Time to begin: 8:00 p.m. EDT Today's Top Story  US Agency Waives 26 Laws to Allow Border Wall Construction  The Biden administration, in an about-face to its previous stance, declared on Oct. 5 that there's an "immediate need" to expedite the construction of the U.S.–Mexico border wall in Starr County, Texas, in response to the rapidly growing influx of illegal immigrants. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said he waived dozens of federal regulations—26 in total—in order to fast-track the construction of roads and barriers along the southern border in Texas. The new barriers will be built within the Border Patrol's Rio Grande Valley Sector, an area designated as a "high illegal entry" zone. The construction will occur in the vicinity of the Falcon Dam, the Arroyo Morteros Tract, the Las Ruinas Tract, the Arroyo Ramirez Tract, intersections of major roads such as Perez Road and U.S. Highway 83, and various tracts within the Lower Rio Grande Valley National Wildlife Refuge. Mr. Mayorkas issued the waiver and determination on Oct. 4, citing U.S. Border Patrol figures that show that more than 245,000 migrants have illegally crossed the border at Starr County since early August. "There is presently an acute and immediate need to construct physical barriers and roads in the vicinity of the border of the United States," Mr. Mayorkas said. "Therefore, I must use my authority under section 102 of IIRIRA to install additional physical barriers and roads in the Rio Grande Valley Sector. "Therefore, DHS will take immediate action to construct barriers and roads." DHS intends to fund the construction project using appropriations allocated by Congress during the Trump administration in 2019 for the purpose of building the border wall in the Rio Grande Valley. In order to build the walls and roads to deter illegal immigration, Mr. Mayorkas determined that it necessary, under Section 102 of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 (IIRIRA), to “waive certain laws, regulations, and other legal requirements.” (Read more) Source: The Epoch Times  - Father God, as we end this week, we shout HALLELUJAH to this news! Multiple candidates are expected to be nominated but an Ohio Republican and one from Louisiana are widely considered among colleagues as the frontrunners.    House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) is promoting to his Republican colleagues a plan for rapidly moving major spending bills through the lower chamber if he is chosen as speaker of the House next week, but Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) will have something to say about that decision. Both men are long-serving congressional conservatives who enjoy wide support in the House Republican Conference, but they likely didn't expect to find themselves in 2023 as the two leading candidates to succeed Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.). Interviews with multiple House Republicans, all speaking on background, suggest at this point that if there is a favorite to succeed Mr. McCarthy in what is likely to be a one-week campaign, it's Mr. Jordan. "I think you are voting for a package when we vote for speaker, because we are in this 45-day window, and whoever we elect, the first thing you've got to do is deal with the appropriations, so when you vote, you are voting for a speaker and for an appropriations plan," a Republican House member told The Epoch Times. "The candidates are going to have to have a strong plan that the conference can get behind." "I think he's got a plan to get us to the table and get all the bills done without a threat of a shutdown," the representative said, referring to Mr. Jordan. What is the Ring of Fire? Observers of the annular solar eclipse will notice a bright ring surrounding the moon as it passes directly between the Earth and the sun. This is different from a total solar eclipse, when the moon totally blocks out the sun; for a ring of fire, the moon must be slightly more distant from the Earth than usual, causing it to appear smaller. Great. Here’s where and when to catch this year's one and only ring of fire. Those viewing from regions surrounding its path will be able to observe a partial eclipse, meanwhile. Starting at 12:12 p.m. EDT, the antumbral shadow—with a path width somewhere between 118 and 136 miles (190 and 218 kilometers)—starts in the North Pacific. It hits the Oregon coast at 12:16 p.m. EDT, before sweeping through nine states of the United States, including Oregon, California, Idaho, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. The eclipse's path reaches Texas's Gulf coast at 12:56 p.m. EDT, before crossing the Gulf of Mexico, bisecting the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico and parts of Central America, and then traversing Columbia and Brazil.
