INTRODUCTION

What is Yom Kippur?
THE DAY OF ATONEMENT

(The Jewish New Year)

On the Day of Atonement, Israel is called to a new repentance and a humbling of themselves before God in preparation for the Great Feast of Tabernacles. Israel had to have a new Passover every year, and a new Day of Atonement every year---because their sacrifices which they offered year by year served only to call sins to remembrance, and to revive their sin-conscience.

Lev. 23: 27-32: "On the tenth day of the seventh month, there shall be a day of atonement; it shall be a holy convocation unto you; and you shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord."

For Israel, this Day of Holy convocation was a day of fasting. This was a day of the affliction of the soul (intellect, emotions, will). This was a time of mourning, humiliation, repentance, purification, cleansing and intercession. Israel as a nation afflicted her soul. Only the High Priest entered the Most Holy Place with the blood.  (Lev. 3:17) ". . . it shall be a statute forever throughout your generations in all your dwellings."

The teachings below, and the songs of Yom Kippur, are offered so that we, too, may enter into this time of deep repentance with the children of the seed of Jacob. May we all take this day -- beginning at sundown tonight -- and join in prayers of repentance with our Jewish brothers and sisters on this very holy day in Israel. Amen.

"Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the LORD your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity." (Joel 2:13)

Understanding Yom Kippur

Understanding Yom Kippur:

A teaching by Eric Teitelman,
House of David Ministries
Haymarket, VA

Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement is considered to be the holiest day of the year for the Jewish people. It is a solemn day to afflict our souls, but it is also a joyful day in knowing that God will forgive our sins. It commemorates the day when God forgave the Jewish people for the sin of the Golden Calf.

On this day-and only this day-the high priest of Israel would enter the holy of holies with the blood of an unblemished lamb and would make atonement for the whole nation. The priest would spend the prior week in seclusion, and the night before the great day would stay up all night in prayer and study of Torah. It is interesting to see how Yeshua also stayed awake in prayer the night before He was crucified.

It is customary for some Jewish men to receive symbolic lashes as a sign of humility and repentance. We of course know that Yeshua-Who was most humble-was whipped by the Roman soldiers and received the lashed that we deserved.

The Jewish people partake of a final meal before the holy day. Yeshua also partook of a final mean-A Passover-with His disciples before He was led away to die on the cross.

The rabbis teach that Yom Kippur erases all the sins we have committed against God. We know and believe that Yeshua, the Lamb of God is the One who took away all our sins forever.

. . . [Yom Kippur] continually reminds us to return to Him when we have drifted away so that we might receive a fresh anointing and cleansing of the Holy Spirit: "Be renewed in the spirit of your mind." (Ephesians 4:23)

"Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day." (2 Corinthians 4:16).

Not that we lose our salvation, but sometimes our relationship can grow cold or mundane. Yom Kippur is therefore a perfect time of renewal, and it fits God's created purpose in our lives.

A Christian Prayer of Repentance

A Christian Prayer of Repentance

I am asking, as a Christian, for forgiveness from the Jewish community.

Please forgive me for the arrogant disregarding of your eternal, God ordained identity.

Please forgive me for disregarding your position as the keeper and protector of the Oracles of God.

Please forgive me for not recognizing Israel as your God given inheritance.

Please forgive me for not recognizing Jerusalem as the City of the Great King - the place where God has chosen to place His Great Name.

Please forgive me for accepting and agreeing with any Christian doctrine that led to the murder and unmerciful persecution of 10's of millions of Jewish people and then, after all this, believing these same Jews are burning in hell.

God, please have mercy on me and all of us.

During this season of Yom Kippur, I am inviting Christians to join me in repenting to the Jewish people.

Repentance for Personal Sins

Cleansing the Bride:

Personal Repentance

1 John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."

Dear Christian Warriors:

Tonight, at sunset in your time zone, the Day of Atonement, Yom Kippur, a sabbath rest, will commence. This is in keeping with instructions the Lord gave to Moses approximately 3,320 years ago. Those instructions (Leviticus 23:26-32) are still in effect, including this statement:

"You shall do no manner of work; it shall be a statute forever throughout your generations in all your dwellings."

Yes, Jesus/Yeshua was the Perfect Lamb, His Blood constituting a perfect atonement, once and for all time. No lambs need to be slaughtered. But personal repentance was and still is the focus of this holiest day of all the Lord's feasts.

Any day to repent is timely, but this will be a special time to answer the Risen Christ as He knocks on the door of our hearts and minds, asking to come in to "dine" with us (Revelation 3:20). He wishes to assist us in repenting from old sin strongholds, choosing instead His Path of Purity found in His Word. He wants us to be holy as He is holy (Hebrews 12:14) to use His gift of repentance as an ongoing spiritual renewal by which we grow in Christ and become overcomers as His Bride, getting ready for Him, the soon-returning Bridegroom.

Thus the Godly call on this holy convocation October 8-9 could not be more timely, personally and for our nations: do no work, fast, "get right with God" --- do some soul searching, confess your sins, receive His forgiveness, exercise your free will to have a transformative change of heart, and really repent, deciding to follow God's Way instead of old sin strongholds.

Joy, a great release of His Liberty, will follow!

Because many (like you and me in many nations) are involved, it will be another small step towards what ultimately will be a global day of repentance. We need to repent in every nation that we have not placed God's Plan first in our nations, replacing it instead with men's limited, sinful thinking which is disastrous.

PERSONAL REPENTANCE: To assist you in your time with the Lord at some point during the next 24 hours, here is a basic form template for personal repentance.

(To read this template, please go here.)

Be blessed as you continue to experience His Love and the fullness of His Holy Spirit! His Joy and His Liberty follows repentance!

Repentance for National Sins

Repentance for National Sins:

Offered by Ann Graham Lotz
National Day of Prayer National Observance
Washington, D.C.
May 4, 2017

The following is a listing of twelve national sins, offered by Ann Graham Lotz in the U.S. Capitol Building on May 4, 2017. We now submit this list to you for your own prayerful consideration and repentance during this year's Day of Atonement.

REPENTANCE FOR THE SINS OF THE NATION

We confess our foolishness of denying You as the one, true, living God, our Creator to whom we are accountable, living as though our lives are a cosmic accident with no eternal significance, purpose or meaning.

We confess we no longer fear You, and thus we have not even the beginning of wisdom with which to handle the vast knowledge we possess.

We confess to believing that the prosperity of our nation is because we are great, while refusing to acknowledge that all blessings come from Your hand.

We confess that we depend upon our military might and our weapons systems to protect us from harm and danger, while denying, defying, and ignoring You.

We confess that we have succumbed to the pressure of pluralism in our desire to be inclusive, so that we honor other gods as though You are just one of many.

We confess that we have allowed the material blessings You have given us to deceive us into thinking we don't need You.

We confess that we feel entitled to what someone else has earned, instead of taking responsibility for ourselves and our families as we trust in You.

We confess that we live as though material wealth and prosperity will bring happiness.

We confess our greed that has run up trillions of dollars of national debt.

We confess our arrogance and pride that has led us to think we are sufficient in ourselves.

We confess national addiction to sex. To money. To pleasure. To entertainment. To pornography. To technology. To drugs. To alcohol. To food. To television. To popularity. To ourselves.

We confess that we have marginalized truth and mainstreamed lies.

We confess that we have become one nation under many gods, divided and polarized, with license to sin and justice that often does not follow the rule of law.

During the program, Pastor Ronnie Floyd then added two more points of repentance before our Lord: racism and abortion.

"Lord, when we look across our country, we think about things that still breaks our heart. And forgive us of the deplorable, the wicked sin of killing the unborn and justifying it and rationalizing it," Floyd prayed. "Oh God, in Jesus name, please forgive us. A generation has been lost that You created and man has destroyed. God, please forgive us. Change our ways. Change our mindset in this nation."

"We pray tonight against the injustice toward people, against the wicked sin of racism, that is completely opposite of the Gospel of Jesus Christ," he continued. "We stand against it and we proclaim, Oh God, would You raise up the Church to model racial unity, racial reconciliation and racial love."

Repentance for Sin in the Church

Repentance for Sin in the Church

The following is a prayer of repentance for sin in the church, written by an anonymous author and posted on knowing-jesus.com

To read the entire article, please go here.

For the Church to come back to you

Dear heavenly Father, You are a great and awesome God Who has loved us with an everlasting love and has sent the Lord Jesus to be the propitiation for our sins . . . You have raised us up and seated us together with Christ in heavenly places and yet all we deserve is death, for there are none that are righteous, except You Lord Jesus.

Father we come humbly before Your throne of grace confessing the many sins of the church and the great apostasy into which so many of Your blood-bought children have fallen. Father You gave us Your Word of truth and we have turned aside from its truth and are teaching or practising another gospel, which must grieve Your Spirit. We have not taken to heart the beautiful scripture that You have given to us for our learning and encouragement but have left our first love to drink out of the systems of the world - and truly Lord there seems to be no health in the Body of believers -yet all are united with Him forever.

Listen to the pleadings of Your servant and our cries for mercy. Forgive us Lord of the way that we as a body have turned from You and adopted so many of the world's false philosophies and destructing thinking. We have not loved You as You deserve, we have not delighted in Your Word - we have neglected the beautiful truths and instructions that are contained in its pages. We have become selfish and careless in our attitudes to others and to You and there is no health in us . . . Forgive us Lord.

I pray that as a body we would turn from all that is evil - all that is not of You - all that discredits Your name -all that grieves Your Holy Spirit and return to the truth of Your holy Word, which we have all too readily failed to practice.

May we once again become a peculiar people - a praying people - a people that is separated from the world - a people that loves You with all our heart and soul and mind - and a people that places the Lord Jesus in His rightful position in our lives. I pray that we may once again show forth Your praises and glory - not only with lips but in our lives, by giving up ourselves daily to You and by walking in newness of life -to Your praise and glory - in Jesus name I pray,

Amen
