necessary in her case. Carpenter faces a number of charges for her participation in the Capitol riot, including disorderly conduct and obstruction of an official proceeding.
Carpenter sought to delay her trial for six weeks to give her legal team time to sift through nearly 44,000 hours of Capitol surveillance footage recently made available by McCarthy. However, Boasberg voiced concerns that doing so would set a precedent that could “derail dozens of trials that are set in the next few months.” (Read more)

5. ‘Evacuate Us!’: Tensions Boil Over Between East Palestine Residents And Norfolk Southern At Town Hall - Daily Caller
Tensions boiled over between frustrated residents of East Palestine, Ohio, and a railroad company official at a Thursday town hall in the East Palestine High School auditorium.
Angered residents pleaded with Darrell Wilson, a representative from Norfolk Southern, the company that owns the derailed train, who had arrived to answer questions at the meeting, The New York Times reported. Town hall attendees constantly heckled and shouted at him with demands to clean up the disastrous toxic spill and to evacuate them from the area of the Feb. 3 derailment.
“We are sorry,” Wilson told the residents. “We’re very sorry for what happened. We feel horrible about it.”
“Evacuate us!” one yelled.
“Get my grandchildren out of here!” another yelled. “If you care about us, get our grandkids out.” (Read more)

6. Utah governor to ban state abortion clinics - Washington Examiner
Utah Gov. Spencer Cox is poised to sign a bill that would ban abortion clinics from operating within the state, leaving only hospitals as a place for residents to seek access to the procedure.
The state legislature passed a bill earlier this week effectively banning abortion clinics from operating in the Beehive State, granting a win to anti-abortion lawmakers while several abortion restrictions in the state are currently on hold pending court injunctions. Utah lawmakers in the House and Senate approved the legislation earlier this week, sending the bill to Cox’s desk for his signature.
Cox told reporters he intends to sign the legislation despite pushback from several abortion rights groups, such as the Planned Parenthood Association of Utah, which operates three of the state’s four abortion clinics. The legislation also clarifies the definition of abortion after healthcare providers expressed concerns about how exceptions for the procedure are worded in the state law — a provision Cox said was a necessary compromise.
The newly passed law would require all abortion procedures, whether through surgery or medication, to be performed by hospitals. The legislation would also discontinue abortion clinic licensing for new centers after May 2 and block clinics from operating once their current licenses expire. (Read more)

7. Americans arrested for allegedly sending aviation technology to Russia - Reuters
Two Americans were arrested in Kansas City on Thursday for an alleged scheme to send aviation-related technology to Russia in violation of U.S. export controls. Cyril Buyanovsky, 59, and Douglas Robertson, 55, are accused of conspiring to circumvent U.S. export laws by selling avionics to customers around the world that operate Russian-built aircraft, according to an indictment unsealed in U.S. District Court in Kansas.
The pair repaired and shipped technology from their firm, KanRus Trading Company, submitting false export information, such as a fraudulent invoice that showed Germany as the end destination for repaired equipment bearing a sticker for Russia's Federal Security Services (FSB).
On Feb. 28, 2022, after U.S. authorities detained a shipment of avionics, the U.S. Commerce Department told the men they needed a license to export the equipment, the Justice Department said in a statement. In May, June and July, they illegally shipped the electronics through Armenia and Cyprus. (Read more)

An earthquake measuring 6.9 on Richter scale struck Kermedec Islands in New Zealand on March 4, confirmed United States Geological Survey (USGS). No tsunami warning was issued after the quake, the U.S. Tsunami Warning System reported. (Read more)

9. Second Norfolk Southern Train Derails In Ohio As Residents Asked To Shelter In Place - Daily Caller
A Norfolk Southern train derailed in Clark County Ohio on Saturday, and residents have been asked by authorities to shelter in place as a precautionary measure.
The Clark County Emergency Management Agency released a statement on Facebook advising residents within 1,000 feet of the trail derailment to shelter in place and avoid state route 41 near the Prime Ohio Business Park.
“The Clark County Emergency Management Agency is asking residents within 1,000 feet of a train derailment at Ohio 41 near the Prime Ohio Business Park to shelter-in-place out of an abundance of caution,” the agency said. “We ask that all residents in need of travel to Ohio 41 find alternate routes. Local and state officials are on scene, including the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, the Springfield Fire Rescue Division and the Springfield Police Department.”
Approximately 20 cars of a 212-car Norfolk Southern train traveling south of Springfield Ohio derailed on Saturday night, according to local outlet WDTN. None have been reported injured and none of the cars were carrying deadly chemicals.

Illegal shipment captured in Gulf of Oman along route used to funnel weapons to Yemen, officials say
|

American naval forces teamed up with their United Kingdom counterparts to seize "anti-tank guided missiles" and missile components from a boat that originated from Iran, military officials say.
The joint operation – in which the U.S. provided "airborne intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance support for an interdiction in the Gulf of Oman conducted by the United Kingdom Royal Navy" – happened on Feb. 23, the U.S. Naval Forces Central Command announced Thursday.
"Coordinated efforts among U.S. and U.K. maritime forces led to Royal Navy frigate HMS Lancaster confiscating anti-tank guided missiles and missile components from a small boat that originated from Iran," the Central Command said in a statement. (Fox News) Read more here.

Asteroid the size of 145 horses to pass Earth on Purim - NASA

Asteroid 535844 (2015 BY310) is estimated to be as much as 250 meters in diameter, around as much as 145 Clydesdale horses, and it's passing us on Purim.

A massive asteroid the size of 145 Clydesdale horses is heading toward Earth on Tuesday, according to NASA's asteroid tracker.
The asteroid in question has been designated 535844 (2015 BY310), having been discovered back in 2015, according to the Center for Near-Earth Object Studies (CNEOS) at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL).
This asteroid's arrival comes as most of the Jewish world celebrates Purim, a Jewish holiday that – technically – involved horses at one specific point in the story.
How big is the asteroid coming toward Earth in 2023?
Asteroid 535844 (2015 BY310) is by no means small. According to NASA's estimates, its diameter is possibly as large as 250 meters.
To put such an astronomical size into more terrestrial metrics, the average male Clydesdale horse – the one made famous by Budweiser – can grow to around 172 centimeters in height. That means that at maximum, asteroid 535844 (2015 BY310) can be a bit over 145 fully grown male Clydesdale horses stacked on top of each other.

The average fully-grown male Clydesdale horse also weighs around 850 kilograms, so 145 of them would be around 123,250 kilograms in total.
And yes, the odds are that this asteroid is considerably heavier. But who's to say for sure? After all, there's always a chance that this asteroid is a rubble pile, therefore its mass may not be so clear cut.
The average Clydesdale can also run at around 32 kilometers per hour. And suffice it to say, it would be the wrong horse to back in a race between it and asteroid 535844 (2015 BY310), which is clocking in at around 7.72 kilometers per second, or 27,792 kilometers per hour.
Now, there is no clear consensus on the horse in the Purim story – upon which Mordechai rode in a triumphant celebration, led by a humiliated Haman, as described in the events of the Book of Esther – but it was almost certainly not a Clydsdale. However, it seems certain that whatever horse it was would still be far slower than this asteroid.
Now, you might be worried about a massive asteroid hitting the Earth this Purim, perhaps being God's way of making noise when Haman's name is mentioned during megillah reading, or maybe as a strange cosmic form of mishloah manot where the gift is a catastrophic impact that lays waste to entire cities.
But rest assured, that won't happen this Purim.
While asteroid 535844 (2015 BY310) will be passing us by, it will do so at a distance of over 4 million kilometers away. On a cosmic scale, that's still somewhat close, but it's nowhere near as close as the Moon, which orbits at around 384,000 kilometers away from the Earth on average. (Jerusalem Post) Read more here.

SPONTANEOUS PRAYER BREAKS OUT IN JERUSALEM’S ACTUAL UPPER ROOM; “T’WAS LIKE A ROAR OF HEAVENLY TONGUES”

The upper room in Jerusalem was the location of one of the most powerful moments in Biblical history. There, Jesus’ apostles prayed while waiting for the promised Holy Spirit. And today, another powerful moment has happened when prayer broke out among the visitors touring the upper room.
Jerusalem’s Upper Room
Worship leader Ryan Delling got to capture the special moment and posted to social media. According to Ryan, he had been to Jerusalem’s upper room many times. But always experienced a more revenant atmosphere during his visits. He said, “I have been to the upper room in Jerusalem many times over the years, and I have never seen this happen. Usually, it is fairly quiet with a few group singing songs.”
“But today, four groups were there from different nations, including Brazil, Ghana, [the] United States, and eastern Europe. Spontaneously all of these groups began praying out loud together without any music,” he continued.
Ryan shared that the prayers were individual to each visitor. Some prayed in tongues, others prayed in their own language, but most of all, everyone prayed.
“We are on the verge of the third Great awakening in America and the nations! Do it, Lord.”
Meanwhile, Robert Hotchkin, one of Patricia King’s core leaders, also got to visit on the same day when the worship and prayer happened. “This was a totally unplanned, Holy Spirit orchestrated move that came out of nowhere and went on for quite some time,” he said. “Multiple languages and many people groups, but all crying out for a move and baptism of the Spirit.”
Some believe that what happened in the upper room paralleled the day of Pentecost when the apostles received the Holy Spirit.
“And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance,” Acts 2:4 says.

Record-Breaking, Gargantuan Black Hole Eruption –
Biggest Explosion Seen in the Universe

The biggest explosion seen in the universe has been found. This record-breaking, gargantuan eruption came from a black hole in a distant galaxy cluster hundreds of millions of light-years away.
“In some ways, this blast is similar to how the eruption of Mt. St. Helens in 1980 ripped off the top of the mountain,” said Simona Giacintucci of the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC, and lead author of the study. “A key difference is that you could fit fifteen Milky Way galaxies in a row into the crater this eruption punched into the cluster’s hot gas.”
Astronomers made this discovery using X-ray data from NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory and ESA’s XMM-Newton, and radio data from the Murchison Widefield Array (MWA) in Australia and the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT) in India.
The unrivaled outburst was detected in the Ophiuchus galaxy cluster, which is about 390 million light-years from Earth. Galaxy clusters are the largest structures in the Universe held together by gravity, containing thousands of individual galaxies, dark matter, and hot gas. Read More

Holy Spirit Uprising Hits Another Secular University

Unlike the revival at Asbury University in Kentucky this month, the Holy Spirit has been working on the campus of Texas A&M University Corpus Christi for quite some time now. Students at TAMUCC—many of whom attend New Life Church in Corpus Christi, Texas—have shown their boldness for Christ for many months, leading to many salvations, baptisms and healings at the secular university. Last Friday night, nearly a couple hundred people gathered for at TAMUCC to prayer for revival for not only their school, but also for America. The event lasted for five hours.
TAMU CorpusNew Life Church Young Adults is a campus-approved club, and it is the largest Christian club on the campus of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, says Mike Fehlauer, the senior pastor at New Life Church. "In light of what God did at Asbury and other Christian universities, it was wonderful to see this gathering of students who have such a heart for God," Fehlauer says. "There was a strong spirit of repentance and desire for greater holiness. We believe that God is up to something on that campus. Each week, we are seeing salvations and baptisms from the 15 different student life groups that meet throughout the week. For me, to see these young people show a true heart of repentance is very inspiring."
Last August, more than 600 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi students attended a one-night gathering on campus. Fehlauer says there were nearly 100 who received Christ and over 51 spontaneous baptisms. But that's not all that's happening in South Texas these days. The Holy Spirit has overwhelmed students in many high schools in the Corpus Christi area as well.
