Miami condo collapse: Woman told husband on phone she saw pool cave in before building fell, report says
|

Cassie Stratton, 40, among those still unaccounted for Monday
A woman missing in the deadly Florida condo building collapse called her husband as the tragedy unfolded — and said she saw a sinkhole where the pool used to be before the line went dead, according to a new report.
"It was 1:30 a.m., I’ll never, never forget that," Mike Stratton, husband of Cassie Stratton, 40, told the Miami Herald.
The model, actress and Pilates instructor woke her husband in Washington, D.C. and frantically told him that their building was shaking before making the startling comments about a sinkhole, according to the outlet.
The Washington Post reported that Stratton was on her fourth-floor balcony when she felt a tremor and saw the pool deck cave in. A structural engineer who inspected the tower last year told CNN that what Stratton saw "definitely" could have been a factor in the catastrophic collapse. Jason Borden told the network that if the pool deck or structural slab near the building failed or was compromised, "it could have contributed to the end result."
Mike Stratton, a 66-year-old Democratic political strategist, last saw his wife on June 21 before he left on a business trip to DC, the Herald reported. The senior policy adviser with the law firm Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck who splits his time between Denver, DC and Miami, said he and his wife had lived at Champlain Towers South Condo in Surfside for about four years.
Mike said his wife, originally from New Orleans, has so many friends that he jokingly coined the phrase "everybody loves Cassie" several years ago. "She was the most fun, vivacious person you could ever imagine," he told the paper, his voice cracking with emotion. "She was full of life, we were always doing something. There are so many interesting places to go in Miami and we took it all in." (Fox News) Read more.

1. Pro-Palestinian hackers steal info on hundreds of thousands of Israeli students - Times of Israel
Pro-Palestinian hackers have stolen the personal information of hundreds of thousands of Israeli students and have begun leaking it online, including names, phone numbers, e-mail addresses, and home addresses.
The cyberattack was announced by a group calling itself DragonForce Malaysia in a post to its website. In a message posted to a forum on the site, the group called on hackers, human rights organizations, and activists to campaign against Israel, which it repeatedly referred to as “Israhell.”
Student details were at first shared on Malaysian groups using the Telegram app.
The hackers tied the leak to Israel’s recent 11 days of fighting with terror groups in the Gaza Strip.
Malaysian hackers behind the data breach apparently scooped information from the website of AcadeMe, one of the largest recruitment networks in the country for students and graduates seeking work. AcadeMe works with leading higher education institutes including Ben Gurion University of the Negev, Tel Aviv University, the Open University, Bar-Ilan University, the Technion, and the University of Haifa as well as many colleges. 2. New semi-autonomous robot to be deployed to Gaza border - Jerusalem Post
The IDF’s Gaza division will soon deploy a new semi-autonomous robotic ground vehicle called the Jaguar along the border with the Gaza Strip, replacing soldiers along the border where they could be targets by Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
Developed over the past year and half by Israel Aerospace Industries in close cooperation with the technological department of the IDF’s Ground Forces Command, it is currently being integrated into the Gaza division.
The Jaguar is equipped with dozens of sensors, an automated driving system, and advanced fire capabilities.
Based on a six-wheeled chassis, it is equipped with a 7.62mm MAG machine gun that can be operated remotely against suspicious objects or people, both while stationary or on the move. (Read more)

3. Lapid, Blinken work to ‘reset’ Israeli-US ties in jab at Netanyahu’s ‘mistakes’ - World Israel News
Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid and U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken held their first meeting in Rome Sunday in what many are calling a “reset” of U.S.-Israel relations.
“In the past few years, mistakes were made,” Lapid told Blinken in an apparent jab at the former Netanyahu government. “Israel’s bipartisan standing was hurt. We will fix those mistakes together.”
In a recent phone call, Lapid and Blinken “talked at length about a wide range of strategic issues including the security and political situation in the region,” according to a Foreign Ministry statement.
“What they’re building now is mutual trust,” said Michael Oren, former Israeli ambassador to the U.S. “I expect a change of tone rather than of substance… but there’s a possibility that it could produce something better for Israel.” (Read more)

4. Bennett Determined to Avoid Clash with Evyatar Settlers, Gantz Eager to Inflict Damage - Jewish Press
The last thing Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, formerly the head of Yesha Council—the umbrella organization of Jewish settlements in Judea and Samaria—needs is the evacuation of an outpost on his record. Especially an emotionally-packed outpost such as Evyatar, near Tapuah Junction in Samaria, which is named after two young Jews who were murdered there, decades apart.
This is probably why the bitter man of the Lapid Bennett, Benny (“I could have been a contender”) Gantz is pushing the forced eviction of Evyatar like it was the heart transplant for his dying grandmother. From the defense minister’s point of view, “this is not about evacuating an orderly settlement and decrying the fates of families. This was breaking into the area, made under the cover of Operation Guardians of the Wall, not legally, and without any approval from the authorities, and the place must be vacated.”
If he only evacuated the Arab squatters from the Jewish-owned homes in Sheikh Jarrah with the same zeal and dedication…
Gantz added that the issue is under his authority as defense minister, and cautioned everyone else, including Shas chairman MK Aryeh Deri, who has been galvanizing support for Evyatar, to lay off. (Read more)

5. Gilad Erdan to resign as ambassador to United States - Israel National News
Israel’s ambassador to the United States and the United Nations, Gilad Erdan, has requested of Prime Minister Naftali Bennett that he be relieved of his position as ambassador to the United States in the immediate future, once a replacement is appointed by the Prime Minister.
Erdan also noted that even in the event that a replacement has not been appointed by November, he will not continue in his position beyond that date. He will, however, continue to serve as ambassador to the United Nations.
According to the terms of the coalition agreement signed by members of the previous government, Erdan is only supposed to serve as Israel’s ambassador to the United States until November, 2021, at which point former Alternate Prime Minister Benny Gantz would have become premier and appointed his own choice of ambassador to the position. 1. National Archives' racism task force says own Rotunda example of 'structural racism,' knocks Founding Fathers—Fox
The National Archives' task force on racism claimed in a little-noticed report to the U.S.’s top librarian that the Archives' own Rotunda – which houses the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights – is an example of "structural racism" and that the Founding Fathers and other White, historically impactful Americans are portrayed too positively.
The report was completed in April and released this month but has so far flown under the media radar. The task force claims that structural racism "unequivocally impacts" how National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) employees interact with each other, customers and the historical records themselves.
Some examples of "structural racism" were provided in the summary of the report, including "legacy descriptions that use racial slurs and harmful language to describe BIPOC communities," which includes actual racial slurs alongside terms such as "elderly," "handicapped" and "illegal alien."
Additionally, the report categorized the National Archives' Rotunda as another example of "structural racism" as it "lauds wealthy White men in the nation's founding while marginalizing BIPOC [Black, Indigenous and other People of Color], women, and other communities." (Read more)

2. Chinese surveillance firm builds influence in Washington, with help from former members of Congress- Stars and Stripes
The Chinese tech giant Hikvision, accused of helping the Chinese government's campaign against the Uyghur minority, has turned to former members of Congress to lobby on its behalf as the United States imposes a series of measures limiting its ability to do business with American companies and investors.
Former U.S. representative Anthony Moffett, D-Conn., who served eight years in the House until 1983 and now works at the prominent Washington firm Mercury Public Affairs, will lobby for Hikvision's U.S. subsidiary on issues related to the National Defense Authorization Act and engage with members of the State, Treasury and Commerce departments, according to a Foreign Agents Registration Act filing made public Thursday.
Moffett will join former senator David Vitter, R-La., in lobbying for a company racing to defend itself in Washington amid questions over its links to Chinese government surveillance and oppression. Another former senator, Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., registered to lobby for the company, but withdrew from that representation in January amid public criticism.
Earlier this month, the Biden administration banned Americans from investing in the company, citing its links to the Chinese military. Hikvision, whose largest shareholder is owned by the Chinese government, faces another critical threat from U.S. regulators who are considering whether to issue a nationwide ban on purchases of the firm's equipment. 3. Biden Executive Order Mandates Divisive, Unscientific Race ‘Training’ At Every Level Of The Federal Government – Daily Caller
President Joe Biden signed an executive order on Friday that ensures that every part of the federal government will conduct race-conscious diversity training and engage in race-conscious hiring.
The executive order “establishes an ambitious, whole-of-government initiative that will take a systematic approach to embedding DEIA [diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility] in Federal hiring and employment practices,” according to a White House fact sheet. In practice, it will ensure that federal agencies employ tenets associated with Critical Race Theory (CRT) within their hiring practices and day-to-day activities.
CRT holds that America is fundamentally racist, yet it teaches people to view every social interaction and person in terms of race. Its adherents pursue “antiracism” through the end of merit, objective truth and the adoption of race-based policies.
The executive order directs federal agencies to “develop strategic plans to eliminate any barriers to success faced by under-served employees.” This will be felt through federal hiring, which will prioritize “communities that have historically faced employment discrimination and professional barriers, including people of color, women, first-generation professionals and immigrants, individuals with disabilities, [and] LGBTQ+ individuals.” (Read more)

4. House Intelligence Committee Republicans Find China’s Malign Influence in Corporate America - Breitbart
A Republican House Intelligence Committee investigation has found China’s malign influence deepening across corporate America, including in the pharmaceutical, manufacturing, agriculture, entertainment, media, finance, sports, and technology sectors, Ranking Member Devin Nunes (R-CA) revealed Sunday.
The investigation is still ongoing, but Nunes — who announced the investigation on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures” with Maria Bartiromo — said it has reached some preliminary conclusions.
The investigation has determined the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) — via its control over Chinese business firms — is manipulating and coercing U.S. businesses into sharing key technologies with China and helping Beijing acquire sensitive intellectual property, which benefits China-based firms at the expense of U.S. industry.
It has also found Chinese officials are giving guidance and direction to U.S. businesses to influence their business operations, investment strategy, and strategic directions to the benefit of China. (Read more)

5. New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu Signs Bill Banning Late-Term Abortion, Teaching Inherent Racism - Breitbart
New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu (R) signed a budget bill Friday, which includes bans on abortions after 24 weeks and teaching that individuals are inherently racist due to their skin color.
Sununu signed a $13.5 billion biennium budget bill and a trailer bill (HB 1 and HB 2).
“Historic tax cuts, property tax relief, and Paid Family Medical Leave delivered all in one sweeping action is a win for every citizen and family in this state,” the governor said in a simple statement that did not mention the non-financial issues which have been the subject of much debate.
The new law contains the Fetal Life Protection Act, which bans abortions after 24 weeks of pregnancy and serves as New Hampshire’s first ban on late-term abortion. (Read more)

6. 'I Am Grateful': Army Won't Punish Chaplain Who Criticized Biden Transgender Policy – Christian Headlines
A U.S. Army chaplain who was reprimanded for questioning the Biden administration's transgender policy has won his case on appeal.
Major Andrew Calvert, an Army chaplain with Fort Hood's 3rd Security Force Assistance Brigade in Texas, had received a formal reprimand following a January Facebook post in which he asserted that individuals who identify as transgender are "rejecting" biology and are "mentally unfit." Such a reprimand can be career-ending by blocking advancement.
Calvert, though, appealed the decision, and on Thursday, the Army agreed not to issue a formal reprimand, according to First Liberty Institute, the legal organization that represented Calvert.
The decision by the Army "clears the way" for Calvert's record "to be cleared, resulting in the possibility of future promotions and assignments," First Liberty said in a news release.
"We're very happy for Chaplain Calvert and we commend the Army for making the right decision," said Mike Berry, general counsel for First Liberty Institute. "No service member should ever be punished because of their religious beliefs."
Said Calvert, "I am grateful for this favorable decision, and I look forward to continue meeting (sic) the spiritual needs of the soldiers with whom I serve." (Read more)

7. ‘Nike Is a Brand That Is of China and for China,’ Company’s CEO Says- The Epoch Times
Nike’s chief executive said that the corporation is a “brand that is of China,” amid recent allegations of the company being connected to human rights violations conducted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
“Nike is a brand that is of China and for China,” CEO John Donahoe told Wall Street analysts last week in response to a question about competition from Chinese companies during a call about fourth-quarter earnings, the BBC reported.
“We’ve always taken a long-term view. We’ve been in China for over 40 years,” Donahoe said, expressing his optimism that the brand will continue to grow quickly in the world’s most populous country.
Donahoe also referred to the apparel brand’s co-founder and former CEO, Phil Knight.
“Phil invested significant time and energy in China in the early days, and today we’re the largest sports brand there,” he said. (Read more)

8. Biden's capital gains tax plan would push US rate to one of highest in developed world – Fox Business
Wealthy Americans could pay one of the highest taxes on capital gains and dividends in the world if President Biden's sweeping tax and spending plan becomes law.
Biden has proposed raising the capital gains tax rate to 39.6% from 20% for millionaires; coupled with an existing Medicare surcharge, federal tax rates for the wealthy could climb as high as 43.4% – pushing the levy on returns to one of the highest in the developed world, according to a new analysis published by the Tax Foundation,
Ireland – with a 51% tax on dividends – would be the only developed nation to impose a higher tax on investment income. On average, nations in the 38-member Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development levy a marginal tax rate of 24.4% on dividend income. (Read more)

9. Facebook Can Be Sued for Sex Trafficking, Texas Supreme Court Rules – The Epoch Times
The Texas Supreme Court ruled that Facebook could be held liable if sex traffickers use the platform to prey on children, arguing the social media website isn’t a “lawless no-man’s-land.”
The ruling was made following three Houston-area lawsuits involving teenage trafficking victims who alleged that they met their abusers through Facebook’s messaging service. Prosecutors also said that Facebook was negligent by not doing more to block sex traffickers from using the site.
“We do not understand Section 230 to ‘create a lawless no-man’s-land on the Internet’ in which states are powerless to impose liability on websites that knowingly or intentionally participate in the evil of online human trafficking,” the Supreme Court’s majority wrote.
Facebook has contended that it’s protected under Section 230 of the federal Communications Decency Act—a law that has been frequently criticized by Republicans, including former President Donald Trump. Critics have said that the rule, which shields online platforms from liability regarding third-party content, has allowed Facebook, Twitter, Google, and others to ban conservative viewpoints while unfairly allowing extreme left-wing viewpoints to proliferate. 10. Massive exercise in Black Sea with US comes after Russia warning - Jerusalem Post
On June 21 the US Sixth Fleet announced it would participate in the Sea Breeze exercise that will take place from June 28 to July 10. The US says that “this year’s iteration has the largest number of participating nations in the exercise’s history with 32 countries from six continents providing 5,000 troops, 32 ships, 40 aircraft, and 18 special operations and dive teams scheduled to participate.”
This is important because it comes days after a UK warship and Russia appeared to clash off the coast of Crimea. Ukraine claims Crimea, but Russia annexed the area in 2014. There have been other tensions between Russia and Ukraine and Russia and the US, increasingly at sea in recent years. Ukraine is fighting a war against Russian-backed separatists in eastern Ukraine. Russia has warned the UK against what it sees as provocations.
This means that this year’s exercise, as large as it is, has more ramifications for the region. The US says that “Ukraine and the US are cohosting the exercise in the Black Sea with participation and support coming from 32 countries in total: Albania, Australia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, France, Georgia, Greece, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Morocco, Norway, Pakistan, Poland, Romania, Senegal, Spain, South Korea, Sweden, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, and the United States.” (Read more )

11. Miami Building Collapse Death Toll Rises to 10, Over 150 Missing - The Epoch Times
Authorities on Monday said that at least 10 people have died and about 150 people remain missing following last week’s partial collapse of the Champlain Towers South condo tower near Miami, Florida.
Rescue workers sifting through the rubble have stressed that more survivors may be trapped inside the partially collapsed building, adding that tunnels have been created in the collapsed remnants of the structure in order to find them. No one has been pulled alive from the building since June 24, when the incident unfolded.
“We have over 80 rescuers at a time that are breaching the walls that collapsed, in a frantic effort to try to rescue those that are still viable and to get to those voids that we typically know exist in these buildings,” Andy Alvarez, a deputy incident commander with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, told ABC News on Monday morning.
Crews used heavy equipment to dig a tunnel about 125 feet long, 20 feet wide, and about 40 feet deep, authorities said in a news conference Monday.
“We have been able to tunnel through the building,” Alvarez added in the ABC Interview. “This is a frantic search to seek that hope, that miracle, to see who we can bring out of this building alive.”
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Raide Jadallah said in a news conference that authorities have been digging through “rubbles of concrete the size of basketballs” and “the size of baseballs” in an attempt to locate survivors.
Sniffer dogs and sonar-like devices, meanwhile, have been deployed in a bid to find any signs of life. (Read more)

Woke But Not Awake
The Daily Jot, Bill Wilson, June 28, 2021
A Daily Jot written in 2010 is on my screen as a constant reminder of the condition of our nation. We are woke, but not awake. The Daily Jot titled, “The Soviet seed now a strong tree in America,” is a chilling analysis of how, even though the Soviet Union is long gone, its plan to scuttle America lives today. You only have to look at militant organizations, divisive theories, the defund police movement and the cancel culture all working together to breed division and contempt. What KGB defector Yuri Bezmenov said in a 1984 interview has come to life—Americans are so confused that they can’t even make a logical decision to defend themselves. It is the result of ideological subversion. Woke, but not awake. God help us!
Bezmenov said ideological subversion takes four stages. The first stage, demoralization, which takes 15-30 years according to Bezmenov, was completed before 1985. The second stage, also completed, is destabilization. This is where people destabilize the entire nation through actions that are counter to common sense and sound practices. The third stage is creating crisis. And the fourth stage is normalization. Bezmenov said that the leftists that help create these stages are the first to be executed by a communist dictatorship because once they find out they have perpetrated a lie, they become the most ardent opposition. Those who stand against communism by warning others are also executed.
Bezmenov said that the Soviets used brainwashed leftists to teach Marxism-Leninism ideology to several generations of American students. He said that these teachings included feminism, sexual liberation, hedonism, anti-war sentiments, liberation theology, and globalism. He said these students are now the people who are the business, religious, political, educational, media, and entertainment leaders of American society. He said, “You are stuck with them. They are contaminated. They are programmed to think and react to certain stimuli…You cannot change their mind, even if you expose them to authentic information…the process of demoralization is complete and irreversible.” Sound familiar?
Bezmenov said it’s difficult to reverse this process. He said, “There must be a very strong national effort to educate people in the spirit of real patriotism, number one. an 'underworld' under the earth?

The paintings in the strange stone carvings, which were probably made about 3,200 years ago, include details of an "underworld" sitting beneath the earth.
Archaeological excavations at the Yazılıkaya Rock Temple in Turkey, which began almost 200 years ago, revealed an ancient calendar and a map of the cosmos that present interesting evidence.

In the temple, discovered by French archaeologist and historian Charles Texier as early as 1834, limestone carvings depicting more than 90 different figures, including animals, monsters and gods, have been found.
It took almost 200 years to decipher the paintings, but researchers have determined that the representations are of a cosmos that includes the Earth, the sky and the "underworld" that show the vitality of the creation myth. Read More

Upcoming conference equips Native believers for summer ministry
|

Native American believers face some of the most challenging spiritual battlegrounds in the country. Ron Hutchcraft, the founder of Ron Hutchcraft Ministries, says an upcoming conference prepares them for war.
“One leader put it this way: ‘our kids came here as campers and left here as warriors.’ Well, that’s good because it’s Warrior Leadership Summit.”
Warrior Leadership Summit, beginning July 1, is an annual five-day event for Native young people between 15 and 30 years old. Learn more here. “The conference changes lives on several levels,” Hutchcraft says.
“Some are rescued and come to Christ. Some are strengthened to go back and live for Christ as models of hope on their reservation. Some feel a sense of calling to minister and serve Christ, beginning with the (summer) experience on the On Eagle’s Wings team.”

Other than the Lord Jesus Christ Himself, no one has expressed the Gift of Repentance better than Sister Basilea Schlink. When I first read her remarkable book, Repentance---the Joy-Filled Life, I believe I underlined virtually every sentence.
