Pastor Andrew Brunson tells WND: I wasn't ready for persecution

Missionary who suffered Turkish prison urges American Christians to prepare

The American pastor who was falsely charged by the Turkish regime of terrorism and espionage gave a frank account of his ordeal in a video interview with WND, confessing that his first year in prison "broke" him, to the point of losing his will to live."In the midst of my weakness and brokenness I had to learn to stand," he said.

After returning to the United States after 25 years in Turkey, he noticed a dramatic rise in hostility toward Christians that appears only to be increasing. And he warns American followers of Jesus they may not be as prepared as they think they are to face persecution.

"Persecution can make you stronger," he told WND in the interview embedded at the end of this article. "But it can also knock you out."

Brunson, ordained in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church denomination, was pastoring Izmir Resurrection Church near the Aegean Sea when the hardline regime of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan targeted him in the wake of the failed 2016 coup. After leveling evidence-free charges, Turkey demanded that Washington, in exchange for Brunson, hand over an exiled Turkish Muslim cleric living in the U.S. accused of masterminding the coup. Along with gaining concessions, the regime clearly wanted to use Brunson's case, the pastor said, to intimidate both foreign and Turkish Christians.

"The message is that if we can do this to an American, we can do this to anybody," he said. (WND) Read more here.

- Father God, we thank You for the heroic example of Pastor Andrew Brunson who suffered all those years in an abysmal Turkish prison, but who never denied His faith in You. May many Americans now "see the writing on the wall," as this brother has done, and begin to prepare our hearts for what surely must lie ahead. We ask that Your Grace would continue to be sufficient to us in the days ahead, no matter what may be as we repent before You for our sins. In Your Name, we offer this prayer, amen.

- But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. (2 Corinthians 12:9)
Juneteenth: A Dive into the Biblical Roots of America's Newest Federal Holiday

Juneteenth dates to the Civil War, when almost 750,000 soldiers died – either fighting for freedom or to preserve the institution of slavery. And Juneteenth was just the beginning of progress. New York Times bestselling author Dr. Jemar Tisby says knowing and acknowledging the history paints a complete picture of what freedom is in America.

"We learn about the civil rights movement, but it gets reduced to Rosa Parks and the 'I have a dream' speech and maybe the Civil Rights Act," said Tisby. "That's almost the basic idea most people have of U.S. racial history."

Tisby is an historian who told CBN News that many important race-related events have been omitted from American history – like Juneteenth. Most history books don't even mention the name, which is why he's on a mission to reeducate the public about the day freedom finally came to all Americans.

"It represents June 19th, 1865, when enslaved people in Texas first learned of their emancipation," said Dr. Tisby. "Major General Granger of the Union Army came to Texas and issued General Order #3, in that he said, 'all l enslaved people of Texas are free.'" (CBN) Read more here.

Holy One, we lift up the emancipation of all enslaved people in the United States that has been rightly celebrated since June 19, 1865.  This history in our nation should cause each one of us to reflect and repent while praying for healing and humility on both sides of this wrenching issue.  We thank You that Your church was a place of protection and covering during so many dark years.  May the church now be a place for forgiveness and reconciliation, light and hope, in these days; in Jesus name.

- "Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation."  (2 Corinthians 5:18-19)
NEW Statement From President Trump

The Dow Jones Industrial Average recently fell below 30,000…Another sign that we are headed for economic ruin.

It turns out that shutting down entire economies for 2 years, rampantly printing money, and instigating geopolitical tensions have horrible effects on the prosperity of a nation.

What’s worse is that Democrats and the Federal Reserve Bank show no signs of reversing course anytime soon—they’re doubling down on their poor policies

We don’t need corn in our cars, we need sensible public policy—not the contortions and hysterics of every bleeding-heart liberal in the country; their mental illness is not our problem…

Freaking out about a virus, or global warming, or whatever the left-wing catastrophe of the week might be, just makes the entire crisis worse.

President Trump took to Truth Social to fire back at what can rightly be called the worst administration in modern U.S. history:

Follow on Telegram @WeLoveTrumpNoah
- Father God, we thank You for Donald John Trump, who continues to serve as a voice of truth and stability in a time of chaos. Lord God, as we set our eyes upon You, the author and the finisher of our faith, let us also give thanks for the men and women whom You have set before us who, like Donald John Trump, are speaking hope and encouragement to Your people in America in this hour. Amen.

- " . . . in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." (1 Thessalonians 5:18)

In Context: Home Training
After Senators ask questions, they would do well to listen to the answers given.

By his own
account, Senator Durbin recently asked a group of young people from “gun-infested neighborhoods” in Chicago, “Tell me what I need to know as a U.S. Senator about what it means to grow up in your neighborhood.”

One young man said: “Senator, we need home training.” Asked what he meant, he elaborated, “We need parents to tell us what is right and wrong, to tell us what to do. There are no rules. The only rules I find are the rules of the gang's on the street. I know what their rules are, but I don't know what the rules are in terms of my own life.

Filtering that response through his own experience, the Senator was near incredulous that anyone could suffer from a lack of rules. He then ran the comment through one of his party's favorite filters: “Some of it reflects parents who are facing poverty, who are struggling to make ends meet.”

For some people, there's no understanding an issue outside of money. He reasoned, “Some are working two jobs just to get enough money to keep food on the table. They can't be at home and nurturing and guiding these young people as much as they should because they are struggling from paycheck to paycheck.” To him, the problem is money, and the solution is (taxpayer) money.

The young man has a better understanding of the issue than the Senator. The issue is moral: right and wrong. Rules keep us away from wrong; freedom is the ability to do right. Right is right and wrong is wrong for the poor. Right is right and wrong is wrong for the rich. Money may be a struggle at times, but money doesn't make right.

The Senator asked “what it means to grow up in your neighborhood,” and then concluded, “what life is like for too many kids in places around America” is “gun violence” and thus “the importance of doing something.” The need of which that young man spoke goes way beyond how people use or misuse firearms.

The something that Congress needs to do is stop displacing fathers and mothers from their children. The something parents need to do is not just nurture and guide, but teach right and wrong, according to the Word of God. That's essential no matter how many jobs or how much income parents have.

Father, we thank You for the understanding and clearly spoken truth from the young Chicago man to Senator Durbin. We ask You to open the ears of our leaders to the truth, to clear away filters, grids, and worldviews that are obscuring their hearing the truth You are sending them. Take away the spiritual blindness. Raise up that young man and others to speak Your truth and insist on Your eternal truth.

“You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.” (Deuteronomy 6:5-7)

While the Senate is expected to be in session this week, nothing is scheduled pending draft legislation from the gun law negotiators.

This weekend is a critical time to be in prayer for our legislators.

One policy suggested in the framework is incentivizing states to enact red flag laws to enable gun confiscation without due process of law.

This state incentivizing could be similar to that of Obama-era policies such as Medicaid expansion under ACA or Race to the Top for Common Core.

There is a significant religious liberty factor to Second Amendment-related legislation and red flag laws in particular. Supposedly they are for reducing the threat of people who are mentally ill, a concept inherently hostile to the Gospel.

What if a day comes when courts find religion to be or to be indistinguishable from mental illness or find interpreting Scripture literally to be toxic? Aggressive prosecutors could use red flag laws to disarm and render people of faith defenseless. There's a difference between being persecuted for sharing the faith and being oppressed because people in power are given too much power.

Father, we ask you to protect due process of law. May America and the States never reach a day when people are given a verdict first and trial afterwards.

“‘It is not the custom of the Romans to deliver any man to destruction before the accused meets the accusers face to face, and has opportunity to answer for himself concerning the charge against him.’” (Acts 25:16)

From the floor colloquy:
Next week, Madam Speaker, the House will consider H.R. 7666, which is titled Restoring Hope for Mental Health and Well-Being Act, a bipartisan package of bills led by Chairman Pallone and Ranking Member McMorris Rodgers, to address the mental health and opioid abuse crisis. The legislation expands access to treatment for opioid use disorders, promotes behavioral health integration, and reauthorizes critical programs to support mental health and substance use disorder, prevention, treatment, and recovery, including in our children.

Madam Speaker, the House will also consider legislation under suspension from Chairman Bobby Scott and members of the Education and Labor Committee to address the mental health, addiction, and suicide on college campuses, which is far, far too prevalent. Our young people have faced stresses by the pandemic, stresses within our Nation, the divisions on which prey on their minds, so this is a very important piece of legislation. I hope it will be—and I believe it is going to be—bipartisan.

The House will also take up H.R. 6411, the Veterans Affairs' Committee Chairman Mark Takano's STRONG Veterans Act, again, bipartisan legislation to combat veterans' suicide and address mental health, and help our Nation meet its commitment to those who risk their lives and safety for our country.

Additionally, Madam Speaker, the House will consider H.R. 5585, Representatives Eshoo's ARPA-H Act. This legislation would establish the Advanced Research Project Agency for Health, an independent agency tasked with accelerating biomedical innovation and making transformative breakthroughs in the fight against the most challenging diseases confronting our people. This agency will oversee the next steps in the Cancer Moonshot program and help meet the President's goal of cutting the cancer death rate by at least 50 percent over the next 25 years, and hopefully sooner.

Madam Speaker, as we celebrate Pride Month, the House will consider H.R. 4176, the LGBTQ Data Inclusion Act.

Madam Speaker, I anticipate that the House will vote on a compromised, bipartisan Sergeant First Class Heath Robinson Honoring Our PACT Act, after the Senate takes action on the version agreed upon in May. As the whip knows, that Act was a bipartisan act that dealt with those who were exposed to burn pits and other toxic substances of which they did not know while they were serving on bases, both here and around the world. This bill, we believe the Senate will take action on, a version agreed upon in May, which preserves much of the House-passed legislation to care for veterans exposed to burn pits and other toxic chemicals during their service.

In addition, the House will consider other bills under suspension of the rules, the complete list of suspension bills will be announced by the close of business tomorrow.

Additional legislative items are possible.

Dear Saints,

A lifestyle of REPENTANCE is so close to the heart of God.

Indeed, He commands us to
"Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!" (Matthew 3:2)

How, then, can we approach His Throne of GRACE, in repentance?

We invite you to join us every week on Sunday evening, as we explore this vital topic together. We present a different prayer focus each week, leading us into repentance, so that we might approach His Throne of Grace in repentance, presenting ourselves to Him as a pure and a spotless Bride, without spot or wrinkle. (Ephesians 5:27)

Praying together, we desire to fulfill the mandate of Psalm 139:

" Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; 24 And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting." (Psalm 139:24)

You can join us, any Sunday evening, at 10:00 p.m. EST by calling:

712-770-5350

WELCOME!

". . . and if My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

"Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to the prayer offered in this place."
(2 Chronicles 7:14,15)

To the extent that our nation is heading into a critical time, and to the extent that CHPP is an effective ministry before the Lord, we ask your prayers for protection of this ministry and all those involved.

We have an enemy that seeks to destroy and devour especially those that are effective against evil.

“Now I beg you, brethren, through the Lord Jesus Christ, and through the love of the Spirit, that you strive together with me in prayers to God for me, • that I may be delivered from those in Judea who do not believe, and • that my service for Jerusalem may be acceptable to the saints, • that I may come to you with joy by the will of God, and • may be refreshed together with you. Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen.” (Romans 15:30-33)
