Series of attacks target U.S. personnel in Iraq and Syria
|
|
BAGHDAD/AMMAN, July 7 (Reuters) - U.S. diplomats and troops in Iraq and Syria were targeted in three rocket and drone attacks in the past 24 hours, U.S. and Iraq officials said on Wednesday, including at least 14 rockets hitting an Iraqi air base hosting U.S. forces, wounding two American service members. While there were no immediate claims of responsibility for the attacks - part of a wave targeting U.S. troops or areas where they are based in Iraq and Syria - analysts believed they were part of a campaign by Iranian-backed militias.
Iraqi militia groups aligned with Iran vowed to retaliate after U.S. strikes on the Iraqi-Syrian border killed four of their members last month. Two people were slightly wounded in the rocket attack on the Ain al-Asad air base in western Iraq, said coalition spokesman U.S. Army Colonel Wayne Marotto. The rockets landed on the base and its perimeter. He said earlier that three people were wounded. U.S. officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the two personnel injured were U.S. service members. One suffered a concussion and the other had minor cuts, one of the officials added.
Two rockets were fired at the U.S. Embassy inside Baghdad's Green Zone early on Thursday, Iraqi security sources told Reuters. The embassy's anti-rocket system diverted one of the rockets, said one of the sources - a security official whose office is inside the Green Zone. The second rocket fell near the zone's perimeter, security officials said. Sirens blared from the embassy compound inside the zone, which houses government buildings and foreign missions, the sources said.
In Syria, the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces said no damage was done by a drone attack on the Al Omar oil field in an eastern area bordering Iraq where U.S. forces came under rocket fire but escaped injury on June 28. The Pentagon said a drone had been brought down in eastern Syria and that no U.S. service members had been injured and there had not been any damage.
Iraqi army officials said the pace of recent attacks against bases hosting U.S. forces with rockets and explosive-laden drones was unprecedented. (Read more)

- Heavenly Father, we trust You to put a hedge around all U.S. personnel in Iraq and Syria, especially the troops who are assigned to duty to help win the war against their enemies. God, we ask You to send warring angels to disarm these militias and render them powerless that are part of a wave targeting U.S. troops. Lord God, render the dark forces to be constricted and helpless in that area. We ask You to assign Your warring angels to protect the U.S. Embassy so Americans will not lose their lives standng for peace there. We pray in Jesus' Name.

1. Israel said likely to delay reopening borders to most tourists until September - Times of Israel
Israel is once again expected to push off allowing individual tourists into the country amid concerns over rising COVID-19 morbidity, according to a television report on Saturday.
The postponement would see the return of general tourism move from August to September, according to Channel 13 news.
Israel has been allowing some tour groups into the country in recent months, but not tourists traveling independently. It had initially planned to reopen to the latter in May, but Health Ministry recommendations pushed the plans to July, then August, and that date is now expected to be moved back until September.

2. Israeli data seems to show COVID vaccine protection starts fading after 6 months - Times of Israel
There is a growing correlation between vaccinated Israelis who have been infected with the Delta variant of the coronavirus and those who were among the first to get the vaccine, possibly indicating that the vaccine’s protection fades over time, a report said Sunday.
However, some experts working with the Health Ministry cautioned that it was too early to draw conclusions, since the sample size was too small and those who were vaccinated first are mostly the elderly, who have a weaker immune system to begin with.
On Thursday, Pfizer said it will seek US authorization for a third dose of its COVID-19 vaccine, saying that another shot within 12 months could dramatically boost immunity and maybe help ward off the latest worrisome coronavirus strain. (Read more)

3. King Abdullah ‘satisfied’ new Israeli gov’t rebuilding ties with Jordan - Jerusalem Post
Jordan's King Abdullah told President Isaac Herzog that he is satisfied by the new Israeli government’s efforts to rebuild relations between the countries, in a phone call between the leaders Saturday night.
Abdullah called Herzog to congratulate him on his inauguration into the presidency earlier in the week. The President’s Office characterized the call as “friendly and warm.”
The Jordanian monarch “expressed satisfaction from the return of the diplomatic relations between the country to their proper trajectory recently,” the president’s spokesman said.
Herzog “emphasized the importance of the strategic relations between the countries to promote peace and regional development.” (Read more)

4. Imminent disaster? Mughrabi Bridge, connecting Western Wall to Temple Mount, is falling down - World Israel News
It’s a beautiful morning in Jerusalem’s Old City. Thirty foreign tourists wait on the Mughrabi Bridge to enter the Temple Mount. Eighteen worshippers, who have come to the Western Wall to pray, stand underneath the bridge. Suddenly, the bridge collapses. Eleven tourists and 13 worshippers are killed. Many others suffer severe injuries and the rest are only lightly hurt.
This scenario is not far-fetched and can happen at any moment, according to an engineer who recently surveyed the bridge.
The engineer, who works for the Western Wall Heritage Foundation, submitted his urgent recommendation in May that although the bridge—providing sole access for police, Israeli citizens and tourists visiting the Temple Mount—should be replaced by September, it really should be immediately torn down due to the danger of imminent collapse. 5. Netanyahu Leaves Official Residence after 12 Years, Bennett Will Only Sleep Over - Jewish Press
About a month after the end of his term as prime minister, opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu and his family on the night between Saturday and Sunday left the PM’s official residence, Beit Aghion, on 9 Smolenskin Street corner of Balfour Street, in the affluent Talbiyeh neighborhood—on the border of the affluent Rehavia neighborhood—in Jerusalem, having resided there for 12 years.
Prime Minister Naftali Bennett’s family will not move to the residence but will continue instead to live in their private home in Ra’anana. Bennett himself intends to sleep in the place several times a week as well as hold official meetings there.

1. Haitian authorities have asked US military forces to help stabilize the country - The Insider
Government officials in Haiti have asked the United States military to send in troops to help stabilize the country in the wake of the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse. Haitian minister of elections, Mathias Pierre, told the New York Times that officials had asked for help protecting Haiti's port, airport, and gas supply following the assassination, saying that he fears "urban terrorists" may attack the country's infrastructure in coming days. "The group that financed the mercenaries want to create chaos in the country," he said. "Attacking the gas reserves and airport might be part of the plan."
In a statement responding to the assassination on Wednesday, President Joe Biden said that the US stood "ready to assist as we continue to work for a safe and secure Haiti." The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Insider regarding whether the US would honor Haiti's request for troops to be sent in.
Moïse's killing came amid escalating political instability and violence in the country. The killing has exacerbated the unrest, with the leadership of Haiti in dispute. Fifteen suspects have been arrested in the killing, including two US citizens. The two Americans said they were working as translators for the hit squad, and were not in the room when the assassination occurred, a Haitian judge investigating the killing said on Friday. Prresident Biden has nominated the first openly gay woman to serve the United States as an ambassador. The White House announced last Friday that Biden intends to nominate Chantale Yokmin Wong serve to serve as U.S. Director of the Asian Development Bank, with the rank of Ambassador. Wong is also the first LGBTQ person of color to be nominated for an ambassador-level position, according to the LGBTQ Victory Institute.
The White House hailed Wong as a “leading authority in international development policy with over 30 years of experience in the multi-disciplinary field that includes finance, technology, and the environment.”
Wong is not the only LGBTQ nominee Biden has appointed to his administration. The LGBTQ Victory Fund says that Biden has appointed over 200 known LGBTQ people to his administration within the first 100 days of his presidency. (Read more)

3. Biden unveils executive order to 'promote competition' through 72 initiatives - Washington Examiner
The White House announced that President Joe Biden will sign a sweeping executive order on Friday designed to decrease corporate consolidation and increase competitiveness. The order, which has been much hyped by administration officials in the days leading up to its release, is meant to raise wages through the 72 initiatives that will be carried out by more than a dozen government agencies, according to a fact sheet released by the White House.
The order calls upon the leading antitrust agencies, the Justice Department and Federal Trade Commission, to enforce existing antitrust laws “vigorously” and that enforcement should focus on the labor markets, agricultural markets, healthcare markets, and the technology sector.
“That lack of competition drives up prices for consumers,” the White House said. “Families are paying higher prices for necessities — things like prescription drugs, hearing aids, and internet service.”
Biden’s order, which was months in the making, also creates a “White House Competition Council” that will be led by the Director of the National Economic Council. The goal of the council is to monitor progress on the dozens of initiatives in the order and to “coordinate the federal government’s response to the rising power of large corporations in the economy.” he directive seeks to cut down on “burdensome” licensing requirements that the White House claims stifle wages and suppress worker mobility. It also encourages the FTC to ban or limit noncompete agreements. (Read more)

- Father, we pray these 72 initiatives will do good and no harm to all industry sectors. We pray these initiatives will help grow industries and help reduce the cost to the consumer! We continue to bring before You the need to come against the mindset of the Biden administration that assumes an "overreach" of authority in every sector of our lives. We stand in faith, believing for the courage to confront an administration that wants to govern every aspect of our lives, down to the smallest detail. We offer this prayer in the Name of Jesus, amen.

4. CDC says schools should open in fall, recommends masks for unvaccinated - Fox News
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said Friday that returning to in-person learning in schools this fall is a priority and that masks should be worn indoors by all individuals ages 2 and older who are not fully vaccinated against coronavirus.
The agency also recommended that schools maintain at least 3 feet of physical distance between students within classrooms to reduce transmission risk.
"When it is not possible to maintain a physical distance of at least 3 feet, such as when schools cannot fully re-open while maintaining these distances, it is especially important to layer multiple other prevention strategies, such as indoor masking," the agency advised, adding that students should not be excluded "from in-person learning to keep a minimum distance requirement."
The guidance, intended for K-12 schools, also noted that "promoting vaccination" can help facilitate that districts "safely return to in-person learning as well as extracurricular activities and sports." Currently, only the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine has been authorized for use in kids ages 12 and up. The companies said they plan to request for emergency use authorization in kids ages 5-11 in the fall. - Lord God, once again we see the overreach of the authority of the CDC. We ask that You move upon the hearts of parents across the nation to protect the lives of their little ones. May each parent come to understand that none of these vaccines have been approved by the Federal Drug Administration, and that all are potentially dangerous when taken into our systems. We ask for wisdom, dear Lord, in Your name, amen and amen.

5. Az. state senator urges residents to put out ‘No Trespassing’ signs to deter federal vaccine pushers - Just the News
An Arizona lawmaker this week urged constituents to put out "No Trespassing" signs on their properties in order to deter individuals working with the federal government by going door-to-door to urge vaccination against COVID-19.
President Joe Biden claimed this week that the U.S. needs to mount a campaign conducted "community by community, neighborhood by neighborhood, and oftentimes, door to door — literally knocking on doors — to get help to the remaining people protected from the virus," a plan he proposed in the context of "getting [Americans] who are unvaccinated, vaccinated."
The suggestion has been met with widespread disapproval by critics who argued that the plan would constitute a massive government overreach and an invasion of privacy by the federal government.
Arizona State Sen. Kelly Townsend this week suggested on Twitter that her constituents should put out no-trespassing signs as a first line of defense against potentially invasive vaccine pushers.
"I have spoken to local law enforcement and if you don't want the Federal government on your property asking about vaccines, they advise you to post a no trespassing sign in a visible location," she said. "This is a prerequisite to be able to charge someone for being there against your will." (Read more)

6. Confederate Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson statues in Charlottesville officially removed - Fox News
The city of Charlottesville, Virginia, officially removed its statues of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee and Gen. Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson on Saturday.
Viewing areas for the removal of the statues were erected so that bystanders could watch cranes lift the statues from their plinth blocks; the process was nearly complete just before 9 a.m. Photos and videos posted to social media show a crowd gathered to watch the process on Saturday morning.
Charlottesville Mayor Nikuyah Walker spoke at Saturday's gathering, calling the removal "one small step forward" in an effort to dismantle White supremacy, according to VPM reporter Ben Paviour.
Initial plans to remove the Lee statue came about in 2016, prompting White supremacists and other extremist groups to use the monument as a focal point for events such as the 2017 "Unite the Right" rally.
The statues will be held on Charlottesville property until they are sold, according to a Thursday press release from the city. (Read more)

7. Trump, in CPAC Speech, Promises to Defeat Critical Race Theory and Marxism - The Epoch Times
Former President Donald Trump on Sunday addressed the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Texas and promised to “defeat” critical race theory.
“With the help of everyone here today, we will defeat the radical left, the socialists, Marxists, and the critical race theorists,” Trump told the audience. “We will secure our borders, we will stop left-wing cancel culture, we will restore free speech and free elections and we will make America great again.”
Critical race theory (CRT) is perhaps at the forefront of America’s culture wars as parents across the country have wrangled with teachers, school boards, and teachers unions over whether it should be taught to public school students. CRT is strongly associated with the “antiracist” movement, “cancel culture,” as well as “diversity, equity, and inclusion” workforce training.
According to Legal Insurrection Foundation’s Criticalrace.org and other critics of the ideology, CRT is an offshoot of the earlier critical theory—a European Marxist school of thought that originated in the early part of the 20th century. Several governors have signed measures in recent weeks that bar the teaching of CRT or similar content to students, with the latest being Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey, who approved a bill last week that prohibits local governments from teaching it to employees.
“Never forget that the radical left is not the majority in this country,” Trump said. “We’re the majority and it’s not even close.”
The president asserted that the “battle is so much bigger” than policy proposals or Supreme Court rulings, saying the “radical left” has infiltrated or is controlling “centralized institutions” such as bar associations, universities, schools, Hollywood, Big Tech, and large banks. And some of the pressure campaigns waged by Democrats, he said, are “straight out of the communist countries around the world. (Read more)

- Almighty God, we pray that will You go before Donald John Trump and anoint him with Your presence to defeat the radical left, the socialists, the Marxists, and the critical race theorists. Father God, as You defeated satan and all the hoards of his demons at the Cross, we claim that is a forever victory that can never be lost. Lord God, open the eyes of the blind that they can see and comprehend what the outcome will be if they join ranks with the radical left and all the forces of darkness that sustain them. We claim victory in Jesus name, forever. Amen.
- "Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. " (I Timothy 2:1,2)

8. Arizona Governor Ducey signs bill to prevent teaching of critical race theory - Just the News
Arizona Republican Gov. Doug Ducey on Friday signed a bill that would prevent local governments from teaching critical race theory in public schools or to government employees.
"I am not going to waste public dollars on lessons that imply the superiority of any race and hinder free speech,” Ducey said. “Here in Arizona, we’re going to continue to be leaders on civics education and teach important lessons about our nation’s history."
The law prohibits the state from requiring employees to partake in critical race theory training from government entities and prohibits such the practice in schools.
Ducey signing the bill into law comes as other Republican legislatures have pushed for anti-critical race theory bills such as the one now being considered in Texas' special legislative session.
The law targets teachings that "presents any form of blame or judgment on the basis of race, ethnicity or sex." That includes programs that cause "discomfort, guilt, anguish or any other form of psychological distress because of the individual's race, ethnicity, or sex," and bans teaching that "meritocracy or traits such as hard work ethic are racist or sexist." - Thank you for this bill to prevent the teaching of critical race theory! We pray all states will sign bills to strike down this harmful teaching. We pray for revival in our schools to take back our children for Godly values.

9. Biden Administration Halts Detention of Most Pregnant, Postpartum Illegal Immigrants - The Epoch Times
President Joe Biden’s administration on Friday said immigration agents would no longer detain most pregnant or postpartum illegal immigrants, the latest loosening of border enforcement in the Democrat’s first term.
An updated Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) policy says that agents “should not detain, arrest, or take into custody for an administrative violation of the immigration laws individuals known to be pregnant, postpartum, or nursing unless release is prohibited by law or exceptional circumstances exist.” Agents should also “carefully weigh the decision” to order such a person to be detained, arrested, or otherwise taken into custody, the directive states.
The acting director of the agency, Tae Johnson, said in a statement that ICE “is committed to safeguarding the integrity of our immigration system and preserving the health and safety of pregnant, postpartum, and nursing individuals. Given the unique needs of this population, we will not detain individuals known to be pregnant, postpartum or nursing unless release is prohibited by law or exceptional circumstances exist. This reflects our commitment to treat all individuals with respect and dignity while still enforcing our nation’s laws,” he added.
Officials told news outlets that 13 pregnant illegal aliens were in custody as of Thursday. They may be released under the new directive.
Mark Krikorian, executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies, said ICE’s directive would lead to more illegal immigration amid a border crisis.
“We can expect the illegal arrival of more pregnant, nursing, and postpartum women,” he wrote on Twitter. Under current U.S. law, children born on U.S. soil are automatically granted U.S. citizenship. According to the center, approximately 300,000 children are born to illegal immigrant mothers each year. 10. 130 degree temperature in Death Valley, California is 4 degrees from all-time world record - Accuweather.com
Extreme heat in Death Valley pushed the mercury up to 128 degrees Fahrenheit about three weeks ago, far above what's normal there for this time of year. And another round of above-average heat was building in the region, sent temperatures skyrocketing to begin the weekend.
On Friday, the temperature at Death Valley soared to 130 degrees, breaking the previous daily record high of 129 set back in 1913, according to the National Weather Service. This reading comes within 4 degrees of the all-time world record of 134 F set there in 1913. The 134-degree mark happens to be the world record for the highest temperature ever measured on Earth.
Death Valley, along with parts of Nye County and the Mojave Desert, is under an excessive heat warning through 8 p.m. PDT Monday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). On Wednesday, the first day of that warning, the temperature soared to 126 degrees in Death Valley. On Thursday, the high reached 126 degrees yet again, and Friday morning the mercury failed to fall below 100, reaching 130 later that afternoon. (Read more)

- "Men were scorched with fierce heat; and they blasphemed the name of God who has the power over these plagues, and they did not repent so as to give Him glory." (Revelation 16:9)

‘Down With Dictatorship’: Thousands of Cubans Demonstrate Against Communist Regime
Thousands of Cubans took to the streets on Sunday in a number of cities to protest against human rights abuses, a lack of freedom, and a worsening economic situation in the communist-ruled country.
Videos uploaded to social media appear to show demonstrations in a number of towns and cities, including the capital, Havana, on Sunday. Protesters, chanting in Spanish, said they “weren’t afraid” of the regime led by Miguel Diaz Canel, and said they wanted access to COVID-19 vaccines and an end to the regime.
It comes amid reports of gas, electricity, and vaccine shortages across the Caribbean island nation. Some analysts noted online that Sunday’s demonstrations are the first time that so many had protested the government since the Maleconazo uprising in 1994, which prompted a number of Cubans to leave the country by boat to the U.S.
Shouts of “down with the dictatorship,” “freedom,” and “homeland and life” were also heard during the demonstrations, according to footage uploaded online.
During different live broadcasts across Facebook, thousands of people can be seen marching through the streets of cities like San Antonio de los Baños, Guira de Melena, and Alquízar, reported South Florida’s WTVJ-TV.
In response to the demonstrations, Diaz-Canel echoed an often-repeated claim by other Marxist governments and blamed the protests on a foreign smear campaign initiated by the United States. (Read more)

Mysterious mansion ruins on beach captivate onlookers
|
|
Seashells, shark teeth and sand dollars are all things you expect to find when combing the beach. Beachgoers in Costa del Sol, El Salvador, though, have discovered the mysterious ruins of a villa that washed ashore on the picturesque La Puntilla Beach.
Travelers began flocking to the site after a Salvadoran TikTok user, Cholopanza Vlogs, posted a clip of himself traveling to the villa ruins on the popular social video platform, as well as a much longer vlog on YouTube. His TikTok went viral, racking up more than 400,000 views.
The abandoned villa, which has clearly seen better days, rests right where the waves meet the sand, with water flowing in and out of the ruins' lower level as the tides shift. Some suspect it ended up there courtesy of the very powerful Hurricane Mitch, which was notorious for its copious rainfall and blamed for more than 9,000 fatalities, in 1998.

|
|
Moviegoers in need of faith-based content after going through the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and the ensuing lockdowns will be pleased to know that new, uplifting movies will be coming to theaters this summer and fall.
Following the nationwide shutdowns of movie theaters in 2020, films that were on the big screen moved to streaming services that offered Christian and faith-themed content for audiences to watch at home. At the top of the year, the release of “Resurrection,” “The Girl Who Believes in Miracles,” “Roe v. Wade,” and “Walking With Herb” kept the momentum going.
Here's a list of five movies coming to theaters this summer, fall and up to Christmas. (Read more)
- Father, we thank You for moving upon the hearts of those who are able to produce these films, so that the American people can still enjoy going to the theaters and viewing movies that are truly "family friendly." In the name of Jesus we pray, amen and amen.

Turbulence in our lives? Turbulence in our nations? Absolutely! It's no surprise; His Word says He will shake all that can be shaken (Hebrews 12:26). Those walking in darkness need to be shaken awake and, if necessary, as my friend Kathleen prays below, "stumble in their darkness and be terrified of the experience of it, so that they may cry out to You and repent."
In the same way that you and I put on an oxygen mask when the plane goes into turbulence, you and I are today invited to use His Spiritual Oxygen Mask, Repentance, to remove old fear and other sin patterns as we face the turbulence in our lives.

Words: Vernon Charlesworth

Scripture: You have been…a shelter from the storm. Isaiah 25:4
Lyrics:
The Lord’s our rock, in Him we hide,
A shelter in the time of storm;
Secure whatever ill betide,
A shelter in the time of storm.
Refrain
Oh, Jesus is a rock in a weary land,
A weary land, a weary land;
Oh, Jesus is a rock in a weary land,
A shelter in the time of storm.
A shade by day, defense by night,
A shelter in the time of storm;
No fears alarm, no foes afright,
A shelter in the time of storm.
Refrain
The raging storms may round us beat,
A shelter in the time of storm
We’ll never leave our safe retreat,
A Shelter in the time of storm.
Refrain
O rock divine, O refuge dear,
A shelter in the time of storm;
Be Thou our helper ever near,
A Shelter in the time of storm.

Capitol Hill Prayer Partners (CHPP) is a ministry which is positioned on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., helping members of the Body of Christ to "pray for those in authority over us" in our federal government. Our primary purpose is to offer intercession on site for the members of Congress and their staffs each day that the Senate and the House of Representatives are in session; and our chief prayer focus is that "God's will be done in earth, as it is in heaven." [Matthew 6:10].
Because Jesus Christ has shed His blood for all, we, too, pray for ALL, in a nonpartisan manner. Also, because the scriptures indicate that "the effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much" (James 4:17), we are confident that fervent prayer, offered in the halls of the highest chambers of government in our land, can avail much for America. Capitol Hill Prayer Partners welcomes those who feel called to join us, engaging in this strategic work of intercession for our nation: "For there is no power but of God; the powers that be are ordained of God." [Romans 13:1]
