Couple celebrating wedding anniversary killed in lightning strike near White House
Wisconsin couple, 29-year-old man die after lightning strikes 4 people in Lafayette Square
Two Wisconsin residents have died following a lightning strike near the White House on Thursday night, police confirmed to ABC News Friday.

Police said 76-year-old James Mueller and 75-year-old Donna Mueller, both from Janesville, Wisconsin, died after being injured in the strike in Lafayette Park in front of the White House.

Metropolitan Police Department Chief Robert Contee confirmed Friday that the Muellers were married and Madison.com reported they were in Washington to celebrate their 56th wedding anniversary.

Thursday night, D.C. Fire and EMS said it had responded and was treating four patients found in "the vicinity of a tree."

It said the two men and two women were transported to area hospitals with "life-threatening injuries."

Officials said it's still unclear what the adults were doing prior to the lightning strike and why they were in the park.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre expressed sadness Friday morning following word the two Wisconsin residents had died.

"We are saddened by the tragic loss of life after the lightning strike in Lafayette Park. Our hearts are with the families who lost loved ones, and we are praying for those still fighting for their lives," she said in a brief statement.

Uniformed U.S. Park Police officers and members of the Secret Service were also on the scene and immediately rendered aid to the victims, an EMS official said during a news conference. (ABC News)  Read more here.

- Father God, we lift up this precious couple to you, as well as the others who were suddenly killed by this lightning strike. We ask that You comfort their loved ones, and others who remain.

Holy One, we take note that this strike, located in Lafayette Park, actually
occurred 65 feet from the main entrance to the White House. May all in authority take note of how quickly we may each be facing eternity. May each one seriously examine his or her own soul, offering repentance, so that they may know without doubt that, when their own time comes, they will be with You. In Your Name we offer this prayer, amen and amen.

" All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23)

- “No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all perish as well!”              (Luke 13:3)

Jim and Donna Mueller were "very, very family-oriented," their niece said.
Biden tests positive for COVID-19 again, will continue White House isolation

President Biden is still testing positive for COVID-19 and will continue his "strict isolation measures," the White House physician said Friday.

Dr. Kevin C. O’Connor said the president "continues to feel very well," and said his cough has "almost completely resolved."

"His temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiratory rate and oxygen saturation remain entirely normal," he said, adding that his lungs "remain clear."

O’Connor said Biden will continue to conduct "the business of the American people from the Executive Residence," and that the president "continues to be very specifically conscientious to protect any of the Executive Residence, White House, Secret Service and other staff whose duties require any (albeit socially distanced) proximity to him."

The president first tested positive for the coronavirus on July 21. (Fox News) Read more here.

Saturday Senate Votes
Presidential Prayer Team:
Today, the Senate will be convening to consider the Inflation Reduction Act. Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York and Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia had worked out the details of the economic legislation that will further the president’s domestic agenda. The majority leader is expecting to put the measure to a vote today.

In an evenly divided senate with Vice President Harris as the tie-breaking vote, Senator Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona said that she will support the bill after changes were made to the tax and energy provisions.

Senate parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough is reviewing the legislation to ensure all the provisions in the measure adhere to the Senate procedures. Senator Sinema stated, “Subject to the parliamentarian’s review, I’ll move forward.”

The Senate convened at noon, the leaders gave their remarks, and the first vote of the day has begun.

The Hill:
This (first vote) will serve as an attendance vote to make sure all 50 members of the Democratic caucus are present.

Eighty-two-year-old Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), who has missed weeks of votes at the Capitol after falling and breaking his hip in June, is expected to be back on the floor for votes.

At some point later in the day, the Senate will vote on the motion to proceed to the Inflation Reduction Act, which is expected to break down strictly along party lines.  …

Senate Republican Whip John Thune (S.D.) said Friday that his Republican colleagues are now eager to speed up the debate so they can move more quickly to offering amendments to the legislation. …

Thune didn’t rule out the possibility that Senate Republicans may try to drag out consideration of the massive bill by forcing the clerks to read its text out loud on the floor for several hours, or by using other procedural delays.  …

Senate Republicans estimate requiring votes on between 40 and 50 amendments. …

At the end of the vote-a-rama, Schumer (is expected to) offer a substitute amendment that will make any final changes he wants to add to the Inflation Reduction Act and strip out any amendments that have may have become attached during the vote-a-rama that would imperil final Senate passage or endanger the bill’s prospects in the House.  …

Republicans are trying to pressure Manchin and Sinema to oppose the final wraparound amendment so that some amendments have a chance of being included in the final bill.  …

The vote-a-rama (would then) be capped by a final vote on the legislation, which if successful would send it onto the House and then Biden’s desk.

Dear Saints,

A lifestyle of REPENTANCE is so close to the heart of God.

Indeed, He commands us to  "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!" Matthew 3:2

How, then, can we approach His Throne of GRACE, in repentance?

We invite you to join us every week on Sunday evening, as we explore this vital topic together. We present a different prayer focus each week, leading us into repentance, so that we might approach His Throne of Grace in repentance, presenting ourselves to Him as a pure and a spotless Bride, without spot or wrinkle. (Ephesians 5:27)

Praying together, we desire to fulfill the mandate of Psalm 139:

" Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; 24 And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting." Psalm 139:24

You can join us, any Sunday evening, at 10:00 p.m. EST by calling:

WELCOME!

". . . and if My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

"Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to the prayer offered in this place."
(2 Chronicles 7:14,15)
