A SIGN IN THE HEAVENS?

Today's Verse

LUKE 21:25

IT IS WRITTEN:

"And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;"

Today's Commentary

As we gaze upon the Word of God, there are several references to "the signs in the heavens," and to be watching for them.

Today we are doing just that . ..

Over 2,000 years ago, when the shepherds were keeping watch in the fields at night, they could not know what lie ahead. But at the appointed time,
the heavens shown with the Glory of the Lord - signaling that something tremendous was happening on earth.

The Magi, too, were watching . . . " Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, 2 saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.” . . . 10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy."

We note, too, that this event occurred in a time of great evil when King Herod was on the Throne. When he sent forth the wise men to follow
the star to find the baby Jesus, it was with an ulterior motive -- to slay the Christ Child, who threatened his rule. (Matthew 2:1-12) In the end, (Matthew 2:13), an angel of the LORD appeared to Joseph, telling him to take his family and to flee to Egypt. The danger from the "king" was thwarted and, over time, our Lord's Kingdom survived and remained.

What meaning might this Biblical story have for us today?

"The Bethlehem Star" Today!

Rare 'Christmas Star' to be visible over Long Island

Long Islanders will be treated to an extremely rare celestial phenomenon, when the Christmas Star — also known as the star of Bethlehem — appears over Long Island for the first time since the Middle Ages in a celestial event that starts this week and culminates Dec. 21, the winter solstice.

Last seen 794 years ago and known to modern astronomers as the great conjunction, the Christmas Star occurs when the giant planets Jupiter and Saturn — which lie hundreds of millions of miles apart in our solar system — appear so close together in the night sky that they look like one bright object, said Dave Bush, Director of the Vanderbilt’s Charles and Helen Reichert Planetarium in Centerport.

Known popularly as the Christmas Star, it’s thought to be the same heavenly phenomenon as the star of Bethlehem, which guides The Magi’s travel to Jerusalem in the Gospel of Matthew’s Nativity story, Bush said.

The "Bethlehem Star: Then and Now

As we meditate further upon this Biblical truth, we can see that, in our day, there are several parallels between that time and ours. For example, we find ourselves now, also, in:

-- a time of great evil

-- a time when we are contending for righteous rulership in our land (Election Integrity)

-- a time when we once again celebrate the birth of the Christ Child, our Savior

-- a time when we shall soon see a MAGNIFICENT STAR in the
heavenlies! . .

-- a time when we shall soon see a star that may preclude the glorious outpouring of His presence among us!

> > > A closing comment: we are sure that as we gaze upon this
approaching "Bethlehem Star," Abba will be revealing even MORE to us,
comparing life in Israel at that time, and what we as Americans are facing now.

If any of you have any thoughts on this theme, we welcome your comments, which will be posted on Sunday, Dec. 20th -- the night before that amazing star will appear in the heavens! Just send us a note at:

Today's Prayer

Father God, unlike the shepherds of old, who could not know what awaited them in the heavens . . . we now do!

Due to the wonders of modern science and the work of astronomes worldwide, we do "see" and anticiapte the glorious "return" of the Bethlehem Star on Monday, December 21st, 2020.

Lord God, let us not escape this moment, nor its meaning. Let us humble ourselves in repentance, eagerly anticipating the appeaerane of this glorious sign in the heavens, as we place our hope in You.

Let us rejoice in Your goodness in our lives, and the destiny You have planned for each one of us in Your Kingdom, and for the United States of America.

We thank You, Father God, the anchor of our soul. "THE CROSS OUR STAY."

Amen and amen!
