The Prayer of Franklin Graham

'Pray That God' Will 'Spare Our Nation From the Evil That is Before Us'

In a Christmas Eve message about the state of affairs in the United States, Rev. Franklin Graham called on Americans to pray for President Donald Trump and for our nation, that God will spare us "from the evil that is before us."

In the Dec. 24 post on Facebook, Graham wrote, "Our country is in such a mess politically and spiritually. I would like to ask you to especially pray for our nation and our president this weekend."

Pray that God’s hand would be on President Donald J. Trump and protect him, and that He would give him wisdom in the coming days," said Graham.

"And pray that God would spare our nation from the evil that is before us," he added.

"Will you join me in praying?" said Graham.  "God might still perform a miracle at the midnight hour. His power is without limits."

Two days before he posted this message, Rev. Graham cited former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) and a column he wrote about the 2020 election.

He quoted Gingrich as follows, "I write this in genuine sorrow, because I think we are headed toward a serious, bitter struggle in America. This extraordinary, coordinated four-year power grab threatens the fabric of our country and the freedom of every American."

BREAKING NEWS

Louie Gohmert sues Mike Pence in bid to overturn election results

A group of Republicans led by Rep. Louie Gohmert on Monday sued Vice President Mike Pence arguing that he is legally authorized to choose pro-Trump electors when Congress meets next month to certify the results of the presidential election.

The lawsuit is the latest in a series of unusual gambits by President Trump’s allies to overturn the results of last month’s presidential election.

Mr. Gohmert, Texas Republican, says Mr. Pence has the “exclusive authority” to decide which electors should be counted on Jan 6, when Congress convenes to affirm President-elect Joseph R. Biden’s electoral victory.

The certification is largely a procedural issue overseen by the sitting vice president. That will put Mr. Pence in the uncomfortable role of announcing a Biden victory.

Mr. Gohmert and others in the lawsuit say Mr. Pence can ignore the pro-Biden electors and choose the pro-Trump electors in five states where results of last month’s election have been contested. That would give Mr. Trump 73 additional electoral votes, more than enough to seal a victory.

They have asked U.S. District Judge Jeremy Kernodle, a Trump appointee, to declare that the vice president has the power to choose the Trump electors in those states.

“Under the Twelfth Amendment, defendant Pence alone has the exclusive authority and sole discretion to open and permit the counting of electoral votes or a given state and when there are competing slates of electors or where there is objection to any single slate of electors, to determine which electors’ votes or whether none should be counted,” the plaintiffs wrote in the lawsuit.

Mr. Gohmert says he will contest the Biden electors from those states because of allegations of voting fraud.

The five states, which have GOP legislatures, have put forth a competing slate of electors. Those states are Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin, Georgia and Pennsylvania.

In addition to Mr. Gohmert, other plaintiffs include Arizona Republican Party Chairwoman Kelli Ward, Arizona Republican Party Director Greg Safsten, and Students for Trump.  (Washington Times) Go here.

Alyssa Farah, a former press secretary for Vice President Mike Pence, said Republicans should shift their focus to winning the House in 2022 rather than contesting President-elect Joe Biden’s victory.

Farah, who also served as White House director of strategic communications under President Trump, responded to a tweet about a long-shot federal lawsuit spearheaded by Texas Republican Rep. Louie Gohmert that seeks to give Pence “exclusive authority” over which Electoral College votes are deemed certifiable.

“Uh, Guys.. why don’t we focus our efforts on winning back the House in ’22,” she said on Monday in response to a tweet from a reporter about the lawsuit, which was filed on Monday in the Eastern District of Texas. (Read more)

Prayer Request:

Father God, we ask Your favor to rest upon Congressman Louie Gohmert and his colleagues as they have now filed this lawsuit in the State of Texas. We ask
that their petition be received and certified in this court of law.

We ask, too, that You forgive Alyssa Farah for her wicked words, for she knows
not what she does. We bind the spirit of Judas Iscariot off of her and we ask
that she be given a new mind, so that her comments will be retracted. We ask
this in Your name, amen and amen.

A WHITE HOUSE PROCLAMATION!

Proclamation on 850th Anniversary of the Martyrdom of Saint Thomas Becket

Tuesday, December 29, 2020

Today is the 850th anniversary of the martyrdom of Saint Thomas Becket on December 29, 1170. Thomas Becket was a statesman, a scholar, a chancellor, a priest, an archbishop, and a lion of religious liberty.

Before the Magna Carta was drafted, before the right to free exercise of religion was enshrined as America’s first freedom in our glorious Constitution, Thomas gave his life so that, as he said, “the Church will attain liberty and peace.”

The son of a London sheriff and once described as “a low‑born clerk” by the King who had him killed, Thomas Becket rose to become the leader of the church in England. When the crown attempted to encroach upon the affairs of the house of God through the Constitutions of Clarendon, Thomas refused to sign the offending document. When the furious King Henry II threatened to hold him in contempt of royal authority and questioned why this “poor and humble” priest would dare defy him, Archbishop Becket responded “God is the supreme ruler, above Kings” and “we ought to obey God rather than men.”

Because Thomas would not assent to rendering the church subservient to the state, he was forced to forfeit all his property and flee his own country. Years later, after the intervention of the Pope, Becket was allowed to return — and continued to resist the King’s oppressive interferences into the life of the church. Finally, the King had enough of Thomas Becket’s stalwart defense of religious faith and reportedly exclaimed in consternation: “Will no one rid me of this meddlesome priest?”

The King’s knights responded and rode to Canterbury Cathedral to deliver Thomas Becket an ultimatum: give in to the King’s demands or die. Thomas’s reply echoes around the world and across the ages. His last words on this earth were these: “For the name of Jesus and the protection of the Church, I am ready to embrace death.” Dressed in holy robes, Thomas was cut down where he stood inside the walls of his own church.

Thomas Becket’s martyrdom changed the course of history. It eventually brought about numerous constitutional limitations on the power of the state over the Church across the West. In England, Becket’s murder led to the Magna Carta’s declaration 45 years later that: “[T]he English church shall be free, and shall have its rights undiminished and its liberties unimpaired.”

. . . Thomas Becket’s death serves as a powerful and timeless reminder to every American that our freedom from religious persecution is not a mere luxury or accident of history, but rather an essential element of our liberty. It is our priceless treasure and inheritance. And it was bought with the blood of martyrs.

. . . To honor Thomas Becket’s memory, the crimes against people of faith must stop, prisoners of conscience must be released, laws restricting freedom of religion and belief must be repealed, and the vulnerable, the defenseless, and the oppressed must be protected. The tyranny and murder that shocked the conscience of the Middle Ages must never be allowed to happen again. As long as America stands, we will always defend religious liberty.

A society without religion cannot prosper. A nation without faith cannot endure — because justice, goodness, and peace cannot prevail without the grace of God.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim December 29, 2020, as the 850th anniversary of the martyrdom of Saint Thomas Becket. I invite the people of the United States to observe the day in schools and churches and customary places of meeting with appropriate ceremonies in commemoration of the life and legacy of Thomas Becket.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twenty-eighth day of December, in the year of our Lord two thousand twenty, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and forty-fifth.

DONALD J. TRUMP

A CLOSING DECREE

"And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death."
