TODAY'S TOP STORY
How the New York City subway shooting suspect was captured

Brooklyn subway shooter suspect Frank James, was arrested within 30 hours after the incident through a combination of on-the-ground detective work, technology and possibly a tip from the fugitive himself, investigators said.

"We were able to shrink his world, quickly. There was nowhere left for him to run," New York Police Department Commissioner Keechant Sewell said at a press conference Wednesday afternoon.

Officers got their first lead soon after the incident at the crime scene, the 36th Street subway station in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, where several eyewitnesses filmed and photographed James.

Police said the suspect also left behind key pieces of evidence that helped them track his movements before and after the incident -- a 9 mm Glock allegedly used in the shooting, his coat, a bag filled with fireworks and James' credit card. (ABC) Read more.

- Lord God, we are AMAZED that, given the number of injured in this tragedy, NO ONE WAS KILLED! We see Your Mighty Hand in the midst of this shooting,
protecting all the passengers on that subway from harm. Thank You, Lord Jesus, thank You!

We now pray for Frank James and all in our nation who are mentally disturbed. We ask for a new measure of grace to be poured out upon the agencies, both public and private, who are charged with helping these souls be healed. And we ask a miracle of deliverance for Frank James by Your mighty hand. Amen.

- "For with God nothing shall be impossible." (Luke 1:37)
FOCUS ON ISRAEL

1. Israel says Iran has nearly enough uranium for a bomb, as talks remain stuck - Jerusalem Post

Iran is close to having enough enriched uranium for a weapon as negotiations to return to the 2015 nuclear deal remain stuck, a diplomatic source said on Wednesday.

The Islamic Republic is very close to having a significant quantity of enriched uranium – meaning enough to produce one bomb and a redline set by Western parties to the talks.

While Iran is not yet enriching uranium to weapons-grade material at 90% purity, larger quantities of uranium enriched to a lower purity can be enough for a bomb. Jerusalem’s assessment is that Iran is close to having a significant quantity of uranium enriched to 60%. (Read more)

2. Top Iranian Nuclear Scientist Claims Israel Daily Threatening to Bomb Iran, Justifying Weapons Program - Algemeiner

A top Iranian nuclear scientist falsely claimed that Israel has threatened to use a nuclear weapon against Iran and that Iran’s nuclear program is essential to establish deterrence and force the world to accede to its demands.

According to a translation by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI), Dr. Mahmoud-Reza Aghamiri, the head of the Nuclear Engineering Department at Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran, said in an April 9 lecture, “Not a day passes — when I say this, it means that it may have happened or is happening this morning — without Israel saying that if needed, it will use a nuclear bomb against Iran.”

Israel has never made such a threat.

Aghamiri claimed Iran needs a nuclear weapon to counter such threats. “Even in the case of Ukraine, you saw that Russia threatened that if it could not reach an agreement under certain conditions, the option of a nuclear bomb exists — Putin has the [nuclear] suitcase, and [Russia] would use this option,” he said. “What does this mean?” (Read more)

3. Hamas threatens Israel over extremists’ plans for Passover sacrifice on Temple Mount - Times of Israel

The Hamas terror group on Wednesday threatened Israel over plans by Jewish activists to conduct ritual sacrifices on Jerusalem’s flashpoint Temple Mount, saying it would not allow it “at any cost,” and Gazan terror factions were set to convene to discuss a unified response to the alleged “aggressions.”

Israeli authorities vowed to stop any attempts to bring sacrificial animals to the complex, as they have in years past.

The Returning to the Mount extremist group, which advocates the construction of a third Jewish temple on the site that once housed the two biblical Temples, announced on Facebook Monday that it would be offering a cash prize to those who manage to sacrifice a lamb on the Temple Mount, and to anyone arrested trying to do so. (Read more)

5. Israel to grant tens of thousands of additional work visas to Palestinians - World Israel News

Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz said on Tuesday that he is advancing a plan to grant work permits to tens of thousands of additional Palestinians.

Currently, an estimated 100,000 Palestinians enter Israel legally to work after being screened by the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) and receiving an Israeli permit.

Gantz said that the measure would be advanced alongside ongoing intensified intelligence, as well as offensive and defensive steps currently being taken by security forces to quash the recent wave of deadly terrorism.

“We are advancing solutions that will enable the entry of tens of thousands of additional workers into Israel in an organized manner,” said Gantz, during a tour with Israel Defense Forces Deputy Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Herzi Halevi and other senior IDF commanders. (Read more)

1. Psaki slams Gov. Abbott over truck inspections at Texas-Mexico border, blames him for price increases - Fox News

The Biden administration is claiming that Texas Gov. Greg Abbott's inspection of trucks entering the U.S. from Mexico is not only "unnecessary," but contributing to inflation throughout the country. In a statement issued Wednesday morning, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said that the delays caused by Abbott's policies were having far-reaching impacts.

“Governor Abbott’s unnecessary and redundant inspections of trucks transiting ports of entry between Texas and Mexico are causing significant disruptions to the food and automobile supply chains, delaying manufacturing, impacting jobs, and raising prices for families in Texas and across the country.," Psaki said.

Last week, Abbott directed the Texas Department of Public Safety to carry out "enhanced safety inspections" of vehicles that pass through ports of entry, citing "cartels that smuggle illicit contraband and people across our southern border." Abbott is anticipating an uptick in smuggling when the Biden administration ceases expelling migrants via the Title 42 public health order. (Read more)

- Lord God, we lift the Biden administration up to you that they would stop blaming others and take responsibility for their own actions. We pray that they would seek you in all that they do and that you would give them wisdom to make better decisions for our country concerning all areas but especially our oil reserves. Amen.

- “For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.” (Proverbs 2:6)

A bus from Texas arrived in Washington, D.C. Wednesday morning, transporting dozens of illegal immigrants as part of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s new plan to counter federal immigration policies during an ongoing border crisis.

Abbott announced last week that he was directing the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to transport migrants released from federal custody in Texas to the nation’s capital and other locations outside his state.

The bus pulled up at approximately 8 a.m. local time, blocks away from the U.S. Capitol building. Fox News has learned that they came from the Del Rio sector in Texas, after coming to the U.S. from Colombia, Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela.

3. DeSantis Says State Has Enough Funding To Bus Illegal Immigrants Out Of Florida - Fox States

Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ office said Tuesday the state has enough funding to transfer illegal immigrants to locations such as Delaware and Martha’s Vineyard.

With the Florida Department of Transportation receiving $12 million in the new proposed budget, the state will have enough funding to ship illegal immigrants to Delaware, Fox News reported. DeSantis previously stated that the illegal immigrants sent to Florida will be shipped to President Joe Biden’s home state of Delaware and Martha’s Vineyard.

“The legislature delivered on this priority, along with many of the governor’s other priorities to protect Floridians from the harmful impacts of the Biden border crisis,” a spokesperson for DeSantis said. (Read more)

4. Durham probe: Judge denies Sussmann motion to dismiss case; trial to begin next month - Fox News

The federal judge presiding over the case of former Clinton campaign lawyer Michael Sussmann denied his request to dismiss the case brought against him by Special Counsel John Durham Wednesday, ordering that the trial go forward as planned next month.

Sussmann, in February, filed a motion to dismiss the case against him. Sussmann was charged with making a false statement to a federal agent, and has pleaded not guilty. In a court filing Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper outlined the charges against Sussmann brought by the Durham impaneled grand jury last year.

Cooper detailed Durham's indictment, which alleges that Sussmann told then-FBI General Counsel James Baker in September 2016, less than two months before the 2016 presidential election, that he was not doing work "for any client" when he requested and held a meeting in which he presented "purported data and 'white papers' that allegedly demonstrated a covert communications channel" between the Trump Organization and Alfa Bank, which has ties to the Kremlin. 5. Largest teachers union spent twice as much on politics as on member needs - Washington Examiner

The National Education Association , the country's largest teachers union , spent more than twice as much money on politics-related expenditures than on its membership, an analysis of the union's filings shows.

The data, compiled by the right-to-work nonprofit organization Americans for Fair Treatment, shows the teachers union donated $66 million to political activities and another $117 million to "contributions, gifts, and grants" that were primarily political donations.

The data reviewed by Americans for Fair Treatment, which was provided exclusively to the Washington Examiner, showed that the political activities donations totaled 18% of the union's $374 million budget for 2020-2021. The "contributions, gifts, and grants" totaled 32% of expenditures.
Meanwhile, only 9% of the NEA's budget was spent on direct assistance to its members, who pay an annual fee of $200 to maintain their membership in the union. (Read more)

- Lord, remind each of those who chose to be teachers of the incredible ability they have to make a difference in the life of a child, every single day. Give them a fresh vision that what they do is so important. Give them encouragement in the times when they are battling weariness or defeat. We pray that you will draw every teacher closer to you; and fill them with your Spirit each morning. Give them all that they need for each day, Lord - your grace, your calling, your compassion and love.

6. Transgender woman's op-ed regretting sex re-assignment surgery - Fox News

A transgender woman who had sex re-assignment surgery as a teenager is warning those considering a similar operation to explore the world inhabiting their body "as it is" before "permanently altering" it.

“What I wish I'd known when I was 19 and had sex re-assignment surgery," software developer Corinna Cohn expressed regret over her transition from being a man to a woman, explaining she wasn't old enough to make such a drastic decision and that it committed her "to a lifetime apart" from her peers.

"When I was 19, I had surgery for sex reassignment, or what is now called gender affirmation surgery," Cohn wrote. "In terms of my priorities and interests today, that younger incarnation of myself might as well have been a different person — yet that was the person who committed me to a lifetime set apart from my peers."

"There is much debate today about transgender treatment, especially for young people. Others might feel differently about their choices, but I know now that I wasn’t old enough to make that decision," she added. "Given the strong cultural forces today casting a benign light on these matters, I thought it might be helpful for young people, and their parents, to hear what I wish I had known." (Read more)

- Lord God, our heart‘s break for all of those who are living in confusion about who you created them to be. What’s even worse is we have those that reaffirm this confusion by influencing young people to permanently alter themselves based on their confusion. We pray for this administration, every teacher, and every parent that we would all consider the grave consequences for allowing this type of thing to go on amongst young people who are not old enough to make these kinds of decisions. Help us to be liters to lead and guide and raise young people up in the way that they should go. In Jesus name amen.

- “For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints…” 1 Corinthians 14:33

The Biden administration announced Wednesday that it is extending the nationwide mask requirement for public transit for 15 days as it monitors an uptick in COVID-19 cases.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said it was extending the order, which was set to expire on April 18, until May 3 to allow more time to study the BA.2 omicron subvariant that is now responsible for the vast majority of cases in the U.S.

“In order to assess the potential impact the rise of cases has on severe disease, including hospitalizations and deaths, and health care system capacity, the CDC order will remain in place at this time,” the agency said in a statement. (Read more)

8. Annual wholesale inflation rises 11.2%, mirroring record CPI numbers - Just The News

Wholesale prices in March increased by 11.2%, compared to 12 months earlier, the Labor Department said Wednesday. The report also show the prices increased 1.1% from February to March.

The newly released numbers follow the agency saying Tuesday the price of consumer goods in March increased by 8.5%, compared to the same time last year, making the Consumer Price Index's so-called "annualized rate" the highest since December1981.

Stupidocrisy: Plastic Gun Ban

The Daily Jot, Bill Wilson, August 13, 2022

We have a lunatic Russian toting around a satchel with the nuke code when he’s visiting nursing homes to recruit reinforcements for his attack on civilians in Ukraine, and Joe Biden is signing an executive order to ban plastic guns. You got Biden willing to hand Iran nuclear weapons on a platter—and pay them for it—but he’s banning plastic guns to stop the gun violence crisis. We have, in one of the strictest gun law states and cities in America, Chicago, where gun crime and shootings occur by the dozens every day, and Biden is focused on banning plastic guns. Totally true. You can’t make this stuff up. Would somebody pull this guy aside and tell him that plastic guns are not the problem?

Every big city in the nation is having a crime problem. But what have these cities done? In many cases they have defunded the police, tied the hands of law enforcement and, yes, essentially banned guns. Washington, DC. Chicago. New York City. Baltimore. Minneapolis. Detroit. Boston. Los Angeles. St. Louis. San Francisco. You name a big city in these states run by big time Democrats and you are going to see how well banning guns works. These places have the strictest gun laws and have the most crime committed using guns. Year after year, these liberals like Joe Biden try to convince the American public that the problem is not the criminal, but the gun the criminal uses. Read More

Le Pen upset of Macron in France could upend NATO and give Putin a boost, analysts say

With everything from the cohesion of the European Union to the strength of NATO hanging in the balance, the unexpectedly strong challenge of the far-right nationalist Marine Le Pen to the centrist President Emmanuel Macron is giving many French citizens a sense of déjà vu mixed with dread.

“The social climate in France is tense,” Mathias Bernard, political historian and president of the University of Clermont Auvergne, told Yahoo News.

In 2017, Macron trounced Le Pen in the presidential election, winning 66% of the vote to her 34%. Since then, traditional loyalties have become more starkly divided, with the urban/rural divide exacerbated by spiking energy prices. Macron and Le Pen, the winners of Sunday’s first round, which whittled down the candidates from 12 to two, will now face off on April 24.

Macron himself underscored the uncertainty of the moment, warning supporters last Sunday, when he pulled in over 27% of the vote, that “Nothing is decided.”

After traveling the country on a charm offensive during which she promised to be “the voice of the forgotten,” Le Pen pulled in more than 23% of votes in the first round — the highest ever for a far-right candidate — and told her fans on Sunday that she was confident that in the final round the French would “vote for our civilization, our culture, our language.”

Philippe Waechter, chief of economic research at Ostrum Asset Management in Paris, calls the impressive turnout for Le Pen a “wake-up call” — and not only for financial markets. He fears that a Le Pen victory would weaken the EU as a unified political institution, particularly in the face of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. “With Le Pen as president,” he told Yahoo News, “we risk that she would work with Putin more than with Europe. And in that case, the capacity of Europe to be strong and to be a real negotiator with Russia will vanish.”

What makes this election more volatile and unpredictable is that French society finds itself at a moment of heightened discontent, due to the rapid increase in the cost of living, which voters in one recent poll described as their No. 1 concern. The price of gasoline has soared to over $8 a gallon in recent weeks, electricity prices have more than tripled this winter, and inflation has exceeded 7%. (Read more)

- Father God, we give this election in France to You. We ask that You guide the voters' hands as each one chooses who will be the best leader for their nation in these difficult times. Let Your will be done, O Lord, in Your name, amen and amen.

Incoming! Excitement builds for the return of ice giants
They're huge yet silent, looming large over small villages. And when spring arrives, a feeling of anticipation overtakes this small region as hundreds flock to the shores to witness the grand parade -- a true wonder of nature.

The anticipation is almost palpable. Each year, local residents, and increasingly the tourists who have caught wind of this spectacle of nature, eagerly await the triumphant return of the monstrous icebergs.

One by one, and ever so slowly, an entire flotilla of massive chunks of ice several stories high gradually make their way near the shores of Labrador and Newfoundland, Canada, traversing the vast Atlantic Ocean as they make their trek south from Greenland.

“Newfoundland is beautiful” in so many ways, said Newfoundlander Diane Davis, “but there is nothing like cresting a hill and seeing the peak of an iceberg over a town or the next hill. In the right locations, you can spot an iceberg and still have to drive 15 kilometers (9.3 miles) to get to the coast to see it. The chase is as much fun as the view some days.”

Most years, hundreds of icebergs cleave or break off from glaciers and their one- to three-year nomadic journey begins. If the winds are favorable enough, they reach “iceberg alley,” an area of the Atlantic that roughly stretches from the coastal waters off Labrador in Canada, south along Newfoundland. Read More

'If I Shall Be Incarcerated, Then So Be It': China Church Leader Won't Stop Spreading Gospel
A leader of an illegal house church in China says he does not fear the government and will continue preaching the gospel despite engaging in activity that could land him in prison. The man, known only as Gianni for security reasons, leads a church in the city of Chengdu and has had his water and electricity shut off by police as an intimidation tactic. He also has been detained multiple times.

Despite this, Gianni told International Christian Concern that he will continue to spread the Good News."I am not afraid of the government's secret investigation," Gianni told ICC via encrypted technology. "Our faith is 'declare with your mouth and believe in your heart,' publicly testifying for Him in the name of Jesus Christ. It is neither the Church's responsibility nor does it have the capacity to counter the investigation. We are a fellowship formed by God's children, not a spy agency. [Our purpose] is so that the souls live in truth, freedom, and joy, not to make our flesh more secure."

Protestant churches in China are required to become members of the government-backed Three-Self Patriotic Movement – an action that technically makes the congregations legal but also elicits severe restrictions, such as the editing of sermons. Children also are forbidden from attending Three-Self churches. Because of this, millions of Christians – such as Gianni – worship in illegal house churches. "Since I have not lost faith, I will try to keep living my life to do the following: share the gospel with people in freedom and joy, receive new brothers and sisters and disciple train them, send preachers to plant churches," Gianni said. "If I shall be incarcerated, then so be it. Nothing will separate us from the love of Christ." (Christian Headlines) (Read more)
- Father, BLESS this man of God and many others who are BOLD in sharing the Gospel with those who have not yet heard. Place Your Hem of protection on "Gianni" and all who are risking their lives for the 'Cause of Christ'. Lord, we give You all the GLORY!-In Jesus Name-Amen

- "This is what the scriptures mean when they say, No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him."               (1 Corinthians 2:9)
Holy Week: Walking with Jesus

THURSDAY

by Anne Graham Lotz
This is Thursday. If Wednesday was a time of rest in Bethany for Jesus, Thursday was the opposite. It was an intense time as the Cross drew nearer. On Thursday, Jesus celebrated Passover, He taught His disciples, He prayed in Gethsemane, then allowed Himself to be betrayed by one of His own disciples and arrested by soldiers sent by the religious leaders. Let’s enter into Thursday.

What would it have been like for the disciples to go from the celebration of the Passover meal and the rich, full teaching of Jesus in the upper room, to the shadows of Gethsemane and the horror of seeing Jesus betrayed, arrested, and led off by an armed mob? Although Jesus had told them multiple times this would happen, the disciples had never understood. So…on Thursday night, their nightmare began.

Are you, too, living at the beginning of a nightmare? Thursday teaches us that sometimes God allows us to experience unimaginable circumstances because He is working out a greater purpose for His glory. Trust Him when you don’t understand.

Joyful Joyful We Adore Thee

Words: Henry Van Dyke
Music: Hymn to Joy, Beethoven's 9th Symphony

Scripture: My lips will shout for joy when I sing praise to You. Psalm 71:23

Lyrics:
Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee,
God of glory, Lord of love;
Hearts unfold like flowers before Thee,
Praising Thee, their sun above.
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness;
Drive the dark of doubt away;
Giver of immortal gladness,
Fill us with the light of day!

All Thy works with joy surround Thee,
Earth and heaven reflect Thy rays,
Stars and angels sing around Thee,
Center of unbroken praise:
Field and forest, vale and mountain,
Blooming meadow, flashing sea,
Chanting bird and flowing fountain
Call us to rejoice in Thee.

Thou art giving and forgiving,
Ever blessing, ever blest,
Well-spring of the joy of living,
Ocean-depth of happy rest!
Thou our Father, Christ our brother,
All who live in love are Thine:
Teach us how to love each other,
Lift us to the joy divine.

Mortals, join the mighty chorus,
Which the morning stars began;
Father-love is reigning o’er us,
Brother-love binds man to man.
Ever singing march we onward,
Victors in the midst of strife,
Joyful music leads us sunward
In the triumph song of life.
