Trump Names New Lead Lawyers For Impeachment Defense Team
Former President Donald Trump on Sunday announced a new legal defense team after he parted ways with five of his impeachment lawyers just over a week before his Senate trial is set to begin, Fox News has confirmed.
South Carolina lawyers Butch Bowers and Deborah Barbier and former federal prosecutors Greg Harris, Johnny Gasser and Josh Howard had left the defense team by Saturday, a source said, calling it a mutual decision.
The source said the lawyers left over a difference of opinion on the direction of the defense's argument.
Another anonymous source told the Associated Press Bowers and Barbier left because Trump wanted them to make election fraud allegations during the trial.
Trump will now be represented by trial lawyers David Schoen and Bruce L. Castor, Jr.
The changes come with little time before the former president faces charges that he incited the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, leaving the exact members of his defense team and their approach up in the air at a crucial moment.
Trump was all but certain to be acquitted, however, because 45 out of 50 Republicans in the Senate voted earlier this month to dismiss the trial on a point of order brought forward by Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky.
The remaining five Republicans voted with Democrats to end debate on Paul's motion that argued Trump's impeachment trial is unconstitutional because he's no longer in office. (Read more)
- Lord God, we thank You for this last-minute change that will rebound in favor for President Trump. We thank You that he has now recruited David Schoen and Bruce L. Castor, Jr. to represent him as he stands trial in this shame impeachment proceeding next week. Though on our calendar, Holy One, it seems there is very little time for this new team to be up to speed for this hearing, but we know that it is written that our times are in Your hands, and that nothing is too difficult for You! We thank You that, next week, President Trump will be vindicated before the United States Senate and before the people of our nation, in Your name, amen and amen.

Focus on Israel
1. Gantz meets top US general in first visit since Israel moved to Central Command - Times of Israel
Defense Minister Benny Gantz met with the head of the United States military’s Central Command Gen. Kenneth McKenzie in Tel Aviv on Friday for the first time since the Pentagon announced that Israel was moving under CENTCOM’s purview.
Gantz lauded the shift saying it would “afford Israel opportunity to deepen cooperation with new regional partners and broaden operative horizons,” according to a statement from his office.
The two were joined at the military’s Kirya headquarters by IDF Chief of Staff Aviv Kohavi, who briefed McKenzie on Israel’s defense policy.
The defense chiefs also reviewed priorities and challenges shared by the two militaries, including regional threats such as Iran, Gantz’s office said. (Read more)
2. President Biden still hasn’t called Prime Minister Netanyahu - Jerusalem Post
US President Joe Biden had yet to call Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as of Sunday, 11 days into his presidency.
National Security Adviser Meir Ben-Shabbat was the third person in his position to get a call from his US counterpart, Jake Sullivan. Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi was the 12th counterpart US Secretary of State Antony Blinken called on the day after his confirmation.
Biden has called the leaders of Canada, Mexico, the UK, France, Germany, NATO, Russia and Japan, in that order, but not Netanyahu.
The Prime Minister’s Office said it does not comment on future phone calls.
The lack of a call between Biden and Netanyahu could reflect the president’s priorities, which are mostly domestic in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as an America that has increasingly sought to disentangle itself from the Middle East in recent years. (Read more)
3. Gantz to demand partial lifting of lockdown starting Thursday - Israel National News
Defense Minister and Blue and White party chairman Benny Gantz has called for a partial reopening of the Israeli economy starting later this week as a condition for backing an extension of the ongoing lockdown.
Gantz is conditioning his support for an extension of the national lockdown on an agreement to begin lifting restrictions on public activity starting no later than Thursday.
“I went around the streets in Bnei Brak, in Jerusalem, and Ramat Gan,” Gantz said at a Blue and White meeting Sunday. “I saw that everything is open. We don’t need to keep kidding ourselves, we need to get ready to reopen.” (Read more)
4. IDF Foils Stabbing Attack In Samaria - Israel Hayom
Security forces stationed at the Gush Etzion Junction in Samaria prevented a stabbing attack Sunday, the IDF said.
According to available details, a Palestinian man walked up to the troops stationed at the junction and tried to stab one of the soldiers.
The soldier who was attack engaged and neutralized his attacker.
CCTV footage posted on social media shows a man wearing a gray tracksuit approaching the soldiers, pulling something out of his pocket and rushing the soldier closest to him.
The IDF said the incident was under investigation. (Read more)
5. 'We're watching you': After bombing, terrorists threaten Israeli ambassador in India - Israel National News
A threatening letter warning of follow-up attacks was left for Israel’s ambassador in India, near the site of the bombing attack outside of the Israeli embassy in New Delhi.
Last Friday, a bomb was detonated some 50 meters outside of the Israeli embassy building in New Delhi. The explosion damaged several nearby cars, but caused no damage to the embassy facility. No injuries were reported.
According to a report Sunday evening by Channel 13, a letter was received by the Israeli ambassador to India, Ron Malka, after the bombing. The letter, written in English, claimed that the bombing was carried out by a group called Sarallah India Hizbollah, and appeared to link the attack to Iran.
Addressing Ambassador Malka, the letter warned that Friday’s bombing was just a preview of what is to come, and claiming that the organization has been observing the ambassador. “This is just a trailer presented to you, that how [sic] we can observe you, from your eating to your pie [sic].” (Read more)

8. Israel’s Military Head Has Ordered Plans for Possible Strike on Iranian Nuclear Sites - JNS
Wednesday, 27 January 2021 | Israel Defense Forces [IDF] Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi said he has ordered the preparation of plans to attack Iran’s nuclear sites in order to prevent the Islamic Republic from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
“Iran can decide that it wants to advance to a bomb, either covertly or in a provocative way. In light of this basic analysis, I have ordered the IDF to prepare a number of operational plans, in addition to the existing ones. We are studying these plans, and we will develop them over the next year,” he said in a speech to the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS).
“The government will, of course, be the one to decide if they should be used. But these plans need to be on the table, in existence and trained for,” stressed Kochavi.
Kochavi also urged the new Biden administration not to rejoin the 2015 nuclear deal.
“With the changing of the administration in the United States, the Iranians have said they want to return to the previous agreement. I want to state my position—the position that I give to all my colleagues when I meet them around the world. Returning to the 2015 nuclear agreement or even to an agreement that is similar but with a few improvements is a bad thing, and it is not the right thing to do,” he said.
During his confirmation hearings last week, US Secretary of State Tony Blinken said that America would not be joining the Iranian nuclear deal “anytime soon.”
On Monday, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan told his Israeli counterpart Meir Ben-Shabbat that the US would “closely consult” with Israel on all matters of regional security.
- Seek the Lord for wisdom for Israel’s leaders, especially Chief of Staff Kochavi, as various plans are considered for dealing with Iran and its nuclear ambitions. Pray that the United States will, in fact, stand strong with Israel on this and all matters of Israeli security.
- "I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye." (Psalm 32:8) [Prayer offered by Bridges for Peace]

1. Nancy Pelosi Attacks Armed Colleagues: 'The Enemy Is Within the House' - Western Journal
Members of Congress who want to flex their Second Amendment rights are the “enemy,” according to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday. Pelosi touched on the need for increased security for members of Congress during her weekly media conference, according to a transcript of her comments. “I do believe, and I have said this all along, that we will probably need a supplemental for more security for members when the enemy is within the House of Representatives, a threat that members are concerned about, in addition to what is happening outside,” Pelosi said.
After being asked point-blank who she defined as the enemy, Pelosi was quick to reply. “It means that we have members of Congress who want to bring guns on the floor and have threatened violence on other members of Congress,” the speaker said.
Fox News reported that there are some GOP congressmen and women who have expressed their desire to remain armed on Capitol grounds. Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado has sought permission to carry her gun on the House floor. Fellow Republican Rep. Andy Harris of Maryland is being investigated for allegedly seeking to bring a gun into the U.S. Capitol, which is not allowed. (Read more)
- Father, this is all in Your power to forgive our enemy. We pray in the Name of Jesus.
- "But I say unto you, love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them that despitefully use you, and persecute you." (Matthew 5:44)
2. Joe Biden Has Issued 42 Executive Actions In One Week, A Practice He Recently Called 'Dictator' Behavior - The National Pulse
The number of executive orders issued by President Biden in the first week – who once decried the legislative move as undemocratic and used by “dictators” – is more double the amount of the past seven presidents combined. In just seven days, President Biden issued 42 executive actions. That’s ten times as many as Donald Trump and over eight times as many as Barack Obama. It is a whopping 22 times greater than Bill Clinton, and 42 more than Presidents Reagan and Bush.
As the left liked to say of Donald Trump: this is not normal.
Joe Biden even recognized this on the run up to the Presidential election, calling the unilateral use of executive actions the hallmark of a “dictator.” Speaking at an October 15th, 2020 town hall with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, then-candidate Biden insisted that presidents who rule by executive order are undemocratic:
I have this strange notion. We are a democracy. Some of my Republican friends and some of my Democratic friends even say: well if you can’t get the votes, by executive order you’re going to do something, things you can’t do by executive order unless you’re a dictator.
“We’re a democracy. We need consensus,” the President who’s relied on executive orders to pass his agenda added. (Read more)
- Father God, we pray that the dictatorial unilateral use of executive actions be dismantled by Your mighty hand. In the Name of Jesus we pray.
- "We have heard the fame thereof: their hands wax feeble: anguish has taken hold of them, and pain, as of a woman in travail." (Jeremiah 6:24)
3. Confirmed Sec. of State Promises to Fly Pride Flag at US Embassies - Christian Headlines
Newly confirmed US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has pledged his support to LGBT causes with a commitment to fly pride flags at US embassies around the world, according to The Christian Post. Blinken, confirmed 78-22 by the US Senate on Tuesday, previously promised to seek protections for LGBTQI people during questioning from the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
“We’ve seen, I believe, the highest number of murders of transgender people, particularly women of color, that we’ve seen ever and so I think the United States playing the role that it should be playing in standing up for and defending the rights of LGBTQI people is something the Department is going to take on and take on immediately.” Blinken also said he would “repudiate the findings of the report of the Commission on Unalienable Rights and reaffirm the United States’ acceptance and adherence to the human rights laid out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.”
The Commission was created by previous Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in July 2019 to bring the Department back to its original mission. “As human rights claims have proliferated, some claims have come into tension with one another, provoking questions about which rights are entitled to gain respect,” Pompeo said. Part of this pledge includes flying the pride flag at US embassies. During the Trump administration, the State Department told embassies not to fly the flag. Former Vice President Mike Pence agreed with the decision, stating that “on the flagpole of our American embassies that one flag should fly and that’s the American flag.” (Read more)
- Father God, we understand from Your Word that any form of homosexuality is an abomination to You. We ask that You forgive this new Secretary of State, for he is walking in darkness. We ask for his salvation, in Your name, amen.
- "But at the beginning of creation God 'made them male and female.'" (Mark 10:6)
4. Cuomo Administration Undercounted Covid Deaths In Nursing Homes By 50%, New York AG Says - Daily Caller
The New York Department of Health undercounted deaths from coronavirus in the state’s nursing homes by as much as 50%, according to a report issued by New York Attorney General Letitia James on Thursday. The finding, which was based on data from 62 nursing homes, appears to undercut New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s assurances during the early months of the pandemic that New York’s nursing home fatality rates were among the lowest in the country.
Cuomo, a Democrat, often claimed in press conferences that New York had a 20% fatality rate at nursing homes, which he said was far lower than states like Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and New Jersey. “Look at the basic facts where New York is versus other states,” Cuomo said in a press conference in August, the Associated Press reported at the time. “You look at where New York is as a percentage of nursing home deaths, it’s all the way at the bottom of the list.”
In July, he accused his detractors of playing politics by questioning the official data on nursing home fatalities. He cited data that ranked New York 35th in terms of percentage of nursing home fatalities. “Go talk to 34 other states first. Go talk to the Republican states now — Florida, Texas, Arizona — ask them what is happening in nursing homes. It’s all politics,” he said, according to the AP. (Read more)
- Father God, we pray for mercy and compassion to be practiced by all the personnel in nursing homes. We ask You to forgive Governor Andrew Cuomo for releasing data that was false, and we ask that future policy in caring for these residents be based upon truth. In Jesus' Name we pray.
- "I will show you, hear me: and that which I have seen I will declare." (Job 15:17)
5. State Dept Spokesperson: 'Largest Threat to U.S. National Security are U.S. Cops' - Washington Free Beacon
The State Department’s newly installed deputy spokesperson, Jalina Porter, said in a 2016 Facebook post that the "largest threat to U.S. national security are U.S cops," according to a screenshot of the post obtained by the Free Beacon. "The largest threat to U.S. national security are U.S. cops," wrote Porter, who was recently tapped by the Biden administration to serve as State Department spokesman Ned Price’s deputy. "Not ISIS, not Russian hackers, not anyone or anything else."
Porter’s comments were made on Sept. 20, 2016, and appear to be in reference to video footage released that day of an unarmed black man being shot by police officers in Tulsa, Oklahoma. "An unarmed Black man takes a knee for justice, bigots riot," she wrote in the post. "An unarmed black man (with his hands raised) takes a bullet and dies, these same bigots are silent. Explain this to me, please."
Porter, a former top aide in the congressional office of now-top Biden White House advisor Cedric Richmond, added, "If y’all don’t wake up and rise up to this truth, the genocide against Blacks in America will continue until we are near extinct." At the time of the post, Porter was working as a communications official for the Truman National Security Project, a left-leaning foreign policy think-tank that previously employed Hunter Biden. . .
The State Department did not respond to multiple Free Beacon requests for comment on the posting. E-mails sent to Porter via her website and to an address provided on it were not returned by press time. (Read more)
- Father God, we pray for Your intervention in this matter. We bind the spirit of confusion off the mind of this official, and we loose clarity and truth. In the Name of Jesus we pray.
- "Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." (Matthew 18:18)
6. CDC Issues Sweeping New Mask Mandate For U.S. Travelers, Extends Eviction Moratorium - NPR
Starting early next week, travelers and commuters will be required to wear face masks on nearly all forms of public transportation as part of a sweeping new order from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention aimed at slowing the spread of the coronavirus. The order, issued late Friday, will require masks to be worn by "all passengers on public conveyances" traveling into or within the United States, including airplanes, ships, ferries, trains, subways, buses, taxis and ride-shares. Coverings will also be required at transportation hubs like airports, bus terminals, and train or subway stations. The new guidelines take effect at 11:59 p.m. ET on Feb. 1.
The new order arrives at a pivotal moment in the pandemic. One year to the day since the World Health Organization declared the coronavirus a global health emergency, the U.S. has seen nearly 26 million cases and more than 436,000 deaths. And while two vaccines have already begun rolling out, troubling new variants from South Africa and the United Kingdom are raising growing alarm about whether health officials can prevent the virus from spiraling even further out of control.
Separately on Friday, the CDC announced that it would formally extend a federal moratorium on evictions through March 31. The moratorium, which was designed to help residents who have been economically battered by the pandemic, had been scheduled to expire on Sunday, but was ordered to be renewed by Biden as one of his first acts in office. "Despite extensive mitigation efforts, COVID-19 continues to spread in America at a concerning pace," said CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky in a statement announcing the extension. "The pandemic has also exacerbated underlying issues of housing insecurity for many Americans. Keeping people in their homes and out of congregate settings — like shelters — is a key step in helping to stop the spread of COVID-19." (Read more)
- Almighty God, we pray for Your guidance and wisdom in preventing total control of all citizens in America. We bind the spirit of tyranny and we loose the spirit of peace. In the Name of Jesus we pray, amen.
- "Oh give thanks unto the Lord; for He is good, for His mercy endures forever." (I Chronicles 16:34)
7. Tulsi Gabbard asks Joe Biden: 'Have you declared martial law?' - WND
With the National Guard now expected to remain in the nation's capital during the second impeachment trial of former President Trump through March, a former congresswoman is asking President Joe Biden if he has declared martial law. "President @JoeBiden, have you declared martial law? Because that is what it's starting to look and feel like. Let our troops get back home to their families," Tulsi Gabbard tweeted on Monday.
The Democrat from Hawaii appeared on Fox News to complain how troops were "mistreated," being forced to sleep on cement floors in garages. She said the presence of the Guard in D.C. was a massive overreaction. "The militarization of our nation's capital was not only unnecessary ... to send that message both to the American people but to the world that somehow our nation's capital is under attack and threat of a siege of taking over, I just don't think that's the message that we want to send to the American people and to the world," she said.
Gabbard, who was deployed to Kuwait from 2008 to 2009 as an Army Military Police platoon leader, asked, "What is it that they are trying to accomplish now by creating an enduring presence? That sounds a lot like a lot of the stuff that we've seen happen overseas." (Read more)
- Great Father God in heaven: we pray that Your mercy and immediate intervention be given to the National Guard. Father God, deliver them from mistreatment by the leaders of our country, we ask in Jesus' Name, amen.
- "And shall not God avenge His own elect, which cry day and night unto Him, though He bear long with them.? I tell you that He will avenge them speedily." (Luke 18:7-8)
8. Hawley demands these 7 Democrats be investigated for ethics violations - WND
Republican Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley is demanding an investigation into the Democrats who filed an ethics complaint against him. “This complaint is none other than a transparent attempt by seven Senators to punish a political opponent for the entirely lawful representation of their constituents,” Hawley wrote in one of two letters sent Monday morning. “The Senate cannot function if its neutral administrative processes are hijacked for bad-faith ends, but that is precisely what is occurring here.”
The Missouri Republican called for the Senate Ethics Committee to investigate seven Democrats who called for an ethics investigation into both him and Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz to probe and “fully understand their role” in the Capitol Riot on January 6, arguing that Hawley and Cruz’s actions “lend credence to the insurrectionists’ cause and set the stage for future violence.”
Cruz and Hawley have both condemned the violence that took place during the Capitol Riot, but Democrats linked the two senators’ efforts to vote against Biden’s certification to the riot. Hawley and Cruz were joined by 147 other Republicans in voting against the election certification. “Your insinuation that Senator Cruz and I, by representing our constituents in debate in a manner you acknowledge is lawful, following the precedent set by Democratic members of Congress over the last three decades, somehow bear responsibility for the criminal rioters at the Capitol is shamefully false,” Hawley wrote. “And you know it to be so.”
The seven Democrats are Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island, Sen. Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, Sen. Maize Hirono of Hawaii, Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia, and Sen. Sherrod Brown of Ohio. (Read more)
- Almighty God, we pray You defend Sen. Hawley and Sen. Cruz by placing a guard of protection around them. In Jesus' Name we pray.
- "But even the very hairs of your heads are all numbered. Fear not, therefore: you are of more value than many sparrows." (Luke 12:7)
9. Thousands of illegal-alien criminals to be freed into U.S. communities - WND
An estimated 12,000 illegal-alien criminals will be released every month into American communities as a result of President Biden's executive actions, warns former White House adviser Stephen Miller. Biden's orders have included a 100-day "moratorium" on deportations, which already has drawn a legal challenge from border state Texas, and the release of all detainees "immediately."
"This is the most extreme directive, I would argue, really in the history of modern law enforcement that's ever been issued," Miller said of the moratorium in an interview with Fox News' Tucker Carlson on Monday. He explained that the order from acting Department of Homeland Security Secretary David Pekoske has only "narrow exceptions," so most aliens who fall short of the "terrorist" label could not be deported any longer.
"But the 180,000 people that ICE removed last year? Those same 180,000 people could not be removed this year as a result of that deportation moratorium. Of those 180,000, Tucker, 92% of them are criminals, either charged or convicted of a crime," Miller said. "In this memo there is no exceptions clause for criminals, I repeat, there is no exceptions clause for criminals." Miller said that means, operationally, that "the work of ICE officers will grind to a halt beginning February 1st."
Even worse is that the order also prohibits deportation of those who come into the country legally but refuse to go home when ordered, such as students and workers on temporary visas. He explained the order means that aliens, including criminals, cannot be removed even if they've been ordered to leave. "The whole system is dismantled," Miller said. (Read more)
- Almighty God, we gravely pray for the immediate reversal of all these adverse actions. Save America, my God. n the Name of Jesus we pray.
- "For I, says the Lord, will be unto America, a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of them." (Zechariah 2:5)
10. Mike Lindell: 'All those Republicans will be found out and they are done!' - WND
PALM BEACH, Florida – In an explosive interview Tuesday, Mike Lindell, the MyPillow founder who believes the 2020 presidential election was stolen, erupted on Republican lawmakers who oppose former President Trump, saying they "will all be found out and they are done," also claiming Twitter criminally stole his identity to send out messages that were not his.
"When this gets all said and done, all those Republicans will be found out and they are done!" Lindell told Mark Steyn, filling in for radio host Rush Limbaugh. "That goes down to the legislatures that didn't do their job [policing the 2020 presidential election], that goes for the governors." He blasted two Republican governors by name as "corrupt," Doug Ducey of Arizona and Brian Kemp of Georgia.
Some major shopping channels and U.S. retailers including Kohl's and Bed, Bath & Beyond recently said they would no longer allow Lindell's merchandise to be sold. "These box stores chickened out," Lindell explained. "Their real customers are gonna be upset with them. ... They're buying more from MyPillow or they're buying from the other box stores that stuck with me."
He also thrashed the Better Business Bureau for pummeling his business rating once he supported President Trump. "They took me from an 'A-plus' to an 'F' when I backed Trump," he said. "They downgraded me due to my politics, and they said I ran my ads too much."
When asked why business giants who made millions of dollars have all gone to the "crazy left," Lindell said: "I don't get it. I don't understand that part. Is it out of fear that that's where their base is? ... It's all gonna be found out now and they're gonna be the big losers on this." "I think it's a big spiritual battle in our country and world of good vs. evil, and they chose a bad path, that's all I can say. And it's a corrupt path.. ... These companies that are doing this [cancel culture] ... they're as much of the problem as the people that are doing it." (Read more)
- Almighty Father, we cry out before our God to draw the masses of people to the very center of God's will for their lives very soon. We thank You for the courage of Mike Lindell, and we thank You for Your promise to fight this battle for him. Lord, declare repentance and salvation over America. In the holy Name of Jesus we pray.
- "Be merciful unto us, O God, be merciful unto us; for our souls trust in You; yea, in the shadow of Your wings will we take our refuge, until these calamities be overpast." (Psalm 57:1)

Words: Louisa M. R. Stead
Music: William Kirkpatrick
’Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
And to take Him at His word;
Just to rest upon His promise,
And to know, Thus says the Lord!
Refrain
Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!
How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er;
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
O for grace to trust Him more!
O how sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to trust His cleansing blood;
And in simple faith to plunge me
’Neath the healing, cleansing flood!
Refrain
Yes, ’tis sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just from sin and self to cease;
Just from Jesus simply taking
Life and rest, and joy and peace.
Refrain
I’m so glad I learned to trust Thee,
Precious Jesus, Savior, friend;
And I know that Thou art with me,
Wilt be with me to the end.
