Special General Debate Newsletter UN Prayer Watch September 2020

Dear Sara,

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2020 marks the start of this year’s General Debate at the UN headquarters in New York – in a virtual format.
The "old normal" during this time of the year is the area around the UN turning into a high-security area with roadblocks and 24/7 surveillance from NYPD, Secret Service and other security personnel. This year is quiet different, because all speeches of the leaders of the 193 member states are prerecorded video messages. Present in the General Assembly Hall will be the permanent representatives and much smaller delegations than usual due to COVID-19.

The recent developments in the Middle East with the Abraham Accords between Israel and UEA and Bahrain show us that situations can change very fast in a way nobody expects it.
So let us not lower our shields of faith, but let us stand our ground in prayer and take new land, for with God everything is possible. We already are in a worldwide battle for our nations. During a time of prayer, the Lord spoke that He would provide a resting places for each one of us were He will restore us, but then send us out back on the battlefield, always knowing that the victory belongs to Him.

75th Anniversary of the UN on Monday, September 21st, 2020 and the General Debate

On September 21st, 2020, the UN General Assembly marked the 75th anniversary of the foundation of the United Nations. As already mentioned in our previous newsletter, the session was held virtually with the theme 'The Future We Want, the UN We Need: Reaffirming our Collective Commitment to Multilateralism'.
For the 75th session of the UN General Assembly, Ambassador Volkan Bozkir of Turkey was elected as its president.
US President Donald J.Trump was traditionally the second speaker of the day followed by Turkey, China, Russia, Iran and many more.

Yom Kippur is an official UN holiday, and on Tuesday next week the Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu will speak.

There will still be (virtual) multilateral meetings, some behind closed doors with the delegations present.

Please keep the General Debate with all its different meetings in your prayers, although no leader will be in New York City in person. Security is also a key prayerpoint during this time for New York City. May all ungodly alliances be destroyed.
Please also pray for the UN staff that is involved to handle all the technical challenges, meeting arrangements and the daily work.

You can watch the General Debate live and on demand on UN web TV.

Israels UN Envoy Walks Out During President Erdogan UN Speech

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan aggressively censured Israel during his Tuesday address to the United Nations General Assembly, accusing the Jewish state of extending its “dirty hand” over Jerusalem and prompting a walkout from Israel’s UN envoy.

“The order of occupation and oppression in Palestine, which is the bleeding wound of humanity, continues to hurt consciences,” Erdogan said in his prerecorded video address.

As he made the remarks, Israel’s Ambassador to the UN Gilad Erdan rose out of his seat and slowly left the General Assembly hall.

UN Security Council

The US is trying to reinstate the santions against Iran on grounds that Iran is violating the restrictions set forth in the Iran deal. As the US stepped away from the deal many argue, that they have no chance to bring it in.

For September the nation of Niger has the presidency in the Security Council.

Please pray for the current Security Council memembers for wisdom and the willingness to leave old roads and an open mind to new solutions to the battles the word community is confronted with. Release the fear of God upon their hearts and spirits.

Update on International Criminal Court Case against Israel in the 2010 Mavi Mara Incident

The International Criminal Court (ICC) dismissed on September 16, 2020 an appeal against its previous decision, ending an investigation of Israel over the 2010 Gaza flotilla incident, AFP reported.

As a result, the ICC is permanently closing the case in which anti-Israel activists tried to accuse the IDF of charges of war crimes.

Please pray that all other pending cases will be dismissed as well and a different standpoint regarding Israel and Palestine will be established in the ICC.
