United We Stand Tuesday, April 16, 2024
|
|
|
Last night, our Lord brought us two excellent speakers on two related topics.
First we heard from Gabriella "Gabbie" Buchnak, a messianic believer who has her finger on the pulse of events in Israel. She brought us late-breaking news from Zion, and prayer points we could track in this hour.
Our keynote speaker was Pastor Carolyn Sissom of the East Gate Church in Katy, Texas. Pastor Sissom taught us about "How to Walk in Peace in Turbulent Times." Praise God!
You can hear last night's session by going here. See you next week!

House Will ‘Try Again’ on Israel Funding This Week: Speaker Johnson
|
|
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said the House will “try again” to pass a funding package for Israel this week following Iran’s attack on the Middle Eastern nation.
During an appearance on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures,” the speaker was asked if the attack, which Iran said was in retaliation for an Israeli strike on an Iranian diplomatic building in Syria, would change the House’s plans for funding Israel.
“We’ve understood the urgency of this from the very beginning,” Mr. Johnson said, noting that only days after he became speaker, the House passed a $14 billion aid package for Israel that would have been paid for by slashing the budget of the IRS.
That bill has languished in the Senate, where it hasn’t even been brought up for a vote by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.).
Later, Mr. Johnson noted, the House rejected a “clean” funding bill for Israel, also with a top-line cost of $14 billion, that was opposed by a majority of Democrats after President Joe Biden said he would veto the bill. It failed to pass since it was brought up under an expedited process that requires a two-thirds majority for passage.
Still, Mr. Johnson said he plans to make another foray into funding Israel in the wake of Iran’s April 13 attack.
“House Republicans and the Republican Party understand the necessity of standing with Israel,” he said. “We’re going to try again this week. And the details of that package are being put together right now. We’re looking at the options and all these supplemental issues.” (The Epoch Times)

France, Germany urge its citizens to depart Iran, cancel flights amid increased risk of military escalation
|
|
France and Germany have urged their citizens to depart Iran amid an increased risk of military escalation in the Middle East.
"Due to the new level reached overnight by Iran and the risk of military escalation, the French embassy recommends to French residents in Iran who have the possibility, depending on the resumption of international air traffic, to leave temporarily the country," French Foreign Minister Stéphane Séjourné said in a statement issued Sunday. "You are asked to exercise the greatest caution when traveling, to avoid any gatherings in the country and to keep yourself informed of the situation."
The statement added that French nationals "are recommended to absolutely refrain from traveling to Iran, Lebanon, Israel and the Palestinian Territories."
The German airline group Lufthansa, which includes the German flagship carrier as well as Swiss and Austrian airlines, announced on Sunday that it was suspending flights to Amman, Erbil and Tel Aviv until at least Tuesday and flights to Beirut and Tehran until at least Thursday as it continues to evaluate the security situation in the Middle East and maintains close contact with authorities, Reuters reported. Lufthansa already announced Friday it was suspending flights to and from Tehran until at least April 18. (Fox News) Read more here.

- Mighty God, we pray for the safety of all citizens of all countries, including the Iranians, during this time of unrest and fighting. We pray that avenues of escape will be opened for the Europeans in the land, most particularly those who are of Iranian descent. We recognize the troubles that may yet come and we pray for You, Holy One, to fill the believers with wisdom to know what to do and where to go at this time. May the Persian Christians be a witness to the Europeans as they help them leave the country, in Jesus' name.
- "Nevertheless He saved them for His name's sake. That He might make His mighty power known." (Psalm 106:8)

Everything You Need to Know About Trump’s Trial in New York This Week
|
|
Trump is headed to the first of his expected criminal trials on April 15. He’s facing felony counts related to his payments to Stephanie Clifford.
|
|
The first of former President Donald Trump’s criminal trials is set to begin on April 15 after New York prosecutors accused him of falsifying business records related to an alleged affair with adult performer Stephanie Clifford, also known as Stormy Daniels.
The trial is occurring on the heels of a $175 million bond payment the former president posted in a civil fraud lawsuit, also in New York.
The impending trial raises the prospect that he could face additional penalties, including a criminal conviction, before the 2024 election.
Experts have offered differing views regarding the eventual verdict, but the New York Clifford case is generally considered the least consequential of his four criminal cases. President Trump is currently facing potential prison time in his Washington and Georgia election-related cases, and his Florida documents case, none of which appears to have a certain trial date; some could be after the election.
The four trials also raise legal issues that could influence how future presidents and candidates make decisions. New York Judge Juan Merchan just added yet another gag order to the list that President Trump has encountered in Washington and his civil trial, prompting questions about free speech for leading candidates facing trial.
|
|
Conservative author Henry Olsen told The Epoch Times that President Trump’s “reputation among voters is pretty set.”
“I do not think that this particular trial is going to change things very much if he is convicted. I do think that somehow if they were to procure a mistrial ... I think that could help him because it goes against the grain,” he said.
“I don’t think it would change a lot of opinions about his character, but it might shift a little bit of the framing around the nature of the lawsuits.” (The Epoch Times) Read more here.

1. WSJ: Israel could hit back against Iran as soon as Monday - Israel Hayom
Israel's security cabinet was weighing a potential military strike against Iran that could come as soon as Monday, just days after the Jewish state repelled an unprecedented wave of missile and drone attacks by Tehran, the Wall Street Journalreported on Monday. The discussions came as President Joe Biden urged restraint and rallied allies for a united diplomatic front to prevent the long-simmering conflict from escalating into a broader regional war.
With the timeline for an Israeli retaliation potentially imminent, the race is on to de-escalate soaring tensions and get the hostilities between the two adversaries off the path toward open warfare that could engulf the Middle East and entangle the United States.
Tehran launched what military experts called one of the largest combined aerial assaults in recent history, with over 300 drones and missiles targeting Israeli territory. However, 99% of those projectiles failed to hit their intended targets thanks to an air defense operation coordinated by Israel, the US, UK, France and Arab allies like Saudi Arabia and Jordan. 2. Iranian Jewish community publicly celebrates attacks on Israel - World Israel News
The Jewish community of Iran publicly endorsed Iran’s missile and drone attacks on Israel over the weekend, expressing its “appreciation” for the massive barrage launched on Saturday.
In a Telegram post on Monday from the community’s official profile, representatives of Iranian Jewry announced on behalf of the Islamic republic’s roughly 8,000 remaining Jews their “Appreciation of the hero armed forces of the land of Iran.”
The announcement went on to praise Iran for “punishing the Zionist enemy” for the targeted killing earlier this month of Mohammed Reza Zahedi, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Force in an airstrike on a building used by the Iranian embassy in Damascus.
Experts say Iran’s shrinking Jewish population is “held hostage” by the Iranian government, and issued the statement out of fear local Jews could be targeted for “revenge.” (Read more)

3. Saudi Arabia says it helped defend Israel against Iran — report - Jerusalem Post
Saudi Arabia acknowledged that it had helped the newly forged regional military coalition — Israel, the United States, Jordan, the United Kingdom, and France — repel an Iranian attack against the Jewish state early Sunday morning, according to a story on KAN News.
The story spoke of the Saudi involvement in the military defensive operation in which 99% of the Iranian drones and missiles were destroyed before hitting their targets. Many of the drones and missiles had to travel over Jordanian and Saudi airspace to reach Israel.
A source connected to the Saudi Royal family told KAN that the country had a system to automatically intercept any suspicious entity in its airspace. (Read more)

4. Hamas, Hezbollah Fighting Continues for Israel on Multiple Fronts Amid Iran Attack Fallout - Algemeiner
While the world shifted its attention to Israel’s potential retaliation against Iran for its massive attack on the Jewish stateover the weekend, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) continued its fight with Hamas to the south and Hezbollah to the north.
The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit released a statement on Monday afternoon reporting that four soldiers were wounded by an explosion the prior night near Israel’s northern border, which Hezbollah terrorists have been targeting daily from their home base of Lebanon since Hamas’ Oct. 7 massacre across southern Israel.
“During an operational activity in the border area in the north of the country last night, an IDF soldier was seriously injured, two IDF soldiers were moderately injured, and another soldier was slightly injured by an explosion of unknown origin,” the statement read. “The incident is being investigated.”
The soldiers were evacuated to receive medical treatment at a hospital, and their families were informed of the situation.
Hezbollah later claimed responsibility for planting an explosive device near the border, saying it exploded when the IDF soldiers were close and was monitoring Israeli troop movements. (Read more)

1. Biden tells Netanyahu US would not take part in Israeli counter strike against Iran - Reuters
President Joe Biden has told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the United States would not participate in any Israeli counter-offensive against Iran, U.S. officials said on Sunday.
Iran launched hundreds of drones and missiles at Israel on Saturday night in response to a suspected Israeli attack on Iran's Syria consulate on April 1.
In a statement issued late on Saturday following the attacks, Biden said he told Netanyahu that Israel had "demonstrated a remarkable capacity to defend against and defeat even unprecedented attacks."
Biden did not say in the statement if he and Netanyahu discussed a possible Israeli response or potential U.S. involvement.
"We believe Israel has freedom of action to protect itself and defend itself, in Syria or elsewhere... That's a long-standing policy and that remains, but no we would not envision ourselves participating in such a thing," one senior U.S. administration official said.
John Kirby, the White House's top national security spokesperson, told ABC's "This Week" program on Sunday that the United States will continue to help Israel defend itself, but does not want war with Iran.
Asked if the United States would support retaliation from Israel in Iran, Kirby said that "our commitment is ironclad" to defending Israel and to "helping Israel defend itself." (Read more)

2. Ukraine calls for 'bold' air defence support from allies - Reuters
Ukraine appealed again to allies on Monday for "extraordinary and bold steps" to supply air defences to help defend against waves of Russian air strikes that have targeted the energy system in recent weeks.
Russian missile and drone attacks have pounded Ukrainian energy infrastructure since mid-March, prompting Kyiv to issue increasingly desperate calls for air defence help.
"We urgently require additional Patriot and other modern air defence systems, weapons and ammunition," Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba told a Black Sea security conference via video link. "I take this opportunity to once again urge all of our partners to take extraordinary and bold steps."
"Ukrainian air defence is now protecting not only Ukrainian skies from Russian air terror, it also shields neighbouring Moldova, Romania and Poland from the immediate threat of missiles and drones entering their air space," he added. (Read more)

3. How Israel foiled Iran’s ballistic missiles as they headed to an F-35 airbase - Times of Israel
Sirens and explosions were heard nationwide in Israel early Sunday morning as Iran launched a wave of more than 300 drones and missiles at the country in its first-ever direct attack on the Jewish state.
Here is what we know about what Iran attempted to target, how Israel defended against the attack, and why alarms were activated and explosions were heard across the country.
While a list of sites Iran tried to hit has not been publicized by Tehran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps — which launched the drones and missiles — the main target of the attack appeared to be a sensitive airbase in southern Israel, Nevatim, home to the F-35 stealth fighter jet, the military’s most advanced aircraft.
According to the Israel Defense Forces, Iran’s attack comprised 170 drones, 30 cruise missiles, and 120 ballistic missiles — 99% of which were intercepted by air defenses. (Read more)

4. How the Israel Air Force could bring Iran to its knees - analysis - Jerusalem Post
Iran took its best shot (or a very significant one) at Israel with over 100 ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and over 100 drones, totaling over 300 forms of aerial attack from many different sides and vectors.
What if Israel finally decides to strike back? What if it decides to take this opportunity to finally bomb Iran’s prized nuclear weapons program?
Such a scenario has been gamed out for years, but here is one version of what it could look like.
Several quartets of F-35 stealth combat jets could fly by separate routes to hit sites across the massive Islamic Republic, some as far as 1,200 miles from the Jewish state.
Some of the aircraft might fly along the border between Syria and Turkey (despite those countries' opposition) and then race across Iraq (who would also oppose). Other aircraft might fly through Saudi airspace (unclear if this would be with quiet agreement or opposition) and the Persian Gulf.
The main aim would be to eliminate Iran's air defense
They might arrive simultaneously or in waves (as Iran did overnight between Saturday and Sunday) to first eliminate the ayatollahs’ air defenses at dozens of Iranian nuclear sites, carefully hand-picked by the Mossad and IDF intelligence. (Read more)

5. 26 barges break loose on flooded Ohio River, destroy Pittsburgh marina - Fox
PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Officials closed several bridges across Pittsburgh late Friday and Saturday morning as more than two dozen cargo barges broke loose and careened down the flooded Ohio River.
"The McKees Rocks Bridge was closed in both directions, and rail traffic was shut down on the rail bridge to Brunot Island," public safety officials in Pittsburgh said in a statement. "Both will be reopened when it is determined that it is safe to do so."
The 26 barges broke loose about 11:25 p.m. local time after flooding rains swelled the Ohio River. According to Pittsburgh Public Safety, only three barges were empty. The rest were loaded with dry cargo like coal.
The barges caused "extensive damage" to Peggy's Harbor, public safety officials said. A local reporter said that the barges crashed into between 60 and 70 boat slips, crushing both the boats and the dock. He said a boat owner told him, "I've never seen carnage like this before."
A tugboat corralled 11 of the barges as they struck the Bruinot Island train bridge. The second part of the video attached to the top of this story shows barges approaching the bridge and making it through without colliding. Some had the help of a manned boat. (Read more)

7. FBI opens criminal investigation into Baltimore bridge collapse - Breitbart
The FBI is conducting a criminal investigation into the deadly collapse of Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge that is focused on the circumstances leading up to it and whether all federal laws were followed, according to a person familiar with the matter.
The FBI was present aboard the cargo ship Dali conducting court authorized law enforcement activity, the agency said in a statement Monday.
And on Monday, Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott announced a partnership with two law firms to “launch legal action to hold the wrongdoers responsible” and mitigate harm to city residents.
Monday’s statement from Baltimore said the city “will take decisive action to hold responsible all entities accountable for the Key Bridge tragedy, including the owner, charterer, manager/operator, and the manufacturer of the M/V Dali, as well as any other potentially liable third parties.”
“We are continuing to do everything in our power to support everyone impacted here and will continue to recognize the human impact this event has had,” Scott said in a statement. “Part of that work needs to be seeking recourse from those who may potentially be responsible, and with the ship’s owner filing a petition to limit its liability mere days after the incident, we need to act equally as quickly to protect the City’s interests.” (Read more)

8. Denver Mayor Defunding Police and Fire Depts to Pay for More Migrant Services - Breitbart
Denver Mayor Mike Johnston proposes defunding the city’s police and fire departments to put more cash to house and care for illegals as the city continues to drown in a wave of illegal aliens and the costs wash over the Mile High City like a tidal wave.
The city is not only increasing its spending on free food, clothing, medical care, and housing, among other things, it is also spending for programs on job counseling, language instruction, and other job training resources for migrants.
According to Mayor Johnston, “The program also includes access to language instruction, career pathway explorations, industry-recognized credential training and work-based learning opportunities,” OANN News reported on Friday. This newest suite of training programs for illegals is part of Johnston’s proposed $89.9 million in spending for migrants.
But according to the Denver Police and Fire Departments, some of this new spending Johnston wants to indulge is coming from their budgets. The Denver Police Dept., for instance, confirmed that it is losing $8.4 million from its operating budget.
The city’s fire department is also being told it will lose money, with a deficit of $2.5 million cut from its budget.
According to KSUA-TV in Denver, Johnston is also set to cut the pay of the city’s 9-1-1 operators by making changes in how they pay the public service operators. (Read more)

WASHINGTON/BAGHDAD/DUBAI, April 14 (Reuters) - Turkish, Jordanian and Iraqi officials said on Sunday that Iran gave wide notice days before its drone and missile attack on Israel, but U.S. officials said Tehran did not warn Washington and that it was aiming to cause significant damage.
Iran launched hundreds of drones and missiles on Saturday in a retaliatory strike after a suspected Israeli strike on its embassy compound in Syria.
Most of the drones and missiles were downed before reaching Israeli territory, though a young girl was critically injured and there were widespread concerns of further escalation.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said on Sunday that Iran gave neighbouring countries and Israel's ally the United States 72 hours' notice it would launch the strikes.
One senior official in U.S. President Joe Biden's administration denied Amirabdollahian's statement, saying Washington did have contact with Iran through Swiss intermediaries but did not get notice 72 hours in advance.
"That is absolutely not true,” the official said. “They did not give a notification, nor did they give any sense of ... 'these will be the targets, so evacuate them.'" (Reuters) Read more.

Double trouble: Arizona dust devils combine along Route 66
|
|
KINGMAN, Az. – Two dust devils whipping up dirt and tumbleweeds along Route 66 in Arizona on Saturday combined to become one massive vortex, according to video captured by storm chasers caught up in the dust devil.
Dust devils are created by strong surface heating and typically last only a few minutes. The vortices are usually smaller and less intense than a tornado but, on average, reach between 500 and 1,000 feet tall.
Video taken north of Kingman, Arizona, along Route 66 showed two dust devils spinning along an agricultural field with a clear blue sky in the background. A group of storm chasers documenting the weather phenomenon were blasted by dust and debris as one of the two dust devils spun away.
Eventually, one of the dust devils caught up to the other and the two became one massive twister.
According to the FOX Forecast Center, the Desert Southwest has been heating up again, offering favorable conditions for dust devils like the ones in the video to form. Read More

World’s Oldest Man Dies, Leaves Behind Secrets to His Long, 114-Year Life
|
|
Juan Vicente Pérez Mora of Venezuela was officially the world’s oldest man before his death on April 2. He was 114. Guinness World Records, who had registered Mora as the world’s eldest man, reported in a 2022 profile that one of Mora’s passions was building a strong relationship with the Lord and his family. As part of that connection with God, Mora, who was born in 1909 and would have turned 115 on May 27, reportedly prayed twice daily. He said his secret to a long life was to “work hard, rest on holidays, go to bed early, drink a glass of aguardiente every day, love God, and always carry him in your heart.”
Over the years, Mora built a massive family, with six sons and five daughters with his wife Ediofina del Rosario García, who died in 1997, according to The Christian Post. In sum, Mora had 42 grandkids, 18 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Numerous outlets have noted Mora’s faith, which is fitting, considering Guinness World Records noted “he wants to be remembered as a hard-working man, faithful to his wife and his religion.” As CBN News has reported, it’s not uncommon for elderly individuals to credit their faith for success and longevity. In 2022, then-107-year-old Adell Julie Thompson revealed her secret to longevity: following God and the Bible. “I do what the Bible tells me,” Thompson told WLTX-TV. (CBN) Watch Tribute Here.
- Father, we lift praise for the testimony of this 114 year old man who made the Guinness World Records and attributed his long life to honoring the Lord daily! Thank You for blessing him with many years and numerous grandchildren to carry on his faith-filled legacy. May love for Christ continue throughout all future generations coming after him. In Jesus Name-Amen

All the Way my Savior Leads Me
To listen to this classic hymn, CLICK HERE
Words: Fanny Crosby
Music: Robert Lowry
Scripture: The Lamb…will lead them to springs of living water. Revelation 7:17
Lyrics:
All the way my Savior leads me;
What have I to ask beside?
Can I doubt His tender mercy,
Who through life has been my guide?
Heav’nly peace, divinest comfort,
Here by faith in Him to dwell!
For I know, whate’er befall me,
Jesus doeth all things well;
For I know, whate’er befall me,
Jesus doeth all things well.
All the way my Savior leads me,
Cheers each winding path I tread;
Gives me grace for every trial,
Feeds me with the living bread.
Though my weary steps may falter,
And my soul athirst may be,
Gushing from the rock before me,
Lo! A spring of joy I see;
Gushing from the rock before me,
Lo! A spring of joy I see.
All the way my Savior leads me
O the fullness of His love!
Perfect rest to me is promised
In my Father’s house above.
When my spirit, clothed immortal,
Wings its flight to realms of day
This my song through endless ages—
Jesus led me all the way;
This my song through endless ages—
Jesus led me all the way.
