Matt Staver: "This vote (HR8404) has paved the way... to fix the mess."

Liberty Counsel Founder and Chairman Mat Staver said, “Today’s vote on the so-called Respect for Marriage Act has paved the way for the Supreme Court to overturn the 2015 (5-4) opinion in Obergefell v. Hodge and thus return marriage back to the states. These lawmakers have unwittingly created the perfect scenario to fix the mess the Court originally created.”
Although the House passed the “Respect for Marriage Act” with a 258-169 vote that included 39 House Republicans, this action is a strategic blunder by advocates of same-sex marriage. Three of the five Justices in the slim Obergefell majority are no longer on the Court – Kennedy, Breyer, and Ginsburg. Chief Justice John Roberts issued a stinging dissent. Justice Thomas and Alito also dissented. Justices Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, Barrett, and Jackson have since joined the High Court.
Until the passage of the Respect for Marriage Act, the biggest hurdle to overturning Obergefell was not on the law but on policy. Obergefell, like Roe v. Wade, has no support in the Constitution. Like Roe, Obergefell was “egregiously wrong from the start.” As Chief Justice Roberts wrote, “The majority’s decision is an act of will, not legal judgment. The right it announces has no basis in the Constitution or this Court’s precedent.”
Until now, the biggest obstacle to overturning Obergefell was based on those who relied on the flawed decision to obtain a marriage license. What happens to these licenses? The consequence of overturning Obergefell is now off the table and is no longer a policy reason for upholding the opinion, despite that fact it was wrongly decided. Until the decision is overturned, those who obtained licenses will be “grandfathered” in and the licenses will remain valid. However, like abortion, the Supreme Court will return the matter of marriage to the states to decide a state-by-state law going forward. States will then be free to return to their laws prior to 2015 …that marriage is the union of one man and one woman.
The case involving Kim Davis may be a vehicle to overturn Obergefell. This case is working its way back to the Supreme Court, where one of the arguments will be that Obergefell was wrongly decided. Justices Thomas and Alito have already invited future challenges to the 2015 Obergefell marriage case, since the decision was never constitutional. Justice Clarence Thomas (joined by Justice Samuel Alito) wrote that the Supreme Court’s majority decision in Obergefell v. Hodges caused a collision with religious liberty, and the Court must fix it. Elon Musk Exposes Real Reason Twitter Censored Former President Donald Trump

Journalist Matt Taibbi published the third volume of the so-called “Twitter files” on Friday, exposing the social media platform’s censorship and deplatforming of former President Donald Trump.
The latest disclosure revealed that Twitter executives used the platform’s formidable “visibility filtering” powers against Trump ahead of the 2020 U.S. elections and that engagement with the FBI intensified before Trump was permanently suspended.
Endorsed by Twitter’s new owner Elon Musk, the “Twitter files” have exposed the social media company’s censorship machine.
The new report, titled “The Removal of Donald Trump,” is the first of three specifically examining the actions of Twitter executives during the period from October 2020 to when Trump was deplatformed on Jan. 8, 2021. (Epoch Times) Read more here.

Sam Brinton, nonbinary Biden official, stole jewelry worth $1,700 in second luggage theft: police
|
|
The nonbinary Biden administration official facing up to five years in prison for allegedly stealing luggage in Minnesota now faces up to 10 years in prison for stealing another bag in Nevada, according to a police report obtained by Fox News Digital.
Samuel Brinton — who has served as the Energy Department's (DOE) deputy assistant secretary for spent fuel and waste disposition since June — allegedly stole a suitcase with a total estimate worth of $3,670 on July 6 at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas, according to a declaration filed by a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) detective on Wednesday. The bag contained jewelry valued at $1,700, clothing worth $850 and makeup valued at $500.
The detective wrote in the report that a woman traveling from Washington, D.C., to Las Vegas on July 6 reported one of her checked bags missing shortly after the incident. Police then reviewed security camera footage and observed "a white male adult wearing a white T-shirt with a large rainbow colored atomic nuclear symbol design" removing baggage that matched the victim's description of her missing bag before quickly exiting the airport.
Police closed the investigation, though, after they were unable to identify the person who took the suitcase.
However, on Nov. 29, after media reports highlighting Brinton's alleged theft in a Minnesota airport surfaced, investigators reopened the case since the suspect matched Brinton's description. Upon viewing the news articles, the officer who had closed the case months earlier "immediately recognized" Brinton "as the suspect pertaining to this case."
Police were then able to confirm that Brinton traveled on the same flight to Las Vegas as the victim on July 6 and found an Instagram post in which Brinton posted a selfie wearing the same rainbow-colored atomic symbol shirt.
"Brinton demonstrated several signs of abnormal behavior while taking the victim's luggage which are cues suspects typically give off when committing luggage theft," the LVMPD detective wrote in the report. "Specifically, Brinton pulled the victim's luggage from the carousel and examined the tag."
"Then placing it back on the carousel, looking in all directions for anyone who might be watching, or might approach," it continued. "Pulling it back off the carousel and demonstrating the same behavior by looking around before walking away with it quickly. Brinton only having checked one piece of luggage, which Brinton had already claimed from the carousel, had no reason to be examining and taking any other pieces of luggage." 1. UN says Israel must give up nuclear weapons in lopsided vote - Jerusalem Post
The United Nations General Assemblyaffirmed that Israel must give up its nuclear weapons in a 149-6 vote taken on Wednesday.
An earlier version of the text was approved in the UNGA's Fifth Committee in October with a 152-5 vote.
Ukraine had voted against Israel in the Fifth Committee, but this time around was absent from the proceedings after it had been criticized for standing against Israel. (Read more)

2. Herzog grants Netanyahu 10 more days to form coalition, adds a warning - Times of Israel
President Isaac Herzog on Friday granted Likud leader and Prime Minister-designate Benjamin Netanyahu 10 additional days to finish forming a government, while indicating concern that the coalition Netanyahu is assembling — set to be the most right-wing in Israeli history — could potentially damage Israel’s democratic checks and balances, breach the spirit of the Declaration of Independence and alienate Jews overseas.
The presumed incoming prime minister formally asked Herzog for the maximal extension of two weeks on Thursday, saying that the complexity of cobbling together his coalition required extra time, but Herzog gave him only 10 days.
Netanyahu’s 28-day mandate to assemble a government was set to expire at midnight on Sunday night, and he will now have until December 21 to form a government. Herzog did not specify why he chose not to grant Netanyahu the maximum 14-day extension. (Read more)

3. Coalition to split Attorney General post in two - Israel National News
Designated Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's new coalition intends on splitting the job of the Attorney General into two separate positions: Attorney General and Prosecutor General, according to a report by Channel 12 News.
This split was already planned by outgoing Justice Minister Gideon Sa'ar, who received authorization from Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara to do so.
The Justice Ministry says that Baharav-Miara does not intend on resigning, not due to the government's intent to split her position and not due to her opposition to new lawmaking initiatives. (Read more)

4. MK Danon to INN: 'Splitting up ministries - a necessity that can be lived with' - Israel National News
Former minister and ambassador, MK Danny Danon has not given up on receiving the position of Knesset Speaker in the next term. He reads the headlines which promote the candidacies of Yariv Levin and Dudi Amsalem for the job, but he still believes that his Likud party will give it to him.
When asked if, at this point, he knows what is in store for his personal future, he answers: "The country's future is more important than my own. We are happy that we will soon form a national and Zionist government and switch out this dangerous government. We are beginning to see the buds of the change of government."
Regarding this statement, we asked if there are really buds of the change of government or just issues that are becoming more exhausting and complex the closer the distribution of jobs gets closer to Likud members. "As far as the schedule we will meet," Danon says and points out that tomorrow a new Speaker will be chosen for the Knesset on behalf of the new coalition, and "By Chanukah, there will be new ministers in the Israeli government and Prime Minister Netanyahu will take office." Israel warned Lebanon on Saturday that it will bomb Beirut Airport if the government allows Iran to use the facility to deliver weapons to its proxy, Hezbollah.
The warning follows a broadcast by the Al-Arabiya news channel about an Iranian plan to use the airport as its new arms smuggling corridor.
Israeli political sources in Tel Aviv told the London-based Asharq Al-Awsat news outlet that Israel is investigating an attempt by Iran to smuggle weapons to Hezbollah via civilian flights landing at Beirut Airport. (Read more)

1. U.S. accuses Russia of providing weapons, fighter jets to Iran - CBS
The Biden administration is accusing Russia of moving to provide advanced military assistance to Iran, including air defense systems, helicopters and fighter jets, part of deepening cooperation between the two nations as Tehran provides drones to support Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine.
White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby on Friday cited U.S. intelligence assessments for the allegations, saying Russia was offering Iran "an unprecedented level of military and technical support that is transforming their relationship into a full-fledged defense partnership."
Kirby said Russia and Iran were considering standing up a drone assembly line in Russia for the Ukraine conflict, while Russia was training Iranian pilots on the Sukhoi Su-35 fighter and Iran could receive deliveries of the plane within the year.
"These fighter planes will significantly strengthen Iran's air force relative to its regional neighbors," Kirby said. (Read more)

2. DOJ officials call Biden's Griner, ’Merchant of Death’ swap ‘mistake,’ ‘madness’ - Fox News
A Friday report in the Washington Post noted U.S. Department of Justice officials viewed President Joe Biden’s prisoner swap of WNBA player Brittney Griner for dangerous Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout as a "mistake." According to the outlet, people from America’s top law enforcement agencies have expressed concern that the "discrepancy of offenses by the two prisoners" meant that the deal was not a good one. The Post detailed this gap in offenses, stating that Griner was detained for "possessing a small amount of cannabis oil. Bout, whose arms fueled conflicts from Sudan to Rwanda to Afghanistan to Angola, is nicknamed the ‘Merchant of Death,’ and his illicit transactions with violent regimes and militant groups earned him a 25-year sentence in federal prison."
Many in the media blasted the trade Friday, arguing that Biden should have received more hostages from Russia in return for such a dangerous prisoner. Some argued that Marine veteran Paul Whelan, who is still serving a sentence in Russia on espionage charges, should have been included in the deal.
As the Washington Post claimed Friday, top government officials feel the same way. The piece stated, "But the president also faced opposition from his own Justice Department, which viewed Thursday’s one-for-one prisoner swap involving Griner and the notorious arms dealer Viktor Bout as a mistake given the discrepancy of offenses by the two prisoners." It added, "Within the Justice Department, many officials resisted the idea of trading Bout before his scheduled release in 2029, according to current and former officials." (Read more)

3. Border officials seeing massive migrant numbers, large groups ahead of Title 42’s end - Fox News
Officials at the southern border are seeing massive migrant numbers at the southern border, along with a number of large groups, ahead of the expected end of the ability to expel migrants under the Title 42 public health order in a few weeks. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) sources tell Fox News that migrant numbers for FY 2023, which began in October, are at over 465,000 and are expected to hit the half a million mark this weekend. So far, 156,000 have been expelled under Title 42. That order, implemented during the Trump administration in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, has allowed the rapid expulsion of migrants at the border, However, it is due to expire on Dec. 21 after a court order ruled that its implementation was unlawful, leading to widespread and bipartisan fears of a surge on top of a surge.
The nearly half-million encountered since October means the numbers are outpacing FY 2022, when there were over 517,000 encounters by the end of December, and FY 21 where there were just over 216,000 in the same period. In FY 2020, there were only 458,058 encounters for the entire fiscal year.
These numbers, coming in typically quieter months at the border, are leaving Border Patrol agents overwhelmed as agents get hit with enormous migrant groups. In the last 24 hours, there were more than 2,100 illegal crossings in Del Rio Sector. In Eagle Pass, Texas, Fox News witnessed as a massive group of 650 migrants crossing illegally into Eagle Pass. At the same time, another 350 crossed into the other side of town — meaning 1,000 people crossed in an hour. (Read more)

4. Judge Declines DOJ Request To Find Trump Team in Contempt - Newsmax
A federal judge turned away a Department of Justice request to hold the office of former President Donald Trump in contempt for not complying with a grand jury subpoena regarding the return of classified documents to the National Archives, NBC News reported.
According to the report, U.S. District Judge Beryl A. Howell for the District of Columbia made the ruling denying the DOJ's request following a closed hearing in Washington Friday.
News outlets and the public were not allowed in the proceeding, which took about 90 minutes, according to reporters who witnessed the attorneys in the case entering and exiting the courtroom.
The Washington Post reported that federal prosecutors requested the contempt charge for Trump's office after two documents marked as "classified" were recently discovered in a storage unit not far from Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida.
Because the contempt hearing Friday contained information from grand jury proceedings, the hearing and Howell's subsequent ruling remain sealed. (Read more)

5. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee called out for office's American flag in garbage - Washington Examiner
Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL), a military veteran, called out his Democratic colleague Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) on Thursday after he found her office's American flag in a garbage can.
"Today’s rescue mission: saving Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee’s American flag from the garbage can. @JacksonLeeTX18, anytime you’d like a lesson on flag etiquette, let me know. It’s one of the first things we’re taught in basic training," he tweeted with a photo of the flag in a trash can and a video of himself.
"So this is a WTF moment here in the House of Representatives. People moving offices, and this is apparently where Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee keeps her American flag, her POW flag: in the garbage can, in the trash," Mast says in the video. "That's her idea of appropriate for moving the American flag. WTF. What the hell is wrong with these people?"
Jackson Lee's office did not respond to the Washington Examiner's request for comment.
Notably, Mast lost both of his legs while he was in the military for more than 12 years. The representative was a bomb disposal expert under the elite Joint Special Operations Command. He suffered the injury while working on his last improvised explosive. For his service, he earned the Bronze Star, the Army Commendation Medal for Valor, the Purple Heart, and the Defense Meritorious Service Medal. (Read more)

6. Hunter Biden’s legal team in disarray ahead of GOP investigations: ‘Not fully coordinating’ - Fox News
A Saturday Washington Post report offered some details on the legal defense team taking shape to oppose congressional Republican investigations into Hunter Biden that are expected to start once the GOP majority takes over the House in January.
The article noted that the Biden defense team is "almost frantically" assembling, "not fully coordinating" and running the risk that it will "not share a unified approach" when the investigations begin.
The piece, composed by reporters Matt Viser and Michael Scherer, began by detailing "a strategy session last September" where Hunter Biden’s lawyer Kevin Morris pushed "Hunter Biden’s camp to be more aggressive" against conservatives preparing to investigate Biden over allegations of corruption.
It noted how Morris "described defamation lawsuits the team could pursue against the presidential son’s critics."
The Washington Post mentioned how this meeting and early strategy "was a glimpse into a sprawling infrastructure that is rapidly, almost frantically, assembling to combat Republicans’ plans to turn Hunter Biden into a major news story when the GOP takes over the House next year."
However, the article mentioned fears from people involved in Biden’s team that this frantic assembly will set up a shaky defense for Biden. It stated, "The risk for Hunter Biden, and possibly for President Biden as well, is that this hodgepodge of efforts is not fully coordinating and does not share a unified approach." (Read more)

7. George Soros Preps For 2024 Election With Massive Donations To Dem Super PAC - Daily Caller
Billionaire and Democratic mega-donor George Soros poured $50 million into a Democratic super PAC this fall in preparation for the 2024 election cycle, according to Politico.
The massive cash influx went to the Democracy PAC, according to Politico. Soros spent another $50 million throughout the 2022 campaign cycle, with cash going to Democratic groups including the Senate Majority PAC, House Majority PAC and candidates including former Democratic Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams.
Soros is already the leading Democratic donor in the 2022 election cycle and made another eight-figure cash infusion to the Democracy PAC, one of his primary spending vehicles, in the past month, according to Politico.
Soros also gave $125 million to the Democracy PAC in Jan. 2021; the PAC, started in 2019, aims at “strengthening the infrastructure of American democracy: voting rights and civic participation, civil rights and liberties, and the rule of law,” a spokesman told Politico. 8. Florida teachers flee county with 'egregious' student behavior, like spitting, biting, drug use, theft - Fox News
Brevard County in Florida is the scene of an increasingly tense rise in student misbehavior that some say is forcing educators out of their chosen profession.
Parents, educators and school administrators spoke candidly of the problem, at a Thursday school board meeting in the county. "I've watched dozens of my peers and friends leave their classrooms, schools or their profession entirely," said Matthew Yount, a 5th-grade teacher at Imperial Estates Elementary School in Titusville.
Yount added, "An almost universal reason is the deterioration on student behavior over the past few years. The teacher cited "egregious behaviors" he has witnessed in Florida schools, including spitting, biting, drug use and theft.
Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey hosted a live press conference Nov. 28, announcing his decision to pursue a no-nonsense crackdown on student behavioral problems in the county's public schools. Claiming to have received extensive reports of dangerous and sometimes violent student misbehavior from teachers, school staff and administrators, Ivey announced his intentions to reform the county's discipline guidelines. 9. Illinois Displays Satanic Temple Alongside Nativity Scene In Their State Capitol Building - Daily Caller
A display at the Illinois State Capitol shows the “Serpent of Genesis” from the Satanic Temple alongside a Christian nativity.
The state capitol has hosted a variety of religious displays including a Jewish menorah and Christian nativity for the last fourteen years. For the past four years, the Satanic Temple has been on display as well, according to the Illinois Radio Network.
Minister Adam of the Illinois Satanic Temple told the Daily Caller News Foundation that the display is based on a book by Nicolaus Copernicus’ “De Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium. “Our display revolves around one of the most controversial books of its time…which argued in favor of a heliocentric model of the universe or, in other words, that the earth revolves around the sun and not the other way around,” Adam said. “The display consists of a leather-bound copy of the text at the center, orbited by knitted apples and a 12-foot serpent handcrafted by our congregation members, which represent the pursuit of forbidden knowledge.” (Read more)

|
A federal appeals court has permanently blocked the Biden administration’s bid to force doctors and insurers to perform or pay for gender-transition procedures even if they object on grounds of conscience and medical judgment, with the court basing its decision on constitutional protections of religious freedom.
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit issued a unanimous ruling (pdf) on Dec. 9 blocking the controversial U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) transgender mandate.
Issued in 2016, the mandate interpreted the Affordable Care Act in a way that required doctors to perform gender-transition procedures on any patient, including children, even if the doctor was convinced the procedure could harm the patient.
The mandate also required the vast majority of private insurance companies and many employers to cover the costs of gender-transition therapy or face penalties.
The HHS’s own panel of medical experts acknowledged that gender-transition procedures can be harmful and in many cases not medically justified, with HHS determining that Medicare and Medicaid should not be forced to cover such procedures.

The House of Representatives just passed the mammoth $858 billion National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), an annual must-pass bill setting out defense spending levels.

Military Vaccine Mandate Repealed
In a major win for Republicans and critics of President Joe Biden’s COVID-19 policies, this year’s iteration of the NDAA will include a repeal of a vaccine mandate for military service members.
Biden announced in August 2021 that all federal employees, including military service members, would be required to take the COVID-19 vaccine or lose their job, despite a dearth of long-term testing on the vaccine. . .
No Reinstatement of Troops
Though the bill will undo Biden’s mandate, hopes that the bill would reinstate those who were kicked out of the military for refusal to take the vaccine did not come to fruition.
According to Defense Department data, 3,717 Marines, 1,816 soldiers, and 2,064 sailors have been discharged for refusing to get vaccinated against COVID-19, although a small portion has been allowed to remain in service owing to religious or medical waivers.
As of Dec. 1, over 11,500 members of the Army, Army National Guard, and Army Reserve have declined to get vaccinated against COVID-19, Axios reported, while 97 percent of the Army’s active personnel received the shot.
In an exclusive interview with The Epoch Times, Air Force Lt. Col Adam Conrad, who asked that his name be changed to protect him from retaliation by the DOD, said that he had “never seen morale so low” as it got after the imposition of the mandate.
Another Million-Dollar Dole to Ukraine
The bill will also grant another $800 million of taxpayer funds to the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative as part of the U.S. effort to help Ukraine defend itself against an ongoing Russian invasion.

Country legend Dolly Parton performed her hit song “Go to Hell” during a Christmas special Thursday night, passionately rebuking the devil during prime-time TV.
The Grammy-winning songstress, who included the tune in her “Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas” special on NBC, has long been outspoken about her faith.
And Parton’s tune is all about telling Satan to “go to hell,” with the lyrics repeating that refrain, among other chastisements.
“Take your wars and your politics, your lust, and your greed, and go to hell in a handbasket, ’cause heaven waits for me,” she sang. “You’re a cheat, you’re a liar, you’re a scoundrel and a thief."
Parton danced and sang along with a choir as a man portraying Satan followed her around the stage. At one point, Parton stops to deliver the performance’s climax: a mini-sermon directed at the devil.
“My brothers and my sisters: I’m here to tell you that Satan is real. He is real and walking around amongst us, trying to destroy everything that’s good and beautiful,” she said. “He wants to break our hearts and minds, destroy our dreams and plans. He wants to tear us up in little pieces, break us down and send us straight to hell.”
And Parton wasn’t done there. She said her God “can do anything,” including healing the sick, mending hearts, and bringing souls to heaven. (Read more)

Oldest known galaxies spotted by James Webb Space Telescope

NASA says galaxies date back to fewer than 400 million years after the Big Bang.
A group of international astronomers has used data from the James Webb Space Telescope to report the discovery of the earliest galaxies confirmed to date.
In work, which NASA noted has not yet been peer-reviewed, the scientists found that the light from these galaxies has taken more than 13.4 billion years to reach Earth because the galaxies date back to fewer than 400 million years after the Big Bang.
Previous data from Webb had provided candidates for infant galaxies and the targets have been confirmed by obtaining spectroscopic observations.
Those observations revealed characteristic and distinctive patterns in the light emitted from the faint galaxies. Read More

Court Orders Southwest to Give Job Back to Fired Pro-Life Flight Attendant
|

A federal court has ordered Southwest Airlines and the Transport Workers Union (TWU) to give former flight attendant Charlene Carter her job back after she was allegedly fired over her stance on abortion. As CBN News reported in July, after a five-year legal battle, Carter was awarded $5.3 million in a lawsuit that she filed back in 2017. She was terminated by the airline company for posting her religious opposition to abortion on social media.
On Monday, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas ordered Southwest and the union to give Carter the maximum amount of compensatory and punitive damages permitted under federal law, plus back pay, and other forms of relief that a jury originally awarded her in July. U.S. District Judge Brantley Starr also reduced the jury's original $5.3 million in damages to $810,180, which includes $150,000 in back pay, according to The Dallas Morning News. This is because federal discrimination law limits damages that companies can pay in such cases."Bags fly free with Southwest. But free speech didn't fly at all with Southwest in this case," The National Right to Work Legal Foundation (NRTW) quoted the judge's decision in a press release.
According to the advocacy group, the court rejected the union and airline arguments and also ordered that Carter should be fully reinstated as a flight attendant at Southwest, writing, "Southwest may 'wanna get away' from Carter because she might continue to express her beliefs, but the jury found that Southwest unlawfully terminated Carter for her protected expressions." If only "front pay," or what she would be making in wages until she finds a new job, is awarded, the Court reasoned, "the Court would complete Southwest's unlawful scheme" of firing dissenting employees.
