UPenn President Liz Magill steps down after controversial testimony on antisemitism
|
|
University of Pennsylvania President Liz Magill has resigned after widespread public outrage over her testimony to Congress on antisemitism.
"I write to share that President Liz Magill has voluntarily tendered her resignation as President of the University of Pennsylvania. She will remain a tenured faculty member at Penn Carey Law," Board of Trustees Chairman Scott L. Bok wrote in a statement.
Magill resigned days after major donor Ross Stevens rescinded a $100 million gift to the school in protest of the college's handling of antisemitism on campus and her leadership. The board of Penn's Wharton business school also asked Magill to resign and the university's board of trustees held an emergency meeting Thursday as the school faced backlash over her comments.
Both Stevens and the Wharton board pointed to Magill's disastrous Congressional testimony in statements explaining the reasons for their respective actions.
At issue were remarks Magill made before the House Education and Workforce Committee this week in which she refused to outright say that antisemitic chants and calls for the genocide of Jewish people violate the school's code of conduct. (Fox News)

- Lord, we are grateful that this woman has stepped down. But there were two others at that hearing and all foolishly answered from a position of weakness and antisemitism. They refused to confront the evil on their campuses. We ask for consequences for the others, and ask that replacements be righteous people who can help turn these left-wing campuses around.

Christians and Jews United Together to Pray for Israel During Hanukkah
|
|
two prayer initiatives have converged and are coming together in collaboration to pray prayers of covering and support for Israel and the Jewish people during the 8 days of Hanukkah (Dec 7-15).
Bridge Connector Ministries recently launched a prayer initiative: 8 Days of Prayer During the 8 Days of Hanukkah. Each day of Hanukkah, people can listen to a short audio segment of prayers that were spoken at the Jerusalem Prayer breakfast held at the Knesset on Nov 29. Both Jews and Christians shared prayers from the podium at this prayer meeting.
Jonathan Feldstein with Genesis 123 Foundation also launched a prayer initiative, calling upon Christians throughout the world to pray for Israel during the season of Hanukkah (Dec 7-15), and to ask God for miracles for Israel. He lists 8 suggested prayer points that Christians can pray into during the 8 days of Hanukkah.
The 8 prayer points that the Genesis 123 Foundation suggests have now been incorporated into the 8 Days of Prayer During the 8 Days of Hanukkah prayer initiative. Each day of Hanukkah, people can listen to a short audio prayer from the Jerusalem prayer breakfast and also pray into the prayer point listed from Genesis 123 Foundation.

1. Blinken: Israel, not US, will make decision on end of its war against Hamas - Times of Israel
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken tells CNN that Israel, not the US, will be the one to decide the timing of the end of its war against Hamas.
“We have these discussions with Israel, including about the duration as well as how it’s prosecuting this campaign against Hamas. These are decisions for Israel to make,” Blinken tells CNN’s Jake Tapper.
Blinken also says that he believes Israel has the right “intent” when it comes to minimizing civilian casualties in Gaza, “but the results are not always manifesting themselves, and we see that both in terms of civilian protection and humanitarian assistance.” (Read more)

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke with Russian leader Vladimir Putin for nearly an hour Sunday, criticizing Moscow’s alliance with Iran and expressing dissatisfaction with its stance on Israel’s war with Hamas.
Netanyahu stepped out of his government’s weekly cabinet meeting for the approximately 50-minute phone call, his office said, the first talks between the leaders since mid-October amid rapidly cooling ties between Jerusalem and Moscow.
Since war broke out on October 7, Russia has regularly criticized Israel, including in the UN Security Council, while at the same time hosting leaders of the Hamas terror group in a development widely seen as an extension of its increasingly friendly ties with Iran. (Read more)

3. Hamas terrorists lose contact with Gaza leaders, surrender to IDF - Jerusalem Post
Dozens of Hamas terrorists lost contact with the terror group's leadership, leaving them with no option but to lay down their weapons and surrender to Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip, Army Radio reported on Sunday morning.
After images of stripped terrorists in Jabalya and Khan Yunis circulated on social media, reports emerged that the IDF is "identifying changes in Hamas leadership's conduct."
A security source told Army Radio that Hamas's senior leaders, thought to have fled to Khan Yunis in Gaza's south, "prefer their personal survival over the survival of Hamas's command and control operations." (Read more)

4. Hezbollah launched rocket from next to UN compound -Israel National News
The IDF has revealed that on Saturday night, the Hezbollah terrorist organization launched several rockets toward the State of Israel.
One of the rockets was launched from 20 meters away from a United Nations compound in southern Lebanon. In recent days, additional launches have been made from the area toward the State of Israel.
"The Hezbollah terrorist organization continues to fire toward the State of Israel from areas located only a few meters away from a U.N. compound. In doing so, the terrorist organization endangers the lives of UNIFIL soldiers and continues to systematically violate UNSC Resolution 1701," the IDF said in a statement. (Read more)

5. Yemen’s Houthis Warn They Will Target All Ships Headed to Israel - Algemeiner
Yemen’s Houthi movement said on Saturday they would target all ships heading to Israel, regardless of their nationality, and warned all international shipping companies against dealing with Israeli ports.
The Iran-aligned group is escalating the risks of a regional conflict amid a brutal war between Israel and the Palestinian terrorist Hamas.
The Houthis have attacked and seized several Israeli-linked ships in the Red Sea and its Bab al-Mandab strait, a sea lane through which much of the world’s oil is shipped, and fired ballistic missiles and armed drones at Israel.

1. U.S. Vetoes U.N. Security Council Resolution on Gaza Ceasefire; War on Hamas Continues – Breitbart
The United States vetoed a United Nations Security Council resolution on Friday that would have called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, allowing the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to continue pounding Hamas terrorists as they began to surrender.
As the United Nations’ in-house news service reported:
The US vetoed a resolution put forward by the United Arab Emirates and backed by over 90 Member States. There were 13 votes in favour and the United Kingdom abstained.

The resolution which failed to pass took note of the Secretary-General’s invocation of Article 99, expressed grave concern over the “catastrophic situation” in Gaza, and emphasized that both Palestinian and Israeli civilians must be protected.
It demanded an immediate humanitarian ceasefire, and the immediate and unconditional release of hostages as well as humanitarian access.
It did not condemn the terror attacks perpetrated by Hamas on 7 October. (Read more)

2. US Embassy In Baghdad Shelled As Attacks On US Troops Trend Back Up- Daily Caller
The U.S. embassy in Baghdad, Iraq, came under rocket fire on Friday morning by suspected Iran-backed militias on Friday as similar attacks against U.S. troops have begun to escalate once more, Reuters reported.
Drone and rocket attacks on bases in Iraq and Syria housing U.S. troops have escalated once more after a lull corresponding with the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas that occured between Nov. 24 and Dec. 1, the Pentagon confirmed Thursday. At the same time, an Iran-aligned militia group was believed to have launched two rocket salvos at the U.S. embassy in Baghdad, but the attack did not cause any casualties, Reuters reported, citing an embassy spokesperson.
No group immediately claimed responsibility.
“We again call on the Government of Iraq, as we have done on many occasions, to do all in its power to protect diplomatic and Coalition partner personnel and facilities,” the spokesperson told Reuters. (Read more)

3. Democrat Rep. Pressley introduces bill to allow prisoners to vote in federal elections – Just the News
Democrat Rep. Ayanna Pressley has introduced legislation to allow incarcerated U.S. citizens to vote in federal elections. The Massachusetts lawmaker also reaffirmed her to support for lowering the voting age to 16. Pressley noted that she's supported “requiring ballots be made available in multiple languages, expanding early voting in local elections."
"And in Congress, I led efforts and legislation to lower the federal voting age to 16 and urged the DOJ to aggressively protect voting rights and to fight against voter suppression,” Pressley said Wednesday in announcing the Inclusive Democracy Act.

4. Solar Energy Company Accused Of Scamming Elderly People Was Awarded $3 Billion By Biden Admin. GOP Leaders Are Now Seeking Answers. – Daily Wire
A solar energy company recently awarded $3 billion by the Biden administration has been accused of scamming elderly people, and Republican leaders in the House and Senate are now asking the Energy Department to provide more details about the deal.
Sunnova Energy Corporation, a residential and commercial solar energy company based in Houston, benefited from “the single largest commitment ever made by the Federal Government to solar power” when the Biden administration announced a loan guarantee with the energy company on September 28. Recent “credible reports of predatory sales strategies,” however, alarmed Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), the chair of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, and Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY), ranking member on the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources.
“We are alarmed about recent, credible reports that Sunnova has racked up numerous consumer complaints, including those alleging troubling sales practices, such as Sunnova pressing elderly homeowners in poor health to sign long-term contracts costing tens of thousands of dollars,” Barrasso and McMorris Rodgers wrote in a letter sent earlier this week to Jigar Shah, the director of the Loan Programs Office (LPO) at the U.S. Department of Energy. 5. Four in Ten Democrats Agree with Removing Statues of George Washington – Breitbart
Four in ten Democrats agree with removing statues of George Washington as some leftist cities consider doing so, a Rasmussen Reports survey released Thursday found.
While the survey found 77 percent of Democrats expressing at least a somewhat favorable view of the country’s first president and Revolutionary War hero, 40 percent at least somewhat approve of removing public monuments of the figure. Of those, 21 percent of Democrats “strongly” approve. However, 53 percent at least somewhat disapprove of doing so.
Overall, 27 percent of respondents at least somewhat approve of removing public statues of George Washington — a sentiment held by 19 percent of Republicans and 20 percent of independents as well. Per Rasmussen Reports. (Read more)

6. Biden’s TSA Designates Special Airport Screening Line for Migrants Without Required ID - Breitbart
Migrants recently released by the Border Patrol waited patiently to board flights leaving the region at the Tucson International Airport on Friday afternoon. The event marks their last day on the southwest border and their first day of free movement across the United States.
Despite the firm requirements for United States citizens and legally admitted international travelers to possess valid forms of identification to board aircraft, the migrants were shuffled through a “special” security screening line set up by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), specifically for migrants — many without any identification whatsoever.
As Breitbart Texas watched, several regular travelers were politely told to exit the special “migrant security line” because they were not non-citizens. The migrants traveling on Friday carried manila envelopes that contained a Notice to Appear and documents showing the migrants were released from federal custody on their own recognizance.
None of the computer-generated documents bear photographs of the migrants or appear on the list of TSA-acceptable identification. Breitbart Texas spoke to several migrant family groups who said they were waiting for an afternoon flight to LaGuardia Airport in Queens, New York. (Read more)

7. Pentagon Banned From Mandating Pronouns In Compromise Defense Bill - Daily Caller
Congress’ compromise defense bill bans the Pentagon from requiring — or disallowing — troops or employees from using personal pronouns in official documents.
The Senate’s version of the bill would have fully prohibited the Pentagon from mandating members of the armed forces or Department of Defense (DOD) civilian staff from listing their preferred gender pronouns in any official communications, according to the bill report revealed late Wednesday. But, the final National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) setting the DOD budget for fiscal year 2024 updated the amendment to clarify that the secretary of defense can’t prohibit the action either despite the GOP championing efforts to strip gender ideology from the military.
“The Secretary of Defense may not require or prohibit a member of the armed forces or a civilian employee of the Department of Defense to identify the gender or personal pronouns of such member or employee in any official correspondence of the Department,” the bill report states. (Read more)

8. Crews search for survivors and survey damage after tornadoes leave at least 6 dead in Tennessee - CNN
Crews are searching for survivors and surveying the damage after tornadoes and strong thunderstorms tore through Tennessee, overturning cars, ripping apart buildings and leaving at least six people dead.
At least three people died, including a child, after a tornado struck the Clarksville area of Montgomery County in northern Tennessee, officials said Saturday night. Montgomery County was in a “search and rescue phase” Saturday evening after nearly two dozen people were treated for injuries at a hospital, officials said.
Nearly 50 miles away, another three people were confirmed dead in Madison, Tennessee, just north of Nashville, emergency management officials said Saturday night. “We have teams assessing damage and looking for patients,” the Nashville Office of Emergency Management said on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. NASA’s IXPE Marks Two Years of Groundbreaking
X-ray Astronomy

On Dec. 9, astronomers and physicists will commemorate two years of landmark X-ray science by NASA’s IXPE (Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer) mission.
IXPE is the joint NASA-Italian Space Agency mission to study polarized X-ray light. Polarization is a characteristic of light that can help reveal information about where that light came from, such as the geometry and inner workings of the ultra-powerful energy sources from which it emanates.
XPE orbits Earth some 340 miles high, studying X-ray emissions from powerful cosmic phenomena thousands to billions of light-years from Earth, including quasars, blazars, remnants of supernova explosions such as neutron stars, and high-energy particle streams spewing from the vicinity of black holes at nearly the speed of light.
“Adding X-ray polarization to our arsenal of radio, infrared, and optical polarization is a game changer,” said Alan Marscher, a Boston University astronomer who leads a research group that uses IXPE’s findings to analyze supermassive black holes.
“We’re all familiar with X-rays as a diagnostic medical tool for humans. Here we’re using them in a different way, but they are again revealing information that is otherwise hidden from us,” said Stanford University researcher Josephine Wong, who co-authored findings in October based on IXPE studies of the pulsar wind nebula MSH 15-52, some 16,000 light-years from Earth.
Martin Weisskopf, the astrophysicist who led the development of IXPE and served as its principal investigator until his retirement from NASA in spring 2022, agreed. Read More

‘Groundbreaking’ Animated Jesus Movie to Be Produced by Jesus Film Project
|
|
The Jesus Film Project on Thursday announced an ambitious new project that will introduce the story of Christ to a “new generation” with a feature-length animated film about Jesus set for release Christmas 2025. The new film called simply JESUS, will employ “cutting-edge film technology” and be directed by Dominic Carola, who previously worked in the animation department on Lilo & Stitch (2002), Mulan (1998), Pocahontas (1995) and The Lion King (1994). He co-directed the 2022 faith-based movie Being. A news release called the film 'groundbreaking'. “Our mission is to reach everyone, everywhere,” Josh Newell, executive director of the Jesus Film Project, said Thursday at an event announcing the new movie.
The median age of the world is 30, he noted. “The world is very young. The unreached are very young,” he said. “… So, what if we had a tool that was like the Jesus Film and had that same kind of impact but for this generation, by this generation?” The original Jesus Film was released in 1979. It was live-action. “I feel honored to serve with this truly dream team of feature animation veterans and impressive studio industry artisans,” Carola said. “We are working towards presenting the true story of Jesus beautifully animated and making His story more accessible to the world. Leaning into a classic artistic approach, we’re combining that with groundbreaking digital innovations to deliver a visually stunning and emotionally resonant portrayal of Jesus’ life like never before.”
