US Secret Service puts Agents on Leave After Trump Assassination Attempt, Media Reports say
|
|
Multiple U.S. Secret Service agents have been placed on leave following an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump last month, media outlets reported on Friday.
Fox and CBS reported that at least five Secret Service members involved in the incident, including the head of the Secret Service's Pittsburgh office, had been put on leave.
Security at the July 13 rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, has been under scrutiny, with serious concerns about how the suspect was able to access a nearby rooftop with a direct line of sight to where Republican presidential nominee Trump was speaking.
The Secret Service has said it was "ashamed" of the security lapse and its chief stepped down in the aftermath of the assassination attempt.
Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi did not confirm whether the agents were placed on leave but said "we are examining the processes, procedures and factors that led to this operational failure" and "any identified and substantiated violations of policy will be investigated by the Office of Professional Responsibility for potential disciplinary action." Jack Smith Surrenders: Special Counsel Will Not Seek Expedited Hearing in Donald Trump Case
|
|
Special Counsel Jack Smith reversed course in his quest to seek expedited hearings in his Washington, DC, case against former President Donald Trump.
Smith sought the hearings to determine which actions that Trump allegedly took he could charge in his election interference case against the president.
The Supreme Court’s July 1 decision that presidents enjoy partial immunity for actions taken in office in an official capacity spurred Smith to alter his approach.
Before Smith relented in his latest push to expedite the increasingly shaky case, Judge Tanya Chutkan had planned to hold hearings in the fall to determine which of Trump’s acts were official acts subject to prosecution.
That determination will now occur after the election — if it occurs at all. (Breitbart )

Arizona man Accused of Threatening to Kill Trump Nabbed After Manhunt During former President's Border Visit
|
|
After a manhunt Thursday, Arizona authorities arrested a man they say threatened to kill former President Trump before a planned campaign event in the Copper State.
The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office told Fox News Digital it took 66-year-old Ronald Lee Syvrud into custody without incident. He was arrested around 2:30 p.m. local time in Cochise County.
Cochise County public information officer Carol Capas told Fox News Digital Syvrud made threatening posts on social media targeting Trump over a period of two days.
The sheriff’s office said earlier that Syvrud has outstanding warrants from the state of Wisconsin for DUI and failure to appear for DUI and from Graham County, Arizona, for hit-and-run and felony failure to register as a sex offender.
Syvrud is listed on the Wisconsin Department of Corrections sex offender registry for "second-degree sexual assault of a child" with an Arizona address. (Fox News) Read more

1. Israel strikes Hezbollah in Lebanon, preempting ‘extensive attack’ - JNS
The Israel Defense Forces launched a preemptive strike on Hezbollah targets in Southern Lebanon early on Sunday, after detecting preparations on the Iranian proxy’s part to launch an “extensive” attack.
Approximately 100 Israeli warplanes launched simultaneous strikes on some 40 Hezbollah targets, destroying over 6,000 missiles and drones, according to the IDF.
The strike targeted missile launchers that had been programmed to fire at 5 a.m. at multiple targets in Israel, including targets in the Tel Aviv area, the New York Times reported, citing a western intelligence official. “All the launchers that were targeted were destroyed and Israel [anticipates] a harsh response from Hezbollah,” the official said. 2. First Phase’ of Attack Against Israel is ‘Over,’ Hezbollah Declares, Amid Fears of Regional War - Algemeiner
24 News – A Hezbollah official said on Sunday that the jihadist group does not wish that its rocket and drone attack against Israel early in the morning should trigger a regional war and, as far as it is concerned, the “first phase” of the attack is over.
The official said the group took time to retaliate for the assassination of top commander Fuad Shukr last month due to “political considerations,” chiefly the ongoing talks on a ceasefire and hostage release deal for the Gaza Strip.
The terrorist did not elaborate as to why the group decided to launch its attack despite the still-ongoing negotiations between Israel and Hamas.
The official stressed the Shiite militia had “worked” to make sure its response to the July 30 assassination would not trigger a full-scale war. (Read more)

3. Hezbollah's 'phase one' failure: Israel foils attacks on Mossad, IDF intel bases - Jerusalem Post
Hezbollah has listed 11 bases it said it targeted, but it and the IDF have also implied that it was also hoping to target Mossad headquarters and IDF headquarters.
The Jerusalem Post understands that measures were even taken in advance to reduce the likelihood of casualties had such attacks taken place.
Those attacks would have been part of an attack of somewhere between several hundreds and potentially thousands of rockets all over northern Israel, with some targeting the Tel Aviv and central Israel regions. (Read more)

4. Israeli Navy sailor killed, two hurt by interceptor missile amid Hezbollah attack - Times of Israel
An Israeli soldier aboard a Navy vessel was killed and two others were hurt amid a major Hezbollah rocket and drone attack on northern Israel on Sunday morning, the military announced.
Meanwhile Defense Minister Yoav Gallant hailed the efficacy of Israel’s preemptive strikes in Lebanon, and IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari denied Hezbollah’s claims that it had hit any military bases in the north or center.
The slain sailor was named as Petty Officer First Class David Moshe Ben Shitrit, 21, of the Navy’s 914th Patrol Squadron, from the West Bank settlement of Geva Binyamin.

5. 2 Terrorists Neutralized in Ramming Attack Near Ariel, 2 Jewish Shepherds Attacked in Judea - Jewish Press
Israeli soldiers shot and neutralized two Palestinian Authority terrorists early Sunday evening after they rammed their vehicle into an Israeli vehicle near a military post at the Ariel Junction.
Two Israelis who were in the rammed vehicle were injured.
Magen David Adom (MDA) said its EMTs and paramedics treated a 39-year-old man with a minor abdominal injury and a 68-year-old woman who experienced severe anxiety before transporting them to Beilinson Medical Center.
The two terrorists in the vehicle involved in the attempted ramming attack were neutralized and injured by Israeli forces. (Read more)

1. Experts react to Harris' plan to tax unrealized capital gains: 'Voodoo economics' – Fox Business
With multiple reports confirming speculation that Vice President Kamala Harris will back President Biden’s tax hike plan, reactions have started pouring in from prominent figures in political and economic circles.
"It would be devastating to the economy," former CKE Restaurants CEO Andy Puzder said Thursday on "The Evening Edit."
"You're going to give up revenue, you're going to lose companies. We're going to lose business," he continued.

Comedian-actor Rob Schneider is urging fellow supporters of Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. to vote for former President Donald Trump in November, saying they need to reject the authoritarianism and failed policies of the Democratic party as embodied by Kamala Harris.
His plea comes as Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. is expected to speak Friday about the future of his maverick presidential run, with multiple reports claiming that he will end his campaign and endorse Trump. Throughout his campaign, Kennedy has accused Democrat leaders of waging legal warfare against him as he attracted growing numbers of voters who had become disenchanted with the party’s embrace of forever wars, media censorship, and vaccine mandates.

3 Jerome Powell Declares ‘Time Has Come’ For Fed to Cut Rates - Breitbart
Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell indicated on Friday that the central bank is ready to start cutting its key interest rate, possibly as early as next month, in an effort to prevent further erosion in the labor market while continuing to monitor inflation closely.
“The time has come for a policy shift,” Powell stated in a closely watched speech at the Federal Reserve’s annual symposium in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. He stressed that the pace and timing of any rate cuts will hinge on incoming data, the changing economic landscape, and the balance of risks.
Powell said that inflation has resumed its downward trajectory following a brief resurgence earlier this year.
“My confidence has grown that inflation is on a sustainable path back to 2 percent,” he said.
Although Powell’s comments shed light on the Fed’s immediate plans, uncertainties persist regarding the central bank’s strategy after September. 4. Northeastern towns issue voluntary lockdown to prevent spread of mosquito-borne disease - Fox
Four Massachusetts towns — Douglas, Oxford, Sutton and Webster — have enacted a voluntary evening lockdown in an attempt to curb the spread of a potentially deadly mosquito-borne disease.
The decision comes after the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) confirmed the first human case of Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) since 2020 in Worcester County.
On Wednesday, the Oxford Board of Health voted to support the recommendation for people to remain indoors after 6:00 p.m., effective immediately, through Sept. 30, according to a public health advisory shared with Fox News Digital.
Starting on Oct. 1, the recommendation is to remain indoors after 5:00 p.m. until the first hard frost.

5. Trump and Georgia Governor Brian Kemp appear to put rift aside and focus on winning the election – Washington Examiner
Former President Donald Trump and Gov. Brian Kemp (R-GA) appear to have put their political differences aside to work together on winning the 2024 presidential election. The two infamously feuded in the aftermath of the 2020 election, particularly after then-candidate Joe Biden won Kemp’s state of Georgia.
The rift continued as both commented against the other in recent months. During an interview with CNN in May, Kemp stated that he did not vote for Trump in the primary, though he did say he would vote for Trump in the general election. Then, earlier this month, during a campaign rally in Atlanta, Trump again made critical comments about the Georgia governor.
However, when the Georgia governor appeared on Sean Hannity’s show on Fox News, Kemp seemed to have been the first to extend an olive branch to the former president. During his segment, Kemp declared that it was important for Republicans to be victorious in the upcoming election, including Trump returning to the White House.

6. Taxpayer-Funded Oregon Org Giving Out Down Payments for New Homes to Non-Citizens Only - Breitbart
A taxpayer-funded Portland, Oregon, organization is offering extensive down payment assistance for new homebuyers in the state — but they must be non-U.S. citizens, a new report revealed.
Hacienda Community Development Corporation is offering $30,000 to first-time Oregon homebuyers who are DACA recipients, asylum seekers, refugees, green card holders, or otherwise non-citizen, journalism group Oregon Citizen showed with screenshots posted to X:
“What do you think Oregon friends? Should non citizens and undocumented citizens be given $30,000 for down payments to buy a home here in the state of Oregon?”
The money came from the state’s taxpayer-funded Economic Equity Investment Program, which allocated $15 million to a host of several organizations, including $692,775 to Hacienda CDC.
The screenshots, which Oregon Citizen said were from a flier sent to a local educator, showed that Hacienda CDC will be handing out 21 free down payments with that money.
“Clients work closely with financial coaches and HUD-certified housing counselors throughout the entirety of the homebuying process. In addition to mortgage readiness and financial fitness workshops, we provide various opportunities for down-payment assistance,” Hacienda CDC stated. Read more

The American Chronicles: Plymouth Visit

Chris and I were excited to see Plymouth village and rediscover the history, knowing now what I didn’t know when I first visited Plymouth—(I know, here we go again) that I was descended from two Mayflower voyagers—William Bradford on my father’s side and Richard Warren on my mother’s line. The night before, we made camp outside of Plymouth. We always try to keep a regular schedule while we are camping. I made a campfire while Chris took Service Dog Charlie on his regular evening walk.
Imagine our eager anticipation as we wound through the narrow streets of modern Plymouth, MA, following the GPS navigation on our RV. Then finally, the voice declared, “You have arrived.” But we were on a road outside of Plymouth with the ocean on our left and trees on our right. No sign of Plymouth Village. Every have that happen? After a half-hour, and both of our phone “Maps” aps, we actually “arrived.” Whatever happened to good old-fashioned maps?
Walking down to the Plymouth village, there were signs and displays that seemed to overcompensate about the presence of the Native Americans—a lot about the tribes and their way of life. Not so much about their interactions with the Pilgrims, which from the historic documents would demonstrate how they helped one another and got along as good neighbors. But that doesn’t match with the politically-correct versions that tend to give people reason to be divisive. From our perspective, and having read up on the relationships, there was a lot of cooperation and goodwill after an initial cautious beginning. But we dutifully followed the path, trying to imagine the real history along the way.

What happens when your warp drive fails? Scientists have the answer
|

A collapsing warp bubble like the one seen in Star Trek would set space ringing with gravitational waves.
New research "boldly goes" where physicists have never gone before, suggesting what would happen to the space around a failing warp drive.
Science fiction fans are more than familiar with the concept of a "warp drive," a device that allows spacecraft to travel at velocities faster than light, aka so-called "superluminal" speeds. These instruments are typically written as being able to manipulate the very fabric of space and time, or spacetime. Yet, even hard-core sci-fi aficionados may be surprised to learn there are a few theoretical musings about warp drives in true science as well. The most famous example is Mexican physicist Miguel Alcubierre's "Alcubierre drive."
In addition, a team from the Queen Mary University of London, Cardiff University, the University of Potsdam and the Max Planck Institute (MPI) for Gravitational Physics also discovered that if spaceships out there were already using superluminal warp drives, we could detect them via tiny ripples in spacetime called "gravitational waves" created if and when these drives break down. Christian Astronauts Lean on Their Faith While Stranded in Space
|

The world is watching and waiting as NASA works to get two stranded astronauts home from space. We’re also seeing faith at work as the rescue effort proceeds. NASA Astronaut Barry Wilmore and test pilot Suni Williams should have returned from their mission weeks ago, but engine failure has prevented that. As fellow Christians pray for their safety, Wilmore, a longtime church elder, and Williams both have the important treasure of faith with them in outer space.
Facing the unknown, both NASA and its stranded crew are checking and double-checking all options so they can get home. “We are finding stuff and we’re correcting it and making changes, making updates with our control team,” said Williams. The Boeing Starliner is on hold due to thruster failures and helium leaks. NASA Chief Astronaut Joe Acaba says the team continues to search for answers. “I do want to put this into perspective. If Butch (Wilmore) and Suni (Williams) do not come home on Starliner and they are kept aboard the station, they will have about eight months on orbit,” said Acaba.
