Senate Judiciary Committee Begins Hearing
5 interesting things said on day 1 of Barrett confirmation hearings
- Christian Post
Republicans and Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee made their opening arguments as confirmation hearings for President Donald Trump's nominee to the Supreme Court, Judge Amy Coney Barrett, began Monday.
Barrett's confirmation hearings come two years after the explosive confirmation hearings for Trump's previous Supreme Court pick, Brett Kavanaugh, came to a close. Barrett has been nominated to replace the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the long-serving liberal jurist who died Sept. 18.
All 22 members of the Senate Judiciary Committee made opening remarks as did Barrett herself. Here are five interesting moments from the first day of Barrett's confirmation hearings. (Read more here)
> > > 'I Believe in the Power of Prayer': Amy Coney Barrett Thanks Americans for Encouragement - Christian Headlines
. . . "I would like to thank the many Americans from all walks of life who have reached out with messages of support over the course of my nomination. I believe in the power of prayer, and it has been uplifting to hear that so many people are praying for me," Barrett said. "I look forward to answering the committee's questions over the coming days. And if I am fortunate enough to be confirmed, I pledge to faithfully and impartially discharge my duties to the American people as an associate justice of the Supreme Court." (Read more)
Our Prayer for Amy Coney Barrett
Father God,
We acknowledge that our Supreme Court is not the SUPREME COURT, for that Court is found with You in heaven. We now present the following petition before Your Supreme Court:
We do thank You, Lord, for Amy Coney Barrett. Lord God, she is a light, shining in the darkness that now fills our land. It is written that " . . . the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it."
Father God, we pray that during her confirmation hearings, Amy's opponents will be touched by her gracious ways, and by her skillful knowledge of our Constitution and of our judiciary.
Lord God, it is also written that, "when a man's ways are pleasing in Your sight, You cause even his enemies to be at peace with him."
We now decree that that peace and that that favor shall rest upon Amy Coney Barrett and that she WILL be confirmed to fill the vacant seat on the Supreme Court. She will no longer be called "Judge Barrett," but "Justice Barrett," amen.
Focus on Israel
1. Sovereignty Movement calls for clarity ahead of UAE peace deal vote - Jerusalem Post
Ahead of the cabinet vote on Israel's peace agreement with the United Arab Emirates on Monday, the Sovereignty Movement put out a call for ministers to hold a genuine and clear discussion before the expected ratification of the Abraham Accord.
The Sovereignty Movement's call for clarity and depth in the discussion leading up to the vote was made out of concern for the potential ramifications that ratifying the agreement could have.
"The movement lists a number of matters that demand transparent and serious consideration before the ministers and members of Knesset determine their position on the agreement," a Sovereignty Movement statement said.
According to the movement's co-chairwomen Yehudit Katsover and Nadia Matar, the security ramifications of the agreement are the highest concern and include subjects such as "the deal on the F-35 jets, rights granted to the United Emirates to the Temple Mount, a suspension or cancellation of plans for Israel to apply sovereignty in Judea and Samaria, the content of the concealed appendices in the agreement and other matters."
2. Israeli government unanimously approves UAE peace deal - Israel National News
The Israeli Cabinet voted unanimously Monday to approve Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's proposal to submit the "Abraham Accords Peace Agreement: Treaty of Peace, Diplomatic Relations and Full Normalization between the United Arab Emirates and the State of Israel" to the Knesset for ratification.
Prime Minister Netanyahu at the start of the special Cabinet meeting said: "Today, I am submitting the historic peace agreement with the United Arab Emirates to the Cabinet. This is the first peace agreement that Israel has signed in over 25 years. We are also completing the agreements with Bahrain, meaning that we will be making peace with two Arab states at the same time."
Netanyahu touted the peace deal with the UAE as being "different" from past Arab-Israel agreements, noting that no territory was ceded. In addition, Netanyahu said, the deal with the UAE would help fundamentally change Israel's status in the Arab world turning the Jewish state into a "hub" of the Middle East.
3. North Korea's massive new missile could help Iran threaten Israel - Jerusalem Post
North Korea's massive military parade showcased an arsenal that should raise eyebrows in the Middle East. It wheeled out its Hwasong-15 ballistic missile and a giant intercontinental ballistic missile that had to be pulled on a transport vehicle with 11 axles. This is a monster and reports call it a "strategic weapon" that appears to threaten the globe.
Years after the Trump administration believed personal diplomacy would make North Korea into a compliant actor, the regime has new weapons. Because Iran is working with North Korea, this could mean Tehran could threaten Israel with similar missiles or shared technology, as it has in the past.
France24 reported that experts said more new weapons were unveiled at this parade than in previous editions. China appeared pleased with President Xi Jinping congratulating Pyongyang on the anniversary.
Many internet sleuths are out there digesting the new photos of the massive missile and the transporter-erector-launcher (TEL) it rode on. Among these are Fabian Hinz and Tal Inbar. The length of these TELs has grown as well, from eight in 2012 to 11 in 2020. Last year it was reported that North Korea was mass-producing ballistic missile transporters and parts for them.
4. Tel Aviv hospital: We can't take any more COVID patients requiring special care - Times of Israel
Tel Aviv's Ichilov Hospital said on Monday it wouldn't take new patients with COVID-19 who needed extra nursing care until the Health Ministry found a way to regulate the number of patients sent to various facilities around the country.
The hospital said in a statement that the patients it was treating included 65 people in critical or serious condition.
It said it also had 25 patients who no longer required hospitalization for their virus treatment, but no other facility would take them due to the levels of nursing care they required.
It said it also had 25 patients who no longer required hospitalization for their virus treatment, but no other facility would take them due to the levels of nursing care they required.
5. Netanyahu mulls international aid plea as fires force thousands from their homes - Times of Israel
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday held urgent consultations as thousands of people were evacuated from their homes as wildfires raged across the country, saying that he would call for international assistance if the situation deteriorated.
Firefighters were battling multiple blazes Friday near communities and major highways across the country and in the West Bank, amid an intense heatwave. The fires caused more than 5,000 people to be evacuated from the northern town of Nof Hagalil.
"I received updates from the fire department chief and I asked him to ensure that we are using all our resources, and if need be, consider international assistance," Netanyahu tweeted after meeting with internal security, police and National Security Council officials.

1. WHO Official Urges Halt to Lockdowns as Primary CCP Virus Control Method - The Epoch Times
The World Health Organization's special envoy on COVID-19 has urged world leaders to stop using lockdowns as the primary control method against the spread of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) virus, commonly known as the novel coronavirus.
"We in the World Health Organization do not advocate lockdowns as the primary means of control of this virus," David Nabarro told The Spectator in an interview aired on Oct. 8. "The only time we believe a lockdown is justified is to buy you time to reorganize, regroup, rebalance your resources, protect your health workers who are exhausted, but by and large, we'd rather not do it."
Nabarro pointed to the collateral damage that lockdowns are having worldwide, especially among poorer populations.
"Just look at what's happened to the tourism industry, for example in the Caribbean or in the Pacific, because people aren't taking their holidays. Look what's happened to smallholder farmers all over the world because their markets have got dented. Look what's happening to poverty levels. It seems that we may well have a doubling of world poverty by next year. Seems that we may well have at least a doubling of child malnutrition because children are not getting meals at school and their parents, in poor families, are not able to afford it," Nabarro said. (Read more)
- Father, we praise You for this report, and ask that all lockdowns be released across the nation. Let no Governor or Mayor continue to cause massive damage to Americans by their quest for power.
- "For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery." (Galatians 5:1)
2. White House Physician: Donald Trump No Longer Risks Transmitting Coronavirus - Breitbart
President Donald Trump's physician announced Saturday that it was safe for the president to exit quarantine after contracting the coronavirus.
"This evening I am happy to report that in addition to the President meeting CDC criteria for the safe discontinuation of isolation, this morning's COVID PCR sample demonstrates by currently recognized standards, he is no longer considered a transmission risk to others," White House physician Dr. Sean Conley announced in a memo released to reporters.
Conley said that Trump was on day ten since he first demonstrated symptoms of the virus and that all of his symptoms had improved. He also cited tests that revealed "no evidence of the actively replicating virus." "In addition, sequential testing throughout his illness has demonstrated decreasing viral loads that correlate with increasing cycle threshold times, as well as decreasing and now undetectable subgeneric mRNA," he wrote. (Read more)
- Thank You, Lord for healing our President. We pray Your continued protection over him from any recurrence, of any attacks of the enemy against his health.
- "But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed."(Isaiah 53:5)
3. My message to 'pro-life evangelicals for Biden' - Christian Post
In a period of less than 10 minutes on Monday, I read an article about candidate Joe Biden's extreme pro-abortion views and then was sent a link to the home page for "Pro-Life Evangelicals for Biden."
The article cited Biden's response to a question about abortion rights, where he addressed the potential of Amy Coney Barrett becoming a Supreme Court justice. Should that be the case, he said, and should the court overturn Roe v. Wade, "the only thing, the only responsible response to that would be to pass legislation making Roe the law of the land. That's what I would do."
. . . In other words, while we think the slaughter of tens of millions of innocent babies is a bad thing, and we're willing to sacrifice their lives before they even enter this world, we do prefer the other policies of the Democrats, so they get our vote. Seriously? (Read more)
- Lord, the reasoning behind "Evangelicals for Biden" is lost on most of us, since his open stance for abortion is horrifying. We thank you for Mr. Brown's voice of faith against what is a deception of the enemy. We pray for these "evangelicals" that You will visit them with Your truth and bring understanding and awareness to their minds.
- "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places." (Ephesians 6:12)
4. Florida Police Chiefs Association Backs Donald Trump in First Presidential Endorsement - Breitbart
The Florida Police Chiefs Association made its first ever presidential endorsement, backing President Donald Trump for reelection on Friday.
The association announced its endorsement at a press conference, thanking Trump for his "commitment to law enforcement."
"President Trump's support of law enforcement is unmatched, and he continues to support law enforcement by ensuring we have the tools, training, and information we need to protect our communities," a spokesman said during the announcement.
The president called the organization to thank them for the endorsement, calling them "the bravest and the best." (Read more)
- Lord we thank You that one by one, many police associations are endorsing the President. We pray that this will make a huge difference in the elections.
"Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm." (Ephesians 6:13)
5. Ben Carson says HUD is investigating religious discrimination, Bible removal claims at housing complex - Christian Post
Dr. Ben Carson, secretary of Housing and Urban Development, said the department is investigating a complaint against the owner and manager of senior apartments in Oklahoma for violating the Fair Housing Act by removing Bibles and other religious literature from their common areas.
"Religious liberty is at the core of our nation's identity and will be upheld under the Fair Housing Act," Carson said in a statement. The law prohibits discrimination in housing and in housing-related services based on religion.
"Barring religious materials infringes upon this right, and the Trump administration will not stand for discrimination against any group for practicing their religious traditions," Carson added.
Wilhoit Properties, which manages the apartments and assisted-living homes owned by Vintage Housing, was accused of sending an email to their 116 assisted living facilities asking the managers to remove Bibles and Christian literature from their libraries located in the common areas that were shared by all residents, Sapulpa Times reported in March. (Read more)
- Thank You, Lord for Dr. Carson. We pray for Your blessing and favor upon him as he works to free HUD communities from religious restrictions that are unconstitutional.
- "He answered, "I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out."
(Luke 19:40)
6. U.S. Supreme Court Lets Stand 'Abortion by Mail,' at Least for Now - Christian Headlines
The U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday turned down a request by the Trump administration to halt so-called "abortion by mail," letting stand a lower court ruling that allows women to have the abortion pill delivered to their home during the pandemic.
It was a setback for the Trump administration, which had asked the Supreme Court for an injunction blocking a district court ruling from July that overturned Food and Drug Administration (FDA) restrictions. Those FDA rules require mifepristone - one of the two drugs involved in the abortion pill procedure - to be dispensed in-person "by or under the supervision of a certified prescriber."
U.S. District Judge Theodore Chuang in July said the FDA rules imposed a "substantial obstacle" to women during a pandemic. He was nominated by President Obama.
The Supreme Court on Thursday said it wanted "a more comprehensive record" at the lower court before ruling. It asked the lower court to look again at the issue and rule within 40 days on the grounds that circumstances may have changed. The high court said it was holding the administration's request "in abeyance" until the lower court ruled. (Read more)
- Father, we pray for your mercy over our nation for these egregious rulings by liberal judges. We ask that Your people would pray for revival.
- "In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor respected man. And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, 'Give me justice against my adversary.' For a while he refused, but afterward he said to himself, 'Though I neither fear God nor respect man, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will give her justice, so that she will not beat me down by her continual coming.'" (Luke 18:1-8)
7. Trump hoping to strike last-minute nuclear arms deal with Putin before election: report - The Hill
President Trump is hoping to strike a last-minute nuclear arms deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin before the Nov. 3 election, Axios reported on Sunday.
The two leaders have talked about arms control in a series of phone calls over the past six months. But representatives for both countries were unable to make progress in talks in Vienna until recently.
U.S. national security adviser Robert O'Brien and Russia's Nikolai Patrushev met in Geneva on Oct. 2, and the success of the meeting prompted Marshall Billingslea, Trump's arms control envoy, to make a last-minute trip to Helsinki and to adjust another trip in Asia.
A source familiar with the discussions told Axios that the Trump administration thinks it has an agreement in principle that has earned the approval of Putin and Patrushev. Officials told the news outlet that they think the agreement could be completed within a week once talks resume. (Read more)
- Lord, we pray for the full success of these meetings. We ask that You prevent Russia from anything that would help Biden in the election, that You will stand against all attempts to sway the voting.
- "Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established." (Proverbs 16:3)
8. University Of Kentucky Segregated Residential Assistance Training By Race, Sent White People To 'White Accountability Space' - Daily Wire
Whites and non-whites training to be Residential Assistants at the University of Kentucky were segregated according to their race and put through different presentations.
The separate trainings were provided to Young America's Foundation through the organization's Campus Bias Tip Line, which included emails and documents about the training. White RAs were sent to a "White Accountability Space" where they were given a document that listed 41 "common racist behaviors and attitudes of white people."(Read more)
- Lord, have we gone through so many years of fighting for freedom for all people only to be dropped backwards in history? We take authority over these foolish ideas, bind up the Marxism behind them, and declare Your Lordship over our nation's schools. Jesus is the Name above all names!
- "Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." (Philippians 2:9-11)
9. Joe Biden Reportedly Considering Andrew Cuomo For Attorney General - Daily Caller
Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden is reportedly considering making Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo his attorney general if elected president, Axios reported Sunday.
Cuomo chairs the National Governors Association, where aides have reportedly started looking at potential replacements for Cuomo if Biden is elected, Axios reported. Democratic donors said Biden and Como's history of friendship would factor into his consideration for the appointment, the outlet noted.
However, Cuomo's office said he has no interest in serving in a cabinet position, Axios reported.
"100% he's made zero outreach, has had zero conversations about this and has made his desire to stay in New York clear as day and be governor as long as people want him," Richard Azzopardi, Cuomo's senior adviser said, according to Axios. (Read more)
- Father, this man has openly kept churches and synagogues locked down and even threatened to close them. We declare that this man will have no place in ANY administration, and that You will help our President win re-election.

10. Graham challenger, Harrison, shatters Senate fundraising record with $57M haul - Fox Business
South Carolina Senate candidate Jaime Harrison's campaign announced on Sunday that it raised a whopping $57 million in the third quarter of 2020 - shattering fundraising records for a Senate race and adding more concern to incumbent Sen. Lindsey Graham's chances of keeping his seat.
Harrison's huge cash haul saw him break former Texas Rep. Beto O'Rourke's quarterly fundraising record - which was set in 2018 as he faced off against Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas - by almost $20 million.
"This movement has beaten fundraising records, polling records, and expectations," Harrison tweeted on Sunday. "Nobody thought a round-headed boy from Orangeburg could take on @LindseyGrahamSC, but with you by my side, we've done just that."
He added: "Let's bring it home." (Read more)
- Father, we need to hold on to the Senate majority. But we know that Your Name, Your Presence, Your power is far greater than money.

Polling Analysis-Trending is important
Many of the polls have former Vice President Joe Biden beating President Donald Trump in a landslide. The Economist predicts Biden has a 91% chance of winning the electoral college and a 99% chance of winning the popular vote. Rasmussen indicated that Biden had a 12-point lead over Trump in its recent head to head poll taken September 30-October 6 of 2,500 likely voters. Rasmussen is the only polling entity that predicted the 2016 election correctly when all other polling sources were pointing to a runaway landslide for Democratic loser Hillary Clinton. This election, Rasmussen is saying that all is not yet lost for Trump, but that there are many obstacles to overcome for him to be reelected.
Rasmussen reports on October 8, "Last week, we wrote that Donald Trump needed to help himself at last week's debate more than Joe Biden did, because Trump is trailing and Biden is leading. We did not think Trump did help himself, and the numbers we've seen since the debate have backed up that initial reaction. It also does not appear that the president and many top officials contracting coronavirus has made the president look better or improved his chances . . . a common question has been whether this episode or that episode would hurt his standing. But with just weeks to go until the election, asking whether something hurts Trump is the wrong question. Rather, the key question is whether something helps."
Rasmussen continues: "At least some of the numbers we're seeing for Biden now likely represent a sugar high for the challenger, which can happen sometimes when one candidate performs poorly or is on the wrong side of a bad story. Hillary Clinton's national lead against Trump hit double digits in some polls following the revelation of the "Access Hollywood" recording in early October 2016, although Clinton's aggregate lead over Trump in national polling as measured by RealClearPolitics hit only a high point of seven that October, and her share of the vote in the average never surpassed 49% in the fall (she ended up getting 48%). Biden, meanwhile, has not dipped under 49% in RealClearPolitics since early August, and he was approaching 52% Wednesday (October 7) evening."
Suspend your disbelief. Even Rasmussen says Trump needs to make up ground. Trending is important. The Trump campaign needs to show a positive trend upward in the next three weeks, culminating on election day. Since October 5, Rasmussen Reports shows Trump's daily approval has risen from 46% to 49%. This is a good sign. It must keep rising to over 50% for Trump to win. Remember that 10 million people already have voted and the Democrats have been pushing their get out the vote hard. 2 Chronicles 15 speaks of Israel turning to God when it was "vexed" with adversity. Verse 7 says, "But you, be strong and do not let your hands be weak, for your work shall be rewarded!" Time to get to work. Call on the Lord. Do what you can do.

MY FAITH HAS FOUND A RESTING PLACE
"We who have believed enter that rest." (Hebrews 4:3)
Lyrics
My faith has found a resting place,
Not in device or creed;
I trust the ever living One,
His wounds for me shall plead.
Refrain
I need no other argument,
I need no other plea,
It is enough that Jesus died,
And that He died for me.
Enough for me that Jesus saves,
This ends my fear and doubt;
A sinful soul I come to Him,
He'll never cast me out.
Refrain
My heart is leaning on the Word,
The living Word of God,
Salvation by my Savior's name,
Salvation through His blood.
Refrain
My great physician heals the sick,
The lost He came to save;
For me His precious blood He shed,
For me His life He gave.
