TODAY'S TOP STORY:
Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Day
|
|
|
(Editor's comment: In order to honor the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, we are blessed to bring you the following word from his niece: Dr. Alveda King.)
|
|
Evangelist Alveda King:
'I See God's Glory in the Midst of the Storms'
|
|
Martin Luther King Day and the March for Life
Meanwhile, as we're approaching the 2023 Martin Luther King Jr. holiday and March for Life week, many of us are seeking the heart of God for direction for the Body of Christ during these exciting and pivotal days. Here's a thought: As we march for life, the American dream should not be the impossible dream. (To watch the song "Impossible Dream" sung by Alveda King, go to: https://youtu.be/GCITYvTAa_E.)
With 2022 quickly falling away, 2023 is already ablaze with celebrations and controversy. While awaiting the annual Martin Luther King Jr. holiday and March for Life events, I must admit that the collective sigh of relief from many over the election of the new Speaker of the House is a breath of fresh air.
Only God knows what lies ahead for America. One thing is for sure: we should all add more prayer on our agendas going forth. We must worship God first and foremost, then act accordingly.
The March for Life and the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday are bookmarks on America's new calendar every year. With the passage of Roe v. Wade—sending issues of life back to the states for further deliberation—the sanctity of life issues are more important than ever. (Breaking Christian News) Read more here.

- "In my mind, when we unite as one people behind a shared understanding of the American dream, there is no room left in our hearts for prejudice. Again, at the end of the day, let's embrace the truth: Christ has given us victory over evil. Acts 17:26 is evidence that we are the one-blood human race..." -Alveda King
- Father God, we are blessed by Alveda's statement, and we agree that we are, indeed, all members of the one-blood human race. Amen.
- " . . . and He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation . . ." (Acts 17:26)

TOP STORY 2:
'Born-alive' bill passed by House Republicans would require care for infants born alive after failed abortion
|
|
|
House Republicans passed two anti-abortion bills this week.
|
|
The House of Representatives passed the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act on Wednesday, with votes at 220-210. If approved, the legislation would require health practitioners to care for an infant that is born alive after a failed abortion, according to the law.
In order to become law, the bill would need to be approved in the Senate and signed by President Joe Biden, which is unlikely. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said Wednesday that the bill, along with a second anti-abortion bill, are "doomed in the Senate" and "extreme."
"American women deserve to have their right to healthcare protected, not undermined," Schumer said in a statement.
The second abortion bill passed in the House would condemn violence against facilities, groups and churches opposed to abortions. (ABC News) Read more.

- Lord God, we see that this article states that "In order to become law, the bill would need to be approved in the Senate and signed by President Joe Biden, which is unlikely."
Father God, that which is unlikely to man is possible for You. We ask that both of these bills WOULD be passed in the Senate and signed by Joe Biden. We ask for a miracle, in Your Holy Name, amen and amen.
- "Nothing is too difficult for thee!" (Jeremiah 32:17)

TOP STORY 3:
US on alert as Iran navy chief vows to send warships to Panama canal
|
|
|
Iranian Admiral Shahram Irani has announced a plan to send warships to the Panama Canal in a brazen challenge to US hegemony in Latin America.
|
|
Iranian Rear Admiral Shahram Irani has boasted of plans to infiltrate the Panama Straits to put pressure on the United States following long-running attempts by Tehran to ally with anti-US regimes in Latin American. Iran's bid to sail navy ships through the Panama Canal could mark the first time the country's warships entered the Pacific Ocean.
The Panama Canal is a crucial shipping route for international trade and any disruption to its operations would have severe economic consequences. The US government has been closely monitoring the situation and taking necessary measures to ensure the security of the canal.
According to Dr. Majid Rafizadeh, a Harvard-educated Iranian-American political scientist, Iran's military presence in Latin America poses a security threat not only to the United States but to the world.
He wrote: "Iran’s plan to expand its influence and military presence in Latin America dates back to the mid-1980s after the regime was established. Evidence presented at court hearings linked Tehran to the bombings in Buenos Aires of the Israeli Embassy in 1992, and a Jewish community center in 1994. (Express UK) Read more here.

- We pray this threat will be thwarted and not come to pass! Protect us from Iran's plans.

5. Israel Has 3 Plans to ‘Neutralize’ Iran’s Nuclear Program – Army Chief - Algemeiner
i24 News – He also warned against political meddling in the military
Israel’s outgoing army chief said in a series of farewell interviews on Friday that Israel has devised three operational plans to attack Iran to “neutralize” its nuclear program.
Days before being replaced by his successor Herzi Halevi, Israel’s military (IDF) Chief of Staff said that Iran has an “active weapons team,” which “has been working at a very slow pace, and this is in violation of the nuclear deal.” According to Kochavi, Iran currently has enough fissile material for production of four bombs using highly enriched uranium.
This prompted Israel to come up with different plans to prevent Tehran from obtaining nuclear weapons. (Read more)

1. Born-Alive Act: Pelosi, Schumer melt down after new bill requires care for babies born during failed abortion - Fox News
Senior Democratic lawmakers took to Twitter shortly after the House passed the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires doctors to provide care for infants born alive after a failed abortion, to criticize the Republicans who supported the "extreme" bill.
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-NY, and Vice President Kamala Harris were among those who responded.
"Today, instead of joining Democrats to condemn all political violence, [House Republicans] chose to push their extreme anti-choice agenda," Pelosi tweeted Wednesday.
"House Republicans passed an extreme bill today that will further jeopardize the right to reproductive health care in our country," [Vice President Kamala] Harris tweeted. "This is yet another attempt by Republican legislators to control women's bodies." (Fox News)

3. Omar to be booted from House Foreign Affairs Committee, pro-Israel groups applaud - World Israel News
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) on Tuesday repeated his promise to block vocal critic of Israel Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) from the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
In an interview with Punchbowl News, McCarthy said that he would also prevent Reps. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) from assuming their assignments in the House Intelligence Committee.
McCarthy has previously argued that Omar should be stripped of her committee seat for her history of antisemitic comments.
“Look at Congresswoman Omar, Her antisemitic comments that have gone forward. We’re not going to allow her to be on Foreign Affairs,” McCarthy previously vowed during an appearance on Fox News Channel’s “Sunday Morning Futures.”
Omar’s antisemitic and anti-Israel comments include when she accused the Jewish state of having “hypnotized the world,” accused Jews of buying control of Congress, called Israel an “apartheid state” and likened Israel to the Taliban and Hamas terrorist groups. (Read more)

4. Supreme Court takes up religious freedom case involving postal worker who refused to work on Sunday - Fox News
The U.S. Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear a religious liberty case that seeks to make it easier for workers to bring employment discrimination claims when their religious beliefs are not accommodated.
The court will review Groff v. DeJoy, which concerns Gerald Groff, a Christian mailman who says he was wrongfully discriminated against by the U.S. Postal Service after he refused to deliver Amazon packages on Sundays, which he considers to be the Sabbath — a day of worship and rest where work is prohibited.
Groff was employed as an auxiliary mailman in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, from 2012 to 2019. In 2013, USPS contracted with Amazon to deliver packages and workers were required to take Sunday shifts for weekend deliveries.
"No American should be forced to choose between their religion and their job," said First Liberty senior counsel Stephanie Taub in an August 2022 statement after filing a petition for the Supreme Court to hear Groff's case. "We are asking the Court to overturn a poorly-reasoned case from the 1970s that tips the balance in favor of corporations and the government over the religious rights of employees."
"Observing the Sabbath day is critical to many faiths—a day ordained by God. No one should be forced to violate the Sabbath to hold a job," added Randall Wenger of the Independence Law Center. (Read more)

9. Worse than 2020? China’s COVID decisions may ensure another wave - Center for Security Policy
China’s dramatic change in its COVID policies could have deleterious consequences for the world’s population: We may face the prospect of a new wave of the virus that will have an enormous impact on public health, three years after the start of the pandemic. The Chinese government seems to have “the Midas touch” in reverse when it comes to COVID-19 — everything it touches turns into a disaster.
To this day, China has not revealed the origin of the pandemic, after denying epidemiologists critical information that might have weakened the outbreak in late 2019 and early 2020. China still censors information regarding COVID’s origin in Wuhan and has not acknowledged misinforming the World Health Organization (WHO) about the respiratory transmission of the virus — falsehoods that were spread by the WHO.
. . . Now, once again, the Chinese government is about to fail the Chinese people and put the global population at risk. The U.S. must take the lead to hinder the spread of the virus. The Biden administration should call upon the CCP to take responsibility to prevent another COVID wave, including by providing accurate information about the origin of the virus and data from current conditions in China. There is little likelihood that the CCP would adhere to any such demand but placing it on notice means other governments could take legal action against Chinese firms and global investments to compensate for the millions killed and injured as a result of the CCP’s negligence.
The Biden administration also should ensure that the WHO works as intended, and not as an unwitting agent of the CCP. The WHO leadership must be employed urgently into the fight to dissipate the next wave, but it must not repeat its mistakes. Travel to and from China should be hindered to prevent the acceleration of the spread. Japan has taken action to require visitors to and from China to take COVID tests — a decision that should be replicated on a global scale. Quarantine protocols also should be reintroduced. (Read more)

- We pray that the Chinese will stop using COVID as a weapon of mass destruction at the global level. May the nations unite to block this wicked plan from coming to pass! Give us protection from harm.

10. Nearly 250,000 kindergartners in U.S. are vulnerable to measles due to slide in vaccination rates, CDC says - CNBC
Nearly a quarter of a million kindergartners are vulnerable to measles due to a dip in vaccination coverage during the pandemic, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The CDC, in a report published Thursday, found that 93% of kindergartners were up to date with state-required vaccines during the 2021-22 school year, a decline of 2% from 2019-20.
“While this might not sound significant, it means nearly 250,000 kindergartners are potentially not protected against measles,” Dr. Georgina Peacock, head of the CDC’s immunization services division, said during a call with reporters Thursday.
“And we know that measles, mumps and rubella vaccination coverage for kindergartners is the lowest it has been in over a decade,” Peacock said.
The CDC recommends that children by age 6 have the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine as well as the vaccines for diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis; chickenpox, and polio. States generally require those vaccines for children entering kindergarten. The vaccination rate for measles, mumps and rubella was 93.5% during the 2021-22 school year, below the target coverage of 95% to prevent outbreaks. (Read more)

Yellen says US is projected to hit debt ceiling on Jan. 19
|
|
|
Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said the U.S. is projected to reach its roughly $31.4 trillion borrowing limit in less than a week.
Yellen shared the estimate in a letter to Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) on Friday. She also warned the department would soon have to begin taking “extraordinary measures” to stave off a default to buy time for Congress to find a bipartisan solution.
Those measures include temporarily redeeming existing and suspending new investments of the Civil Service, Retirement and Disability Fund and the Postal Service Retiree Health Benefits Fund, as well as suspending reinvestment of the Government Securities Investment Fund of the Federal Employees Retirement System Thrift Savings Plan.
Yellen added that the funds would be “made whole” after the debt limit impasse has ended.
While the secretary said it’s unlikely cash and extraordinary measures will run out before early June, she stressed the measures will only last for “a limited amount of time” and pressed for Congress to “act in a timely manner” to raise or suspend the ceiling.
The letter to McCarthy comes as a high-stakes fight over raising the debt ceiling looms over the further Congress after Republicans took back control of the lower chamber last week.
McCarthy has pressed for any action to address the debt ceiling to be tied to spending cuts sought by Republicans. However, proposals for significant cuts are likely to find trouble in the Senate, where Democrats still hold control.
“If you’re going to ask for an increase in the limit, at some point in time, you’ve got to sit down and say why are we hitting the limit? Why are we maxing out the credit card?” House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) told reporters earlier this week. (The Hill) Read more
- Lord, You know the consequences of this situation,b ut You also know that the debt cannot continue to grow. We ask for wisdom and a real solution to this problem in Jesus' Name. Help us to pray effectively over this problem.

Doctor Calls for Withdrawal of Pfizer, Moderna COVID-19 Vaccines Following New Research
|
|
|
An American doctor is joining the calls for the withdrawal of the messenger RNA COVID-19 vaccines, pointing to new research that highlights a connection between the shots and adverse events.
Dr. Joseph Fraiman, a doctor based in Louisiana who also conducts research on COVID-19 and other health issues, says it’s time to halt the administration of the Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines until new clinical trials prove the benefits from the vaccines outweigh the harms.
The new research, including a reanalysis of the trials for the vaccines, raise concerns about whether the benefits from the vaccines outweigh the harms, according to the doctor.
“I don’t see how anyone couldn’t be certain that the benefits are outweighing the harms on a population level, or even in the high-risk groups. I don’t see the evidence to support that claim,” Fraiman told The Epoch Times. “But I also can’t say that there’s evidence to support that it’s potentially more harmful, but there’s also uncertainty here. … Given that scenario, I believe that people should not be given the [vaccines] outside of a clinical trial, because we need to figure out … if their benefits outweigh harm or if harm outweighs benefits.”
“The only thing that can answer that question is going to be a randomized trial,” he added. (Epoch Times) Read more here.

NY Supreme Court Strikes Down COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate for Health Care Workers
|
|
|
A state Supreme Court judge in Syracuse struck down a statewide mandate for medical staff to be vaccinated against COVID-19, ruling that New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and the state’s health department overstepped their authority.
In a landmark ruling issued on Jan. 13, New York State Supreme Court Judge Gerard Neri declared the statewide COVID-19 vaccine mandate for medical staff “null, void, and of no effect.”
Hochul and the New York State Department of Health exceeded their authority by sidestepping the state legislature in imposing a permanent COVID-19 vaccine mandate for medical professionals, the judge wrote in the order (pdf).
Judge Neri also found that the mandate was “arbitrary and capricious,” citing evidence that COVID-19 vaccines do not prevent the spread of the virus, undercutting the basis for the mandate.
“In true Orwellian fashion, the Respondents acknowledge then-current COVID-19 shots do not prevent transmission,” Neri wrote, citing a Summary of Assessment of Public Comment that was entered as evidence in the case. (Epoch Times) Read more here.

Extreme 'Rogue Wave' in The North Pacific
Confirmed as Most Extreme on Record
In November of 2020, a freak wave came out of the blue, lifting a lonesome buoy off the coast of British Columbia 17.6 meters high (58 feet).
The four-story wall of water was finally confirmed in February 2022 as the most extreme rogue wave ever recorded.
Such an exceptional event is thought to occur only once every 1,300 years. And unless the buoy had been taken for a ride, we might never have known it even happened.
For centuries, rogue waves were considered nothing but nautical folklore. It wasn't until 1995 that myth became fact. On the first day of the new year, a nearly 26-meter-high wave (85 feet) suddenly struck an oil-drilling platform roughly 160 kilometers (100 miles) off the coast of Norway.
At the time, the so-called Draupner wave defied all previous models scientists had put together.
Since then, dozens more rogue waves have been recorded (some even in lakes), and while the one that surfaced near Ucluelet, Vancouver Island was not the tallest, its relative size compared to the waves around it was unprecedented.
Scientists define a rogue wave as any wave more than twice the height of the waves surrounding it. The Draupner wave, for instance, was 25.6 meters tall, while its neighbors were only 12 meters tall. Read More

Biden Admin Explores Idea of Banning Gas Stoves, and the Twitterverse Erupts
|
|
A possible ban on new gas stoves by a federal agency has faced quite a backlash this week. Multiple reports indicated the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is considering banning gas stoves because of concerns over how they could affect children's health. But now the CPSC says it's not. The administration does say studies show that chemicals get into homes through stoves, and medical research reportedly indicates almost 13 percent of children's asthma cases might be tied to gas stoves. "These are oxides of nitrogen or NOx that get released into our homes when we use gas to cook," said Dr. Aaron Bernstein with the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. "And those and NOx are well known to contribute to asthma. Nitrogen dioxide is a concern because we know that it does have adverse effects," explained Ashita Kapoor, associate director of Product Safety at Consumer Reports, citing similar concerns."
Experts say for those concerned about health issues, there are steps they can take right now, like simply providing a little bit of ventilation. "The first best actionable thing we can do and that is, to make sure that we use hoods," Dr. Bernstein said. "We use ventilation. If we don't have those installed, we can at least try and open a window." The American Gas Association also entered the fray, pushing back against the administration in a statement, saying: "A December 2022 report in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health linking natural gas cooking with asthma is not substantiated by sound science."
Calling the discussion to remove a consumer energy choice "reckless," the association told the administration they "should rely on real data and science, not unsubstantiated claims. Attempts to generate consumer fears with baseless allegations to justify the banning of natural gas is a misguided agenda that will not improve the environment or the health of consumers and would saddle vulnerable populations with significant costs," the AGA said. Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton also took issue with the proposed ban, tweeting that he believes it's all part of the left's agenda to eliminate fossil fuels. "There's little evidence that gas stoves are unsafe, but the goal is to make all buildings run on electricity for everything," he said. (CBN) Read more.

Abba, we praise You for the uproar that occurred regarding the ridiculous plan to eliminate gas stoves from every American household! Thank you for those speaking-out with wise discernment and sound-thinking. We declare all ploys of the enemy to make America weak and dependent upon only one source of energy is now null and void!! Keep us alert and protect us from any plans of control because of potential weakened infrastructures. In the powerful name of Jesus, Amen.

Words and Music: Charles Tindley
Scripture: Cast your cares upon the Lord and He will sustain you. Psalm 55:22
Lyrics:

Of its silver and its gold,
And you have to get along with meager fare,
Just remember, in His Word,
How He feeds the little bird;
Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.
Refrain
Leave it there, leave it there,
Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.
If you trust and never doubt,

Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.

And your health you can’t regain,
And your soul is almost sinking in despair,

Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.
Refrain

And your heart begins to fail,

He will make a way for you
And will lead you safely through.
Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.
Refrain
When your youthful days are gone
And old age is stealing on,
And your body bends beneath the weight of care;
He will never leave you then,
He’ll go with you to the end.
Take your burden t
