White House Responds to Crisis
Trump feels the heat as coronavirus stalks US
Concern that President Donald Trump himself could be exposed to the coronavirus through contact with two Republican lawmakers loomed Monday as US stocks plummeted, feeding growing national anxiety.
Trump, who flew back to Washington after a weekend golfing at his Florida resort and having dinner with Brazil's right-wing president, has spent weeks dismissing the seriousness of the threat.
But after an emergency meeting with administration staff, he told journalists that he would propose "very substantial" economic measures to Congress on Tuesday. These will include tax relief and aid for workers in the gig economy who worry about calling in sick.
Trump said he would hold a press conference to discuss the measures on Tuesday,
adding the coronavirus -- which has killed 26 people in the US -- has "blindsided the world."
Trump has not been tested for the virus, White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham said Monday evening. "He has neither had prolonged close contact with any known confirmed COVID-19 patients, nor does he have any symptoms," she said in a statement. (Yahoo News) Read more here.

2. Blanket quarantine for all returning Israelis 'a foregone conclusion' - expert -- Times of Israel
Quarantine for everyone arriving to Israel is a foregone conclusion, a leading immunologist said Sunday, after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that the government was still deciding whether or not to apply the measure.
"I believe that they will ask everyone coming from abroad to go into quarantine for 14 days," Cyrille Cohen, head of the immunotherapy laboratory at Bar-Ilan University, told The Times of Israel. "That's the smart thing to do right now."
He said: "I truly believe that within a few hours or days we will get a more general statement."

3. Israeli Ministry of Defense Provides Training, Coronavirus Testing Kits to Help Palestinian Authority Contain Outbreak - The Algemeiner
The Israeli Ministry of Defense's Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) unit, which deals with civilian activities in the West Bank, including coordination with the Palestinian Authority, has announced that it is working with the PA to contain the coronavirus outbreak in Palestinian controlled areas.
Hundreds of coronavirus testing kits have been transferred to the PA by Israel, and Israeli and Palestinian medical personnel are training together to deal with the virus and its repercussions, COGAT said in a statement.
Israeli Health Ministry guidelines on preventing and treating the virus have also been issued by COGAT in Arabic.
"Bacteria and viruses do not stop at the border, and the spread of the dangerous virus in Judea and Samaria [the West Bank] can also jeopardize the health of the residents of Israel," said Civil Administration Health Coordinator Dalia Basa.

4. Netanyahu lays out five-point plan to combat 'worst pandemic in 100 years' - JNS.org
Netanyahu rolled out a five-part plan for stemming the spread of the virus in Israel.
First, all public installations will undergo disinfection, the prime minister said.
Next, he said, the Israel Air Force may be used to ensure Israel has all essential supplies.
Third, he said, he is working on opening a line of credit to provide a response for businesses and companies under pressure.
"Fourth, we will mobilize the best minds in Israel in order to develop a broad test in order to ensure an industrial testing ability that will separate between ill and healthy people," he said.
Finally, Netanyahu said Israel was likely better off than any other country as far as fighting the virus was concerned, and that he would push for intensified international cooperation.

5. Putin just sparked an oil price war with Saudi Arabia - and US energy companies may be the victims - CNBC
Vladimir Putin just sparked what could end up being one of the ugliest oil price wars in modern history, and American oil and gas companies may be the victims.
This weekend Saudi Arabia dropped the oil bomb. It not only cut its forward crude price to Chinese customers by as much as $6 or $7 per barrel, but is also reportedly looking to raise its daily crude output by as many as 2 million barrels per day into an already oversupplied global market. Look out below.
The move by the Saudis is both a market share grab and a loud signal to Moscow that it's done playing games. The dramatic action is in response to a contentious, and ultimately failed, OPEC meeting in Austria on Friday. OPEC members laid out a proposal to further cut oil output quotas by as much as 1.5 million barrels per day.
OPEC itself was aligned on the deal, but non-OPEC member Russia said "nyet," effectively killing it. A source inside the negotiations tells me that as the two sides worked out production cut plans, in the end the "red lines weren't even close." The source added that the Russians "definitely don't want to continue to support shale" at least in part because the Rosneft sanctions were still "too raw."

1. Dow sinks 2,000 points in worst day since 2008; S&P 500 drops more than 7% - CNBC
The Dow Jones Industrial Average sank more than 2,000 points on Monday, notching its worst day since 2008, as market angst over the spread of the new coronavirus and an oil price war sent investors scrambling for safety.
The Dow tanked more than 2,000 points, or 7.7% as energy and financial stocks dragged the blue-chip index down. The S&P 500 plunged 7.6%. The 30-stock benchmark was down 2,158 points at its session low. The massive sell-off triggered a key market circuit breaker minutes after the opening bell. Trading was halted for 15 minutes until reopening at 9:49 a.m. ET.
The sharp declines followed a roller-coaster week that saw the S&P 500 swing up or down more than 2.5% for four days straight. While Monday's drop was significant, it still didn't crack the 20 worst days for the S&P 500. (Read more)

2. Wall Street CEOs amid stock selloff summoned to White House - FoxBusiness.com
As the U.S. stock market and oil prices register one of the worst days in history, CEOs of Wall Street's biggest banks have been invited to the White House to meet with President Trump this Wednesday, FOX Business has learned.
Trump and members of his administration say the fundamentals of the economy are strong, despite the sharp drop in equity prices, but will look to discuss the financial market fallout from the coronavirus and potential solutions.
The administration is considering whether to implement some form of response to address the damage to the economy that the virus could impose. (Read more)

3. Two GOP reps self-quarantine after contact with coronavirus patient - Fox News
Two more Republican lawmakers -- GOP Reps. Doug Collins of Georgia and Matt Gaetz of Florida -- revealed Monday they had contact with the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) attendee who has since been diagnosed with coronavirus, saying they are not experiencing symptoms but will self-quarantine out of an abundance of caution.
Both Collins and Gaetz are pro-Trump Republicans who have been with President Trump since CPAC: Collins shook Trump's hand and joined him for a visit to the CDC in Atlanta on Friday. He also met with Trump at the White House last Tuesday, several days after the Feb. 26-29 conference.
That makes four Republican lawmakers who have said they interacted with the CPAC attendee who tested positive for COVID-19, after announcements over the last day from Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Arizona Rep. Paul Gosar.
Cruz's office released an update on the senator, saying he feels fine: "Sen. Cruz feels great, has not exhibited any symptoms of the coronavirus in the last 11 days, and is not currently experiencing any symptoms." (Read more)

4. NBC: Congress May Recess to Protect Against Virus - Newsmax
Lawmakers are beginning to push for Congress to go into recess because of the growing coronavirus outbreak, with some expressing concern that members could even bring the disease home with them.
Members of Congress "are concerned, particularly older members and a number who have conditions that make them more susceptible," NBC News reports, quoting an unnamed person characterized as a Democrat congressional source.
Members are planning to speak with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., Monday. Last week, she told reporters that it is "unreasonable" to think everyone who enters the Capitol can be tested.
In addition, some lawmakers are encouraging Congress to stay the course to show leadership and to conduct oversight of the Trump administration's response.
There also are concerns because the Capitol is open to public tours, with visitors coming from around the world, and Capitol Hill office buildings are open to the public.
Two-thirds of the Senate is over the age of 60 - with one-fourth over 70 - causing worry that they could be more susceptible to the the disease. (Read more)

5. 'I'm Never Going to Sell My Soul Again': Bloomberg Campaign Staffers Reveal the Real Reason the Campaign Imploded - Townhall
Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's campaign for president was doomed from the get-go. Not only did he jump into the race later than the other 2020 Democratic candidates, but his campaign decided to skip the Iowa Caucuses, New Hampshire Primary, Nevada Caucuses and South Carolina Primary. Instead, Bloomberg's team made a conscious decision to focus on Super Tuesday, the day when the most delegates were up for grabs. Despite spending more than $500 million dollars on an aggressive ad campaign, the mayor's results were abysmal. He won American Samoa, which garnered a whopping five delegates. The remaining delegate from the territory went to Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI).
Despite the terrible strategy from the beginning, it turns out Bloomberg's campaign staffers lacked enthusiasm and some were even secretly working to get their preferred candidate elected, The Nation reported. (Read more)

6. Biden racks up endorsements as Sanders goes on the attack in U.S. presidential race - Reuters
Two former presidential rivals endorsed Joe Biden on Friday in the latest sign that the Democratic establishment is coalescing around the former vice president to stop the candidacy of Bernie Sanders, who ratcheted up attacks on his rival ahead of crucial contests next week.
Former Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and John Delaney, a former Maryland congressman - both onetime 2020 candidates - backed Biden, as did a slew of other Democratic officials in states soon to hold nominating contests.
Sanders, who is desperate to regain some momentum after Biden's strong 'Super Tuesday' showing this week, launched a full-throated attack on his rival, assailing Biden over his record on trade, abortion, gay rights and Social Security.
The pair contest six Democratic nominating contests on Tuesday, including the big prize of Michigan, with 125 of the 1,991 delegates needed to win the nomination at stake. (Read more)

7. DOJ: U. of Tennessee Professor Concealed Ties to China to Defraud NASA - Breitbart
A professor at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville has been arrested for allegedly concealing his ties with a Chinese university, and engaging in wire fraud. According to the DOJ, he conspired with China to defraud NASA to get federal funding.
University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) associate professor and researcher Anming Hu has been arrested for allegedly concealing his affiliation with Beijing University of Technology (BJUT) in China, and illegally receiving federal funding, according to a press release by the United States Department of Justice.
The professor - who worked in UTK's Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Biomedical Engineering - has been charged with three counts of wire fraud and three counts of making false statements. Hu has also since been suspended from the university.
"Hu engaged in a scheme to defraud the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) by concealing his affiliation with Beijing University of Technology (BJUT) in China," reads the DOJ press release. "Federal law prohibits NASA from using federally appropriated funds on projects in collaboration with China or Chinese universities."
According to the DOJ, Hu had made "false representations and omissions to UTK about his affiliation with BJUT caused UTK to falsely certify to NASA that UTK was in compliance with federal law." "The United States Attorney's Office takes seriously fraudulent conduct that is devised to undermine federally-mandated funding restrictions related to China and Chinese universities," said U.S. Attorney J. Douglas Overbey for the Eastern District of Tennessee. "The University of Tennessee has cooperated with the investigation, and the U.S. Attorney's Office values the university's assistance in this matter." (Read more)

8. Virginia Becomes First Southern State to Ban Conversion Therapy for Children - Christian Headlines
Virginia has become the first state in the south to ban conversion therapy for minors. On Tuesday, Virginia's Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam signed new legislation banning the treatment, which involves the pseudoscientific practice of trying to change an individual's sexual orientation, often using spiritual interventions.
"This issue is personal for me, as a pediatric neurologist who has cared for thousands of children," Northam said in a statement, according to the New York Post. "Conversion therapy is not only based in discriminatory junk-science, it is dangerous and causes lasting harm to our youth. No one should be made to feel wrong for who they are - especially not a child."
The bill passed through Virginia's Democrat-majority state legislature last month after being held up for a number of years when Republicans had control of either chamber. The legislation, HB 386, prohibits health care providers and state-licensed counselors from administering conversion therapy to anyone under 18. The ban is set to come into force on July 1.
The American Psychological Association has consistently warned against the detrimental effects of conversion therapy; a practice it describes as involving "counseling and psychotherapy aimed at eliminating or suppressing homosexuality."
The therapy is intrinsically damaging, the APA says, because it presents the view that the sexual orientation of lesbian, gay and bisexual youth "is a mental illness or disorder."(Read more)

9. US orders deportation of former Nazi camp guard to Germany - BBC
A US judge has ordered the deportation of a former Nazi camp guard to Germany, where as a citizen he is still getting a pension for his "wartime service". Immigration judge Rebecca Holt said Friedrich Karl Berger, now 94, had served in the camp where prisoners were held in "atrocious" conditions. Mr Berger told the Washington Post newspapers that he had been ordered to work in the camp during World War Two.
Mr Berger has been living in the US since 1959. It was not immediately clear if Mr Berger, a resident of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, would appeal - a move that could delay his deportation for several years. (Read more)

1. DHS officials fear illegal border crossings may spread coronavirus - Washington Times
Some 328 immigrants from China have been caught crossing the border illegally so far this year, according to Homeland Security data that raises the prospect a coronavirus carrier could sneak into the country via the U.S.-Mexico border. Three other people from South Korea - another country with rapidly spreading cases - have also been arrested at the border, as have 122 people from the Dominican Republican, where the coronavirus has now been detected. All told, more than 1,000 migrants a day are caught attempting to sneak in illegally from Mexico, which detected its first case last week, and since has identified five others. (Read more)

2. Coronavirus bill overloaded with Pelosi's 'Christmas-tree ornaments,' says Republican who voted against it - Fox News
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's add-ons were the reason why a Colorado Republican voted against the $8.3 billion coronavirus bill that President Trump signed into law earlier in the day, the lawmaker said Friday night.
"The president asked for $2.5 billion. I would have supported that," Rep. Ken Buck said during an appearance on Fox News' "The Ingraham Angle." But then the actions of Pelosi, a San Francisco Democrat, prompted him to change his mind.
"The speaker decided to add all sorts of Christmas-tree ornaments to this bill. It was unnecessary. It was too much money," he said.
Besides Buck, only Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., also voted no when the House approved its bill Wednesday in a 415-2 vote. The Senate passed its version Thursday in a 96-1 vote, with only Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., opposing the plan.
Buck's office later told Fox News that his objections to the bill include not only the overall cost, but aspects including $1.25 billion that is marked for use in other countries, as well as $500 million in Medicare telehealth funding. His office also said that the bill outlines funding to stockpile masks, gloves and other things with no plan to make sure they get distributed to medical professionals instead of being stored up in a warehouse. 3. Televangelist Jim Bakker Ordered By Attorney General To Stop Selling Fake Cure For Coronavirus - Yahoo News
Whatever televangelist Jim Bakker is selling, the New York Attorney General ain't buying.
Lisa Landau, Chief of the Health Care Bureau, gave The Jim Bakker Show 10 days to comply with a cease-and-desist letter that tells him to stop touting an alleged cure for the coronavirus. The letter was sent Thursday to Bakker's office and cited a Feb. 12 episode of his show that claimed a Silver Solution sold on his website would be a preventative against the coronavirus.
Bakker was previously convicted of fraud and served time in federal prison related to his activities connected to his popular Praise The Lord (PTL) Club show, a religious version of mainstream talk shows featuring Jim and wife Tammy Faye Bakker. The couple later divorced in 1992 in the wake of a scandal that saw Bakker pay hush money to cover up an affair with church secretary Jessica Hahn. But at one point in the 1980s, he was arguably the most prominent televangelist in America. (Read more)

We pray that if there be any hidden motive in this Attorney General's action, that You would reveal it and cause it to fall to the ground. For Mr. Bakker, we pray for a heart for Your people, and against any agenda of greed.

4. Netanyahu Thanks Trump for Assistance Battling Coronavirus - United with Israel
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with his ministerial team on Sunday to discuss Israel's readiness in containing and combating the coronavirus, after which he held a press conference lauded the "extraordinary cooperation" between the US and Israel to thwart the virus' spread.
Netanyahu spoke with US Vice President Pence hours before meeting with ministers in his cabinet and thanked President Donald Trump and Pence "for their extraordinary cooperation with Israel" during the Sunday night press conference.
He said the "finest people in the world" are dealing with the coronavirus, including Deborah Birx, coronavirus response coordinator in the White Houseand head of the U.S.' Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
"We can learn a lot from them and we deeply appreciate the opportunity to cooperate, especially on the technological solutions for widespread screening and perhaps to get as soon as we can to home screening," Netanyahu said. "I think this will change the situation, not only for the United States and for Israel, but for the world. I'm deeply grateful for this cooperation that is so important for the State of Israel and for many, many others." (Read more)

5. At Harvard forum, experts warn of 'most daunting virus' in 50 years - STAT
For a veteran epidemiologist, an authority on homeland security, and a global health reporter, the outbreak of the novel coronavirus is the type of emergency they had long anticipated. But now that it is here, the three experts said Friday, they still couldn't help but feel the monumentality of what they were watching unfold.
"It's the most daunting virus that we've contended with in half a century or more," Michael Mina, an epidemiologist at Harvard's T.H. Chan School of Public Health, said at a panel discussion Friday at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government.
Helen Branswell, STAT's infectious diseases and public health reporter, has covered emerging pathogens since the 2003 SARS outbreak.
But with the new coronavirus, Branswell said during the panel, "It's bizarre but I find myself startled. Having written about the possibility of something like this for years, I still find myself really startled that it's happening, and I don't know why that is."
She compared the circumstances now to the summer of 2014, when Ebola was racing through West Africa and the world didn't seem to have a plan to stop it. "Except that I never worried then about Ebola spreading in the city I lived in," she said. "It's different now." (Read more)

6. 'Replace Fear With Faith and Pray': Greg Laurie Tells Americans to Pray, Not Panic Over Coronavirus - CBN
Greg Laurie, pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship in southern California is calling Americans to pray for an end to the spread of coronavirus and to calm fears over the outbreak.
"There's a lot of panic. In some ways, I think the viral fear about it may be worse than the virus itself," Laurie said in a video posted on Instagram. "The Bible tells us, don't worry about it - pray about it. Don't worry about anything. God is bigger than the coronavirus," he added.
Laurie is urging the nation to focus on three key items relating to COVID-19:
1. Be Practical about hygiene habits
2. Pray for God's protection over the nation
3. Proclaim the gospel

Every year, our Jewish friends celebrate the Feast of Purim, also known as the Feast of Esther. During this day of celebrations, they remind themselves of the deliverance of their people in the days of the King of Persia. This year it starts from sunset, on Monday, March 9, 2020, until sunset, Tuesday, March 10, 2020. On this day, the Jewish people celebrate with great laughter and joy because God has turned despair into hope! As they read the whole history of Queen Esther, they recognize the enormity of what God had done for them and then they burst out in great laughter and joy!
During this one day, the Feast recorded only in the book of Esther, is read in its entirety in synagogues throughout Israel and many nations. People dress up and armed themselves with toys and whistles to make much noise in celebration of God's protection and promise to deliver His covenant people from the adversary. The story of Purim is a clear testimony of God's hand of protection upon His children. Even when things do not look good, God is present!
The Synagogues become a noisy place during the Purim service. Kids specially enjoy taking part by blowing whistles, banging on drums, and shouting with loud voices when the name of Haman the enemy is read. In the past, I have attended Purim services in Israel. It always reminded me of the following scripture. "Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, 'The LORD has done great things for them.'" (Psalms 126:2) This scripture also reminds me when Olim return to Israel and share their testimonies with us of how their lives are changed. Their living in the Land is filled with joy, peace and, yes, laughter, celebrating God's provision for them to make Aliyah, to go home to Eretz (Land in Hebrew) Israel!
Purim teaches our Jewish friends and us as well, that whatever we may face, if we ask for the courage to trust and obey God, no matter what is the circumstance, all things will work together for His good. The real hero's in the Megillah (a scroll; a long involved story or account) is not Esther or Mordecai, but God, who was working behind the scenes, and using ordinary but willing men and women to preserve the Jewish people against all odds.
The story of Esther - the feast of Purim, teaches us and all peoples and nations, that God will not abandon His people, He will and is fulfilling all His promises to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. To God be the Glory!

Greetings, I felt led to look up why this virus is named coronavirus-the info. I read (see below) said it's because the spiked shape of the virus looks like a crown. I submit that this is a counterfeit crown trying to take dominion through this virus and it's effects economically as well as other ways. We as God's people serve the One Who wears the true crown of authority and we as His sons and daughters are crowned with loving kindness and tender mercies. Blessings, Pam

Stocks rally following worst day in 12 years as Trump pushes payroll tax cut
U.S. stocks rallied at opening Tuesday, recouping some of Monday's losses after President Trump floated a payroll tax holiday to stimulate economic growth against the coronavirus.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average opened up 3.44%, gaining more than 800 points. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq composite were also up 3.47% and 3.60%, respectively, at opening.
Oil prices rebounded from losses Monday as well, with crude oil trading 7.87% higher on Tuesday. The yield on the 10-year Treasury bond was up but still below 1%.
Trump said on Monday he will discuss a payroll tax cut and financial assistance for hourly wage workers with members of the Republican-led Senate Tuesday as a response to the growing coronavirus outbreak and its effects on the economy. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, a Democrat from New York, criticized the president's proposal on Twitter Monday, saying that it would not combat the spread of the virus.
