Christian Flag Flies in Boston
|
|
Following the unanimous Supreme Court ruling in Shurtleff v. City of Boston, Camp Constitution will fly its Christian flag on one of the three flagpoles outside Boston City Hall on Wednesday morning.
It will be the last time any such flag will fly there, as Boston has changed its rules, thanks to the Supreme Court decision.
The implications are immense, and reach further than many expected. The city declined Camp Constitution’s initial request five years ago for fear that it would somehow violate the faux “separation of church and state” mantra adopted by anti-Christian forces.
Simply put, the faux reasoning is based on a letter Thomas Jefferson wrote to a religious group. There was no other basis for thinking that the Founders meant to keep Christianity from having an influence in American culture. There is no phrase “separation of church and state” in the Constitution, nor can it be found elsewhere in America’s founding documents.
The Supreme Court, however, ruled that Boston’s defense was faulty, and that the city violated Camp Constitution’s right to free speech when it denied its request to fly the Christian flag from that flagpole five years ago.
The ruling forced Boston to change its rules. It is also forcing numerous towns, cities, and municipalities to reconsider their own rules, in favor of free speech, and away from concerns over violating the nebulous but dangerous “separation of church and state” thought to be part of the Constitution.

Twenty-six Republicans, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), signed a joint statement on Aug. 2 announcing support for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s trip to Taiwan and reaffirming that the trip did not change the United States policies regarding China and Taiwan.
Sens Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.) and Dan Sullivan (R-Ark.) led the effort to sign the document, following Pelosi’s arrival in Taipei Tuesday.
“We support Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi’s trip to Taiwan,” the statement said.
“For decades, members of the United States Congress, including previous Speakers of the House, have traveled to Taiwan. This travel is consistent with the United States’ One China policy to which we are committed. We are also committed now, more than ever, to all elements of the Taiwan Relations Act.”
The White House maintains that there is nothing out of the ordinary about the Speaker’s trip, and noted repeatedly that Congressional delegations visit Taiwan without incident with some frequency.
“The Speaker has the right to visit Taiwan and the Speaker of the House has visited Taiwan before, without incident,” said White House National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby on Aug. 1. “As have many members of Congress, including this year.”
“Put simply, there is no reason for Beijing to turn a simple visit, consistent with long-standing U.S. policy into some sort of crisis or conflict, or to use it to increase aggressive military activity in or around the Taiwan Strait.” (Read more here.)

|
Today's First Read examines losses by two Michigan House incumbent congressmen — Republican Peter Meijer and Democrat Andy Levin. Here’s a look at the results in some of the other key contests, with the projected winners per NBC’s Decision Desk as of 7:00 am ET:
Arizona Governor: The GOP primary between Trump-backed former news anchor Kari Lake and former Arizona Board of Regents member Karrin Taylor Robson is too close to call. Lake is leading with 46% while Robson has nearly 45%. Whoever wins will face Democratic Secretary of State Katie Hobbs in November.
Arizona Senate: Blake Masters, a top associate to billionaire Peter Thiel who had Trump’s endorsement, to take on Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly. Masters led the crowded field with 39%, with the next closest Republican, energy executive Jim Lamon, garnering 29% of the vote.
Arizona Secretary of State: State Rep. Mark Finchem, an election denier backed by Trump, won the GOP primary for Secretary of State with 41% of the vote. The Democratic primary is too early to call.
Arizona Legislature: State House Speaker Rusty Bowers, who served as a witness in a televised Jan. 6 Committee hearing, lost the GOP primary to Trump-backed state Sen. David Farnsworth. With 57% of the expected vote in, Farnsworth had won 64% of the vote while Bowers had won 36%.
Michigan Governor: Conservative media personality Tudor Dixon won the Republican primary for governor in Michigan with 40% of the vote, beating businessman Kevin Rinke, who won 22% of the vote and chiropractor Garrett Soldano, who won 18% of the vote. Dixon will face Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in the fall.
Missouri Senate: State attorney general Eric Schmitt won the GOP primary in Missouri, with over 45% of the vote, beating Rep. Vicky Hartzler, who won 22%, and disgraced former governor Eric Greitens, who won 19% of the vote. Schmitt will face Democrat Trudy Busch Valentine, an heiress to the Anheuser-Busch beer fortune who has also worked as nurse, in November.
Kansas Attorney General: The controversial Kris Kobach has won the primary for attorney general with 42%.

1. Roads around Gaza closed for second day amid fears of Islamic Jihad reprisals - World Israel News
Roads in the vicinity of the Gaza Strip remained closed on Wednesday for a second day amid fears of reprisal attacks following the arrest of a senior Palestinian Islamic Jihad figure in Jenin on Monday.
Local media said on Tuesday that Egyptian mediators had been dispatched to the Gaza Strip in a bid to reduce tensions between the sides.
The Israeli government reportedly conveyed a message via the intermediaries to Hamas, which rules the enclave, and PIJ that it was not interested in an escalation but would respond forcefully to any attack. (Read more)

2. Israel said refusing Islamic Jihad demands made through Egyptian mediator - Times of Israel
The Palestinian Al-Quds newspaper, citing an unnamed Palestinian source, says Egyptian efforts to de-escalate the tensions between Israel and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad are still ongoing, but Israel has so far denied the terror group’s requests.
The paper says Islamic Jihad has demanded that the family of Bassem Saadi, the terror group’s West Bank leader who was arrested on Monday, be allowed to visit him to check on his condition.
Additionally, Islamic Jihad is demanding Israel end military operations in the West Bank, specifically in the Jenin area where Saadi was detained, Al-Quds says. (Read more)

3. Netanyahu promises: 'We'll lower taxes, significantly lower cost of living' - Israel National News
Former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who leads the Likud party, on Wednesday morning revealed his economic plan for the next government, promising to lower taxes and drastically reduce the cost of living.
The plan was formulated over the past several weeks, together with former Economy Council chief Professor Avi Simhon, former Finance Ministry Director General Shai Babad, and former Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz (Likud).
"Only a stable nationalist government will lower the prices which have been rising uncontrollably over the past year," Netanyahu said. "In our government, the rise in prices was half a percent each year. On the other hand, in the past year alone, costs have risen by nine times - 4.5%. Electricity went up, food went up, gas became more expensive, water became more expensive." (Read more)

4. IDF Intercepts Terror Cell Infiltrating through Security Fence - Jewish Press
An IDF unit successfully intercepted and captured a terror cell on Tuesday night that attempted to cross the security barrier from the Hebron area toward the area of the city of Beer Sheva.
The IDF stated that during an ambush that took place on the “Seam Line” near the Meitar crossing in the south of the Hebron area, the unit identified a suspicious vehicle attempting to cross the security barrier.
The soldiers stopped the vehicle with four suspects inside who were in the possession of ammunition, IDF military uniforms, surveillance devices, and approximately NIS 80,000. (Read more)

5. Israel signs contract to build embassy in Morocco - JNS
(August 2, 2022 / JNS) Israel’s Ambassador to Morocco David Govrin signed a construction contract on Tuesday for building a headquarters for a permanent Israeli embassy in Morocco.
“I am very happy to share with you this photo, which witnesses one of the historical moments I lived with my team, as the construction contract for the headquarters of the permanent Israeli embassy in Morocco was signed,” he wrote on Twitter.
“With this, we will begin, God willing, a new era in which we will consolidate our distinguished relations with Morocco,” added the ambassador.
According to Ynet, the construction will cost $4 million and be built on the same property where Israel had a presence before it was abandoned in 2000, when diplomatic relations were severed. (Read more)

Associate Justice Samuel Alito, the author of the Supreme Court's landmark opinion overturning Roe v. Wade, waved away criticism of the ruling from foreign leaders in recent remarks focused on the importance of religious freedom.
Speaking in Rome last week in remarks made public Thursday, Alito said he considered calling attention to opinions on religion by foreign courts but decided against it – even though, he said, foreign leaders had plenty to say about the high court's abortion ruling.
"I had the honor this term of writing, I think, the only Supreme Court decision in the history of that institution that has been lambasted by a whole string of foreign leaders, who felt perfectly fine commenting on American law," Alito said at the event, which was organized by the Notre Dame Law School’s Religious Liberty Initiative. The $739 billion Democratic spending plan dubbed the Inflation Reduction Act will barely affect prices over the next decade, experts say — and even the White House admitted it Monday. According to Moody’s Analytics chief economist Mark Zandi, the 725-page bill hammered out by Sens. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Joe Manchin (D-WV) would only lower the Consumer Price Index – a closely watched gauge that measures what consumers paid for goods and services –0.33% by 2031.
“White House officials’ own rosiest, best-case-scenario spin is that their ‘Inflation Reduction Act’ will have taken one third of one percentage point off inflation by nine years from now?” Andrew Quinn, a speechwriter for Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), asked incredulously.
“White House comms spiking the ball over a bill that doesn’t reduce inflation until 9 years from now,” mocked Heritage Foundation spokesman Jon Cooper. “And keep in mind, this is obviously the best number they could come up with.” (Read more)

“I think anyone who is serious about getting after the size and scale of the federal government has got to make this a very top tier issue going into the next cycle,” she said of plans circulating in conservative circles of firing potentially thousands of federal employees in a new Republican administration.
“ I just think about the experience in the Department of Education and how formidable the bureaucracy is and how how difficult it is to advance policy in an environment where the vast majority of the individuals are actually working against you,” DeVos continued. “But that goes to the heart of the argument against the Department of Education, which again, I will reiterate, I think the department was created on a political payoff and we’ve seen the implications of that play out in the decades since then.”
The “political payoff” to which she referred was a deal made during the 1976 presidential election between then-candidate Jimmy Carter and the teachers’ unions. 4. 27 Chinese warplanes enter Taiwan's air defence as Taipei says it 'won't shy away from a fight' - The Daily Mail
Dozens of Chinese warplanes entered Taiwan's air defence zone today, shortly after Nancy Pelosi flew out of the country following a diplomatic visit that infuriated Beijing and drew threats of military retaliation.
In total, 27 fighters including 16 Russian-made Su-30 jets crossed into the zone, which prompted defensive measures from Taipei. The incursion comes amidst huge Chinese war games taking place until Sunday, which will surround the island in an effective blockade and cross into Taiwan's territorial waters.
But Taipei's generals have defied the threats, saying today that they are not looking for a fight with China but 'won't shy away from one' either. 'We are resolved to uphold our sovereignty, liberty and democracy' they said in a statement posted alongside a video of fighter jets, submarines, attack helicopters and warships on manoeuvres. 5. Trump-backed Tudor Dixon wins crowded Michigan GOP gubernatorial primary - Fox News
Republican Michigan gubernatorial candidate Tudor Dixon has come out on top in a crowded primary field and will face incumbent Democrat Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in the November general election.
The Associated Press called the race for Dixon with approximately 19% of the vote counted, showing her in the lead with 41% of the vote.
Dixon received a last-minute endorsement from former President Donald Trump on Friday, which appeared to help solidly her front-runner status in a field that included businessman Kevin Rinke, church pastor Ralph Rebandt, businessman and chiropractor Garrett Soldano, and real estate broker Ryan Kelley. 6. Eric Schmitt wins Missouri GOP Senate nod after muddled Trump endorsement - Washington Examiner
State Attorney General Eric Schmitt won the Republican nomination for Senate in Missouri, a repudiation of ex-Gov. Eric Greitens. Greitens's primary loss ends a comeback attempt by the former governor, who resigned in disgrace in 2018 following a scandal involving allegations of sexual misconduct, an extramarital affair, blackmail, and campaign finance violations.
Former President Donald Trump on Monday issued an eleventh-hour endorsement for "Eric," telling supporters he trusts "the Great People of Missouri, on this one, to make up their own minds." The statement, which came less than 24 hours before polls opened on Tuesday, was embraced by both Greitens and Schmitt, who each claimed it for themselves. (Read more)

7. GOP Rep. Jackie Walorski Killed in Car Accident - Townhall
U.S. Representative Jackie Walorski, a Republican representing Indiana's 2nd Congressional District, was killed Wednesday in a car accident that also claimed the lives of two congressional aides — her District Director Zachery Potts (27) and Communications Director Emma Thomson (28). Rep. Walorski was 58.
According to the local ABC affiliate, "the crash happened at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday between two vehicles near the intersection of SR 19 and SR 119" in Walorki's district.
A statement from Walorski's office shared by House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) confirmed the tragic accident.
"Jackie's husband was just informed by the Elkhart County Sheriff's Office that Jackie was killed in a car accident this afternoon," the statement read. "She has returned home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Please keep her family in your thoughts and prayers." (Read more)

8. Biden signs executive order supporting interstate travel for abortions - Just The News
President Biden on Wednesday signed an executive order for the Department of Health and Human Services to "consider action," including through Medicaid, to help women who travel across state lines to obtain an abortion that would otherwise be illegal in their home state.
The order also directs the department to "consider all appropriate actions to ensure health care providers comply with Federal non-discrimination laws so that women receive medically necessary care without delay," according to a White House press release.
Protecting abortion access has been one of the top priorities for the Biden administration since the Supreme Court in June overruled Roe v. Wade, the decades-old high court decision that provided a constitutional right to abortion. (Read more)

9. Dems push IRS auditing, but Americans say agency is too politicized - Just The News
President Joe Biden has pushed for having an army of auditors raise funds via the Internal Revenue Service, but new polling shows Americans say the tax agency has become too politicized. Convention of States Action, along with Trafalgar Group, released polling showing that “58.5 percent of voters believe that federal bureaucracies in Washington D.C., like the EPA, CDC, IRS, have grown too large and only serve their own political interests.”
The poll comes after a new spending bill in the Senate aims to raise revenue by hiring a wave of auditors to enforce the tax code. Biden has touted this plan as a funding mechanism that requires no tax rate hike.
Republicans are most skeptical of the federal agencies, but the majority of independents showed concern as well.
The IRS came under fire in recent years for targeting conservative groups and considering a plan to monitor Americans' bank accounts. (Read more)

10. 3 reasons why conservative Kansas voted to uphold abortion rights - Christian Post
High turnout among pro-choice voters and comparatively lower turnout among pro-lifer voters appear to have doomed a pro-life ballot measure in Kansas, leading to a result that pro-life activists characterize as a "huge disappointment."
Unofficial returns from the Kansas Secretary of State's office show that 59% of voters in Tuesday's primary election voted to reject the Value Them Both Amendment, while 41% voted in favor. If approved, the amendment would have amended the state's constitution so that it "does not require government funding of abortion and does not create a right to abortion."
Tuesday's referendum was the first opportunity voters in any state have had to weigh in on abortion since the U.S. Supreme Court's June 24 Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization ruling overturned the Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion nationwide. The Dobbs decision gives states the ability to regulate abortion. (Read more)

Stupidocrisy: Joe's COVID Rebound

There is an old Jim Croce song where the lyrics go something like this: “You don’t tug on Superman’s cape; You don’t spit into the wind; You don’t pull the mask off the old Lone Ranger, and you don’t mess around with Jim.” It’s a song that tells the story of the “baddest man in town” and how anyone with any common sense wouldn’t mess with him. There’s a lot of things in life that way. For example, you don’t quarantine healthy people; you don’t lockdown entire nations and economies; you don’t mandate or coerce experimental and unproven vaccines; and you don’t lie to people about their health. But the federal government did all these things and more during COVID. And Joe Biden is a living example.
Biden, arguably one of the most vaccinated men on earth, caught COVID and went into “isolation.” Most of us didn’t notice he was gone and were likely thankful that his agenda may have been slowed down in his absence—that is yet to be determined. So then the White House doctor declared Biden COVID free after he tested negative four days in a row. But then on the fifth day, he tested positive again and he once again said he would go into isolation “for the safety of everyone around me.” If that were the case, it would be safer for the country if Biden just went into permanent isolation and declared a two-year government holiday. It doesn’t accomplish much good being open under his leadership as it goes, but I digress. Biden’s doctor said Joe was suffering from COVID rebound. Remember Tony Fauci also suffered the same. Scientists explain how the deadly flooding in Kentucky got so bad

A repetitive meteorological event combined with the landscape in eastern Kentucky was a recipe bound for disaster, which led to dozens of deaths as a result of devastating flooding, scientists told ABC News.
A stubborn stationary front draped across the region for several days in a row, resulting in the formation of "training thunderstorms," storms that repeatedly move over the same region in a short period of time. These types of storms typically drop very heavy rain that leads to flash flooding, with rainfall rates reaching 4 inches per hour at times across the complex terrain of the Appalachia.
This system is exactly what occurred in Kentucky last week, creating the "perfect meteorological setup" for catastrophic flooding, Marshall Shepherd, director of the Atmospheric Sciences Program at the University of Georgia and former president of the American Meteorological Society, told ABC News.
The front and the copious amounts of moisture that it contained allowed the storm to move and develop in the same locations over a short period of time, Shepherd said. Rainfall estimates so far show that 14 to 16 inches fell during a five-day period, beginning on July 27.
Most of the rainfall fell the next day -- with the excessive amounts of rain leading to major flooding along the rivers in eastern Kentucky, shattering records along the North Fork of the Kentucky River. The topography and geology of the land in eastern Kentucky also played a significant role in exacerbating the effects of the heavy rainfall, the experts said.
The rainfall last week resulted in the biggest 24-hour event seen in the past 50 years of recording in Kentucky's Robinson Forest, Chris Barton, a professor of water hydrology and forest management at the University of Kentucky, told ABC News.
The number of victims killed in the flooding is expected to grow, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said on Tuesday, describing the event as the most "devastating and deadly" of his lifetime. (ABC News) Read more here.

Pelosi trip exposes the CCP's war against America

Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan didn’t cause a crisis with the Chinese Communist Party. Rather, it has simply brought into sharp focus a long-ignored reality: The CCP is at war with America.

Mysterious holes found on ocean floor have scientists ‘stumped’

These linear, peculiar-looking openings in the sand could be human made. But a more plausible explanation might be that they’re tracks left behind by an undiscovered species lurking in the deep sea.
The depths of the Earth's oceans contain many secrets that often take researchers years of investigation to solve. A new mystery in the Atlantic Ocean is almost literally taking them down the rabbit hole.
On July 23, along the seafloor off the coast of Portugal beneath the island chain of the Azores, scientists working with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) found a dozen sets of small holes in the sand at a depth of nearly 2 miles, with no clues of how they got there. Two weeks later and 300 miles away, they found even more mysterious holes, exactly the same as the first.
From May to September 2022, NOAA is carrying out an expedition called Voyage to the Ridge 2022 in this relatively unexplored region of the Atlantic. NOAA scientists set off from Newport, Rhode Island, to Newfoundland, Canada, on the first leg of the trip and then left Norfolk, Virginia, for the Azores. They will finish up by traversing the Atlantic in the other direction, to Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. Their research vessel, called the Okeanos Explorer, is investigating the coral and sponge colonies on volcanic ridges. Finding the holes was more of a happy accident. Read More

'GOOSE BUMPS': Viral Video Captures Stunning Rendition of the Lord's Prayer in DC's Capitol Rotunda

A man performed a beautiful rendition of the Lord's Prayer in the U.S. Capitol Wednesday evening, and after it was shared on social media it went viral, quickly garnering nearly a million views. Video of the two-minute performance shows a crowd gathered around Nathan Kistler as he sings with a full heart. Some spectators can be seen recording the powerful spiritual moment while others appear to be listening intently as if they were praying.
In Times of Deep Political Divide in D.C., One Ministry Dedicated to Bringing 'Hope to the Hill' Kistler is the executive director at Hope to the Hill Ministries in D.C., which aims to encourage, support, and minister to powerful politicians who are carrying the heavy burden of leadership. "In the last almost 13 years that I've been here, I've never sung in the rotunda of the Capitol. I've always set it up for other singers to do so. Rep. Louie Gohmert asked if I would sing for him and the group and I was honored to do so," Kistler wrote on Facebook.
During a previous interview with CBN News, Kistler explained that Hope to the Hill provides prayer and pastoral support for all those God has put in office. "So many members, when you go into their office, say, 'Well, what can I do for you today?' And we just say we don't want anything from you. We just want to know how we can pray for you," Kistler told CBN News. "And it's amazing to see members – I've had anything from they kind of shrug a little bit to crying because they've never had anybody come into their office and ask how they can pray for them."
Hope to the Hill also trains lawmakers on how to share their faith with others. Kistler urges believers to call their representative's offices and simply offer encouragement to their staffers. "Just say, 'Hey, I'm praying for you. God loves you. I love you, and we appreciate the work that you do,' and build a relationship," Kistler told CBN News. Read More and Watch Video by going here.

Indiana GOP Congresswoman Jackie Walorski killed in car crash

Republican Indiana Rep. Jackie Walorski died Wednesday at the age of 58.
Walorski, who represented Indiana's 2nd Congressional district, was killed in a car crash on Wednesday afternoon in Elkhart County, Indiana.
"On August 3, 2022 at approximately 12:32 PM the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two vehicle crash on SR 19 south of SR 119," the Elkhart County Sheriff's Office told Fox News Digital in a statement. "A northbound passenger car traveled left of center and collided head on with a southbound sports utility vehicle. All three occupants in the southbound vehicle died as a result of their injuries: Jackie Walorski, 58, Elkhart, Indiana Zachery Potts, 27, Mishawaka, Indiana Emma Thomson, 28, Washington, DC The sole occupant of the northbound vehicle, Edith Schmucker, 56, Nappanee, Indiana was pronounced deceased at the scene."
