GOP states ramp up legal battles
against Biden's immigration policies
|
|
The Biden administration has rolled back a number of key Trump-era immigration policies
As the Biden administration has been working rapidly to undo key Trump-era border and immigration policies and replace them with more liberal policies, Republican state attorneys general have been working just as hard to push back against what they see as illegal actions that could hurt Americans and put them in danger.
"As attorney general I have certain tools in my toolbox, and I have said I am going to do everything I can to enforce the rule of law and to protect hard-working American taxpayers," Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich said in an interview with Fox News.
Arizona currently has multiple lanes of litigation it is pursuing on both legal and illegal immigration. One of those is a lawsuit, with Missouri, over the administration's narrowed interior enforcement guidelines for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
That guidance, issued in February, narrows enforcement priorities to recent border crossers, national security threats and "aggravated felons." While those outside of those categories are not ruled out from arrest or deportation, agents need pre-approval from superiors to arrest them. Read more

- Lord God, we thank You that, according to our Constitution, it is WE THE PEOPLE that hold the power to govern our land, and not that of a tyrannical form of
centralized government, housed in Washington, D.C. As such, we thank You that it is the Attorneys General, acting in tandem with the governors of our States,
that then wield this authority in each of our states.
We thank You for the example being set by Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich, to bring immigration policy under control, and we ask that all other Attorneys
General in the other 49 states would follow suit. In Your Name we offer this prayer, amen and amen.
- "You will make your prayer to Him,
He will hear you,
And you will pay your vows.
28 You will also declare a thing,
And it will be established for you;
So light will shine on your ways."
(Job 22:28)

1. In scathing statement, Bennett slams Netanyahu for ‘weakness’ on security issues - World Israel News
After refraining from speaking publicly on political matters during Operation Guardian of the Walls, Yemina chair Naftali Bennett took to Facebook to slam Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government.
“I do not remember such a period of weakness, dysfunction and national embarrassment,” wrote the former defense minister. “It’s not a coincidence that the enemy is raising its head now…when the enemy recognizes weakness, it attacks.”
He said the state’s deterrence against terrorists was at the “lowest point” in Israel’s history, citing “terrorists shooting at residents of Lod, Acre, Beer Sheva and Galilee” and “humiliated police officers on the Temple Mount, Hamas victory celebrations in Gaza and in Israeli cities.”
Bennett wrote that on Netanyahu’s watch, the personal security of Israelis had “deteriorated to an unbearable degree,” thanks to the premier’s “appointing of mediocre people, who in turn appoint mediocre people.” (Read more)

2. Bennett, Lapid prime minister rotation back on the table - Jerusalem Post
Yesh Atid leader Yair Lapid's offer to Yamina chairman Naftali Bennett to go first in a rotation replacing Benjamin Netanyahu as prime minister returned to the forefront on Sunday, as sources in the two parties said they expected an agreement to be finalized by the end of the week.
Bennett withdrew his support for a government of change on May 13. But The Jerusalem Post reported exclusively two days later that it was just a tactical maneuver to ease pressure on the party's leaders during Operation Guardian of the Walls and that Bennett would return ahead of the June 2 deadline for Lapid to form a government.
Negotiating teams of Likud and Yamina met over the weekend. The Likud's offer to Bennett was to serve as defense minister after Netanyahu announced two weeks earlier that he had offered Bennett to go first in a rotation in the Prime Minister's Office. The Likud also rescinded its previous offer to Bennett's number two, MK Ayelet Shaked, to serve as foreign minister in a Likud-led government. (Read more)

3. Yamina signaling that coalition deal with Yesh Atid is still possible – report - Times of Israel
Despite party leader Naftali Bennett last week backing away from efforts to form a government that would replace Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Yamina is signaling that a coalition deal with Yesh Atid is not fully off the table, Channel 13 news reported Friday.
The mandate of Yesh Atid’s Yair Lapid to form a government ends on June 2. He and Yamina chief Bennett were on the verge of clinching a coalition deal with the support of the Islamist Ra’am party when the fighting with Gaza terror groups broke out, leading Ra’am chief Mansour Abbas to back out and Bennett to later declare that the option was no longer viable.
The unsourced Channel 13 report said that members of the change bloc were acting very cautiously to ascertain Bennett’s position, amid concerns the Yamina head was using the situation to try to increase his demands in negotiations with Netanyahu. (Read more)

4. Gantz: We are still targeting Yahya Sinwar and Mohammed Deif - Israel National News
Defense Minister Benny Gantz (Blue and White) has clarified that Israel will not allow "drizzles" of rockets or incendiary or explosive balloons following the end of Operation Guardian of the Walls.
In an interview with Kan's Yaron Deckel and Roy Sharon, Gantz emphasized that Hamas leaders Yahya Sinwar and Mohammed Deif are still targets. When asked if his close cooperation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would lead the two to form a government together, he answered, "No."
"Gaza is not going anywhere, and we certainly are not going anywhere," Gantz said in the interview. "I intend that the IDF's response policy should be even harsher, so that we can try as much as possible to distance it so that it will not happen. If they challenge us, we will continue to fight." 5. Los Angeles Mayor Calls Attack on Diners ‘Anti-Semitic’ - NY Times
Local officials and Jewish leaders in Los Angeles on Thursday condemned an attack against Jewish diners outside a sushi restaurant this week that the Los Angeles Police Department has said it was investigating as an anti-Semitic hate crime.
“We have to recognize this for what it is: It’s anti-Jewish and anti-Semitic,” Mayor Eric Garcetti said in an interview. “You have to be specific and say what it is.”
Mr. Garcetti said he was confident about the city’s investigation into the attack, and hoped to announce progress within the next several days.
In a video capturing part of the episode, multiple cars proceed slowly down the busy street in front of the restaurant, which is near several synagogues and Jewish schools. A man with a megaphone shouts slogans like “Israel kills children” from one of the cars, before multiple men leave their vehicles to confront diners on the sidewalk outside the restaurant. A fight breaks out, and one man swings a heavy stanchion at the attackers. At least one person was injured. (Read more)

1. 'Simply unacceptable': New York police investigate 6 synagogue attacks in 3 days as possible hate crimes - USA Today
A string of attacks that targeted synagogues across New York City over the weekend are being investigated as possible hate crimes, authorities said.
The six attacks from Friday to Sunday at Bronx-area synagogues are being investigated by the New York Police Department's Hate Crimes Task Force. Surveillance footage released by police appears to show the same man may have been involved in several of the attacks and police are seeking him for questioning.
Two of the New York City synagogue attacks happened Friday, three on Saturday and another on Sunday, NYPD Detective Denise Moroney said. Each happened late in the evening or in the early morning hours.
In each incident, police say a man broke windows at the synagogues. He was captured on surveillance footage wearing dark-colored clothing and hurling rocks at windows in at least one of the attacks. (Read more)

2. Biden insists that 'my party still supports Israel' - Fox News
President Biden said that there has been "no shift" in his commitment to Israel and that the Democratic Party still supports the Jewish state, despite heated and sometimes vitriolic criticism of Israel over the past ten days by progressives.
Biden was asked in a news conference Friday with South Korean President Moon Jae-In what his "message to Democrats who want you to be more confrontational with Israel."
"My party still supports Israel," Biden said. "Until the region says unequivocally they acknowledge the right of Israel to exist as an independent Jewish state, there will be no peace."
He again called for a two-state solution in the region. "There is no shift in my commitment to the security of Israel. Period. No shift, not at all. But I'll tell you what there is a shift in. The shift is that, we still need a two-state solution. It is the only answer. The only answer."
Press secretary Jen Psaki had offered a similar sentiment hours earlier. She said the White House has "no plans" to alter security assistance to Israel, as progressives came down hard against a $735 million arms sale to the Jewish state and the billions allotted in foreign aid each year.
Biden recently approved the arms sale to Israel. He has repeatedly stressed Israel’s right to defend itself and reiterated that Hamas is a terrorist organization. But he has also pressured Israel to accept a cease-fire. (Read more)

3. Biden announces new 'special envoy' to North Korea in joint press conference with South's president - Washington Examiner
President Joe Biden announced Friday that Ambassador Sung Kim will serve as the United States's special envoy to North Korea.
Kim, a career diplomat, previously served as Biden's ambassador to Indonesia and was recognized directly by the president during his Friday press conference with South Korean President Moon Jae-in.
"The Republic of Korea and the United States are both built on innovation, and we must both meet the challenges facing us today and look to what is possible for tomorrow," Biden noted at the top of his remarks. "Our partnership is grounded on our ironclad commitment to share security."
He noted that the U.S. consulted closely with Moon's administration while conducting its monthslong North Korea policy review and added: "We both are deeply concerned about the situation."
"Our two nations also share a willingness to engage diplomatically with the DPRK to take pragmatic steps that will reduce tensions as we move toward our ultimate goal of denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula," Biden continued. "Today, I confirmed to President Moon that the United States will proceed in close consultation with the Republic of Korea in our strategy and our approach." (Read more)

4. US appeasement of Iran, misconceptions over facts linger in wake of Israel-Gaza conflict - JNS News
The conflict in Gaza over the last two weeks highlighted a number of misperceptions and emerging trends between the United States and Israel. While the Biden administration largely supported Israel’s right to defend itself, it became clear as the conflict wore on that impatience was growing in America, largely among Democrats, over both U.S. support for Israel and the proportional use of force in the Gaza Strip.
At the same time, the conflict also came amid negotiations between Iran and world powers over a nuclear deal, as the Biden administration has made it a priority to re-enter the 2015 deal, officially called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Experts say the role of Iran behind the conflict, as well as Hamas’s own bid for dominance in the Palestinian arena, cannot be overlooked.
Michael Doran, a senior fellow at the Hudson Institute, told JNS that “from a strategic point of view, both Washington and Jerusalem should frame the Gaza conflict as an attack on the American security system in the Middle East.” Unfortunately,” he said, “the Biden administration is appeasing Iran, most notably at the negotiating tables in Vienna, where the Americans seek to coax Tehran back to the JCPOA.”
“The appeasement on the nuclear question leads to appeasement across the region,” said Doran, adding that the Biden administration “cannot acknowledge the role that Iran is playing in Gaza because if it does, it will be asked to leave the negotiating table in Vienna.”
Doran noted that it is a well-known, documented fact that rockets and missiles produced and obtained by Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad are funded by Iran. “These terror groups openly acknowledge their strategic connection to the Quds Force for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps,” he said. 5. Trump’s 1776 Commission to Reassemble, Tackle Critical Race Theory in History Education - The Epoch Times
Members of the 1776 Commission, which President Joe Biden disbanded on his first day in White House, are reportedly set to meet again with a renewed focus on combating the teaching of U.S. history based on the Marxist critical race theory.
The advisory commission was established by the Trump administration in November 2020 to celebrate and promote the principles enshrined in the nation’s founding documents. It is commonly seen as a response to The New York Times’ controversial 1619 Project, which argues that the United States was founded as, and remains today, a racist nation.
Nearly four months after its dissolution, the commission regained attention when a leading member spoke against a Biden administration’s proposal to prioritize funding education programs that promote the 1619 Project and critical race theory, an ideology rooted in Marxist class struggle but with an emphasis on race, with the goal of dismantling all institutions of American society, which it deems as tools of racial oppression.
“The Proposed Rule should be withdrawn, just as individual states, which actually have the authority over the nation’s K-12 educational system, should oppose race-based pedagogy as part of their curricula and even if attempted to be imposed by the federal government,” Matthew Spalding, the executive director of the 1776 Commission, wrote in a letter to the Education Department.
“On behalf of my fellow Commissioners, I submit and draw your attention to Appendix III of The 1776 Report,” Spalding added. The appendix explains why race-focused narratives like the 1619 Project and critical race theory are “fundamentally incompatible” with the principles of the Declaration of Independence, which connects liberty-loving Americans everywhere regardless of their race. (Read more)
- Heavenly Father, we pray that You will anoint Donald Trump with your omniscient power as he reassembles the 1776 Commission and all Critical Race Theory in History Education. Energize his efforts to reinstate all the truth of our American history teaching. We pray in Jesus' Name.
- "O love the Lord, all you His saints: for the Lord preserves the faithful, and plentifully rewards the proud doer." (Psalm 31:23)

6. Texas Senate Passes Bill That Bans Critical Race Theory From Classrooms - The Epoch Times
The Texas state Senate passed a bill Saturday that prohibits schools from mandating the teaching of critical race theory (CRT).
House Bill 3979 doesn’t mention CRT by name, but apparently aims to ban the controversial quasi-Marxist ideology in public and open-enrollment charter schools.
According to the bill text, teachers, administrators, or employees from state agencies, school districts, and open-enrollment charter schools are prohibited from teaching students that one race is inherently superior to another race or sex or that an individual is inherently racist, sexist, or oppressive, by virtue of his or her race or sex.
A teacher “may not [be] compelled to discuss current events or widely debated and currently controversial issues of public policy or social affairs” in social studies curriculum in Texas history, U.S. history, world history, government, civics, social studies, or similar subjects, according to the bill.
If teachers choose to discuss the above topics, they must explore those topics from diverse and contending perspectives and can’t give deference to any one perspective.
The bill also requires the State Board of Education to adopt civic education to help students’ understanding of the moral, political, and intellectual foundations of the American, U.S. history and tradition, and the founding documents of the United States. (Read more)
- Father God, we thank You for this move by the Texas State Senate, and we shout HALLELUJAH upon hearing this news! We ask that more and more of our citizens across this great nation would be awakened to the danger that this CRT curriculum poses to our children: the complete brainwashing of the next generation. This wicked agenda causes them to deny our Judeo-Christian Heritage, calling our nation "racist" instead. Save us, O Lord, we pray, and please bless the citizens of the great state of Texas, in Your Name amen and amen.
- "Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the LORD!" (Ps. 150:6)

7. Biden hails Asian hate-crimes bill but ignores true cause - WND
President Biden on Thursday pounded his podium as he decried crimes targeting Asian Americans before signing a hate-crimes bill crafted in response to a reported rise in violence against Asian Americans during the coronavirus pandemic.
Biden and fellow Democrats have contended the rise is linked to former President Donald Trump's branding of COVID-19 as the "China virus." The bill gained momentum after the shooting of eight massage-parlor workers in Atlanta, six of whom were Asian.
But crime data and the many incidents captured on closed-circuit cameras or by bystanders tell a story that establishment media and politicians are unwilling to confront: Most of the perpetrators are not Trump-supporting white supremacists. They are black people . . .
Biden called the history of mistreatment against the "AAPI community" – Asian American and Pacific Islander – "un-American." "Silence is complicity. And we cannot be complicit. We have to speak out. We have to act," he said. "That's what you've done," he said, addressing members of Congress. "And I can't thank you enough. I'm proud today."
The legislation aims to expedite the review of hate crimes believed to be related to the pandemic and grant federal funds to local law enforcement to improve reporting of bias-driven incidents. The Justice Department is to designate a point person to assist with the expedited review of COVID-19 hate crimes and expand "linguistically appropriate" public education campaigns.
The House passed the bill Tuesday 364-62 after the Senate passed it last month, 94-1. (Read more)

- Father, while the bill sounds good and we definitely want protection for the Asian community, we recognize Josh Hawley's point that the bill gives the Federal Government control over deciding on what constitutes speech as hate or otherwise. May we construct laws to protect, but will limit the power of the government over the people.
- Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position. (2 Peter 3:17)

8. Josh Hawley Explains Why He Was Sole Vote Against Anti-Asian Hate Crime Bill - Newsweek
Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) took to social media on Thursday to explain why he was the only senator to vote against a bill aimed at combatting hate crimes against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. The bill, called the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act, passed the Senate with overwhelming bipartisan support in a 94-1 vote. Its lead sponsor Senator Mazie Hirono (D-HI), who was the first Asian American woman elected to the Senate, said the passage showed the Senate "rejects anti-Asian hate."
Hawley took to Twitter to explain his vote, after being the lone holdout opposing passage through the upper chamber. "My big problem with Sen Hirono's bill that Senate voted on today is that it turns the federal government into the speech police - gives government sweeping authority to decide what counts as offensive speech and then monitor it," Hawley wrote. "Raises big free speech questions."
In a previous statement, he said: "It's too broad. As a former prosecutor, my view is it's dangerous to simply give the federal government open-ended authority to define a whole new class of federal hate crime incidents." (Read more)

- Thank you, Lord for Josh Hawley and being brave to discern what this bill would do to give the Federal Government control. May more of our elected officials be brave enough to do what is right!

9. Breaking: Georgia Judge Calls for Forensic Audit of Fulton County Ballots After Large Discrepancies Found in Ballot Batches - The Gateway Pundit
Henry County, Georgia Chief Judge Brian J. Amero ordered Fulton County ballots unsealed in a hearing on Friday. The judge ordered the parties to appear at the ballot storage location at 10 AM on May 28th. The November 2020 ballots will be scanned at 600 dpi or higher.
In an ongoing hearing, Henry County, GA judge, the Honorable Brian J. Amero may give access to the plaintiffs (VoterGA.org, Garland Favorito, and another plaintiff) to the physical mail-in ballots in Fulton County, which could show massive election fraud in GA during the 2020 presidential election cycle, and the follow-on runoff that decided control of the U.S. Senate for the Democrat Party, leading to full control of the American government.
In the hearing, lawyers for VoterGA.org described large discrepancies (21%) between the number of ballot batches reported by the GA Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger who certified the election, and the number of ballot batches actually provided by court-ordered access in the previous April hearing in the case.
VoterGA.org has been examining the ballot images at a low resolution since the hearing in April, and declared they need the actual physical ballots to understand the number of counterfeit ballots certified. (Read more)

10. Commanding officer dictates 'religious beliefs' to military chaplain - WND
A military officer has decided, for a chaplain under his command, what his "religious beliefs" must be, a decision that is being challenged by First Liberty Institute as "wildly inappropriate and offensive."
The problem developed when a news "report" described how Joe Biden was planning to drop President Trump's "military transgender ban."
Chaplain Andrew Calvert then, while the ban still was the military's policy and practice, wrote on his own social media account, which explained it was not representative of the Department of Defense, questions about the proposed change.
He also endorsed the then-existing DOD policy.
Several individuals who were not identified complained about Calvert's statement of his religious beliefs, and the military then issued a reprimand to him, in a General Officer Memorandum of Reprimand..
First Liberty explained its appeal of the punishment for the chaplain.
"Chaplain Calvert's post, made from his personal Facebook account that clearly disclaimed any official endorsement, argued that scientific evidence supported the DOD policy at that time. As a Christian minister, Chaplain Calvert felt compelled to comment by his sincerely held religious beliefs. Nevertheless, the Army concluded that Chaplain Calvert's comments constituted unlawful discrimination. Taking adverse action against any chaplain because of their expressed religious belief violates federal and military law. Meanwhile, Chaplain Calvert's unit is deprived of its only chaplain because the Army suspended him," the institute explained.
. .
The letter requests that the reprimand be withdrawn. "Should you refuse to do so, we are prepared to take all necessary legal action to vindicate Chaplain Calvert's rights." (Read more)

- Father, we pray favor upon this chaplain. May this suspension be reversed and his job restored.

11. Trump announces return of his signature rallies, names 1st 3 states - WND
Former President Donald Trump is preparing to relaunch his popular large-scale rallies in key battleground states this summer as he continues to fuel speculation regarding a 2024 comeback presidential run. "We'll be doing one in Florida, we're going to do one in Ohio, we're going to do one in North Carolina," Trump said during an interview that aired Thursday on One America News, according to CNN. "We'll be announcing them very soon over the next week or two," the former president added.
Trump will also be making an appearance at the North Carolina Republican Party's 2021 state convention next month.
With a series of new events, Trump could build strong momentum for a presidential comeback bid. The rallies will also likely highlight key midterm battles in the House and Senate.
Texas Republic Rep. Dan Crenshaw said he believes Trump will continue to hold sway over the GOP while warning anti-Trump Republicans to avoid pushing away the former president. "I believe that you're not going to excommunicate a former president and I refuse to go into this sort of black and white thinking…these are complex human relationships that involve millions of people," Crenshaw has said, according to the Daily Mail. Congo volcano eruption, ensuing chaos kill at least 15
|
|
GOMA, Congo — Torrents of lava poured into villages after dark in eastern Congo with little warning, leaving at least 15 people dead amid the chaos and destroying more than 500 homes, officials and survivors said Sunday.
The eruption of Mount Nyiragongo on Saturday night sent about 5,000 people fleeing from the city of Goma across the nearby border into Rwanda, while another 25,000 others sought refuge to the northwest in Sake, the U.N. children’s agency said Sunday.
More than 170 children were still feared missing Sunday and UNICEF officials said they were organizing transit centers to help unaccompanied children in the wake of the disaster.
Goma ultimately was largely spared the mass destruction it suffered the last time the volcano erupted back in 2002. Hundreds died then and more than 100,000 people were left homeless. But in outlying villages closer to the volcano, Sunday was marked by grief and uncertainty. Read More

Family Praised for their Honesty After Finding and Returning Bags Containing $1M in Cash.
|
|
A Virginia family is being praised for their extraordinary honesty after they found—and returned—one million dollars in cash.
Earlier this week, schoolteacher Emily Schantz and her family had been out on a weekend drive through Caroline County when they saw the car ahead of them swerve to avoid hitting a large bag in the road.
Although the Schantzes were unable to swerve around the object in time, they did pull over to the side of the road so they could move it out of the way. Assuming it was trash, they grabbed abandoned two bags off of the pavement and threw them into the trunk.
It was only later that the Schantzes opened up the sacks and found dozens of plastic packages filled with stacks of cash. Rather than keep the money for themselves, however, Emily and her husband turned it all into the police with the hopes of teaching their sons a valuable lesson in honesty.
Police investigators believe that the postal service had been delivering the bags to a local bank, but it is still a mystery as to how they ended up in the middle of the road—all they know is that the Schantzes deserved praise for their good deed. (Good News Network) Read more here.

About Capitol Hill Prayer Partners
|
|
|
Our Mission Statement
Capitol Hill Prayer Partners (CHPP) is a ministry which is positioned on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., helping members of the Body of Christ to "pray for those in authority over us" in our federal government. Our primary purpose is to offer intercession on site for the members of Congress and their staffs each day that the Senate and the House of Representatives are in session; and our chief prayer focus is that "God's will be done in earth, as it is in heaven." [Matthew 6:10].
Because Jesus Christ has shed His blood for all, we, too, pray for ALL, in a nonpartisan manner. Also, because the scriptures indicate that "the effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much" (James 4:17), we are confident that fervent prayer, offered in the halls of the highest chambers of government in our land, can avail much for America. Capitol Hill Prayer Partners welcomes those who feel called to join us, engaging in this strategic work of intercession for our nation: "For there is no power but of God; the powers that be are ordained of God."
