Tonga volcano eruption and tsunami: More help going to outer islands, as locals sweep ash from airport runway by hand
|
|
Tongan officials have revealed just how devastating the weekend's volcanic eruption and tsunami were. The Tongan Government late last night called the events on Saturday evening an "unprecedented disaster".
"As a result of the eruption, a volcanic mushroom plume was released reaching the stratosphere and extending radially covering all Tonga islands, generating tsunami waves rising up to 15 metres, hitting the west coasts of Tongatapu Islands, ʻEua and Haʻapai Islands," said the first update from the island kingdom.
Aid from New Zealand left on Navy ships yesterday, as aircraft are not yet able to land on the main airport runway because of ash. It is expected to open some time tomorrow morning - allowing RNZAF aircraft to bring in essential items and for aid to land safely.
Defence Minister Peeni Henare spoke of the lengths members of the public have gone to, to help clear the runway. "The people in Tonga are, in some parts, sweeping the runway by hand, so it's taken a bit of time," he told Newstalk ZB's Tim Dower this morning.
Tongan officials confirmed three deaths have been reported and a number of people were injured.
Severe damage on outer islands - all homes on Mango Island destroyed
Crew members were equipped with relief items including water, food and tents. Because of what was described as "the severity" of the damage seen there, the patrol vessel was sent again yesterday with another health team, more resources and emergency responders to Mango, Fonoifua and Nomuka islands.
"The first consignment is headed for these islands as all houses were destroyed on Mango island; only two houses remain on Fonoifua island with extensive damage on Nomuka island," the media release said. (New Zealand Herald) Read more here.

- Father God, we thank You for the fact that so few lost their lives in this devastating volcano and tsunami that followed. We lift up the families of the three who lost their lives, asking that Your Hand of comfort would rest upon each one. We pray, too, for those who are now bringing aide to these besieged islands. We ask for quick and effective relief for all who have been impacted by this event. Amen.
- "Blessed are those that mourn, for they shall be comforted." (Matthew 5:4)

1. PM offers 'security and intelligence support' in wake of Iran-backed attack on UAE - Israel Hayom
Israel has offered security and intelligence support to the United Arab Emirates against further drone attacks after a deadly strike by Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthi group, according to a letter released on Tuesday by Israel's leader.
Three people were killed and six wounded on Monday when three tanker trucks exploded in Abu Dhabi, the UAE capital. A Houthi military spokesman said the group fired "a large number" of drones and five ballistic missiles in the attack.
On Twitter, Prime Minister Naftali Bennett condemned what he described as a "terrorist drone attack". (Read More)

2. Germans Blindside the IDF, Doubling Cost of 3 Submarines - Jewish Press
German submarine manufacturer ThyssenKrupp recently raised the price of three new submarines ordered by Israel’s defense ministry by a whopping €1.2 billion ($1.37 billion). The increase was brought up for discussion by a ministerial committee on Sunday and was reportedly approved. This is the first time the Israeli public is being informed of this alarming price hike.
On Sunday, the Bennett government ordered the establishment of a state commission of inquiry to investigate Case 3000, which involved the dispute between the security apparatus and former-Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the purchase of a ThyssenKrupp and Netanyahu’s consenting to ThyssenKrupp’s selling advanced submarines to Egypt (Bennett Cabinet to Approve Inquiry into Submarines Affair that May Impact Netanyahu). Now it appears that the relationship between the IDF and ThyssenKrupp just continues to spread joy everywhere.
The three submarines whose price has been doubled will join three submarines ThyssenKrupp has already sold to the IDF and which are at the center of Case 3000. ThyssenKrupp was clearly taking advantage of the fact that the IDF Navy’s underwater future was tied to the German vessels, and so, a few months ago, as negotiations with ThyssenKrupp were progressing toward signing a detailed MOU, the defense ministry announced behind closed doors that the Germans had jumped their financial demand to €3 billion ($3.42 billion). Presumably, the cost of turning to a different manufacturer at this stage of the game would be considerable, and delivery dates would be pushed off from around 2030 to who knows when. (Read More)

3. In first since 2017, police try to evict family in flashpoint Jerusalem neighborhood - Times of Israel
Dozens of police officers sought to remove a Palestinian family from their home in Sheikh Jarrah on Monday in order to confiscate the land for public use, in what would be the first eviction in the flashpoint East Jerusalem neighborhood since 2017.
Tensions ran high at the site starting Monday morning. As soon as police arrived, the Salihiya family barricaded themselves inside their home. Police bulldozed a plant nursery belonging to the family on the plot, while they negotiated with residents over their home.
Family patriarch Mahmoud Salihiya, standing next to a canister of fuel on the roof, threatened to burn himself alive, taking his house with him, rather than let himself be evicted. (Read More)

4. EU pours $500 M. into illegal Palestinian takeover of Area C - World Israel News
The European Union (EU) has invested half a billion dollars in support of the Palestinian Authority’s illegal takeover of Area C in Judea and Samaria, a comprehensive report by the Ministry of Intelligence on the PA’s plan to take over Area C shows.
The report was exposed Tuesday ahead of a special discussion at the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee at the initiative of the Land of Israel Lobby, which members are warning that “the battle for Judea and Samaria has reached a critical stage.”
According to the report, the PA employs about 600 workers in some 100 registration branches who are engaged in a huge project to map properties, including in Area C, which is under full Israeli control as per the Oslo Accords. The stated goal of the project is gaining and claiming ownership of the land.
The mapping project, which gained momentum in 2019 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2022, is sometimes carried out with threats to landowners, and includes IDF camps and training zones, and Israeli communities. (Read More)

5. Israel Police accused of using NSO spyware on civilians for years without oversight - Times of Israel
The Israel Police has for years been making widespread use of spyware made by the controversial NSO Group against Israeli civilians, including people not suspected of crimes, exploiting a legal loophole and keeping the surveillance under tight secrecy without oversight by a court or a judge, according to an explosive investigation published Tuesday by the Calcalist business news website.
Among the reported targets were two mayors, organizers of weekly protests against former prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, an associate of a senior politician, activists campaigning against LGBT pride parades, and employees in governmental firms.
In some cases, the company’s spyware was installed on civilians’ phones to obtain information unrelated to an existing investigation, with the purpose of using the information later as leverage against suspects in questioning. In other cases, police obtained incriminating information using the spyware and later claimed the source of the information couldn’t be revealed since it would expose intelligence assets. (Read More)

1. Pfizer CEO Predicts ‘Return to Normal’ by Spring But Expects COVID-19 to Circulate for Years - Epoch Times
Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla told French news outlets in recent interviews that, while he expects COVID-19 to continue to circulate for many years, he thinks future waves won’t be beset by major restrictions while predicting life will return to “normal” around springtime.
Bourla told French news outlet Le Figaro in an interview published Jan. 16 that he expects a “return to normal life” at some point in spring of this year, with the caveat that the dynamics of COVID-19 mutations and spread cloud the accuracy of any predictions.
COVID-19 is the disease caused by the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus, also known as SARS-CoV-2.
The Pfizer chief credited developments in COVID-19 testing, vaccines, and therapeutics for his optimistic outlook, telling BFM TV in a separate interview that he expects the current Omicron-driven wave to be the “last with so many restrictions.” (Read More)

|
- Dear Lord, how we pray this happens as this CEO says! We, however, also call in all heavenly forces to begin the release from all restrictions imposed so unnecessarily on the entire population of the earth. We call this CCP virus dead to inflicting further harm to people worldwide and declare that freedom from bondages will cease so that the Gospel may be preached to hearts now hungry to hear it.

2. Former NYC Mayor de Blasio says won't run for New York governor - Just The News
Former New York City Democrat Mayor Bill de Blasio said Tuesday that he will not run for governor in 2022. "I'm not going to be running for governor of New York state," he said in an online video. "But I'm going to devote every fiber of my being to fighting inequality in the state of New York."
In the video, the progressive Democrat, who left his mayor's post in December because of term limits, touted his governing record (including the infamous dropped groundhog incident.)
De Blasio had formed an exploratory candidate committee in the fall. He also said in the video that he would "share some more news with you in the days ahead," alluding to a different kind of political future. At present, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul is polling way out front in the Democratic primary for governor. (Read More)

- Father God, we thank You that this gives New Yorkers an opportunity to vote in someone who will be a governor after Your own heart and lead the state into policies that are pleasing to You and that respect the US Constitution. We pray for a heart change in the people of New York that would result in Your kind of freedom, prosperity, and righteousness.

3. Maxwell signals she will give up names of eight 'John Does' who allegedly slept with underage girls- Just The News
Convicted sex-trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell is signaling plans to end her legal battle to protect the names of eight men – "John Does" – accused of having sex with the underage girls whom she procured for them, herself and late boyfriend Jeffrey Epstein.
One of Maxwell's attorneys reportedly wrote a letter to federal Judge Loretta Preska saying his client would drop her fight to protect the names of the eight men who were named in a civil suit against Maxwell brought by Prince Andrew accuser Virginia Giuffre.
The letter, addressed the same day as news broke that the case against Andrew would move forward in court, reads, "After careful review of the detailed objections submitted by Non-Party Does 17, 53, 54, 55, 73, 93, and 151, counsel for Ghislaine Maxwell writes to inform the Court that she does not wish to further address those objections." We pray that these men and all others who have acted wickedly in similar manner will repent and seek You for salvation and cleansing from this abomination. 4. Democrat challenging DeSantis in 2022 compares GOP governor's policies to those of Hitler - Just The News
Democrat challenging Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis this year for his post is comparing the governor’s COVID-19 policies to those of during the Nazi regime of Adolf Hitler.
Challenger Nikki Fried, the state’s Agriculture commissioner and outspoken DeSantis critic, made the comment during an NPR interview Friday in which she was asked to explain a tweet in which she called DeSantis a "dictator."Fried responded by saying his policies are similar to those passed during "the rise of Hitler."
"Growing up in Miami, you know, and having neighbors that were Cubans – growing up with hearing the stories of so many of our Floridians who have left dictatorships and communism and socialist countries – and coming here to the state of Florida for capitalism, for open opportunities to succeed: [DeSantis] is doing everything possible to take away power from local governments," she said, according to the Daily Wire. (Read More)

|
- Father God, we are tired of hearing elected or aspiring officials who oppose left-wing policies likened to Hitler and the Nazi regime. This is getting so old; and it may be weakening or confusing the impact of the monstrous deeds committed by Hitler on those who are weak on their history of World War II. Lord, we ask that FL voters note all of the good and courageous acts of Gov. DeSantis during his term; and may the next governor of FL be the one best suited to bring blessing, righteousness and healing to the people of this beautiful state.
-You shall not give a false report; do not join your hand with a wicked person to be a malicious witness. You shall not follow the crowd in doing evil, nor shall you testify in a dispute so as to join together with a crowd in order to pervert justice; nor shall you show favor to a poor person in his dispute. (Exodus 23:1-3)

5. Michigan nursing home COVID deaths underreported by 30% under Whitmer - Just the News
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) under Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) underreported the number of people who died from COVID-19 in long-term care facilities by 30%, according to a report from the state's auditor general.
The report identified 8,061 COVID-linked deaths in long-term care (LTC) facilities, up from the 5,675 previously self-reported LTC deaths as of July 2, 2021. The spread between the two figures is actually 42%, but the auditor’s report spent several pages explaining why the state’s responsibility for undercounting was 30%.
The report comes in response to a request from Republican state Rep. Steven Johnson. It will likely become a point of contention during Gov. Whitmer's 2022 reelection campaign. (Read More)
|
|
- Lord God, Creator of Life, we bring this travesty before You, requesting Your judgment. Reported numbers of deaths may well have been understated (to protect the guilty?); but, Father, we believe the main point of contention is the life and death orders given by Michigan Gov. Whitmer, directing long-term care facilities to accept COVID-positive residents, thus spreading COVID and death throughout the facilities. Comfort families who lost loved ones and enable them to offer forgiveness, not just in MI but in other states such as NY where thousands died in similar circumstances. May Your judgments stand, Lord God.
- I know that the Lord will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and will execute justice for the needy. (Psalm 140:12)

6. 11-Term Democratic Rep Announces Retirement Ahead Of Midterms - The Daily Caller
Eleven-term Democratic Rhode Island Rep. Jim Langevin announced Tuesday that he will not run for reelection in 2022. Taking office in 2001, Langevin currently serves on the House Armed Services Committee, where he chairs the subcommittee on Cyber, Innovative Technologies, and Information Systems and the House Homeland Security Committee. Before his election to Congress, Langevin served in the Rhode Island House of Representatives and as the Secretary of State of Rhode Island. He was the first quadriplegic to be elected to the House of Representatives.
“It’s been the privilege of a lifetime to represent you as a state representative, as Secretary of State, and as your congressman,” Langevin said in a video posted to his YouTube channel. “We’ve been in this fight together, just like we always have.” (Read More)

- Lord, You know the reasons behind Rhode Island State Rep. Langevin’s retirement. We pray he is in Your will in this decision. We ask that You hand-pick his replacement in the House, someone who will walk in Your righteousness, justice, and wisdom. Wake up the citizens of his state and the U.S. to understand the times we are in and what to do about it.

7. ‘Take Me To Your Leader’: Sen. John Kennedy Said It ‘Would Be Embarrassing’ For Aliens Arriving In America To Meet Biden - The Daily Caller
Republican Louisiana Sen. John Kennedy claimed during a Monday appearance on “Hannity” that President Joe Biden’s handling of the economy and illegal immigration would harm Americans’ image in the event of an alien landing.
After host Sean Hannity cited statistics on inflation, Kennedy pivoted to a discussion about the Senate’s 60-vote threshold for breaking a filibuster. Kennedy then speculated about the potential arrival of extraterrestrials to the U.S.
“If the aliens landed tomorrow and said, ‘take me to your leader,’ it would be embarrassing,” he said, noting that the Biden administration “mismanaged … COVID … inflation … the border … [and] foreign policy, all in one year.” (Read More)

|
- Oh goodness Lord . . . this conspiracy theory of aliens landing on earth is good fodder for entertainment. This whole notion is a little ridiculous. However, the premise that the Biden administration is an embarrassment and disaster is not. We pray for adjustment to take place from heaven, not aliens, so that the path that we are travelling will be radically altered. May we once again stand as Your covenant nation in right relationship with You. In Jesus name.

8. Supreme Court rejects bid to block mask mandate on airplanes - The Hill
The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected a request to block a federal mask mandate for air travel. The emergency application was filed by a father on behalf of himself and his 4-year-old autistic son, both of whom claim to be medically incapable of wearing masks for extended periods.
Their request was filed to Justice Neil Gorsuch, who handles emergency applications arising in several Western states, and he referred the matter to the full court. The justices denied the request without comment or noted dissent.
Under an executive order signed by President Biden, the Transportation Security Administration requires passengers on airplanes and other public transportation to wear masks to reduce the spread of the coronavirus, which has killed more than 850,000 in the U.S. (Read More)

|
- Father, we pray for the "little people" who are fighting these mask mandates. May they find a champion who will stand with them, even in the Supreme Court. We pray for the health of many who are negatively affected by the masks and we pray for those in fear that they might find strength in trusting God.

9. Boston Flew Communist Chinese Flag, But Refused Christian Flag—Case Now Before Supreme Court - Epoch Times
Allowing national flags and flags about historic events, causes, and organizations while refusing to raise a Christian flag outside a city hall is an unconstitutional example of government censorship, a seemingly sympathetic Supreme Court was told on Jan. 18.
The hearing came as the high court has been becoming increasingly protective of religious freedoms since conservatives gained a 6–3 majority on the bench in October 2020, when Justice Amy Coney Barrett replaced the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
The case, Shurtleff v. Boston, court file 20-1800, comes from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 1st Circuit.
Petitioner Harold Shurtleff runs Camp Constitution, which offers classes and workshops on U.S. history and the Constitution. Camp Constitution, also a petitioner, was formed “to enhance understanding of the country’s Judeo-Christian heritage, the American heritage of courage and ingenuity, the genius of the United States Constitution, and free enterprise,” according to the petition filed with the court. |
- Abba, we pray for full victory for the Camp in this case. We ask that the Supreme Court is very explicit about protecting our Constitutional rights and freedoms. We pray that the justices make a clear and unambiguous ruling that will stand the test of time, so that there is a secure foundation upon which to rest our religious freedoms.
- "And he commanded them [judges] saying, 'Thus you shall act in the fear of the Lord, faithfully and with a loyal heart:'" (2 Chronicles 19:9)

10. Biden 'stands by everything he said' in fiery Georgia speech that compared opponents to segregationists- Fox News
During her daily press briefing Tuesday, Psaki was asked to address the backlash Biden has received since his speech in Georgia, where the president declared that opponents of the Democrats' election law overhaul bill were on the side of reviled figures like segregationist Gov. George Wallace and Confederate President Jefferson Davis.
White House press secretary Jen Psaki said President Biden "stands by everything he said" in his fiery Georgia speech last week that many criticized as divisive.
Pressed for details about the "genesis" of the speech, Psaki responded, "There have been discussions for months on voting rights on the Hill with Democrats, certainly an open door to Republicans to have a discussion among members and among staff about a path forward, something that 16 Republicans who are serving today have supported in the past. And also he consulted a lot with civil rights leaders, we consulted with civil rights leaders, with voting rights activists and others who have been working around the clock to advocate for voting rights." - Holy One, we ask that you expose the truth about who is managing Joe Biden and this evil plan of division in our nation. It is well known that a united people are a strong people. May we, the people of the USA, stand against racist accusations and with one another in our neighborhoods, cities and states, knowing that our unity can be a powerful force for good.

Encourage, Equip, Evangelize–lessons of 20 Years
The Daily Jot, Bill Wilson, Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2022
Twenty years ago today, the Lord prompted me to begin writing The Daily Jot. At the time, I was not sure what form it would take or what even would be written. I knew, however, that I was to use my journalism experience to encourage and equip Christians to evangelize. The name of the Jot came from Jesus’ words in Matthew 5:18, “For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.” The Daily Jot was to be a small daily writing about something the Lord put on my heart that would help equip or encourage someone to evangelize in some way–whether it be through example, by using the Jot to strike up conversations, or by sharing it.
I started sending it to my personal email list of 34 friends. I have learned a lot over the past two decades. Lesson 1: Never despise meager beginnings. I have learned that when you know the Lord asks you to do something, he will honor it–it will not return void–a man’s gift makes room for him, and brings him before great men (Proverbs 18:16). I also have learned that there will be many trials testing your commitment, and many attacks from Christians and unbelievers alike. I have learned that through sickness and strife and adversity, the Lord’s word is truth–He will never leave you nor forsake you and to not fear what man can do to me (Hebrews 13:5,6). Through all of it, we learned the true meaning of Matthew 6:33, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
Another lesson I have learned is that there are many deceivers in the world–many are in Christianity. Paul warned in Ephesians 4:14, “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.” When you actually study the word, you will find that many doctrines were developed out of context or from tradition. There are many things I once believed were true because they were taught to me as truth, but I now see they were in great error and cause deception. Don’t get angry when your concepts or traditions are challenged. Study the Bible in its full context and find out for yourself.
There have been countless times over the past 20 years that the Lord has prompted me to write things that have, at first, upset people tremendously. To be honest, I knew they would, but I have to write what the Lord impresses upon me to write. Usually, the upsetting things become reality. As an award-winning investigative journalist, many times people would mock what I wrote, only to find that it turned out to be true. In Christianity, the arena is very unforgiving. Covering prophetic events is a full contact sport so to speak. To deal with the hostility, mocking, and pretention, the Lord gave me these verses in Ezekiel 3:17-21. Paraphrasing, the Lord says tell them what I tell you to tell them; if you do, their actions are on their hands; if you don’t, the blood is on your hands. And so it goes.
In the times ahead, I suspect there will be many warnings, many doctrines that will be called into question, and many who will just want to lash out rather than check it out. Please understand that I love you; that I have no agenda apart from what I believe the Lord is putting on my heart; and that your prayers and support are cherished because I also have learned that the Lord chooses to work through his people, otherwise this ministry would not exist. I have learned that providing a meal for the hungry is better than just praying for them to be fed—showing faith by the work. Most of all, I have learned that the Lord gifts you with something special. Then He sees how you use it. Be encouraged. Be equipped. Take Action. Thank you for the past 20 years, and I look forward to what the Lord has in store for both of us in the next 20!

Former Virginia Teacher Launches Bible Distribution Ministry, Brings Bibles to School Libraries in 6 Countries
|
|
What began as a prayer walk outside a Virginia school has grown into a global ministry that distributes Bibles to school libraries.
Hannah Sailsbury, a former elementary school teacher, founded the nonprofit organization Bibles in Schools after God put it in her heart to donate Bibles to school libraries.
The idea for the initiative came to Sailsbury in 2018. At the time, she would regularly pray for her co-workers, students and families while walking around the school.
Months later, one of Sailsbury's second-grade students approached her with a Bible from the school library, expressing interest in learning more about it.
"And God really opened my eyes to realize if we have this old Bible in our school, how come we don't have a more engaging Bible that's fun, that has pictures in it?" she asks in a promotional video on her YouTube channel.
That day would lead Sailsbury's to launch Bibles in Schools in 2019, which has provided over 1,500 Bibles to school libraries in 43 states. The organization would also reach six countries across the globe. (Read more)

He is your safeguard through sunshine and shade;
Tenderly watching and keeping His own,
He will not leave you to wander alone.

God will take care of you still to the end;
Oh, what a Father, Redeemer, and Friend!
Jesus will answer whenever you call;
He will take care of you, trust Him for all.

God will take care of you, through all the day,
Shielding your footsteps, directing your way;
He is your shepherd, protector, and guide,
Leading His children where still waters glide.

God will take care of you long as you live,
Granting you blessings no other can give;
He will take care of you when time is past,
