TODAY'S TOP STORY #1: SRI LANKA
Sri Lankan prime minister:
Island's economy 'has collapsed'

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (AP) — Sri Lanka's debt-laden economy has “collapsed” after months of shortages of food, fuel and electricity, the prime minister told lawmakers Wednesday in comments that underscored the country's dire situation as it seeks help from international lenders.
Ranil Wickremesinghe told Parliament the South Asian nation faces “a far more serious situation" than the shortages alone, and he warned of "a possible fall to rock bottom.” "Our economy has completely collapsed,” he said.

The crisis on the island of 22 million is considered its worst in recent memory, but Wickremesinghe did not cite any specific new developments. His comments appeared intended to emphasize to critics and opposition lawmakers that he has inherited a difficult task that cannot be fixed quickly.

“He’s setting expectations really, really low,” said Anit Mukherjee, a policy fellow and economist at the Center for Global Development in Washington. Wickremesinghe's remarks also sent a message to potential lenders: “You can’t let a country of such strategic importance collapse," said Mukherjee, who noted that Sri Lanka sits in one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes.

The Sri Lankan economy is foundering under the weight of heavy debts, lost tourism revenue and other effects of the pandemic, as well as surging costs for commodities. The result is a country hurtling towards bankruptcy, with hardly any money to import gasoline, milk, cooking gas and toilet paper.

Wickremesinghe said Sri Lanka is unable to purchase imported fuel due to heavy debt owed by its petroleum corporation. The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation is $700 million in debt, he told lawmakers. “As a result, no country or organization in the world is willing to provide fuel to us. They are even reluctant to provide fuel for cash.” (Yahoo News)

- Holy One, we pray for the people of Sri Lanka.  This is a tragic consequence for this struggling country from the chaos and confusion of the last three years.  We also see a strong link stemming from the intentions of the rest of the world, as they strive to overthrow the use of fossil fuels.  We ask You to draw this nation to You and send ministries that could provide resources and redemption. Let Your mercy be as silver and Your love, precious as gold.

- "Jesus said to them, 'I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.'"  (John 6:35)
TOP STORY #2: THE GAS TAX
Biden will call on Congress to pause
gas tax for 3 months
The federal government currently charges 18 cents in taxes per gallon of gasoline.

President Biden will ask Congress on Wednesday to suspend the federal gas tax until September as Americans across the country grapple with soaring prices as the pump.

The president will urge members of Congress to institute a three-month federal gas tax holiday without stripping money from the Highway Trust Fund that finances highways and mass transit.

"I want to be very clear, the president is calling on Congress to take this step to help American families without harming the Highway Trust Fund, which is funded by these taxes," a senior administration official said Tuesday evening.

The official suggested that the federal government's budget deficit shrinking by $1.6 trillion this year gives the U.S. leeway to suspend the gas tax while using other revenues to make the Highway Trust Fund whole for the roughly $10 billion cost.

The federal government currently charges 18 cents in taxes per gallon of gasoline and 24 cents per gallon of diesel, the official said.

Biden will also call on states, oil companies and retailers to pause gas taxes. The Penn Wharton Budget Model published estimates Wednesday revealing that gas tax holidays in Georgia, Maryland and Connecticut saved consumers money at the pump. Most of the savings in these areas went to consumers instead of service stations and others in the energy sector.

The cost of gas began to soar last fall and continued to rise following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in late February, although the administration is framing the increase in gas prices as the "Putin price hike." Read More

TOP STORY #3: THE GUN BILL
Here are the 14 GOP senators who voted to advance gun safety bill

The Senate on Tuesday broke through nearly 30 years of stalemate on gun control legislation by voting 64 to 34 to advance an 80-page gun safety bill to respond to the mass shootings in Buffalo, N.Y., and Uvalde, Texas, that left 31 people dead, including 19 school children.

The Senate voted to proceed to the bill just more than an hour after negotiators unveiled its text, giving lawmakers little time to digest its details.  The bill had strong momentum after a group of 10 Republican senators led by Sen. John Cornyn (Texas), who has an A-plus rating from the NRA, earlier this month signed onto a bipartisan framework of principles with 10 Democrats.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) gave the effort another boost last week when he announced that he supported the bipartisan framework and would also support legislation based on its key points.  (The Hill) Read more here.

- Lord we pray that our leadership in Congress would realize that when a select group of people are trying to destroy fundamental rights of being an American bipartisanship is not the way to go. We pray that those that promised to uphold our rights would stand their ground and not bow down to the pressure and culture of the day. We pray that your fire of boldness and your fire of justice and righteousness would fall on Congress, breaking the power of the enemy in the mighty name of Jesus, amen.

“Today we are taking Israel on a new path,” said Likud MK Yariv Levin. “We are beginning to get Israel back on track. 3. Israel officially experiencing a sixth wave of COVID-19 - World Israel News

Israel has officially entered its sixth wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, with just over 20,000 new cases reported over the last two days, the highest daily numbers since the beginning of April.

This follows the 7,000 infections recorded on Friday and nearly 5,000 on Saturday, when fewer people are tested due to the Jewish Sabbath.

The average positivity rate of the tests over the last week is high, standing at some 36 percent. The number of severe cases has also risen sharply, with 180 people currently seriously ill, a jump of over 100% compared to last week. Of that number, 36 are in critical condition and 37 are intubated. (Read more)

4. Chaos at Ben Gurion Airport seems to worsen as lines stretch out of terminal - Times of Israel

Months of heavy congestion and an overall sense of chaos at Ben Gurion Airport seemed to worsen on Wednesday, with long lines reaching outside the airport and attempts to ease the crowding by using a secondary terminal failing to address the thing needed most — more staff.

Scenes of chaos at Israel’s main international airport have become the new normal over the past few months.

1. Trump says Senate 'Gun Control' bill is 'first step' toward taking away firearms - Just The News

Former President Donald Trump on Wednesday said that the Senate is pushing a "Gun Control" bill, which will be the "first step" in the movement to confiscate firearms.

The deal on 'Gun Control' currently being structured and pushed in the Senate by the Radical Left Democrats, with the help of Mitch McConnell, RINO Senator John Cornyn of Texas, and others, will go down in history as the first step in the movement to TAKE YOUR GUNS AWAY. Republicans, be careful what you wish for!!!" Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social.

- Lord God we pray that our representatives in Washington would have eyes to see and ears to hear what your Spirit is saying. We pray that they would have boldness to defend our rights but even if they fail and blatantly decide to rebel against the American public, we thank you Lord that you are King of kings and Lord of lords and that you will never fail us. We thank you that no matter what happens you will always walk with us showing us what to do. Amen.

2. Jason Johnson: Donald Trump, Rudy Giuliani Terrorists - Brietbart

MSNBC contributor political professor Jason Johnson said Tuesday on “Deadline” that former President Donald Trump and his former attorney Rudy Giuliani are “terrorists.” Johnson added that the Republican Party is a “white nationalist coup.”

Johnson added, “The way that Donald Trump has sort of weaponized his own bigotry, right? There’s a guy I talked to in the summer of 2020 named Nathan Calloway in Columbus, Ohio, who was providing medical aid during a Black Lives Matter protest, and Trump put him in a tweet, and people chased him around.”

He concluded, “How many different people did Donald Trump and his cronies have to attack, have to threaten before we recognize that the man is a terrorist and everybody who works with him is a terrorist. Rudy Giuliani is a terrorist. This is not political activity. This is not passion.” (Read more)

3. Second pandemic'? Biden alarms Twitter with his cryptic comments - Fox News

During presidential remarks on COVID-19 vaccines for children under 5 years old, President Joe Biden alarmed Twitter users when he spoke of the government preparing for a "second pandemic."

A reporter prompted Biden’s head-turning remarks with a question on what spending the U.S. government is still prepared to do in order to manufacture and distribute more vaccines and maintain the infrastructure necessary to combat COVID-19 as it lingers throughout the country.

- In the mighty name of Jesus we cancel these Idle words and curse words that were announced recently over our nation and the entire world. We plead the blood of Jesus over these words that they are canceled and that they will be of no affect in Jesus name amen.

- “…And I tell you that on the Judgment Day people will be responsible for every careless thing they have said.” (Matthew 12:36)

4. US now working to expedite baby formula shipments from Mexico to ease continuing shortage - Just The News

The Biden administration announced Wednesday that it will help in efforts to import the equivalent of about 16 million 8-ounce baby formula bottles from Mexico to help ease a nationwide shortage of the infant food.

The effort is being led by the Department of Health and Human Services and includes expediting trucks delivering about 1 million pounds of Gerber Good Start Gentle infant formula from a Nestlé plant to U.S. retailers, according to the Associated Press. The effort will nearly doubling the amount of baby formula being imported to the U.S. to date, the White House says.

The shortage started with the closure in February of the largest U.S. baby food manufacturing plant over contamination concerns. The first efforts to get formula from other countries to ease the U.S. shortage started with cargo flights from Europe and Australia, which includes two new rounds of air shipments that started this past weekend. (Read more)

- Lord God we plead the blood of Jesus over these shipments and deliveries that they get to the United States safely and quickly. We pray for all the struggling families out there, Lord, that you would make a way where there seems to be no way giving us continuous guidance and direction on how to navigate through these hard times. In Jesus name amen.

6. Mark Cuban’s new drug company exposes billions in government overspending - Washington Examiner

The United States government could save billions of healthcare dollars if it purchased generic drugs at the prices offered by Mark Cuban’s new online pharmacy that was launched this year.

In a comparison between Medicare’s spending in 2020 and the prices of Cuban’s Cost Plus Drug Company, researchers found that Medicare could have saved $3.6 billion, according to new research from Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School published Monday in the journal Annals of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Hussain Saleem Lalani, a researcher at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and the study’s lead author, said that the study "does show that Medicare is overpaying for some of the generic drugs.” (Read more)

- Lord God only with your direction can we fix all the messes our government has made, including in our healthcare system. This system was supposed to be built to serve others but instead it’s become a wasteful entity serving only those at the top. This should not be. We humble ourselves before you God and look to you only for direction for our health and how to clean up this corrupt system. Give us your wisdom Lord for this situation. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

7. Yesli Vega wins Virginia GOP nod to challenge Democratic Rep. Abigail Spanberger - Washington Examiner

Yesli Vega on Tuesday emerged from a crowded Republican primary contest in Virginia's 7th Congressional District for a chance to challenge incumbent Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D).

Vega, a deputy in the Prince William County Sheriff’s Office and member of the county's board of supervisors, is an "embodiment of the American dream," according to her campaign website. Born to refugees from El Salvador, Vega is running on curtailing the Biden administration's policies and returning to conservative values.

“You and I know our conservative values of freedom, limited government, the rule of law, and a firm reliance on our Creator are the things that will turn our blessed republic around," Vega says on her website. 10. Presbyterian reverend who compares Zionism to apartheid named to key World Council of Churches post; WCC anti-Semitism continues - Israel Hayom

B'nai Brith International expressed concern and outrage over the newly elected general secretary of the World Council of Churches, Rev. Professor Dr. Jerry Pillay, who has a history of making anti-Jewish and anti-Israel comments.

Pillay, a Presbyterian and dean at the University of Pretoria in South Africa, will start his new position in 2023.

"If protecting Jews' basic equality, dignity and security is inseparable from true ecumenism and the pursuit of human rights, Rev. Pillay's rise risks devastating harm to the cause of social justice," David Michaels, B'nai B'rith's director of United Nations and Intercommunal Affairs, wrote last week in a Medium blog post.

Pillay's appointment, wrote Michaels, is "not shocking, but astounding and alarming nonetheless." (Read more)

- Dear Father in Heaven, we forgive Dr. Pillay for his egregious errors in regard to Israel.  He does not know what he is doing.  Please give him Your understanding and thoughts about Israel so he can repent  and avoid the consequences which Your Word speaks of for those who curse Israel.  Father, we ask that You visit the members of the World Council of Churches and warn them of their positions toward the “apple of Your eye.”  Give them encounters with those who can show them Your point of view and open their eyes to the truth.

Gen. 12:3 – And I will bless them that bless thee and curse them that curse thee …”

Zech 2:8 – “ . . .for he that touches you touches the apple of His eye.”

Job 13:14-17 – For God speaks once, yes twice, yet man perceives it not.  In a dream, in a vision of the night, hen deep sleep falls upon men, in slumbering upon the bed.  Then He opens the ears of men, and seals their instructions, That he may withdraw man from his purpose and hide pride from man.

11. G7, NATO leaders to ratchet up pressure on Russia, keep eye on China -U.S. officials - Reuters

Leaders from the Group of Seven rich democracies and the NATO alliance will work to increase pressure on Russia over its war in Ukraine next
week, while underscoring their continued concerns about China, senior U.S. officials said on Wednesday. President Joe Biden leaves Saturday to meet with other G7 leaders in southern Germany before heading to Madrid for a summit where NATO is expected to announce plans to expand its forces in eastern Europe and Washington will lay out steps to strength European security.

Inclusion, for the first time, of leaders from Australia, Japan, South Korea and New Zealand in the NATO summit was aimed at showing that the war in Ukraine has not detracted from Western nations' focus on China, the officials said.

G7 leaders, meeting at an alpine castle an hour south of Munich on June 26-28, are also expected to address China's "coercive economic practices," which have become even more aggressive in recent years, one of the officials said. "Russia's war against Ukraine has galvanized our partnerships around the world," a second official said. "It's also showing how Ukraine is not causing us to take our eye off the ball on China. In fact, quite the opposite." (Read more)

- Father, let these plans of men and king-makers be as dust in the wind.  We recognize that as plots are multiplied, so are debts and favors.  We pray for righteous leadership in the earth that follows the way of Almighty God.  Holy King, we pray for Your intentions to be fulfilled and every nation to take responsibility for their own sovereign governance and regional relationships.

- "Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel:  'I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you in the way you should go.'"         (Isaiah 48:17)

The Daily Jot

Stupidocrisy:It's Like Riding A Bike

The Daily Jot, Bill Wilson, June 22, 2022

Some things you just never forget—like how to ride a bike. Unless, of course, you are Joe Biden. Biden was out saving fossil fuel consumption and reducing his carbon footprint with a bike ride. He stopped to greet some people and took a hard fall to the pavement—similar to his job approval ratings which Rasmussen Daily Presidential Tracking shows that 59% of Americans disapprove. Said he got his foot caught. Kind of like he does on a regular basis only this time it was on his bike pedal. The video looks like he forgot to put his foot down when he stopped. The media and the White House downplayed the incident much like they do when he trips and falls going up the tarmac platform to Air Force One.

Maybe it’s not fair to make fun of the President, but all this forgetting and tripping and falling seems very symbolic to Biden’s time in office, which is a failure at hyper-speed on behalf of every American citizen. We are paying record high prices for gasoline—something that Biden says is a good thing because it will make us buy electric cars. Well, food prices are also at the highest we’ve seen since Jimmy “Crater” Carter 40 years ago, another president whose policies tanked the US economy, caused gas lines, nearly bankrupted the farming industry, and put a big hurt on the people who elected him. Do you see the pattern? Like Carter, Biden sees no end to the inflation and tells us we just have to ride it out. Read More

Additional Prayer over the Gun Control Bill
Father, we ask for two specific things in this time:

(1) Raise up a strong, deep sense of gravity among your people in the Senate about the full extent of what is happening with this gun-related legislation. May they be moved to move heaven and earth, as needed, both figuratively and literally, to stop this legislation to the extent that it is not your will for this Nation.

(2) Give Senators a willingness to reconsider their vote on passage separately, as necessary, from their vote on debate for this bill. May this not be about changing a vote on a bill, but clearly seen as a vote that could quite directly send this legislation into law and into full affect on all Americans.

We thank You, O Lord, for hearing our prayers, in Your Name, amen and amen.

“I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.” (Psalm 3:4)
Update from Uvalde
Shot Uvalde teacher called police officer husband, told him she was dying. He tried to rescue her but was stopped, removed from scene — and his gun was taken.

Eva Mireles — a teacher who was fatally shot during last month's massacre at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas — called her police officer husband and told him she was dying, but when he tried to rescue her, he was detained, his gun was taken, and he was removed from the scene, according to Col. Steven McCraw, director of the state Department of Public Safety, NBC News reported.

What are the details?

McCraw — speaking Tuesday during a Texas Senate hearing on the police response to the massacre — described what Mireles said to her husband, Officer Ruben Ruiz, and what happened to him when he tried to take action, the network said.

“We got an officer, Officer Ruiz, whose wife had called him and said she [had] been shot, and she’s dying,” McCraw said, according to video of the hearing. “What happened to him was he tried to move forward into the hallway ... he was detained, and they took his gun away from him and escorted him off the scene.”

Mireles, who taught fourth-graders, was one of two teachers killed in the May 24 massacre that also took the lives of 19 students, NBC News said. Ruiz is an Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District officer, the network added.

McCraw did not say which agency removed Ruiz from school grounds, KWTX-TV reported. (The Blaze) Read more here.

Holy King, God of Justice and God of Mercy – we beseech You to use this situation so that it never happens again.  We cannot even conceive of the pain and heartbreak of this beautiful teacher's police officer husband and their children.  Oh Majesty, please hold them all in the palm of Your hand and administer hope and healing so unforgiveness does not lay hold of their hearts.  We absolutely call for justice in this situation against the incredibly irresponsible behavior of the commander on-scene.  He (and all involved) need Your mercy Abba.  Let Your truth shine in the midst of this horror, in Jesus name.

- "Deep calls unto deep at the noise of Your waterfalls; All Your waves and billows have gone over me. The Lord will command His lovingkindness in the daytime, And in the night His song shall be with me – A prayer to the God of my life."  (Ps. 42:7-8)

More Election Results
Tuesday’s election results boosted Donald Trump’s overall endorsement record to 133-10.

The big race yesterday was the Alabama Republican Senate runoff between Katie Britt and Rep. Mo Brooks. Britt, who was endorsed by Trump, ran away with the runoff, taking 63% of the vote. Britt faces Dr. Will Boyd in the November general election.

In Georgia, two Trump-endorsed candidates came up short in the runoff races for the Sixth and Tenth Congressional Districts. But the candidates who won, Dr. Rich McCormick and Mike Collins, ran as pro-MAGA, pro-Trump candidates.

In the November general election, McCormick will face businessman Bob Christian and Collins will face Tabitha Johnson-Green, a registered nurse.

In Virginia, Republican primaries yesterday set the stage for two critical House races that will determine the balance of power in Congress next year.

State Sen. Jen Kiggans won the Republican nomination to take on Democrat Rep. Elaine Lauria in the Second Congressional District. This is a tossup seat that has flipped parties in recent elections.

And Yesli Vega captured the GOP nomination in the Seventh Congressional District. Vega is challenging Democrat Rep. Abigail Spanberger in another key tossup seat.

Deadliest earthquake in 20 years leaves more than
1,000 dead in Afghanistan
Following deadly floods, a 5.9 magnitude earthquake Wednesday morning left more than a thousand people dead and officials warn the number could increase as search and rescue efforts continue.

Early Wednesday morning, a powerful earthquake killed over 1,000 people and left hundreds more injured in a rural, mountainous region of southeastern Afghanistan, officials told Bakhtar News Agency (BNA). As more information comes from the remote mountain villages, officials say the death toll is expected to grow.

"The death toll is likely to rise as some of the villages are in remote areas in the mountains, and it will take some time to collect details," Salahuddin Ayubi, an interior ministry official said, Reuters reported.

With the increasing death toll, Wednesday morning's quake is now the deadliest earthquake to hit the country since 2002, when a 6.1 magnitude tremor killed about 1,000 people.

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded the magnitude at 5.9, with a depth of 6.21 miles (10 kilometers), which is a factor that could increase the amount of damage. The earthquake's epicenter was in Afghanistan's Paktika province, which is just near the border and roughly about 31 miles (50 kilometers) southwest of the Afghanistan city, Khost. Read More

‘A Sign From God’: Cross Miraculously Remains After Fire Torches Texas Church
Pastor Sonny Smith is calling it “a sign from God” after his church’s sanctuary burned to the ground with only one thing remaining upright: the cross. “To me, that was a sign from God, saying, ‘Don’t worry, I’m still here and I’m going to lead you forward,'” the preacher told KDFW-TV, noting the congregation would meet outside, near the scene of the fire. “Shed some tears together over what was — but also create some excitement for what God plans for us in the future,” Smith continued, referring to the Sunday outdoor gathering, which came two days after the building went up in flames. “I can tell you what’s inside of our church family: it’s faith.”

During an interview with CBS News, Smith called the cross’ survival “an absolute miracle. That cross is where we would get little pieces of paper with a string and everyone put all their family members and different ones they wanted to pray for and we hung them up on that cross,” he explained. “It’s an absolute miracle that that cross made it through the fire when nothing else did.” A spokesperson for the Wise County Emergency Services Department No. 2 told Fox News the fire at Balsora Baptist Church was “a devastating loss to our community” but called the still-standing cross a “sight to behold. The fire took the structure, but not the cross,” added the representative. “A symbol that the building was just that, a building. The church is the congregation, and where two or more gather, there He shall be also.” (CBN) Read More Here.
Lord, we praise You for revealing Yourself in beautiful ways. Let your gentle "signs and wonders" always be carried in our hearts as a reminder that You promise to never forsake Your people. We bless you Lord and ask that the miraculous news of this standing cross bring comfort to the congregation and also spread like 'wildfire' thorough-out the community for Your Glory- In Jesus name, Amen.

- "For the mountains may move and the hills disappear, but even then my faithful love for you will remain. My covenant of blessing will never be broken", says the Lord who has mercy on you."  (Isaiah 54:10)

The King of Love

Words: Henry Baker
Music: Ancient Irish tune

Scripture: The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. Psalm 23:1

Lyrics:
The King of love my Shepherd is,
Whose goodness faileth never,
I nothing lack if I am His
And He is mine forever.

Where streams of living water flow
My ransomed soul He leadeth,
And where the verdant pastures grow,
With food celestial feedeth.

Perverse and foolish oft I strayed,
But yet in love He sought me,
And on His shoulder gently laid,
And home, rejoicing, brought me.

In death’s dark vale I fear no ill
With Thee, dear Lord, beside me;
Thy rod and staff my comfort still,
Thy cross before to guide me.

Thou spread’st a table in my sight;
Thy unction grace bestoweth;
And O what transport of delight
From Thy pure chalice floweth!

And so through all the length of days
Thy goodness faileth never;
Good Shepherd, may I sing Thy praise
Within Thy house forever.
