1. High Court blocks petition to disqualify Netanyahu from forming gov't - World Israel News
Benjamin Netanyahu has been dealt a potential win by Israel's High Court in the run-up to the March 2 elections. Specifically, the court rejected a petition that sought clarification as to whether the Prime Minister would be able to be given the mandate to form a government, should he be successful in the coming elections.
The petition had challenged the High Court to decide whether Netanyahu would be allowed to receive the mandate, handed out by the president to the candidate deemed most likely to be successful in forming a government. The question was posed due to the indictments against Netanyahu over several cases of corruption.
The High Court declared it would not rule on the issue before the election, stating that "at this time the petition is theoretical and premature."
The court will most likely make a final decision should Netanyahu receive the mandate to form a government from President Rivlin.

2. Blue and White may try to oust speaker if he stalls on PM immunity - report - Times Of Israel
The Blue and White party is examining the possibility of moving to replace Likud MK Yuli Edelstein as Knesset speaker, if he refuses to go forward on discussions concerning Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's request for immunity from prosecution, Channel 12 news reported on Thursday.
Netanyahu on Wednesday filed a request with Edelstein for immunity in the three cases against him, defending the decision, which has proved controversial with some voters, as protection from "trumped-up charges." The premier has been charged with fraud and breach of trust in all three cases and bribery in one of them.
But opposition parties want to discuss the request immediately, despite the Knesset having disbanded in December, with the hope of the plenum rejecting it, thus allowing the premier's trial to begin. However, a source close to Netanyahu claimed that Edelstein will prevent a Knesset discussion weighing the request before the March vote at a minimum.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu took off this morning for a trilateral summit with the President of Cyprus and the Greek Prime Minister, to be held in Athens, the capital of Greece.
"We are going to a very important summit with the President of Cyprus and the new Prime Minister of Greece," Netanyahu said before his departure.
He said that "the gas pipeline we're going to promote now that Minister Steinitz has been working on for many years, is something that is revolutionizing Israel's energy picture.
"Not only will we bring down gas prices and then electricity prices, it will also bring hundreds of billions into the state coffers for the benefit of Israeli citizens, the elderly, children, health, welfare. It's fantastic and that's what we're dealing with."

4. Israel inks mega gas pipeline deal with Greece, Cyprus - Times Of Israel
Israel, Greece and Cyprus on Thursday signed an agreement for a huge pipeline project to ship gas from the eastern Mediterranean to Europe despite Turkey's hostility to the deal.
The move comes amid tensions with Turkey over its activities in the area and a maritime deal with Libya expanding Ankara's claims over a large gas-rich area of the sea.
The 2,000-kilometer (1,200-mile) EastMed pipeline will be able to carry between nine and 12 billion cubic meters of gas a year from offshore reserves held by Israel and Cyprus to Greece, and then on to Italy and other southeastern European countries.

1. Julián Castro Ends Presidential Campaign-The New York Times
Julián Castro Ends Presidential Campaign
Mr. Castro, the former housing secretary and mayor of San Antonio, was the only Latino candidate in the race. He championed progressive policies but did not find his footing in polls.
"I've determined that it simply isn't our time," Mr. Castro said in a nearly four-minute video message released by his campaign, which included a montage from his year on the trail, including visits to the border and a homeless encampment in Oakland. "Today it's with a heavy heart, and profound gratitude, that I will suspend my campaign for president."

"Well, my retirement is a couple of days away," Galli wrote. "Will be posting here more often now that I have more time on my hands. Well, given last week, maybe not."

3. DHS to review state laws granting driver's licenses to undocumented immigrants-The Hill
Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf on Tuesday called for a department wide study of how recent state laws allowing undocumented immigrants to obtain driver's licenses impact federal enforcement capabilities, according to The Associated Press.
Wolf's memo, which went to agencies including U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Transportation Security Administration, follows a New York law authorizing licenses for undocumented immigrants and restricting data sharing with federal agencies. Similar laws exist in a dozen other states, including New Jersey, which passed a similar measure in December.
Wolf wrote in his memo that the department needed to be "prepared to deal with and counter these impacts as we protect the homeland." He also asked each recipient to take account of what Department of Motor Vehicles information is already available and of any security consequences their operations could risk without that data, according to the AP.

5. FBI records indicate DOJ considering prosecuting Andrew McCabe over leaks-Washington Examiner
New records from the Justice Department watchdog's investigation into Andrew McCabe point to a possible criminal prosecution of the fired FBI deputy director.
The dozens of pages of previously secret documents detail the FBI's internal inquiry into the bureau's then-No. 2, including a May 2017 discussion in which McCabe denied being the source of a leak about former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and a follow-up meeting in August 2017 where he reversed himself and admitted he'd greenlighted the disclosure.
The records were released in response to a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit brought by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, a left-leaning watchdog group that has been fighting in court for access to the DOJ and FBI documents connected to McCabe's firing

6. Marines given green light to carry weapons on bases for first time-Washington Examiner
Marines and civilian personnel in Marine Corps law enforcement roles will be allowed to carry their personal concealed firearms while on base, the head of Marine Corps policy announced on Tuesday.
Lt. Gen. George Smith sent a memo to the entire force telling them that military police, criminal investigators, and Marine Corps Law Enforcement Program police officers will be allowed to carry concealed weapons off-duty. Approximately 3,200 individuals will be eligible to carry their personal firearms under the new policy, Marine Corps spokesman Capt. Joseph Butterfield told the Washington Examiner.
Smith's memo follows last month's shootings at Naval Air Station Pensacola and at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam near Honolulu. The attacks left five dead and nine injured. Pearl Harbor gunman Gabriel Romero, a Navy sailor, killed himself at the scene. Pensacola shooter Mohammed Saeed Alshamrani, a Saudi Air Force second lieutenant, was shot and killed by sheriff's deputies.

7. Four rockets hit Iraqi military base near Baghdad airport-Washington Examiner
Four rockets hit an Iraqi military base near Baghdad airport on Thursday evening, according to reports.
Tensions have escalated in the area over the past week after Iran-backed protesters surrounded the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, shouting, "Death to America," and setting fires to the building on New Year's Eve. "Urgent Iraqi security sources: The explosions were caused by the fall of 3 missiles in the back area of Baghdad Airport," tweeted Al Jazeera, according to a Google translation. The base where the rockets landed is a joint U.S./Iraqi counter-terror center.
The four rockets are believed to have targeted the military airport's runway, an Iraqi counter terrorism center, a building used by the U.S. military, and a road outside the Baghdad airport
This is a developing story.

8. Trump orders attack that kills Iranian Gen. Qassim Soleimani, other military officials in Baghdad, Pentagon says - Fox News
President Trump ordered a game-changing U.S. military attack that killed Iranian Gen. Qassim Soleimani, the head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' elite Quds Force, among other military officials at Baghdad International Airport early Friday, the Pentagon confirmed.
Soleimani is the military mastermind whom Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had deemed equally as dangerous as Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. In October, Baghdadi killed himself during a U.S. raid on a compound in northwest Syria, seven months after the so-called ISIS "caliphate" crumbled as the terrorist group lost its final swath of Syrian territory in March. 9. Iran vows 'harsh retaliation' after US airstrike kills Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani - Fox News
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Friday warned that a "harsh retaliation is waiting" for the U.S. after an airstrike on an airport in Baghdad killed Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani, the head of Iran's elite Quds Force.
The Iranian state TV carried a statement by Khamenei who also called Soleimani "the international face of resistance." Khamenei declared three days of public mourning for the general's death.
The Iranian foreign minister warned that the U.S. would bear all the consequences of the "foolish" military attack, claiming Soleimani's assassination would only escalate tensions in the region given that he was "THE most effective force" fighting terrorism carried out by the Islamic State. 10. Obama gave White House welcome to Iran-backed leader of US Embassy attack in Baghdad - Washington Examiner
The man responsible for an attack on the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad joined President Barack Obama for a White House meeting in 2011.
Hadi al Amiri, the 65-year-old "point man" for the attack on the U.S. Embassy earlier this week, was one of the members of an Iraqi delegation that joined former Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki during a meeting with the Obama administration in the White House.
Amiri was spotted in the background of several photographs from a meeting between Obama and Maliki in the days ahead of the administration's withdrawal from the Iraq War by the Daily Mail. . . .
Amiri's presence in the White House shocked many at the time, including President Bill Clinton's FBI Director Louis Freeh, who claimed the Iraqi minister carried out "countless acts of terrorism, which are acts of war against the United States." Freeh specifically tied him to the 1996 Khobar Towers bombing, which killed 19 American service personnel in Saudi Arabia.
Amiri heads the Badr Corps, an Iranian-backed political party within Iraq. In that role, he held influence over the Popular Mobilization Forces, which organized the riots outside the embassy. Amiri himself was photographed at the front of the group during the attack at the embassy and was listed by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo as one of four men responsible for orchestrating the attack. Barack Obama's former Secretary of State, John Kerry was secretly meeting with Iranian officials to salvage Iran's nuclear weapons program. After the news broke last week, Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee called on G-men to arrest John Kerry for his treasonous acts.
Kerry was working against the Trump administration to salvage the Iranian nuclear deal. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Trump's claim that John Kerry violated the Logan Act is "true." (Read more)

A prophetic look ahead for 2020
As we look forward to 2020, there are several prophetic items that are brewing and will become clearer as the year goes on. The situation in the Middle East is heating up. Disruption among end time players Turkey and Iran are worthy of watching. There is also disruption in Israel with leadership and elections. Terrorist groups, sponsored by Iran and the Muslim Brotherhood (Turkey), are making a lot of noise about attacking Israel. Indeed, there are rockets launching from Gaza into Israel regularly. There is also political disruption in the United States, which could well impact the Middle East and Israel. The prophetic timepiece, Israel, and its surrounding end-time enemies may see significant movement in 2020.
Bloomberg reports, "Renewed U.S. sanctions have cost Iran $200 billion in foreign-exchange income and investment, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Tuesday. Sanctions have deprived the Islamic Republic of $100 billion in oil revenue in the last two years and an equal amount in foreign investment credit, Rouhani said in a televised speech, according to his official website." The sanctions may offset the $200 billion in cash sent to Iran by president Obama, but not before Iran was able to bolster its terrorist-sponsoring networks across the Middle East and around the world. We see the results with Iran flexing its muscle in the Persian Gulf, and protests led against the US Embassy in Iraq by Islamist extremist Nouri al-Maliki, who was welcomed by the Obama White House in 2011, and also was linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
Turkey, another end-time player, supports the current Libyan government while Russia and the US, are working to destabilize that government, another end-time player. The Middle East Media Research Institute reports that Turkey is questioning Russia's involvement against Turkish interests in Libya. In addition, Turkey has been a major player in escalating disruption near the Syrian border. Interesting point about Turkey is that it is a dualistic player, meaning it is in the NATO alliance giving lip service to supporting the NATO agenda, while at the same time working toward supporting terrorism against Israel, aiding the Islamic State, and working to reestablish the Islamic Caliphate.
Intertwined in all this is the US presidential election. If President Trump is reelected, the support for Israel will continue further alienating hostile Arab states. If a Democrat is elected, the pendulum may swing toward favoring those Arab states at Israel's expense. Ezekiel 38:4-5 says that in the end of days, God will "put hooks into thy jaws" of Gog of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal (all in Turkey), to lead a coalition of "Persia (Iran), Ethiopia (Sudan) and Libya with them" against Israel. When we see Iran being brought into such a coalition with Turkey and these prophetic nations aligning against Israel, we know this time is near. All indicators point to an advancement toward this prophecy in 2020.
