The Trump Administration Celebrates International Religious Freedom Day

President Trump has tirelessly worked to promote and safeguard religious liberty both at home and abroad. Eighty-three percent of the world’s population lives in nations where religious freedom is threatened or banned.  President Trump knows that advancing religious freedom for all is vital to combating rising levels of violence around the global. Today, on International Religious Freedom Day, we recommit to ensuring all people of faith can live freely without fear of persecution.

International Religious Freedom Highlights

Americans will never tire in our effort to defend and promote freedom of worship and religion. We want and support religious liberty for all. - President Donald J. Trump

·       Last year, The President hosted survivors of religious persecution from 16 different countries in the Oval Office.

·       On June 2, 2020, President Trump issued an Executive Order on Advancing International Religious Freedom, fully integrating a vigorous defense of international religious freedom rights for all people, of all faiths—into key aspects of U.S. foreign policy.

·       The President launched the Ministerial to Advance Religious Freedom in 2018, which brought together leaders from around the world to discuss the challenges facing religious freedom and to identify ways to address religious persecution. At the President’s direction, a second Ministerial was held in 2019, and it was the largest religious freedom event of its kind in the world, bringing together more than 1,000 civil society and religious leaders, and more than 100 foreign delegations.

·       At the UN in 2019, the President made history as the first American president to convene a meeting on International Religious Freedom and deliver an address calling on global leaders to take concrete steps to prevent state and non‑state actors from attacking citizens for their beliefs and to help ensure the sanctity and safety of places of worship.

·       The Trump Administration has expanded partnerships with faith-based and non-faith based organizations to provide the most impactful and effective assistance to persecuted and underserved religious minorities around the world. Through these reputable organizations, the U.S. provides assistance to Christian and Yazidi communities in Iraq who suffered at the hands of ISIS, as well as Rohingya Muslims fleeing persecution in Burma.
