Back to School Prayer Initiative beginning Saturday, August 8th

Praying a Canopy of Protection
Over Our Schools

Across Arizona and the nation people will be prayerwalking, prayerdriving, and interceding over their neighborhood schools during our 21 Days of Back-to-School Prayer (August 8-28) — this is so vitally important, as a spiritual battle is raging in our cities and on our campuses.

The devil has his sights set on our children, and schools are a target for his attacks. The 2020-2021 school year will be like no other before it. In addition to the usual threats to our schools, COVID-19 has brought fear of potential infection, social distancing from peers and the in-person support of teachers and counselors.

No one is quite certain what this school year will look like. Some Arizona schools are starting this week in an all remote or virtual learning environment. Other schools have announced they will start later in August or even after Labor Day with hybrid learning options.

Even at this late date schools are still adjusting their plans and parents may not know until the last minute exactly what is going to happen. Will their child's school open with reduced hours or students attending in shifts? Will students, including kindergartners, be required to wear masks all day? Will teachers strike if they don't feel the classroom conditions are safe?

Today President Trump is welcoming Governor Ducey to the White House to discuss Arizona's response to COVID-19 and to talk about next steps as the state prepares for the upcoming school year.

Please pray for every decision maker, from the President to the CDC, to our Governor, to school boards, school superintendents, and principals. The decisions they are making will have huge consequences on the emotional, social, physical, and mental well-being of our precious children both now and for years to come.

Ready or not, this unprecedented school year is about to begin. And we want to invite God's presence into our schools (K-12, colleges and universities, homeschools and private schools) and raise a Canopy of Protection over every student, teacher, and classroom (wherever it may be).

Let's Pray:

Dear Lord, our Protector, thank You for Your promises in Psalm 91 that...

"Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust."

"We declare that our schools will operate under Your protective shield this year."

"May teachers and students alike draw close to You and may the nearness of Your presence overshadow our schools. You are the refuge for the frightened, the lonely or misunderstood; may many of our most vulnerable students seek shelter in Your unconditional love."

"Surely He will save you from the fowler's snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart."  (Read the entire prayer here)
