Former Manhattan DA Says Trump Likely Will Get No Prison Time

A former Manhattan district attorney predicted that former President Donald Trump likely will receive no prison time after his conviction.

Cyrus Vance Jr., a Democrat who retired in 2022, was asked by NBC News on Sunday in a “Meet the Press” interview about a possible prison term.

“I think not,” he replied.

“The president has made this a little more complicated by having been found in contempt 10 times during the court, but I think that with the proximity of the Republican convention four days after his sentencing, and then if he is the candidate for the Republican Party, [given] the proximity of the election, I would be surprised that he would be sentenced to any imprisonment,” Mr. Vance said.

Mr. Vance then noted: “Now, that said, the court could adjourn sentencing until after the general election and then essentially decide then.”

In his interview, Mr. Vance said that he investigated President Trump but ultimately didn’t prosecute him.

“Well, we did investigate the former president on a range of issues. I ultimately believed that our investigation was best focused on financial crimes,” he said. “I’m confident that we made the right choice for us at that time in pursuing the financial crimes investigation. As you know, it resulted in convictions.”

Fauci Disavows Adviser Who Deleted Emails
Dr. Anthony Fauci disavowed a longtime senior adviser during a congressional hearing on June 3, saying the official had violated federal rules by using personal email for official business and editing the press release of a government grantee.

“I knew nothing of Dr. Morens’s actions regarding Dr. Daszak, EcoHealth, or his emails,” Dr. Fauci said. “It is important to point out for the record that, despite his title, and even though he was helpful to me in writing scientific papers, Dr. Morens was not an adviser to me on institute policy or other substantive issues.”

Dr. Fauci also said that Dr. Morens didn’t take part in regular meetings of NIAID leadership or of his immediate staff before agreeing that Dr. Morens violated federal rules by editing an EcoHealth statement, reaching out to the EcoHealth board on behalf of Mr. Daszak, and using personal email for official business.

Dr. Morens often spoke of talking with Dr. Fauci, including writing after the government paused the primary EcoHealth grant: “Peter, from Tony’s numerous recent comments to me, they are trying to protect you.”

Biden Issues Message of Support for Son as Jury Selection Begins in Gun Trial

Jury selection began on June 3 in the federal gun case against Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, after a plea deal that would have avoided a trial and public spectacle ahead of the November election failed.

Mr. Biden has been charged in Delaware with three felonies related to a 2018 gun purchase. Based on testimony in his memoir, he was addicted to crack cocaine at the time and has been accused of lying to the gun dealer, making a false statement that he was not a drug user on the application to screen firearm applicants, and illegally possessing the gun for 11 days.

First Lady Jill Biden attended jury selection in person, sitting in the front row of the courtroom to support her son. President Biden released a statement saying he has “boundless love” for his son and “respect for his strength.”

“I am the President, but I am also a Dad. Jill and I love our son, and we are so proud of the man he is today,” the president said.

“Hunter’s resilience in the face of adversity and the strength he has brought to his recovery are inspiring to us. A lot of families have loved ones who have overcome addiction and know what we mean.”

Mr. Biden has pleaded not guilty to the charges. He maintains that he was unfairly targeted by the Justice Department after GOP lawmakers called his failed plea deal “special treatment” because he’s the president’s son.

Netanyahu Says No ‘Permanent Ceasefire’ Until Hamas Is Destroyed

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on June 1 that the requirements for ending his country’s war or setting a ceasefire with Hamas “have not changed” amid questions about a possible peace deal.

His remarks came as U.S. President Joe Biden announced on May 31 that the Israeli government proposed a three-part deal for a Gaza ceasefire in exchange for Hamas releasing the remainder of the hostages who were abducted last October.

“Israel’s conditions for ending the war have not changed: The destruction of Hamas military and governing capabilities, the freeing of all hostages and ensuring that Gaza no longer poses a threat to Israel,” Mr. Netanyahu said in a statement.

“Israel will continue to insist these conditions are met before a permanent ceasefire is put in place. The notion that Israel will agree to a permanent ceasefire before these conditions are fulfilled is a non-starter.” (The Epoch Times) Read more here.

FOCUS ON ISRAEL

1. Hamas Says It Will Only Commit to Deal With Permanent Gaza Ceasefire, Full Israeli Withdrawal - Algemeiner

Hamas cannot agree to any deal unless Israel makes a “clear” commitment to a permanent ceasefire and a complete withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, a senior official from the Palestinian terrorist group said on Tuesday.

Qatar, which alongside the United States and Egypt has been mediating talks between Hamas and Israel, has also urged Israel to provide a clear position that has the backing of its entire government to reach a deal.

“We cannot agree to an agreement that doesn’t secure, guarantee, and ensure a permanent ceasefire, a complete withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, and completing a real serious swap deal accordingly,” Osama Hamdan, a Hamas official, told a televised press conference.

A three-phase proposal presented by US President Joe Biden on Friday involved in its first phase a six-week ceasefire when Israeli forces would withdraw from “all populated areas” of Gaza and some hostages — including the elderly and women — would be freed in exchange for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners. 2. CIA chief returns to region to push hostage deal as Israel vows not to budge further - Times of Israel

CIA director William Burns and White House Mideast czar Brett McGurk departed back to the Middle East on Tuesday for meetings in Doha and Cairo aimed at advancing the Israeli hostage deal proposal submitted last week, two US officials confirmed to The Times of Israel.

Accordingly, Egyptian State TV subsequently reported that an Egyptian security delegation is set to meet with Qatari and US counterparts in Doha on Wednesday.

Burns and McGurk may also add a stop in Israel after their meetings in Qatar and Egypt whose governments are mediating the talks between Israel and Hamas along with the US, one of the US officials said. (Read more)

3. Macron tells Netanyahu Gaza war must end, mum on freeing hostages - Times of Israel

In a phone call with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, French President Emmanuel Macron calls for an end to the war in Gaza and the return of hostages, according to a readout from the Élysée Palace, though he does not condition a ceasefire on the release of the captives.

“The ordeal of the Palestinians in Gaza must end,” says Macron.

Macron also expresses his support for Joe Biden’s ceasefire plan — which the US President presented as an Israeli proposal — and placed “overwhelming” responsibility on Hamas to accept the deal. (Read more)

4. At ‘emergency summit,’ EJA head calls on Israel to prepare for influx of European Jews - JNS

As hundreds of Jews descended on Amsterdam for an “emergency summit,” the head of the European Jewish Association on Monday called on Israel to prepare for a mass influx of immigrants as antisemitism skyrockets across the continent.

Rabbi Menachem Margolin, who had previously criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for encouraging European Jewry to make aliyah, has, given the current situation, changed tack.

“Prime Minister Netanyahu, we are not there yet but be ready. Get your government agencies ready. Because if European governments carry on as they have so far, if they continue to tolerate this flood of Jew-hatred, they can expect hundreds and thousands of us to leave,” Margolin said in his address to open the summit. 5. Iran’s acting FM meets Nasrallah to discuss Hezbollah’s war against Israel - JNS

Iran’s acting foreign minister met with Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut to discuss “political and security” developments in its war against Israel, the Tehran-backed terror proxy said on Tuesday.

Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani touched down in Lebanon on Monday for his first official visit since his predecessor was killed in a helicopter crash last month along with president Ebrahim Raisi.

According to a Hezbollah statement cited by local media, the meeting focused on “the latest political and security developments in the region, particularly on the Gaza and Lebanon fronts, as well as proposed solutions and potential scenarios for the progression of events.” (Read more)

1. S.C. Becomes 25th State to Protect Minors from Gender Transition Procedures - Washington Stand

While some states still allow children to go under the knife in the name of “gender identity,” the Palmetto State has become the latest to officially protect children from invasive gender transition interventions. On Tuesday, South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster (R) signed into law House Bill 4624, known as the “Help Not Harm” bill, prohibiting gender transition procedures for minors. McMaster said on social media that the new law “protects our state’s children from irreversible gender transition procedures and bans public funds from being used for them.”

The text of the legislation stipulates, “A physician, mental health provider, or other health care professional shall not knowingly provide gender transition procedures to a person under eighteen years of age.”

The text clarifies, “‘Gender transition procedures’ means puberty-blocking drugs, cross-sex hormones, or genital or nongenital gender reassignment surgery, provided or performed for the purpose of assisting an individual with a physical gender transition.” The legislation further bars public funds from being “used directly or indirectly for gender transition procedures” and demands that the “South Carolina Medicaid Program shall not reimburse or provide coverage for practices prohibited under the provisions of this chapter.” (Read more)

2. Ohio governor calls special session to pass legislation ensuring President Biden is on 2024 ballot - Associated Press

Ohio’s Republican Gov. Mike DeWine said Thursday that he is calling a rare special session of the General Assembly next week to pass legislation ensuring that President Joe Biden is on the state’s 2024 ballot.

The special session was called for Tuesday.
“Ohio is running out of time to get Joe Biden, the sitting President of the United States, on the ballot this fall. Failing to do so is simply unacceptable. This is ridiculous. This is (an) absurd situation,” DeWine said.

The question of whether Biden will appear on the ballot has become entangled in a partisan legislative fight to keep foreign money out of state ballot campaigns, a year after cash tied to a Swiss billionaire boosted a successful effort to enshrine abortion rights in the solidly red state’s constitution. Lord, in all the back and forth, we pray for our electoral process to be fair and true in its results. We pray also for integrity for election officials at all levels. We pray for transparency, accuracy, and exposing of wrong. Lastly, we pray that the media would report the truth and that Christians would be discerning as we seek the truth.

3. Louisiana governor signs law making abortion drugs controlled substances - WNG

Gov. Jeff Landry signed the bill into law late Friday afternoon. The law is scheduled to go into effect at the beginning of October.  It criminalizes the induction of an abortion without the mother’s consent or knowledge and reclassifies the abortion drugs mifepristone and misoprostol as Schedule IV controlled substances.

The reclassification would make it illegal to possess the drugs without a valid prescription. Abortion is already illegal in the state, with exceptions for cases in which the life of the mother is at stake.  The penalty for possessing the drugs would be a minimum of one year and a maximum of five years in prison, as well as a maximum fine of $5,000.

The bill says it will not be illegal, under that provision of the bill, for a pregnant woman to possess the drugs and consume them herself. (Read more)

- Lord we pray that Christian voters would see through deceptive arguments and realize that loving our neighbors–both mothers and babies–requires us to advocate for laws that protect both. We pray for women who have been forced into having an abortion that their abusers would face justice, and that these women would find healing and comfort in Christ.

4. Pro-Palestine rioters set fire to Israeli embassy in Mexico - DML News

Pro-Palestine rioters went on a rampage in Mexico City Tuesday night, and set fire to the Israeli Embassy. From the Jewish Chronicle: “Rioters on Tuesday set fire to the Israeli Embassy in Mexico during a protest ostensibly against the Israeli military operation in the southern Gazan city of Rafah. Masked protesters threw stones at security forces who had created a barricade preventing access to the diplomatic mission in the Mexico City’s Lomas de Chapultepec neighborhood.

Around 200 people participated in the “Urgent Action for Rafah” demonstration, dozens of whom attempted to break down the barriers, according to AFP.”

Videos posted to social media show a huge fire outside the Israeli Embassy, while the rioters chanted, beat drums and waved Palestinian flags. (Read more)

5. Federal judge rules New Hampshire law limiting teaching of race, gender topics unconstitutional - The Hill

A federal judge in New Hampshire struck down a New Hampshire law that limited public schools’ teaching of race and gender topics, ruling the law is unconstitutional Tuesday.

U.S. District Judge Paul J. Barbadoro’s decision is the first in the nation to overturn such a measure for kindergarten through 12th grade public schools, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of New Hampshire said Tuesday.

The state law sought to curb New Hampshire public schools from discussing “divisive concepts” related to race or sex, banning K-12 students from being “taught, instructed, inculcated or compelled to express belief in, or support for” the idea they are “inherently superior” to others based on their race, religion, gender identity or other characteristic. - Lord God, this grieves our hearts that this leadership is not stepping up to its responsibility in protecting our young people. We ask Lord that you continue to press on each, and every heart all over the world, the importance of protecting the little ones whom you’ve entrusted to us that we would lead and guide them in the way that they should go. We pray for repentance of our leadership that more leaders would stand up to protect our young children, no matter how great the backlash in Jesus name amen.

6. Boston Democratic mayor says criminals should not be prosecuted for theft, gang registry should be abolished - Fox News

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu advocated a soft-on-crime agenda by pushing to abolish the gang registry and arguing that criminal behavior – such as theft – should not be prosecuted. 

Prior to being elected mayor, Wu filled out the "2021 Boston Mayoral Candidate Questionnaire" from Progressive Massachusetts, a 501c4 nonprofit organization that tracks and ranks how progressive elected officials are. According to its website, the group "intends to transform Massachusetts into a bold laboratory for progressive state initiatives."

In the document, Wu outlined her most progressive commitments, including her support for noncitizens voting in Boston's local elections.  The mayor was asked, "Do you support shuttering the Boston Police gang database?"
She answered, "Yes." (Read more)

Biden Scheming To Oust Netanyahu?

Joe Biden may be scheming to oust Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. A recent series of meetings between Biden emissaries and opposition leaders in Israel indicates something more than just political differences is afoot. Biden and Netanyahu have publicly disagreed on the war on terror against Hamas. Biden has done what he can to frustrate Israeli war plans by demanding a ceasefire, withholding munitions, and negotiating with Hamas behind Israel’s back. In response, Netanyahu said in a May 10 interview on the Dr. Phil show, “We will do what we have to do to protect our country, protect our future…If Israel has to stand alone, we will stand alone.” It now appears Biden is trying to isolate Netanyahu.

On May 20, Joe Biden’s National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby told reporters National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan was in Israel and “He had chance to meet with the leader of the opposition, Yair Lapid, as well as the Minister of Defense, Mr. Gallant, and a couple of members of the Israeli war cabinet to include Benny Gantz…The purpose there was to talk, obviously, about the situation in Gaza and U.S. support–continued support for Israel in the face of the various threats that they’re under. And, again, there was a broad range of discussions here to include humanitarian assistance and making sure we can increase that flow, get it more sustained, as well as doing everything that they can to reassure and make comfortable humanitarian aid workers as that aid starts to get in.” Key words: “meet with the leader of the opposition.” Read More

Top Judge Blocks Complaints Against Trump Judge Aileen Cannon

The chief judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit has blocked complaints against the judge overseeing one of former President Donald Trump’s criminal cases.

Chief Judge William Pryor Jr., in a newly released order dated May 22, instructed the circuit court’s clerk to stop accepting new complaints against U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon after the clerk was flooded with complaints.

“Since May 16, 2024, the clerk of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit has received over 1,000 judicial complaints against Judge Cannon that raise allegations that are substantially similar to the allegations raised in previous complaints,” Judge Pryor, an appointee of former President George W. Bush, wrote in the order. “These complaints appear to be part of an orchestrated campaign.”

Judiciary rules enable each judicial council to act when a series of “many essentially identical complaints” from different people flood into the circuit in which the council is based. The council can instruct the circuit clerk “to accept only a certain number of such complaints for filing and to refuse to accept additional complaints.”

Judge Pryor recommended to the council that it instruct the clerk to stop taking additional complaints against Judge Cannon, and the council adopted the recommendation. Judge Pryor entered the new order on behalf of the council. (The Epoch Times) Read more here.

Rep Jordan urges Congress to 'defund lawfare activities' of Trump prosecutors
Jordan's proposal targets Special Counsel Jack Smith, Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis 

EXCLUSIVE: House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, told Fox News Digital he is proposing an appropriations package that would "defund the lawfare activities" of state and federal prosecutors leading "politically sensitive investigations," pointing specifically to Special Counsel Jack Smith, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. 

The proposal comes just days after former President Donald Trump was convicted on all 34 counts of falsifying business records, stemming from charges brought against him by Bragg.

Trump is also currently awaiting a Supreme Court ruling on whether he is immune from charges brought against him by Smith in his Jan. 6 investigation; awaiting a trial date on charges brought from Smith’s classified records case; and awaiting a trial date on charges brought by Willis in Georgia. Jordan sent his proposal Monday to House Appropriations Chairman Tom Cole, R-Okla. Fox News Digital obtained the letter and his proposal.

"The Committee on the Judiciary and its Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government continue to conduct vigorous oversight over the Biden Administration in an effort to protect Americans’ fundamental freedoms," Jordan wrote.

Jordan said he has spent the year conducting oversight of "the troubling rise in politicized prosecutions and the use of abusive ‘lawfare’ tactics to target political opponents. "We have seen rogue prosecutors abuse the rules of professional conduct and their duty to do justice in service of politicized ends," he said. 

Jordan recommended the 2025 fiscal year appropriations package include language "to eliminate federal funding for state prosecutors or state attorneys general involved in lawfare and to zero out federal funding for federal prosecutors engaged in such abuse." 

Separately, Jordan proposed to Chairman Cole that Congress focus on "reining in abusive federal law enforcement agencies." 

Jordan said his committee has received testimony this year "about egregious abuses, misallocation of federal law-enforcement resources, and misconduct within the leadership ranks" of the FBI. 

"We recommend that the Appropriations Committee include language to eliminate any funding for the FBI that is not essential for the agency to execute its mission, including rescinding prior appropriations and prohibiting new taxpayer funding for any new FBI headquarters facility," he wrote. "We also recommend tying funding for the FBI to specific policy changes – such as requiring the FBI to record interviews – that will promote accountability and transparency at the FBI." By now, our citizens are tired of being harassed by different federal agencies, simply because we desire to practice our right to the freedom of speech, guaranteed in our Constitution. We ask, dear Lord, that this Committee be blessed with the resources to do its job thoroughly and completely so that, over time, the pattern of harassment by different federal agencies would cease. CitizenGO Stalls WHO Pandemic Treaty in Epic Geneva Battle!

You have made an outstanding difference!

Our team just got back from Geneva, and let me tell you, the showdown of the Pandemic Treaty was nothing short of epic. What an incredible journey it has been! 

Thanks to your unwavering support, and that of 2.5 million citizens, with our relentless team on the ground, we managed to stir things up, expose their agenda, and most importantly for now, stall their Pandemic Treaty! 

A few minutes before midnight on Saturday, the verdict came in on the two WHO documents. 

Here’s what happened - the WHO has been forced to extend the negotiation process for the Pandemic Treaty by a year, pushing it to the next World Health Assembly. 

They ran out of time - despite moving deadlines repeatedly, breaking all schedule rules, and negotiating till as late as 4 am!

You have been part of this crucial victory, and I thank you on behalf of my team and the millions of citizens who have participated in this epic battle against the UN elites!

This victory also gives us more time to keep fighting and keep the pressure on.

On the ground in Geneva, we were everywhere – from intense pressure on delegates and decision-makers to high-energy protests - our van was even stopped by the police, but that never deterred us. 

They thought their secrecy would protect them - that they could quietly push this through behind closed doors. 

But then we showed up - and we have been their worst nightmare, ever since! 

Let’s keep going, keep fighting, and keep winning because together, we are truly making a difference!

Mount Kanlaon volcano erupts sending 3-mile ash plume into the sky

CNN) — Hundreds of residents living near Mount Kanlaon in the Philippines were ordered to evacuate Tuesday after the volcano erupted, sending a three-mile tall (five-kilometer) ash column into the sky that caused dozens of flights to be canceled.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said Mount Kanlaon erupted for six minutes on Monday evening, causing a “strong earthquake,” as the agency warned that ash fall and sulphuric odor would affect surrounding villages.

Forty-three volcanic earthquakes had been recorded in the 24 hours to midnight Monday, according to the agency’s volcano summary.

Images on social media showed an ash cloud shooting into the starry night sky. Others showed a thick blanket of ash covering surrounding villages.

Over 60 flights from three domestic carriers were canceled overnight, impacting over 5,000 passengers, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines.

The Bacolod-Silay Airport resumed operations by 11 a.m. on Tuesday but passengers are expected to face delays.

Since the alert level on the volcano was raised to 2 out of a possible 5 early Tuesday, local government officials have ordered the mandatory evacuation of all residents living within a 3-kilometer (1.8-mile) radius of the volcano. Read More

Harvard Law Journal Concludes Unborn Babies Have Constitutional Rights 
The Fourteenth Amendment, which was adopted in 1868, declares that no state shall “deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.” A debate that has been raging in courtrooms for years is whether the “life” part includes unborn persons. Harvard Law student Joshua Craddock did some constitutional soul searching to answer that question in a new report for the Harvard Law Journal, concluding that unborn babies do fall under the Fourteenth Amendment’s protections. One might look to dictionaries of legal and common usage, the context of the English common law tradition, and cases that attempted to construe the meaning of the text in a manner consistent with original meaning. Using this methodology, it is reasonable to construe the Fourteenth Amendment to include prenatal life. 

The structure of the argument is simple: The Fourteenth Amendment’s use of the word “person” guarantees due process and equal protection to all members of the human species. The preborn are members of the human species from the moment of fertilization. Therefore, the Fourteenth Amendment protects the preborn. If one concedes the minor premise (that preborn humans are members of the human species), all that must be demonstrated is that the term “person,” in its original public meaning at the time of the Fourteenth Amendment’s adoption, applied to all members of the human species. In addition to using language to prove his point, Craddock puts his conclusions in context, noting that at the time the Fourteenth Amendment was written, several states called the unborn person a “child” in their anti-abortion laws. We praise You for the revelation that in 1859, the American Medical Association had mandated government protection for the "independent and actual existence of the child before birth"; and the written proof that in anti-abortion laws, many states referred to the "unborn" as "a child" when the Fourteenth Amendment was written.
