US charges Iranian Guards member with plot to murder ex-White House official Bolton
|
|
An Iranian operative has been charged in a plot to murder former US national security adviser John Bolton in presumed retaliation for a US airstrike that killed the country’s most powerful general, offering $300,000 to “eliminate” the Trump administration official, the Justice Department said Wednesday.
Shahram Poursafi, identified by US officials as a member of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, a US-designated terrorist organization, is currently wanted by the FBI on charges related to the murder-for-hire plot.
Prosecutors say the scheme unfolded more than a year after Qassem Soleimani, the head of the Revolutionary Guard’s elite Quds Force and an architect of Tehran’s proxy wars in the Middle East, was killed in a targeted airstrike at Baghdad’s international airport in January 2020. After the strike, Bolton, who by then had left his White House post, tweeted, “Hope this is the first step to regime change in Tehran.”
In the fall of 2021, Poursafi, an Iranian citizen who officials say has never visited the United States, offered $300,000 to someone he was corresponding with in the US if the person would hire someone to “eliminate” Bolton, according to an FBI affidavit unsealed Wednesday. Poursafi told the person, who was actually an FBI informant, that he wanted “the guy” to be purged or eliminated. (Times of Israel) Read more here.

Biden’s 87,000 new IRS agents may be short-lived
|

. . . there is a snag in Biden’s plan to audit America into oblivion. Congress revisits the appropriations for the IRS at least once a year through the Financial Services and General Government appropriations bill. Due to Congress being completely broken procedurally, this appropriation bill is often passed as part of a Continuing Resolution (CR) or by an Omnibus bill each of which lumps multiple spending bills together.
To pass a CR or Omnibus bill doesn’t require 51 votes, but instead needs the magical 60 votes to overcome a filibuster in the Senate. Meaning that 41 GOP Senators can lay down a line in the sand and simply just say no to this dramatic expansion of the Internal Revenue Service by refusing to fund it.
Ending Biden’s weaponized IRS enforcement army before it ever gets hired should be a non-negotiable part of the upcoming government funding negotiations. After all, the best way to stop an infestation is to stop it before it spreads. (Read more)

Former Trump official Michael Caputo slammed the Biden administration following the FBI's Monday raid on former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago home in Palm Beach, Florida.
In an exclusive statement to Fox News Digital, Caputo compared the FBI to the Soviet-era KGB in Russia, declared the nation was in a "full-blown constitutional crisis," and predicted the raid would lead to President Biden facing an indictment following a loss in the 2024 presidential election.
"America is in a full-blown constitutional crisis. The American people have endured a slow, creeping attack on our nation. I had a front row seat in the Russia hoax, and I've watched it get steadily and methodically worse ever since," Caputo said.
"With this militant raid on President Trump's home, we have become Russia. The FBI is the KGB. I should know. I've seen them both in action and I see no difference at all," he said.
"With all the disagreements over presidential documents across almost ever single presidency in history, there was never a military-style raid on a former president's home. Today Joe Biden just guaranteed he will be indicted in 2025. And his son. And his brother," he added.

1. New Iran satellite presents significant challenge to Israel, US and allies – experts - Times of Israel
A new Iranian satellite has surveillance capabilities that present a serious problem for Israel due to its ability to monitor sensitive sites in the country, snapping high-resolution images of objects on the ground, experts have warned.
The Khayyam satellite, built and launchedby Russia on behalf of Iran, lofted into orbit on Tuesday from the Russia-controlled Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.
Hours later Iranian media reported that the first telemetry had been received from the spacecraft. (Read more)

2. Israel, Turkey to hold first economic summit in 13 years - JNS
(August 9, 2022 / Israel Hayom)Israeli Economy and Industry Minister Orna Barbivai has decided to reinstate the role of an Israeli economic attaché to Turkey, and on Monday named Matan Safran to the role.
Safran most recently served as adviser to ministry director-general Ron Malka. From 2014-2018 he was Israel’s chief economic attaché to Romania.
Turkey is Israel’s fourth-most important economic partner and in 2021 was Israel’s fifth-largest export destination. Since May 1, 1997, the two countries have enjoyed a free-trade agreement and held four joint economic summits. The last summit took place in Jerusalem in the summer of 2009, and the fifth is expected to be held this coming autumn.
According to the ministry’s Foreign Trade Administration, bilateral trade in goods and services amounted to $7.7 billion in 2021. In that year, Israel exported $1.9 billion worth of goods to Turkey—mainly chemicals, base metals, rubber and plastic. Israel’s main imports from Turkey include base metals, machinery and electronic and mechanical parts, transportation components, and fresh agricultural produce. (Read more)

3. Likud holds primaries to elect candidates for Knesset - YNET News
140,000 eligible Likud members are expected to vote on Wednesday in 110 voting sites across Israel to fill the party's Knesset slate list, except for the top spot, held by veteran leader Benjamin Netanyahu.
70 candidates registered in the national roster list, and 40 other contenders will fight for the regional district slots as candidates fight for the top spots.
According to current polling, In the November elections, Likud is expected to gain 35 seats, to be the largest faction as it seeks to regain power after failing to form a government after the 2020 ballot.
The battle for the first five slots will be between senior Likud members and between other candidates who gained power and are considered to have strong support. (Read more)

4. Foreign medical students no longer allowed to study in Israel - World Israel News
This coming academic year will mark the last class of new foreign medical school students who will graduate from Israeli universities, as the Ministry of Health has decided that its priority is to groom local talent from 2023 onwards.
“There was no choice,” Ben Gurion University (BGU) President Prof. Daniel Chamovitz told The Jerusalem Post. “We need more Israelis to study medicine here.”
The number of physicians trained has not kept up with the country’s population growth, with Israel ranking near the bottom of doctors per capita among OECD countries, especially in the periphery, the Post noted.
The move is not totally unexpected, given that the Council for Higher Education had recommended it already in 2018. A significant number of Israeli students who study abroad do not return. (Read more)

5. Jewish-purchased lands in eastern Jerusalem to be reclaimed? - Israel National News
An enclave of 16 dunams on a green hill overlooking the separation fence between Abu Dis and the eastern border of the Jaber Mukaber neighborhood of Jerusalem, appears to be the next battleground in the capital after the Ministry of Justice completed the transfer of land to the temporary ownership of the State of Israel, according to a report in Israel Hayom.
The report states that investigators hired by the General Custodian obtained evidence that the land was purchased by Jews at the beginning of the previous century and recently received the court's consent in the matter.
The story begins in 1924 when property prices dramatically rose in British-occupied Jerusalem, making it increasingly difficult for its Jewish residents, mostly belonging to the lower middle class, to acquire land. This led to the establishment of an investment group by the name of "The Neighbors Committee" whose intention was to purchase land and create a new neighborhood featuring lower-priced homes. The group soon expressed interest in buying about 400 dunams in the Arab town of Abu Dis, neighboring the future capital. (Read more)

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D) was projected to win her primary in Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District, setting up a likely third term in the House for a progressive member who has proven to be a lightning rod for GOP criticism since entering Congress.

4. DHS to end ‘Remain in Mexico,’ allow asylum seekers to enter U.S. - Washington Post
The Department of Homeland Security said late Monday it is preparing to quickly end the Trump-era “Remain in Mexico” program and will no longer send asylum seekers back across the border to await a decision on their applications for U.S. protection.
The announcement came after U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk lifted his injunction blocking Biden officials from ending the program, formally known as the “Migrant Protection Protocols” or MPP.
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled June 30 that the Biden administration had the authority to terminate the program, opening a path for DHS to finally bring a close to one of the Trump administration’s most contentious border measures. (Read more)

Former President Donald Trump said on Wednesday he “declined to answer” questions under oath in a New York civil investigation into his business, invoking the Fifth Amendment.
Not long after arriving at New York Attorney General Letitia James’ office on Wednesday to answer question under oath for an ongoing civil investigation into his business practices, Trump released a lengthy statement disparaging James and implying that he would invoke the Fifth Amendment – which guarantees a right to refuse to answer questions to avoid incriminating oneself.

6. CNN Gets Ripped For Suggesting Inflation, At 8.5%, Is Something To Be Happy About - The Daily Caller
A number of conservatives mocked CNN on Twitter early Wednesday for suggesting inflation, which slightly decreased to 8.5%, is worth breathing a sigh of relief over.
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) did not change from June to July, according to data released Wednesday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Inflation remains at 8.5% and the food index increased 1.1% in July, the seventh consecutive monthly increase of 0.9% or more, according to the BLS.
CNN tweeted inflation “took a breather in July, thanks to the falling cost of food and gas, as consumer prices grew at a slower pace than in previous months.”
Communications Director for the Republican Governors Association, Jesse Hunt, said nobody would actually be breathing a sigh of relief. (Read more)

7. Sen. Marco Rubio predicts FBI will target conservatives next after Mar-a-Lago raid - Just The News
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) predicted that law enforcement will start targeting supporters of former President Donald Trump and conservatives in general following the FBI's raid on Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.
Although Rubio and Trump were described by New York Magazine as the "best of frenemies" due to their tense relationship starting during the 2016 election, the senator sided with the former president during an interview Tuesday with Fox News' Sean Hannity.
"I'm telling you the next thing you're going to see here, Sean, because it's the playbook. And that is, they are now going to begin to say, 'Oh, these Trump supporters, these Republicans, they're very upset. They're saying very angry things. We think they might be a threat. 8. Russian spy plane enters Alaska defense zone - Just The News
Surveillance aircraft from the Russian Federation entered the Alaskan Air Defense Identification Zone two times in the past two days. The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) announced via Twitter on Tuesday that "[o]n two separate occasions, over the past 2 days, the Alaskan NORAD Region detected, tracked and identified Russian surveillance aircraft entering and operating within the Alaskan ADIZ."
Russian planes did not enter American or Canadian airspace, NORAD added. The Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone includes international territory outside of American airspace through which other nation's planes may legally fly, albeit at risk of heightening diplomatic and military tensions, according to The Hill.
NORAD last announced a foreign entry into the ADIZ in October 2021 when five Russian aircraft breached the perimeter, the outlet noted. (Read more)

9. McCarthy vows to investigate 'weaponized politicization' of DOJ after FBI raid on Trump's home - Christian Post
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., has warned that if Republicans take back control of the House they will investigate the "weaponized politicization" of the Department of Justice following the FBI raid on the Mar-a-Lago home of former President Donald Trump.
In a statement posted to his official Twitter account on Monday, McCarthy denounced the raid and vowed to investigate the U.S. Department of Justice should the Republicans take back control of the House of Representatives in January.
“I’ve seen enough. The Department of Justice has reached an intolerable state of weaponized politicization,” McCarthy said. “When Republicans take back the House, we will conduct immediate oversight of this department, follow the facts, and leave no stone unturned.” (Read more)

Stupidocrisy: Ignoring The Message

One of the most egregious abuses of government power in American history has occurred and those in charge claim they knew nothing about it. This doesn’t pass the straight-face test. If the FBI or IRS or Homeland Security or any of the other strongarms of the federal government can invade a person’s house, a person who is cooperating with investigations and is not a lethal threat to society, someone like former president Donald Trump, they can do it to you. And to show the complicity of political opponents, all you have to do is listen to their responses—they claim they don’t know anything. When a target like the former president is publicly raided, you can bet your jackboots they all know what’s going on.
Let’s start with the White House. As reported by several media outlets because the White House Daily Briefing was not posted on whitehouse.gov at the time of this writing, Biden Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said, “No, the president was not briefed, was not aware of it. No one at the White House was given a heads up. No, that did not happen…The president learned about this just like you all did — through the public reports and we learned about this just like the American people did. We did not know about this and we had not been briefed. Judge Orders Department of Justice to Respond to Requests to Unseal FBI’s Trump Warrant

The Justice Department has to respond to motions to unseal a warrant that triggered the FBI raid on former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home, according to a magistrate judge who reportedly approved the search.
Judicial Watch and the Albany Times Union newspaper filed a motion to unseal the document earlier this week, which was granted by a judge in the case.
“On or before 5:00 p.m. Eastern time on August 15, 2022, the Government shall file a Response to the Motion to Unseal,” wrote Judge Bruce Reinhart on Wednesday afternoon, referring to the Department of Justice.
“The response may be filed ex parte and under seal as necessary to avoid disclosing matters already under seal. In that event, the Government shall file a redacted Response in the public record. If it chooses, the Government may file a consolidated Response to all Motions to Seal,” he wrote.
On Wednesday, the Times Union’s managing editor, Brendan J. Lyons, wrote to Reinhart to ask for the warrant to be unsealed.
“Given that the search warrant(s) have been executed, and the target of that search has full knowledge of what occurred, there is no impediment to any ongoing investigation from the disclosure of the search warrant order or the returns. As such, these records should be unsealed,” the letter to the Florida judge reads.
Eric Trump, a son of the former president, told the Daily Mail that a Trump attorney at Mar-a-Lago, Christina Bobb, asked FBI agents Monday about seeing a warrant.
“They would not give her the search warrant,” he told the outlet, referring to Bobb. “So they showed it to her from about 10 feet away. They would not give her a copy of the search warrant.” (The Epoch Times) Read more here.

Dozens of people in eastern China are known to have been infected by a novel virus, named Langya henipavirus (LayV), that appears to be transmitted from animals to people.
What is Langya henipavirus?
LayV is part of a genus of viruses called henipaviruses that are typically harboured in fruit bats. The genus includes the Hendra virus, which was first identified in Australia in 1994 and is know to infect humans and horses. The Nipah virus, first identified in 1999 in Malaysia, is also part of this genus. Both infections have high fatality rates in people.
LayV appears to be most related to Moijang henipavirus, according to a team of researchers in China and Australia. In 2012, Moijang henipavirus was linked to the onset of severe pneumonia, and eventually death, in three men working in a derelict copper mine in China.
In the latest development, a group of people with fever and a recent history of animal exposure were being monitored in eastern China. A new henipavirus – LayV - was identified in a throat swab sample from one individual.
A subsequent analysis revealed 35 cases of LayV in people, mostly farmers, arose in the Shandong and Henan provinces of eastern China between December 2018 and May 2021. Read More

Twenty-three attorneys general back suit to end CDC mask mandates for public transportation
|
|
A group of state attorneys general filed an amicus brief in support of a court decision to end the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's mask mandate for public transportation as the Biden administration seeks its restoration. A federal judge in April ruled that the mandate was unlawful because the CDC lacked the statutory authority to impose it and the agency failed to adequately justify the measure. The Biden Department of Justice in late May formally asked an appeals court to overturn the ruling on the grounds that CDC data from 2021 gave "ample support for the agency's determination that there was good cause to make the order effective without delay." Moreover, the DOJ asserted that the CDC did have the authority to initially issue the mask requirement.
In a Tuesday press release, Arizona Republican Attorney General Mark Brnovich argued that "President Biden’s CDC mask mandate exceeds its authority and infringes on the ability of state leaders to enact their own public health rules. The CDC claims it has authority to issue a mask mandate in its power to require 'sanitation' measures under 42 U.S.C. § 264(a)," the Brnovich statement read. "However, the statute says the CDC cannot demand that domestic travelers be examined without evidence that they are carrying disease. The brief argues that the mandate is invalid because it failed to go through notice and comment procedures. The CDC rule is arbitrary and capricious with numerous exceptions the agency did not explain or justify," the attorney general asserted.
Other attorneys general signatories to the brief, including Missouri Republican Eric Schmitt, also commented. Schmitt tweeted "Biden and the Covid tyrants are at it again. They want forced masking on airplanes again. No way. Missouri is helping hold the line." Indiana Republican Attorney General Todd Rokita warned that mask mandates could return to the country and called on the courts to firmly reject CDC authority to reinstate such a requirement, tweeting, "Mask mandates might seem like a thing of the past, but courts still must state clearly that the CDC lacks statutory authority to issue a nationwide mask mandate (such as for buses, planes, transportation hubs, etc.)."
