An Invitation to Partake in Communion

An Invitation to Partake of Communion

Dear Prayer Partners,

A number of saints have sensed the quickening of the Spirit to sit quietly before our Lord each morning for the next 21 days, partaking of the Cup of Communion in our homes. Beginning tomorrow (Wednesday, June 10) and ending 21 days later on Wednesday, July 1, we will honor our Lord together in this special time of individual prayer.

As we gaze upon His Face in this precious time before Him, we can enter into quiet worship, thanking Him for his death on the Cross and His Covenant of Love poured out for all who believe on His Name.

Please find below an introduction to this "call to Communion," followed by three Scriptures -- the words of our Lord Himself as He served the first Communion.

Next, after you read this invitation to this very holy time, please choose one of the three Scriptures given below, and decree Christ's words out loud during your own time of Communion.

As we enter into our Corporate time of Communion, may our Lord settle our hearts and release His shalom into our souls, now and always.

In Christ,

Sara Ballenger, President

An Introduction

An Introduction:

What is Communion?

Communion began on the annual celebration of Passover when Jesus told his disciples to remember his sacrifice as they ate the bread and drank the wine. Just as Israel was celebrated the sacrifice of the Passover lamb when the angel of death passed over their homes, so believers in Jesus celebrate and remember his sacrifice of our sins when he died on the cross.

Holy communion uses bread as a symbol of the body of Jesus and wine as a symbol of his blood. The act of taking communion does not save us, it is an act of worship and remembrance. Many churches and denominations have different views of communion and hopefully these Bible verses about communion will help you decide for yourself how to best observe and remember Christ's sacrifice.

1 Corinthians 11:23-26

First Scripture:

1 Corinthians 11:23-26

"For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, "This is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me." In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me." For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes."

Matthew 26:26-28

Second Scripture:

Matthew 26: 26 - 28

"While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, "Take and eat; this is my body." Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins."

John 6:53-56

Third Scripture:

John 6: 53 - 58

"Jesus said to them, "Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them. Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your ancestors ate manna and died, but whoever feeds on this bread will live forever."

Why Do We Cite Three Verses?

Why Do We Cite Three Verses?

These three verses of Scripture reflect the Triune Presence of our God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Ask our Lord which one of these three you will cite each day, and follow His plan in this time of worship.

Amen!

About Capitol Hill Prayer Partners

Our Mission Statement

Capitol Hill Prayer Partners (CHPP) is a ministry which is positioned on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., helping members of the Body of Christ to "pray for those in authority over us" in our federal government. Our primary purpose is to offer intercession on site for the members of Congress and their staffs each day that the Senate and the House of Representatives are in session; and our chief prayer focus is that "God's will be done in earth, as it is in heaven." [Matthew 6:10].

Because Jesus Christ has shed His blood for all, we, too, pray for ALL, in a nonpartisan manner. Also, because the scriptures indicate that "the effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much" (James 4:17), we are confident that fervent prayer, offered in the halls of the highest chambers of government in our land, can avail much for America. Capitol Hill Prayer Partners welcomes those who feel called to join us, engaging in this strategic work of intercession for our nation: "For there is no power but of God; the powers that be are ordained of God." [Romans 13:1]
