Statement by President Trump

Statement by President Trump:

On the death of George Floyd

PRESIDENT TRUMP: "It's very important, I believe, to the family, to everybody that the memory of George Floyd be a perfect memory, let it be a perfect memory. The looters should not be allowed to drown out the voices of so many peaceful protesters. They hurt so badly what is happening and it's so bad for the state and for that great city. So we are working very closely with the Justice Department, we're working with local law enforcement, we're working with everybody and we're speaking with the family and hopefully everything can be fairly taken care of.

I understand the hurt. I understand the pain. People have really been through a lot. The family of George is entitled to justice and the people of Minnesota are entitled to live in safety. Law and order will prevail. The Americans will honor the memory of George and the Floyd family. It's very important to us. It's very important to me to see that everything is taken care of properly. It's a horrible, horrible situation, and so we'll be reporting back in due course and as quickly as possible."

> > > To view his remarks on video, please go here.

- Lord God, we lift up President Trump today as he is grappling with the violence that has erupted across our nation. We ask that You grant him, the governors, the mayors, and all who are authority with strategies "from above," that they may know Your will and Your way in order to combat this plague. In Your name, amen.

- "I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go. I will guide you with My eye upon you." (Psalm 32:8)

About George Floyd

George Floyd Left a Gospel Legacy in Houston

The rest of the country knows George Floyd from several minutes of cell phone footage captured during his final hours. But in Houston's Third Ward, they know Floyd for how he lived for decades-a mentor to a generation of young men and a "person of peace" ushering ministries into the area.

Before moving to Minneapolis for a job opportunity through a Christian work program, the 46-year-old spent almost his entire life in the historically black Third Ward, where he was called "Big Floyd" and regarded as an "OG," a de-facto community leader and elder statesmen, his ministry partners say.

Floyd spoke of breaking the cycle of violence he saw among young people and used his influence to bring outside ministries to the area to do discipleship and outreach, particularly in the Cuney Homes housing project, locally known as "the Bricks."

"George Floyd was a person of peace sent from the Lord that helped the gospel go forward in a place that I never lived in," said Patrick PT Ngwolo, pastor of Resurrection Houston, which held services at Cuney.

"The platform for us to reach that neighborhood and the hundreds of people we reached through that time and up to now was built on the backs of people like Floyd," he told Christianity Today.

Ngwolo and fellow leaders met Floyd in 2010. He was a towering 6-foot-6 guest who showed up at a benefit concert they put on for the Third Ward. From the start, Big Floyd made his priorities clear.

"He said, 'I love what you're doing. The neighborhood need it, the community need it, and if y'all about God's business, then that's my business,'" said Corey Paul Davis, a Christian hip-hop artist who attended Resurrection Houston. "He said, 'Whatever y'all need, wherever y'all need to go, tell 'em Floyd said y'all good. I got y'all.'"

The church expanded its involvement in the area, holding Bible studies and helping out with groceries and rides to doctor's appointments. Floyd didn't just provide access and protection; he lent a helping hand as the church put on services, three-on-three basketball tournaments, barbecues, and community baptisms.

"He helped push the baptism tub over, understanding that people were going to make a decision of faith and get baptized right there in the middle of the projects. He thought that was amazing," said Ronnie Lillard, who performs under the name Reconcile. "The things that he would say to young men always referenced that God trumps street culture. I think he wanted to see young men put guns down and have Jesus instead of the streets."

- Father God, today we honor the life of George Floyd, and we ask the You comfort his family and his friends as they mourn his loss. We repent for the tragic way that he was killed, and we cry out for justice to be done in its wake. Lord God, comfort Your people, we pray, amen and amen.

- "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted." (Matthew 5:4)

Protests Erupt Across the Nation

Thousands ignore Minneapolis curfew as U.S. protests spread

MINNEAPOLIS - Thousands of protesters ignored a curfew and vows of a forceful police response to take to the Minneapolis streets for a fourth straight night, as the anger stoked by the police killing of George Floyd spread to more cities across the U.S.

The Pentagon on Saturday ordered the Army to put military police units on alert to head to the city on short notice at President Donald Trump's request, according to three people with direct knowledge of the orders who did not want their names used because they were not authorized to discuss the preparations. The rare step came as the violence spread to other cities: a man shot dead in Detroit, police cars battered in Atlanta and skirmishes with police in New York City.

Criminal charges filed Friday morning against the white officer who held his knee for nearly nine minutes on the neck of Floyd, a black man, did nothing to stem the anger. Derek Chauvin, 44, was charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.

Minneapolis police said shots had been fired at law enforcement officers during the protests but no one was injured.

As the night dragged on, fires erupted across the city's south side, including at a Japanese restaurant, a Wells Fargo bank and an Office Depot. Many burned for hours, with firefighters again delayed in reaching them because areas weren't secure.

Shortly before midnight, scores of officers on foot and in vehicles moved in to curb the violence, one day after city and state leaders faced blowback for their handling of the crisis. On Thursday, protesters had torched a police station soon after it was abandoned by police and went on to burn or vandalize dozens of businesses.

Protests nationwide have been fueled by outrage over Floyd's death and years of police violence against African Americans. Protesters smashed windows at CNN headquarters in Atlanta, set a police car on fire and struck officers with bottles. Large demonstrations in New York, Houston, Washington, D.C., and dozens of other cities ranged from people peacefully blocking roads to repeated clashes with police.

"You are disgracing our city," Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms told protesters. "You are disgracing the life of George Floyd and every other person who has been killed in this country." (POLITCO)

- Father God, today we CRY OUT for righteousness and justice to be swift and true to Your Word. So many innocent lives are hurt and at a loss. Oh, Father, please reach down and do what only You can do . . . flood our Nation with Your gift of conviction and Repentance and set free the festering hurting people. Lord please bring swift justice and Your righteousness to our Nation and forgive all of us of even unrecognized thoughts and attitudes. Chafe is oh Lord that You may be gloried. In Jesus Name of Grace and Healing Mercy, amen.

- "But let justice roll down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream." (Amos 5:24)

OMB Director Hearings

As highlighted in the Senate Committees section below, next week there are two important hearings on the nomination of Russ Vought to be Director of the Office of Managemeent and Budget (OMB), one on Tuesday and one on Wednesday.

Vought has been before a Senate committee before, and the last time, he was subjected to an unconstitutional religious test by Sen. Bernie Sanders over past writing.

To get an idea of who is coming before the Senate, it's helpful to read his original writing on theological clarity that became the issue.

Our beliefs are relevant to our approach to government. Please pray that Russ Vought would be able to • quench all the fiery darts of the wicked, and that he would • stand strong for God-honoring principles of public policy including government spending and restraint thereon.

“Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.” (Ephesians 6:16)

House Floor Schedule

From the floor colloquy:

Madam Speaker, as we face the crisis that COVID-19 has confronted us with, the House must do its duty in full and do so in a way that contributes to the safety and welfare of our people, not in a way that harms it.

Members are advised there will be no votes expected in the House next week. Members are further advised that an updated 2020 legislative calendar will be released in the coming days.

I expect conversations to continue on additional legislation addressing COVID-19 and the legislation we passed honoring our heroes. In the event that an agreement is reached on a bipartisan or partisan bill-I don't know how an agreement can be reached on a partisan bill, but a bipartisan bill-then we will make sure that the House has 72 hours before they need to come back to vote on that legislation. …

I am pleased the House has adopted a resolution to allow the committees to work remotely, Madam Speaker. I expect to use the coming weeks to get our committees back up and running so that they can begin having hearings and markups on critical legislation.

As my friend, Mr. Scalise, knows, we have a number of must-pass bills that need to be addressed; the National Defense Authorization Act, the 12 appropriation bills, the surface transportation bill, and the WRDA bill as well. As committees begin consideration of these bills, I will be in touch with Members about when they will be scheduled this summer.

Operation Restoration

BULLETIN!! PLEASE NOTE OUR NEW NUMBER AND ACCESS CODE:
712-770-5350
150411#

Once each week, on Sunday mornings and for 24 hours, join with others in OPERATION RESTORATION . . .

"Operation Restoration"

This initiative is based upon the Move of the Spirit that was launched last month during Operation Refiner's Fire. The LORD has shown us that He has used those fires to ignite the FIRE of the HOLY SPIRIT to visit our people, which He now yearns to keep burning among our people until the day of His return!

"Operation Restoration" is based on the promise of Scripture, recorded in
2 Chronicles 7:14,15.

It is written:

. . . "and if My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

"Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to the prayer offered in this place."

This is a weekly Solemn Assembly, where saints can feel free to gather each Sunday, to offer prayers of repentance before our Lord, for the many sins our nation has committed before Him.

Abba so desires to hear our prayers . . . He is just waiting to heal us!

You can join us, any Sunday, beginning at 9:00 a.m. EST by calling:

712-770-5350
Access Code: 150411#

Each week, our conference line for Operation Restoration will remain open until Monday morning at 9:00 a.m.EST -- allowing for 24 hours of nonstop prayer before our King of Kings, that He might, indeed, "heal our land." Amen.
