‘Extremely dangerous’ Hurricane Idalia
makes landfall on Florida coast
|
|
Hurricane Idalia slammed into northwest Florida as an “extremely dangerous” Category 3 storm early Wednesday, as officials warned of catastrophic impacts including storm surges of up to 16 feet (about five meters).
Authorities in the southern US state described Idalia and its potentially deadly high surging waters as a once-in-a-lifetime event for Florida’s northwest coast, ordering mass evacuations and issuing flood alerts.
The US National Hurricane Center (NHC) said Idalia, which earlier raked western Cuba, was packing maximum sustained winds of approximately 125 miles (215 kilometers) per hour as it made landfall around 7:45 am (1145 GMT) in Florida’s marshy Big Bend area.
Unlike most other coastal regions in the state, Big Bend, located along the arch of the Gulf of Mexico, does not have barrier islands.
“This thing is powerful, if you’re inside, just hunker down until it gets past you,” DeSantis told a press conference just before landfall. Read more here

- Lord, we ask that you be with those affected by this storm, to comfort and restore them. As Florida fights the after effects, we pray for wisdom and resources to handle all that occurred.

1. Terror in Jerusalem: One wounded in stabbing attack, terrorist disguised as Ultra-Orthodox - World Israel News
One man was wounded in a terrorist stabbing attack at a light rail station in northern Jerusalem Wednesday evening.
The attack occurred at the Shivtei Yisrael light rail station just before 8:40 p.m. Wednesday, when an Arab resident of the capital disguised as a member of the Ultra-Orthodox Jewish community approached an Israeli man and stabbed him in the back.
The victim, a man roughly 25 years of age, was moderately wounded in the attack. A Border Police officer who had been riding on the light rail opened fire on the terrorist shortly after the attack began, killing him.
Emergency first responders from Magen David Adom and Hatzalah were dispatched to the scene of the attack and treated the victim before evacuating him to Shaare Zedek Medical Center. (Read more)

3. ‘Unacceptable, unprecedented’: Levin slams AG for not representing government in court - Times of Israel
Justice Minister Yariv Levin lambasted Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara on Wednesday for what he said was her failure to represent him in petitions against his decision not to convene the Judicial Selection Committee, and more broadly over her stance against the government in other legal proceedings against it.
In an angry letter to the government’s chief legal adviser, Levin accused Baharav-Miara of routinely siding against the government’s positions, failing to consult with cabinet ministers regarding legal proceedings against their policies, and creating a situation in which there is no basic working relationship between the government and the attorney general.
Baharav-Miara has clashed on numerous occasions with the government. She has refused to support several pieces of government-backed legislation — including its judicial overhaul bills — and has said she cannot represent the government in the High Court of Justice in petitions against the reasonableness law, the prime minister recusal law, and the actions of National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, among others. 4. Saudi funding offer to PA seen as step toward normalization with Israel - JNS
Riyadh has proposed resuming financial assistance to the Palestinian Authority, Saudi officials and former Palestinian officials say.
This is a sign the kingdom is paving the way to establishing diplomatic relations with Israel, The Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday.
“Saudi officials say they are trying to secure Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’s support for open ties with Israel, providing more legitimacy to any eventual agreement and forestalling any accusations that the kingdom would sacrifice Palestinian efforts to establish an independent state to advance its own goals,” the Journal reported.
Earlier this month, Riyadh appointed its first-ever non-resident envoy to the P.A., who will double as consul general to Jerusalem. (Read more)

5. Ben-Gvir bans Israel Police, firefighters from Harvard Wexner fellowship - Jerusalem Post
Israel’s National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir is barring government employees under his supervision — including police officers, firefighters, and prison officials — from participating in a longstanding and prestigious fellowship program for Israeli civil servants at Harvard University.
Ben-Gvir issued the ban due to what he calls the left-wing political bent of the program’s funder, the Ohio-based Wexner Foundation.
A far-right member of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, Ben-Gvir tweeted Monday that he made the decision to sever ties between the police and the foundation because of the foundation’s “involvement and cooperation with distinctly left-wing groups like Breaking the Silence.” (Read more)

1. More than 100 ex-Clarence Thomas clerks sign letter defending his integrity
– Just The News
More than 100 former clerks for Supreme Court Associate Justice Clarence Thomas have signed on to a letter defending his integrity and judicial independence amid ongoing criticism of him over his longstanding relationship with a GOP megadonor.
Earlier this year, reports highlighted Harlan Crow's financing of joint luxury vacations with the Thomases, which the justice did not disclose. Thomas has denied any wrongdoing. Additional reporting revealed that Crow had paid for the education of one of their relatives.
"As his law clerks, we offer this response. Different paths led us to our year with Justice Thomas, and we have followed different paths since," they wrote, according to Fox News. "But along the way, we all saw with our own eyes the same thing: His integrity is unimpeachable. And his independence is unshakable, deeply rooted seven decades ago as that young child who walked through the door of his grandparents’ house for a life forever changed."
The group outlined Thomas's professional and personal history and acknowledged his impact on their own lives.
"His grandfather's sayings become our sayings. His chambers become our chambers – a place fueled by unstoppable curiosity and unreturned library books, all to get every case just right," they continued.
"And yet, the stories most often told of Justice Thomas are not these. The Justice is ever the subject of political headlines taking aim at his character, his judicial philosophy, his marriage, even his race. They attempt to write over his actual story." Read more

2. Miami Mayor Francis Suarez suspends 2024 GOP presidential bid after failing to qualify for debate - AP
Miami Mayor Francis Suarez on Tuesday suspended his bid for the presidency, dropping out of the 2024 race after failing to qualify for the first Republican debate.
The two-term mayor became the first candidate to drop out of the crowded GOP field. He launched his campaign just over two months ago as one of the last competitors to join a primary race that has so far been dominated by former President Donald Trump.
“While I have decided to suspend my campaign for President, my commitment to making this a better nation for every American remains,” he said in a statement. Read more

4. Church of England Priests Say Premarital, Gay Sex Not Immoral – Breitbart
A majority of priests of the Church of England want the church to offer same-sex weddings and allow premarital and gay sex, according to a major survey.
The survey, conducted by the Times, found most Anglican priests think church teaching should be brought into line with public opinion on moral issues.
Most priests support a change to allow gay couples to get married in church, with 53.4 percent in favor and 36.5 percent opposed, revealed the survey, which assessed responses from 1,200 active Anglican priests.
The Church of England currently allows blessings for gay couples but only permits church weddings between a man and a woman. Read more

5. The math problem: Kids are still behind. How can schools catch them up? – AP
On a breezy July morning in South Seattle, a dozen elementary-aged students ran math relays behind an elementary school.
One by one, they raced to a table, where they scribbled answers to multiplication questions before sprinting back to high-five their teammate. These students are part of a summer program run by the nonprofit School Connect WA, designed to help them catch up on math and literacy skills lost during the pandemic. There are 25 students in the program, and all of them are one to three grades behind.
One 11-year-old boy couldn’t do two-digit subtraction. Thanks to the program and his mother, who has helped him each night, he’s caught up. Now, he says math is challenging, but he likes it.
Other kids haven’t fared so well.
Across the country, schools are scrambling to catch up students in math as post-pandemic test scores reveal the depth of missing skills. On average, students’ math knowledge is about half a school year behind where it should be, according to education analysts.
Children lost ground on reading tests, too, but the math declines were particularly striking. Experts say virtual learning complicated math instruction, making it tricky for teachers to guide students over a screen or spot weaknesses in problem-solving skills. Plus, parents were more likely to read with their children at home than practice math. Read more

- Lord, we pray for the education of our children – for their safety from lies, and for their skills to be able to complete math, reading, and writing skills. You are the Creator of all things, so we pray that Your truth will prevail.

6. Chaotic Scene as TN House Speaker Shoves Dem Representative – MTN
At the close of the TN House Special Session, House Speaker Cameron Sexton shoved Rep. Justin Pearson on the floor as he was walking out. Pearson was one of two black representatives expelled by Republicans last session over his opposition to pro-gun legislation, but his district voted him right back in.
Citizens observing from the gallery showered TN House Republicans with loud chants of "Vote Them Out!" as they left the floor.
When questioned by reporters afterwards, the Speaker denied shoving Pearson and claimed Pearson hit him on his shoulder, causing his head to go down. Read more

7. NY Post Editorial Board: China’s deadly COVID cover-up was worse than we thought- Fox
The House Oversight Committee on Wednesday launched a probe into President Joe Biden’s Air Force Two and Marine Two records housed at the National Archives (NARA), including logs of Joe Biden’s foreign travel with his family as vice president, according to a letter obtained by Breitbart News.
Then-Vice President Biden took a total of 411 trips across 29 countries between 2009 and the middle of 2014, Secret Service travel logs obtained by Judicial Watch show.
One of those trips was to Beijing, China, in 2013 under the “trappings” of a family vacation. Ten days after the visit to China, Hunter Biden secured a ten percent interest in BHR Partners, a Chinese state-backed investment fund co-founded with Devon Archer and Chinese private equity executive Jonathan Li, whom Joe Biden reportedly spoke to on speakerphone to sell the Biden “brand.”
BHR Partners, the fund Hunter Biden co-founded with Archer and Li, maintains investments worth billions of dollars around the globe. In 2017, Devon Archer conveyed his stake in BHR Painters to his wife. Likewise, Hunter Biden conveyed his stake to his lawyer, Kevin Morris, Breitbart News exclusively reported in April. Read more

8. Key Homeland Security agency deemed ill equipped to fight fast-growing homeland threat – Just The News
The Homeland Security agency charged with protecting U.S. airline and train passengers is significantly deficient in protecting its sensitive information systems from cybersecurity attacks that are becoming a growing threat across the globe, the department’s internal watchdog warns in a stinging new report.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was found deficient in 8 of 10 categories, incapable of ensuring “it will be able to quickly detect, respond to, and recover from a cyberattack,” Homeland’s inspector general declared in a report released this week ahead of one of the busiest travel weekends of the year with the Labor Day holiday.
In 2015, in response to increasing cyber threats, the Office of Management and Budget created the High Value Asset (HVA) security initiative tasking federal agencies with identifying their most important assets. These assets include “federal information systems, information, and data for which unauthorized access, use, disclosure, disruption, modification, or destruction could cause a significant impact to national security interests, foreign relations, the economy, safety, and the security of the American people.”
According to Homeland’s inspector general, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) along with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) subsequently developed guidelines to ensure the government’s information systems were more secure and achieved “effective risk management.” Read more

Stupidocrisy: State-Sanctioned
Sexual Grooming Of Children
The Daily Jot, Bill Wilson, August 30, 2023
The state-sponsored sexual grooming of America’s children must stop. Public schools, national, state and local government, media, Hollywood, and many large corporations support a sexual agenda aimed at confusing children about their sexuality. Who can imagine such debauchery would be allowed against kids? If adults outside of these institutions approached children with these sexual undertones, they would be labeled sexual predators because the laws protect children from such. However, public schools are, by policy, not only allowing but supporting, sexual predation, on school children. And since it is government, it appears that they can do this under legal protection. This must end.
Parents Defending Education (PDE), an organization working to stop harmful agendas in schools, has compiled a list of school districts by state that have openly stated that district personnel can or should keep a student’s transgender status hidden from parents. While PDE says the list is not comprehensive, it is extremely disturbing. PDF cites 1,040 school districts with 18,335 schools affecting some 10.7 million students subjected to these kind of policies. That’s the schools they know about. There may be many more that are unreported. These districts and teachers are withholding information from parents that puts children at risk of irreversible reproductive health decisions as well as placing them at high risk of suicide. Parental rights are purposely being violated by policy directive, and the consequences are horrible. Read More

Longest Stretch of Ancient Jerusalem's
Upper Aqueduct Revealed
|
|
The ancient aqueduct was discovered during an archeological dig in East Jerusalem's Givat Hamatos, ahead of the construction of a new neighborhood in the controversial area
An archeological salvage dig in East Jerusalem that was carried out in advance of the construction of a new neighborhood has uncovered a 3-kilometer (1.8-mile) stretch of ancient Jerusalem's upper aqueduct.
Researchers have attempted for about 150 years to decipher the secret of how the ancient city's huge water system brought water to Jerusalem during the Second Temple period (which ended in the year 70) and on into the late Roman period. In its time, it was the largest network of water infrastructure in the country.
Experts know about two aqueducts from those periods: the lower aqueduct, which supplied the Temple, and the upper aqueduct, which suppled the upper city – where the Jewish Quarter and the Armenian Quarter of the Old City are now situated. The two aqueducts carried water over considerable distances from Solomon’s Pools in the Bethlehem area into Jerusalem's city walls. Small sections of aqueduct were discovered over the years, but the debate about their precise route – and particularly when they were built – continues.

A Call to the World for 21 Days of Prayer & Fasting: 28 August - 17 September 2023 for a Global Awakening
|
|
We ask the world to join with us in 21 days of Prayer & Fasting from Monday 28 August to Sunday the 17 September 2023. Our main objective is to pray for a global Awakening and billions to find Jesus Christ as their own Lord and Saviour for the glory of God. We are praying for a wave of the "Knowledge of the Glory of God" to engulf the globe.
Australian Prayer leaders with the World Prayer Assembly and the International Prayer Council are calling the world to join with them and believe together for a great Awakening to Christ across the earth for the glory of God. Ps Margaret Court said, "Our foundational Scripture for this prayer call is Habakkuk 2:14 "For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea." That is why this prayer call is called Wave of Glory.
Such a time of Prayer & Fasting was first suggested by Dean Briggs prayer leader from USA who is helping with international coordination for the World Prayer Assembly in Perth in October. Warwick Marsh from the Canberra Declaration said, "Our prayer is inspired by Revelation 5. 'That the Lamb who was slain might receive the reward for His suffering.' So, we encourage the celebration of communion on a daily basis throughout this time of prayer.
These are the Prayer Points for the Wave of Glory prayer call. Pray for a wave of the "knowledge of the Glory of the LORD" to sweep the globe & pray for the World Prayer Assembly in Australia on 3-6 October. Pray for an Awakening for your nation and millions to find Christ. Pray for a global Awakening for the world and billions to find Christ. (Breaking Christian News) Read More and Watch Video Here

Words and Music: Helen Lemmel
Scripture: Let us fix our eyes on Jesus. Hebrews 12:2
Lyrics:
O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There’s a light for a look at the Savior,
And life more abundant and free!
Refrain
Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of the world will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace
Through death into life everlasting
He passed, and we follow Him there;
Over us sin no more hath dominion—
For more than conquerors we are!
Refrain
His Word shall not fai you—He promised;
Believe Him, and all will be well:
Then go to a world that is dying,
His perfect salvation to tell!
