Kyrsten Sinema leaving Democratic Party to register as independent

Arizona Sen. Kyrsten Sinema is registering as an independent, leaving the Democratic Party just days after it secured its 51st vote in the Senate to clinch an outright majority.

The move is not expected to change the balance of power in the upper chamber next year, Politico reported Friday, and as of now, Democrats will still control Senate committees. Sinema won't caucus with the Republicans and said she will continue to vote the way she always has.

“I’ve registered as an Arizona independent. I know some people might be a little bit surprised by this, but actually, I think it makes a lot of sense,” she told CNN's Jake Tapper on Thursday in an interview from her Senate office.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said Friday he agreed to Sinema's request to keep her committee assignments and that Democrats will have a 51-49 majority in the chamber next year.

Sinema, who has represented Arizona in the Senate since 2019 and served three terms in the House before that, explained her decision to change parties in an op-ed penned in the Arizona Republic Friday morning, casting herself as an independent voice in a highly partisan Congress.

"When politicians are more focused on denying the opposition party a victory than they are on improving Americans’ lives, the people who lose are everyday Americans," she wrote. "That’s why I have joined the growing numbers of Arizonans who reject party politics by declaring my independence from the broken partisan system in Washington." (Washington Examiner) Read more.

- Father God, we honor Senator Kyrsten Sinema for her courageous action, and we pray for her protection in the days ahead. Thank You, Holy
One, for creating this change of power in the United States Senate. Amen.

Putin says one missile will trigger 'hundreds' of warheads

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday once again drew international attention when he warned that if even one missile enters Russian territory, "hundreds" of warheads will respond.

"I assure you, after the early warning system receives a signal of a missile attack, hundreds of our missiles are in the air," Putin said from a summit in Kyrgyzstan, Russian news outlet RIA reported. "It is impossible to stop them."

"There will be nothing left of the enemy, because it is impossible to intercept a hundred missiles. This, of course, is a deterrent — a serious deterrent," he added. (Fox News) Read more here.

- Father God, we fear not Vladimir Putin. We only fear You. As we walk the walk of repentance, we entrust our lives unto You, Holy One . . . in Your name, amen.

UN says Israel must give up nuclear weapons in lopsided vote

UN says Israel must give up nuclear weapons in lopsided vote

The United Nations General Assembly affirmed that Israel must give up its nuclear weapons in a 149-6 vote taken on Wednesday.

An earlier version of the text was approved in the UNGA's Fifth Committee in October with a 152-5 vote.

Ukraine had voted against Israel in the Fifth Committee, but this time around was absent from the proceedings after it had been criticized for standing against Israel.

Those who opposed the resolution were: Canada, Israel, Micronesia, Palau and the United States. Liberia, which had been absent from the vote in October, changed its position and opposed the text.

Another 26 countries, including India and many European states, abstained from the resolution which is part of an annual package of over 15 anti-Israel and pro-Palestinian texts the UNGA approves. (Jerusalem Post) Read more.

- Father God, we thank You that our nation was among the few that opposed this dangerous resolution. We stand in the gap for those who voted against Israel, and we ask You to forgive them, for they know not what they do. Amen.

- "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do." (Luke 23:34)

Our Weekly Call to Repentance

CHPP Welcomes You to Join Us Every Week in One Hour of Repentance

Sunday evening at 10:00 p.m. EDT
Dial 717-908-1983
Access Code: 9301470#

Dear Saints,

A lifestyle of REPENTANCE is so close to the heart of God.

Indeed, He commands us to  "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!" Matthew 3:2

How, then, can we approach His Throne of GRACE, in repentance?

We invite you to join us every week on Sunday evening, as we explore this vital topic together. We present a different prayer focus each week, leading us into repentance, so that we might approach His Throne of Grace in repentance, presenting ourselves to Him as a pure and a spotless Bride, without spot or wrinkle. (Ephesians 5:27)

Praying together, we desire to fulfill the mandate of Psalm 139:

" Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; 24 And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting." Psalm 139:24

You can join us, any Sunday evening, at 10:00 p.m. EST by calling:

717-908-1983
Access Code: 9301470#

WELCOME!

". . . and if My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

"Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to the prayer offered in this place."
(2 Chronicles 7:14,15)
